Planning 11.1.1.1 - Large forms not rendering

Hi,
At a client where large forms are not rendering and it's crashing Planning. I vaguely remember there are a few settings that need tweaked between WebSphere and Planning. I think they are XMS and XMX settings or something like that? I remember they can be half of the available RAM etc... Not really sure and thus the question. What settings can we check to speed up form performance and possibly allow larger forms to render ok?

It sounds as though you're referring to the java heap settings.
If you're in a Windows environment, these are edited in the registry, using regedit. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\ . . . look for your Hyperion Planning web app)
If you're in a Unix environment, these are likely set in the script that starts the services.
The appropriate settings will depend a bit on whether you're using a 32bit or 64bit OS. Most 32bit OS's limit an application to 2GB and exceeding this can cause the app to crash. With that said, I generally see Planning set to about 1024MB. Tech support used to discourage settings much higher than that. I would set the min and max to the same setting - 1024.

Flash Forms Not Rendering in IE7, Flash 9

We're having a problem with flash forms in IE7 and Flash
Player 9 not rendering the entire form. The form works fine in
Firefox 2. It looks to be a problem with how the Flash player is
able to pull back data in IE7. Likely this pertains to how IE7
handles security of plug-ins.
Oddly, we've noticed that uninstalling the Flash 9 player and
then reinstalling results in the form rendering correctly the first
time, but on subsequent views the form no longer renders correctly.
Specifically, we're not seeing data that is being called via
Flash remoting in cfselect tags (state and country information).
And we're not seeing text rendered that is in cfformitem tags. Our

If anyone has an idea of why IE7 might not be able to render

I was granted access to the manuals on our prod server (the
site is set up where you have to log in to see the manuals). The
manuals are behaving differently on the prod server than in our dev
server. The following is happening on the prod server:
- the flash menus are appearing on our prod server in FireFox
only.
- I had reported in our dev area that when I right clicked on
the left hand side where the menus are to appear in IE that the
Flash menu displayed. This is not the case in our production area.
- I get the "This page contains both secure and nonsecure
items" when viewing the site on our prod server through IE
I've asked them what version of RoboHelp they are using and
no one seems to know. It seems they don't regenerate their help
files (manuals) very often.

Interactive forms not rendering in GP 7.0

Hello everyone,
I am trying to use interactive forms in GP 7.0, I have followed the help tutorials but the interactive form is just not rendering at runtime. I am able to use successfully other callable objects but the interactive form object always states " next activity not yet started".
I have checked on all server side configurations in Visual Admin, have given my j2ee server and mail server hostnames wherever necessary but still no success.
Moreover I am unable to set "Synchronise System Landscape" parameters in Web Services Client - Visual Admin.
Please provide me with suggestions on this.

I am able to successfully do the standalone interactive form scenario where a form initiates a GP process, but I am unable to do the GP scenario where form is a part of the process.
My scenario :
form 1 is a standalone form that triggers a GP process and sends to it some parameters. The triggered GP process has 2 actions, first action has a webdynpro callable object that retrieves the data from form 1 and second action has an interactive form callable object that will receive data from the WD callable object and send mail/display form.
At runtime, the form1 triggers GP process, and i can see data in the WD action, but the next action that has interactive form is not executed, neither the form is displayed, nor is it emailed. Moreover its also giving a message that action 2 has been completed!
I believe i have done all parameter and role mappings, also have updated caf/eu/gp/model service with correct parameters. Also I have a single user as default user for all the roles, and i have set this user's mail id as well.
Please help if you can..

Xml forms not rendered in default layout set - urgent

Hi guys,
I've to display several properties and to provide the rating and feedback service in conjunction with xml forms because a "NewsRenderer" doesn't support the display of additional properties.
So I tried to use one of the default layout sets (e.g. "Consumer Explorer") but the <b>xml forms are not rendered after selecting the "contentLink"</b> (displays raw content of xml document). I'm looking quite a long for a command that opens and renders the xml forms in a new window - without any success...

I am trying to create a Adobe Interactive form application.
I have created the form and have integrated into a ABAP WebDynpro as well . How ever when i try to test the application it crashes without rendering with the following message.

What can I do?

