Can Planning Import Security Utility can be scheduled to run nightly using and encrypted password??

Yes it can be scheduled using an external scheduler such as windows scheduler or cron on unix, from version 11 the utility can use an encrypted password file.

One more thing with Import Security utility what we found is unless we give a user a access in the application manually ,the security for that user will not get imported in the system.
In case we have thousands users then we need to give each user access in the application manually atleast once?

Import security not working

Hi All,
I have exported the security permisions from one server and need to import it to another. When I am importing its saying file not found , exception coming. I have placed teh file in the corrrect location which is
K:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\Planning\planning1.
What can be the issue here?
One more thing whne i am exporting the security then a file is getting created but its name is null so, I have manually added the name SecFile

Troubleshooting the ImportSecurity Utility for Hyperion Planning (Doc ID 1103373.1)
Cause: users in Shared Services, Planning, and Essbase are not in sync.
Solution
1. In Shared Services confirm that the users and groups are provisioned for the Planning application with suitable non-administrative roles. Administrators cannot be assigned access permissions using ImportSecurity (as they always have access to everything) and attempting to import security for an administrative user will fail.
2. Log into Planning as an administrator. Navigate to Administration > Manage Database, select the "Security Filters" option, and click "Refresh". This populates the planning repository with the new users. Also, if a user logs in, entry goes to repository automatically. PLEASE NOTE: Users/groups have to exist in the planning repository BEFORE you run the utility.
As well as creating the security filters in Essbase, the refresh will synchronise users between Shared Services, Planning, and Essbase. All users will also be automatically assigned the "Server Access" Essbase role in Shared Services (at the user level) if they do not already have it.
3. Optional. In most cases the two steps above should be sufficient to ensure all users and groups are in sync. However, if problems persist you may also need to synchronise users and groups directly between Shared Services and Essbase. Note that the ability to perform a manual refresh in this way is no longer available in more recent versions (Essbase 9.3.1.5+).
1. Log into the EAS Console
2. Expand "Essbase Servers" > your Essbase server
3. Right-click on "Security" and click "Refresh Security from Shared Services"
4. Select "All Users", click OK, and confirm
5. Select "Yes" in the next dialog box when asked "After refreshing security from Shared Services, Essbase server will be disconnected and you will have to reconnect. Do you want to continue?"
6. If the refresh succeeds you should receive the message: "Refreshing security to Shared Services was successful."
After synchronising users, run the ImportSecurity utility again.

Importing security 11.1.1.3 fails "java.lang.NullPointerException"

the prop file is ok and the catalog name and dsn is fine in Oracle.

LCM vs IMPORT/EXPORT utility

what is the better option for importing a planning application? LCM or import/export utility? Which one should i folloow? Which is more error-prone??

Thanks John... you perhaps remember i faced some problem in importing the access rights for certain data forms and task lists of my application using LCM. It could not find the appropriate data form or task list... Then i tried the utility and the import operation was 100%. And John... i was able to import the application into a whole different application( different name), even whose owner is different as well. I am using v11. But the LCM is very disturbing. It might show Completed, but one has to search through the application dimensions, forms everything if all the components and security have been imported properly.
John you said that obviously there are going to be some problems with LCM, then also what makes you recommend LCM over utility? I mean is there anything that LCM provides and utility does not?? Or it is just the GUI and easy to execute??

Import -Export Utility in Shared Services

Hi,
Can anyone help me to get through the import-export utility of Shared Services?
I need to know
1)How to export security file information stored in shared services using xml file( I need to run it in weekly basis)
2)How to import it back if ever the security file gets corrupted?
Please help me with th same.

If you go with the csv format (yes, I know, you wrote xml) you don't need an internal id field.
Here's a snippet of a file I used to build a group in Shared Services 11.1.1.3:

Exporting Planning forms security using exportsecurity.cmd

Is there a way to export only the planning forms security info using exportsecurity.cmd ? I am using Planning 9.3.1.2.
I can export dimension level security, group level and user level. I am not able to figure out a way to export only the form security.
Any suggestions?

If I remember correctly you can import security on forms but it doesn't seem to export it (my mind may be playing tricks and I could be wrong), from 11 I know you can definitely import and export permissions on forms.
If it is not possible you can always run a query against the planning application relational repository for example

Import java.util Error

How come program wont accept import java.util ?
I get cannot resole symbol ?? i looked in up in my java book and its spelled right . what gives ?

Cannot import java.util.concurrent.locks ... WHY?

Why is Xcode unable to find the java.util.concurrent.locks package. The class browser knows it exists. For example the entry for the ReentrantLock class looks like this in the browser class window:

Xcode knows about other java.util packages such as java.util.ResourceBundle which I have been accessed successfully in other parts of my projecgt.
Here is a source file and the resulting compiler error:

Well the reason to your problem is very simple... java.util.concurrent.locks is a package... Not a class.
if you want to import a specific class, the class should be written at the end like you did for import java.util.ResourceBundle; but if you want to import a whole package you need to add the little star at the end :
import java.util.concurrent.locks.*;
Or else, you only import the class you need :
import java.util.concurrent.locks.ReentrantLock;

USage of import java.util.* & using another package

When we use import java.util.*; from where does JAVA take the class that are related to util, when I did search for "util" in my machine, I got about 50 results for folders named util and also some where in a folder called "java" when I opened it it did not have the classes, that I was expecting. So I am not clear where does it get the class files from. This is not only for this but for any import commands like import java.io.*;
When we get another package or source code which was written in java and want to use it in our code where do we have keep the files ? eg. i have the java code that i m writing in c:\java then do I put all the downloaded related files in that folder and then run the code ? or i keep a folder inside java folder and then import them into my code ?

take the class that are related to util,It means when you use a classname in your code, and that classname is neither in the same package as the class you're writing, nor imported specifically by classname, that it will search for it.
Where it searches is every folder called util whose parent folder is called java which in turn is at the root level of one of the classpath elements. That is, if classpath contains "A" and "B", and you refer to a class called "Foo", then it will look for "A/java/util/Foo.class" and "B/java/util/Foo.class".
