Planning 9.2 System - Database changes

Hello,
I need to change all my Hyperion 9.2 system relational databases into another SQL Server instance.
Do I need to run the configuration utility in any specific order to change the relational database for each product? (BI+, Analytic Services, Shared Services, Planning)
If this is already covered in another post please link it because I didn't find it.
Thank you

It has been a while since I reconfigured 9.2 but I don't believe there is a specific order as all products are independent.
In that version there are many properties that are used so you may have to also redeploy the web applications or find all ther property files and update them.
I also seem to remember that reconfiguring the BI+ repository requires some extra steps, these are the steps for 9.3.1 which may be similar to 9.2 - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hs_admin/ch07s05s05.html

Now i need to delete one column, or change the data element and domain, is it possible, will it create any problems.
if data already exists for a particular field in production system, now can i change the data element and domain without losing the data.
Pls help me on this, and give any notes about the database changes after transported to producion system.

I had a replacement iphone 4 sent from apple through the service plan and now need to change carriers, orange dont now have my imei registered on their database and cant process the unlock can i unlock another way without jailbreak?

    Hi philhardinges,
You can ask Apple support for the replacement receipt, this receipt would have the old iphone information(including Imei) and the replacement iphone information.
I had a problem like you and they sent me that information, then with the old imei you can unlock your iphone
Another way to take the old iphone imei, you can look for the original iphone box, yep, the one i hope you saved carefully somewhere in your house hahaha. The imei is showed on the bottom of the box down-right corner.
Hope this information can help you.

  • Best practice for tracking database changes...?

    Dear Oracle gurus,
I'm still relatively new to database administrating, and recently I ran into a situation which I'm not sure if there's some text-book scenario analysis or practice.
I find it hard to track all the database changes across different servers. Our company develop software that uses the Oracle database, so we have development and test servers set up here and there, with really minimal control on them. Problem arises when we make rapid design changes to our system, which required multiple and rapid changes to the databases. I find it really hard to keep track of everything, because sometimes I can't patch some server because of people still using it for development/testing/investigation/etc.
So, is there some kind of good practices for tracking database changes (which we even write patches for), monitoring schema modifications, or maybe even versioning database objects? I've tried to find some information but I think I did not look in the right places or ask the right questions.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Peter Tung

The first thing I would start with is:
Find a version control system that will allow you to store files and version them (PVCS for example). You could for example, store all the sql scripts. Whenever a change is needed, the user could check the program out from the version control tool and make changes and check it back in. Besides sql scripts, you could also store binary files or any type of source code files in a version control system. This would at least put some things in order. In a version control system, you could associate a number or a string with all the files within a patch.

  • SQL2012 System Databases Restore on a different environment

So While I was playing around I wondered if it was possible for me to setup a similar version of SQL 2012 on a different environment and restore it quickly.
    Master Env
    SQL 2012  - 3 databases , 2 SSIS packages , 2 Sql Agent jobs and 1 report.
The idea would be to copy this on another Server altogether.
    Slave Env
    So the first thing I thought was the system database should go across before all else.  Now it states that both versions have to be the same which I confirmed using;
    Use Master
    Go
    SELECT
    SERVERPROPERTY
    ('ProductVersion
    ')ASProductVersion,
    SERVERPROPERTY
    ('ProductLevel')ASProductLevel,
    SERVERPROPERTY
    ('ResourceVersion')ASResourceVersion,
    SERVERPROPERTY
    ('ResourceLastUpdateDateTime')ASResourceLastUpdateDateTime,
    SERVERPROPERTY
    ('Collation')ASCollation;
Both showing the same.    Having backed up both system databases on both sides the restoring of the model and msdb databases where straight forward.
The master was a different ball game and is one I still cant get past
    1. Stopped the SQL SERVER on the Slave Env
    2. Open Command shell
    3. Net Start MSSQLServer /m”SQLCMD”
    4. sqlcmd -S. -E
    5. RESTORE DATABASE master FROM DISK = 'D:\SQL\Backups\master.bak' WITH REPLACE
    Go
what this will do is restore the master database from the live to the slave and this is where the problems begin because once you do that restart the SQL server and get out of single user mode you cant logon .
    Question
Assuming the Master has different windows logons to the Slave is there any way once this restore has been done to negate this or do you  create a user straight after the restore?
Also with ReportingServices and Integrated Services are they straight forward Db restores ?
Any Help one this would be great!!
As I really want to know how quickly I can jump from one environment to another.

Not very simple. Requires DBA skills.
The standby (secondary) server usually refreshed through database mirroring or log shipping.
BOL: " About Log Shipping (SQL Server)
SQL Server Log shipping allows you to automatically send transaction log backups from a primary database on a primary server instance to one or more secondary databases on separate secondary server instances. The transaction log backups are
applied to each of the secondary databases individually. An optional third server instance, known as the monitor server, records the history and status of backup and restore operations and, optionally, raises alerts if these operations fail to occur as scheduled.
    Benefits
•Provides a disaster-recovery solution for a single primary database and one or more secondary databases, each on a separate instance of SQL Server.
•Supports limited read-only access to secondary databases (during the interval between restore jobs).
•Allows a user-specified delay between when the primary server backs up the log of the primary database and when the secondary servers must restore (apply) the log backup. A longer delay can be useful, for example, if data is accidentally changed on the
primary database. If the accidental change is noticed quickly, a delay can let you retrieve still unchanged data from a secondary database before the change is reflected there. "