I have tested the connection from sap to RFC Destination ADS. It seems to be working fine. I have also executed the program FP_PDF_TEST_00 to check the connectivity.

But after activating and executing the application, the application time outs and gives ADS time out error.
I've checked and am sure that it is the below code that makes it time out.

Large form set: Deliver in portfolio, or build one big PDF?

Greetings, all--
I am using LiveCycle to recreate a set of 24 or so forms that were originally built in Word. My users download the forms, complete them on their desktops, then print and submit the forms in hard copy. Most users are not tech savvy. The forms must be very easy for them to access, open, navigate, and print. Most also function within severe hardware limitations (slow Internet connections, old machines, etc.). On my end, I have a rusty at best command of scripting and am new to LiveCycle. I know what I want my forms to do but am very slow at figuring out how to make those things happen.
I am working first to decide on how to deliver these forms. It looks like I will have to build one big PDF to get the form behavior I want (autopopulation of like fields, field calculation, etc.). Does that sound right? Or is it possible to set up each file as a separate PDF and package them in a portfolio and still get cross-file behavior like auto field population, sequential page numbering, etc.?
Any feedback on setting up big set of files would be much appreciated.

For what it is worth...
First of all consider what version of Acrobat/Reader the user population will have. Improved functionality comes with each new version. So you might end up including features in your form that won't work on the users' PC. In LC Designer 8.2 you are able to define the target version (in File/Form Properties/Defaults) and then check in the Warnings tab to make sure that the form will run OK in that version (eg no warnings);
If people don't have to save the form (or the data that they have typed in) then you don't have to worry about Reader Enabling the form. This gives the ability to users with Reader to save that (Reader Enabled) form. Useful if they are filling in the same form regurarly.
The implementation of Portfolios in version 9 is very good. However if users have older versions of Acrobat/Reader then it will revert to the previous implementation of Packages (less graphical) and users will get warning messages.
Keeping the forms separate will help performance; but may make it more difficult for users to locate the correct form. Creating one large form in LC is possible (and will make it very easy to share values across the 24 forms becuase they will be in the one XFA PDF); however if each form has multiple pages and there is dynamic hide/visible script then performance may be a problem. If the form is static (eg does not grow) then performance will not be as badly affected with the single form approach.
There is a work around to get forms to talk to each other (whether in a portfolio or not), but it requires a good bit of scripting and a cool head.
In summary, if you are working with static forms that will not grow (fields not extending to accomodate overflowing text) then I would go with one form.
You can always develop the single form for the time being and then at a later stage break it out into 24 separate forms.

Moving Large Forms App to HTMLDB

I have a very large Forms application (about 300+ forms). I would like to move this to HTMLDB. This will require lots of pages in HTMLDB. Is it feasable to have a large app run in HTMLDB? What about performance? Please share your experiences.

1947! Well, you beat me. I first started using something called UFI back in 1984 to write Oracle Forms by hand - no GUI, just an XML-like file describing the form. One small coding mistake and kapow, ugly runtime error message. BTW, AFA TLA's go, UFI is a doozey, it stood for User Friendly Interface, which it definitely was not.
I agree with your comments on HTMLDB, it is an extremely easy to use and productive development environment. In my experience you will never replicate Forms UI functionality using just HTML and javascript but the hooks in HTMLDB allow you to do as much if not more than the backend stuff. So IMHO sacrifice User Interface features for all the positives you get as a developer with HTMLDB.

Email form not coming through to inbox

Hello everyone.
I've built a email form in DW CS3 (It's a custom form, not something I got from godaddy or from internet), but when you type in the info, from the form it is not coming to the inbox once you hit send. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I'm using godaddy. In "action" I have: /gdform.php (Post).

which should be

...but I don't know if current gdform.php processor uses the recipient field, or some other mechanism. Try fixing the typo and if it still doesn't work you need to contact GD for support.

Unable to Compile large Form

Hi.
I have a strange problem. I have a large form (1.98MB and growing). When I try to "compile all" by connecting to my local database, it looks like the form disconnects and hence gives me compilation errors. But if I connect to a remote database (client), it compiles fine. The reason I bring up the size is, it used to compile fine when it was smaller.
Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

No Error Messages. Just the regular messages (for example: identifier 'Dual' must be declared.. sql statement ignored) I get when I am not connected to the DB.

IPhoto 6: Does it fix the large maker note and slowness issue???

I'm hopefull that the newly released iPhoto 6 resolves the problem that many of us with certain Pentax and Nikon cameras are having (creating a bloated library.iphoto file due to a larger maker note ... refer to http://www.ericlindsay.com/apple/iphoto5slow.htm for more info.). In essence, this issue makes iphoto painful to use as it takes minutes to start up, up load photos and shut down the program.
Does ANYONE know if this problem is fixed with iphoto 6 (note that iphoto 4 did NOT have this issue)??? Any insight greatly appreciated!

Matt you make a very forceful case for your app, which is understandable since no doubt some effort was needed to create it, and it does what it is meant to do. For that, congratulations and many thanks.
But, as pointed out by the previous contribution, just throwing away the makernote data is not a true solution. The maker, in my case Pentax, but also Nikon and a few others, put it there for some good reason. In fact it is not superfluous or unnecessary as you have written elsewhere.
If you are prepared to search around a wee bit, you can find descritipons of the Pentax makernotes which show that they store information which may be highly relevant to, for instance, photographers, trying to get the best out of their extremely configurable and complex digital cameras. Now 30k may seem big when attached to some vignettte out of a 2mpix point and shoot. In my case, sorry to be personnal, average jpeg size is 1.9 Megs (over about 5000 pix) and 30k is neither here nor there.
It definitely does not justify iphoto screwing up so badly. As a Mac user of 20 years, I do not plan to acquire iLife 6 if the correction is not confirmed. and blaming camear manufacturers for improperly implementing exif is so feeble I shall stop ranting now.
Meanwhile contributing workarounds such as yours is a valuable part of the mac community ethos. Keep it up!

Data forms not opening

Hi All,
We have got hyperion planning & workforce planning plan types in Planning APP,.......all of a sudden the dataforms connected to main plan type stopped opening.....dataforms connected to workforce planning are opening......
I refreshed the planning.....still dataforms are not opening.

The issue with data forms not opening.....we have recently enabled YTD & QTD in the planning App..........
1.In the columns if we have YTD(&CurrentMonth) with Suppress missing blocks option selected then dataforms are NOT opening...and if we Unselect Suppress missing blocks the dataforms are opening.
2.In the columns if we have YearTotal with Suppress missing blocks option selected then dataforms are opening.
The issue is with using YTD ....how can we solve this issue

I have investigated further and could find something as below:-
1. There is a standard method DETERMINE_SEARCHHELP from class CL_HRPA_GENERIC_F4 which gets called.
2. Inside this method there is a function module F4IF_DETERMINE_SEARCHHELP which inturn calls function module DD_SHLP_GET_HELPMETHOD. The later function module takes tablename, fieldname, and sy-langu as parameter to give SHLP as search help output. Following values are getting passed to the function module:-
                                     Tablename = HRASR00_HIRE_F4_CORE_FIELDS
                                     Fielname = PLANS
                                     Sy-langu = E (Default)
However this returns parameter SHLP as blank.
There is a subroutine 'shared_buffer_imp_interface' in the function module DD_SHLP_GET_HELPMETHOD which has the following IMPORT statement:-
IMPORT shlp
         callcontrol-attachkind
         timestamp timerelobj_tab
         FROM SHARED BUFFER ddshoffld(if) ID sh_buf_id.
This IMPORT statement is returning sy-subrc EQ 4 and hence finally SHLP does not have any value. So the position dropdown is not populating.
Also when the following parameter is passed, we get F4 help for PERSG (Employee group field):-
                  Tablename = HRASR00_HIRE_F4_CORE_FIELDS
                  Fielname = PERSG

ITunes for Windows freezes when importing a library. I have a large but not huge library of mostly iTunes purchased music on two authorized computers and would like to sync the files, export the library as a playlist, and import it on the other computer.