  • Copy Orace file-system database to ASM

    Hi,
We are planning to use ASM and migrate of file-system database
How do you move/copy oracle datafiles, logfiles, controlfiles,*.dbf to ASM?
The docs said ASM does not allow OS copy commands :(
    Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot Hussein, Arnoud :) I like those docs very short/summarized and easy to understand, unlike other oracle manuals which gives you lots of choices/platforms/versions/ and confusion mixed in one.
By the way I am planning to install a new set of 64-bit EBS R12 on ASM/RAC and leave alone our EBS R12 32bit(filesytem) running. I dont like to migrate it because it so critical
    and sensitive to touch.
Just a little clarification :).....When I run EBS R12 installer (database tier side) It ask for
    home directories like: /u01/app/orace
My question is I want my database files (.dbf) to be directed to an ASM disk
How do I input it in the Rapidwiz installer? I did not see any options there to use ASM disk.
    Thanks again

  • Hyperion Planning Configuration using mutiple databases on SQL

    Hi,
I am in the process of configuring after successfully installing the planning and related products on the server.
Can u all please guide me thru the process of configuring the products one by one thru db. Also, once the planning is configured do i need to again configure the workspace.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The documentation provides enough clarity for this configurations.
Specifically, for Planning, you need 2 databases: --
    1. Planning system database [It is configured in the start]
    2. All planning application need a separate database of their own.
For all products, use link below and search on "Preparing a database"

  • Backups of system databases

can anyone elaborate on the risks associated with not backing up default MSSQL system databases (i.e. master, msdb) etc. When would you need to restore data from those databases? What kind of data do they hold? How often do you back them up?

System databases are the core of your SQL Server. Assume a disaster happens, and you lose your system. If you want your system back you need System Databases.
A corruption to your SQL server can cause at any time, if you need your whole system then system databases are required.
Assume you have all your user databases backup after a disaster/corruption and you manage to restore them to a different system, but still you wont be able to login to servers, all your jobs would be lost etc.
You need to backup those as a minimum when you have changes made to the system, eg Any configuration change, Any settings change, Any job created/updated/deleted, any new login created/updated/deleted.
Ideally as these are very small databases once you should not have much issues backing it up. On a safer side a week once would be enough, but as I said, if there is a major change which impact system databases I would back it up.
Read this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/ms178028.aspx to get an understanding about different system databases.

  • Using Database Change Notification instead of After Insert Trigger

Hello guys! I have an after insert trigger that calls a procedure, which in turn is doing an update or insert on another table. Due to mutating table errors I declared the trigger and procedure as autonomously transactional. The problem is, that old values of my main tables are inserted into the subtable since the after insert/update trigger is fired before the commit.
My question is how can I solve that and how could I use the change notification package to call my procedure? I now that this notification is only started after a DML/DDL action has been commited on a table.
If you could show me how to carry out the following code with a Database Change Notification I'd be delighted. Furthermore I need to know if it suffices to set up this notification only once or for each client seperately?
Many thanks for your help and expertise!

I have just upgraded to Mavericks and have been using Time Machine on an external disk with Snow Leopard.  Can I continue to backup with Time Machine on the same external disk or do I need a new disk since the operating system has changed?

    Hi there,
I found that Time Machine in Mavericks will sort it all out for you. You shouldn't need to buy another backup drive, unless you have insufficient space left and can't afford to delete whats on there. It should just work fine.

  • How to port database changes from development to a production environment

How do I port database changes from the development to the production environment?
I am using v8 and have always had to redo everything using the schema manager all over in the production environment. Is there an easy way to generate a script, for example to dump the database changes on the development machine to be executed later on the production machine?

This should already be a clearly defined change control process. Once a procedure, function, package, trigger, or whatever completes the testing rounds, it should be promoted to production.
Forgive me if it seems I'm trivializing, but I don't see the problem, just copy the object(s) from your software library (or development) into production using whatever tool works best or has been chosen. If you are doing data copies then you have various options again including good old export/import.

I am getting following Error after defining the custom SQL in my mapping.xml file. (After executing the Created Process)
    Caused by: BINDING.JCA-11622
Could not create/access the TopLink Session.
This session is used to connect to the datastore.
    Caused by BINDING.JCA-11626
    Query Not Found Exception.
Could not find Named Query [ReceiveSampleCustomPollSelect] with ? arguments, belonging to Descriptor [ReceiveSampleCustomPoll.F554102T] for [oracle.tip.adapter.db.DBActivationSpec@2ec733b0] inside of mappings xml file: [ReceiveSampleCustomPoll-or-mappings.xml].
You may have changed the queryName info in either the _db.jca or toplink-mappings.xml files so that they no longer match.
Make sure that the queryName in the activation/interactionSpec and in the Mappings.xml file match. If an old version of the descriptor has been loaded by the database adapter, you may need to bounce the app server. If the same descriptor is described in two separate Mappings.xml files, make sure both versions include this named query.
You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake. This polling process will shut down, unless the fault is related to processing a particular row, in which case polling will continue but the row will be rejected (faulted).

Help required to fit custom SQL in mapping.xml file for complex queries.
    Thanks,
    Arun Jadhav.

"Execuite Custom SQL" in DB adapter and you'l get it.
But in this case you'll have to implement your own polling strategy (if you need one).
If you want to use one of the predefined polling strategy you should use "Poll for New or Changed records" and import all the tables you use and connect them in wizard.