I am running iTunes for Windows 10.2.2 on Windows 7 Home. I have my iTunes library on both this computer and another authorized machine running Windows 7 Professional. I have a large but not enormous library, as I'm one of those people who doesn't pirate, use torrents, borrow from a dozen friends, or whatever other shades of gray you might imagine. It's mostly iTunes purchases with my old CD collection imported. I have started using the following technique to sync my libraries between my two authorized computers, an ability which you can probably all agree should one day be added to iTunes -- that would be different from Home Sharing, because the music would be stored locally and thus available on the road. With the added benefit of the entire library being backed up on the other machine in real-time. Anyway, when I switch from my desktop to laptop and vice versa, I use the following technique:
Connect both machines to the home network. One machine is the "Active" machine, which has most recently been used for iTunes media, purchases, ratings, etc.
On the "Active" machine, File-->Library-->Export. Save the file as "Library.xml" on the shared drive of the other machine.
Right-click "Library.xml" where it's been saved, and open another file that has two lines in it: The root path of the iTunes library on one machine and the root path of the iTunes library on the other machine.
Do a find/replace all in Notepad to make the library XML file point to where the files will be saved on the "Inactive" machine.
Run Microsoft SyncToy to synchronize the files between both music libraries; the most recent files win. This avoids copying the entire multi-gigabyte library over the network.
Open iTunes on the "Inactive" machine.
Go to Music, Select All, Delete. Keep files.
Do the same for Movies, Music Videos.
Go down to Playlists, select the top one, hold down the delete button until they're all gone.
File-->Library-->Import Playlist. Choose the "Library.xml" file you saved.
First a status bar comes up that says, "Importing library." It has the continually-scrolling progress bar, not the one that starts on the left and steadily creeps right. Then after about 30 seconds, that clears out. Wait. Typically a few minutes. Eventually a status bar will pop up saying something like, "Evaluating gapless playback information," or something like that.
The "Inactive" computer is now the "Active" computer. I can now play my library, it has all my playlists and metadata from the other machine.
Delete all the duplicate playlists named "Music," "Genius," "Purchased," and "iTunes DJ."
Well, I just upgraded to iTunes 10.2.2 a few days ago and tried to do this again like I've done it dozens of times before. Now, iTunes just goes unresponsive after the library import. It got through the "Importing library" bar to the long wait and stopped. I can still multiprocess and use other programs, but iTunes is hovering back there not responding to clicks. Task Manager doesn't seem to think iTunes is using my CPU, and I don't see my hard drive rattling. Any thoughts on why iTunes might hang up when importing a large library?
... Also, please help lobby Apple to come up with a network sync tool built into iTunes for a user with multiple authorized computers. Something different than Home Sharing so I can pull my laptop off the network and still have the synced library with me. And all my metadata changes will sync. The technique I use seems a little kludgey, don't you think?

iTunes isn't an editor. You need an app that's intended for editing audio files, like Adobe Audition (http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html) or Audacity (free in the App Store).

Oracle EPM Planning 11.1.2.1 - Ziplogs utility not working on all servers
We have Planning 11.1.2.1 distributed so that Planning web app, EAS etc. are on own webservers and Essbase is on separate cluster.
Currently we have an issue with ziplogs utility - it seems to work on Essbase servers gathering all necessary ODL logs for over 100MBs, but on Planning Webservers ziplogs utility seems to start, but generates only empty 1kb zip file without any content.
We haven't touched logging otherwise, everything should be pretty much in original state.
Unfortunately I can't remember now exactly, but I have a a hunch that ziplogs utility worked prior patching Planning element on webservers to 11.1.2.1.600.
Other servers or elements haven't been patched (although Oracle recommends also FS, EB etc. to be patched to 11.1.2.1.600). I'm wondering, could this be the reason as in a way FS and EB are on same patching level whereas Planning is not?
Also, there seems to be a bit of limited diskspace on webservers (still waiting for extension), but I would imagine lack of diskspace for preparing any temp files etc. would results in some errors, the problem is that ziplogs doesn't give any errors, just runs very short time and then ends bringing 1kb empty file.
Has anyone experienced anything similar and are you perhaps able to give quick guidance how to enhance or modify ziplogs batch file etc. to make it create a bit of logging of its own actions?
Thanks in advance if anyone has ideas what could be the root cause for this or faced something similar.

Okay, I was able to get it installed and Common Components installed correctly this time. I still can't access workspace though.
Is there something I need to do before I can browse to http://localhost:19000/workspace/index.jsp?
All I get is the following error:

Anyone know what's going on?
