Planning : migration security of business rules

Hello,
Unfortunetly the migrator for business rules (v. 9.2.0.3) don't migrate the security. Do somebody have a solution to migrate the securtiy with the business rules ? And, is there a solution to associate the BR with the forms automatically ?
Thank you

It's almost easier to treat the migration of rules as text objects.
Basically cut/paste the rules, store in a repository as you would other source code a, cut/paste to target environment. This means the security on the rules in the target environment for existing rules is retained. Now for new rules you would have to provision the rules. The XML export does have a known issue with really large business rules (those about 485k or so when in text form) whereas the cut/paste method will always work. Now if you do have large rules, you can use Macros or Sequences to break up the size.
Your process ends up being dictated by corporate policy and the roles assigned to various individuals.

-John

  • Security for Business Rules on Planning Menus

We recently upgraded to 11.1.2.3.500. Planning is patched to 11.1.2.3.501. We have right-click menus that are used on our data forms to launch business rules. We are finding that users without access to the business rules are able to see the rules on the menu and run them successfully from the right-click menu.
When the user goes to Tools > Business Rules and clicks "Display only launchable rules, rulesets, and calc scripts", it shows no rules listed, yet when they use the right-click menu, they can see the items from the menu that are associated with a rule, and use that item to run the rule. If you go to Tools > Job Console, you can see the rule as executed under the user's name.
In our old version, 11.1.2.1, if the user did not have access to the business rule, then the item would not show on the menu and therefore they couldn't run the rule.
Is this a known bug in the 11.1.2.3.500? Any ways to resolve or workaround this?
    Thanks in advance!

Have you had a look at the planning 502 patch to see if this has been resolved, sometimes the bugs addressed in the patch are quite cryptic so it is worth trying the patch out anyway, if you have not already it is probably worth logging with Oracle.

  • Business rules security in task lists

    Hi experts,
I have question regarding security in business rules, the problem is that we have, lets say, 10 users who have all access to a tasklist, but not all of them have access to the same forms / business rules. The ideal would be that if a user has no access to a form, it doesnt show in the tasklist, but he gets to see the form in the tasklist and when he opens it he receives an error message. We can get the user to accept that. But with business rules, the case is different: when a user clicks on a business rule on the tasklist he has no access to, instead of receiving a message denying access, he gets a screen with all the business rules he does have access to, and checkboxes to select the plan type the BR will run on, which is unacceptable and confusing. There are many users and creating custom tasklist for each one of them would be too hard to mantain. Is there a way to achieve a better solution for the user? Thanks in advance for your comments.

    Hi,
I don't think of any other way.
The user have access to task list so it will show all tasks, and if the user don't have access to any particular web form it will throw an error informing same only once user open the web form.
For Business Rule it will show all rule/calc scripts for which user have access too, if the user don't have access to rule attached to that task.
I had same requirement and then after trying for some time, we provided education about the same to the users.

  • Business Rules Security based on work flow

    Hello,
How can we enable security on Business Rules, based on the workflow,
    for example,
we have Business rule, that is attached to one input form, which opens a window for entering run time prompts for entering
new asset details, and after entering he saves and the planning unit is promoted to next level,
but on the input form, the Business rule is still visible, where by he can enter the the details though the planning unit is promoted,
Is there any way that makes the Business rule access disables/hides as the planning unit is promoted?
    Thanks,
    murali.

There is currently no out-of-the-box integration between workflow and business rule security.

Can anyone help me out. I am not being able to view the rules in the planning UI .
I have tried for recycle the EAS even though i am getting same error.
could you please let me know the solution for this
    Thanks

    Hi,
Always follow this process, stop the planning service and eas service.
    Start RMI service
    Start EAS
    Start Planning
Log into the web planning application
Then go into EAS and create a new rule, select an outline to the application you have just logged into via web.
Also if you are using the default admin user to log into EAS try another user that has been provisioned with business rules roles
If you still have problems then go to My Oracle Support (formely metalink3) then have a look at doc id - 763345.1
    Ok?

  • Business Rules error when creating new classic planning application in 9.3.

Im trying to create a new planning application using classis planning application wizard in Workspace. everything seems alright untill i gets an error saying "Business rules cant connect to Planning"
other than this Business rules working fine and i can open business rules in other applications and i can access business rules repository in EAS.
    Any thoughts on this ?

Further invesitgation bears this problem out.
Oracle support recommend wrapping the SimpleType in a ComplexType. This does work, but now I have an extra wrapper element to deal with. I either have to use the wrapped type in my other complex, composed Types and/or add an external wrapping element when trying to create Business Services in BPM to call the BusinessRules I've created.
    This is a bit messy.
To be clear, this does not seem to be an issue with Business Rules; the BR editor and generation of Facts (including simple restricted types -> JAXB 2.0/Java Enumerations) seems to work correctly. There seems to be an issue exposing DFs as Services. The code which generated the WSDL and its supporting types seems to choke on restricted SimpleTypes.
As a side note, it seems that HumanTasks have a similar limitation

  • Error in association of Business Rule to Planning

My name is Jitendra from India. I am new to Hyperion planning 9.3.
I am facing problem while attaching a business rule with the planning database (association step). It is showing "Unable to connect to Planning" . But same Business rule is attaching with the Essbase database.

  • Business rules do not appear in Planning

    Hi,
I've created 4 business rules, and assigned myself with Modify privileges, and "Launch and validate" privileges.
Outline has been assigned and the rules validate fine as well.
When login to planning and view the business rules under that plan type, it does not show the rules.
Can anyone help with understanding what this prolem is related to?
    Thanks,
    Anindyo

I assume that you assigned the business rule to the application location? If not, go into the business rule edit mode and check the Location tab. Make sure the application location is added. If it does not seamlessly appear in Planning, then log out then back into the Planning application for the rules to synch with Planning.

  • Business Rule Of Sample Application in Planning

    Hi Planning Gurus,
I am unable to find where the business rule is saved in Planning Application (Sample Application shipped with Planning), though i see some default Rules under Business Rule within Admin console like aggall etc. But where are the basic calc like Revenue=Unit*Unit Price.
    Thanks & regards
    N Kumar

If the location and access has been set up on the business rule then they should appear soon after in planning.
If no business rules are showing and depending on your version, check that HBRServer.properties exists in the planning web server strucure e..g \Hyperion\deployments\Tomcat5\HyperionPlanning\webapps\HyperionPlanning\WEB-INF\classes

  • Access privileges lost in business rules

    Hello everyone,
I noticed that my security for business rules have disappeared. Only my native admin account is able to see the groups that have access to BR through the EAS console. When I logon with my account or the main hyperion admin account (MSAD) I don't see the groups. I ran the sync utility and stopped and restarted the services but with no success.
Last Friday I copied over a production planning app into our dev environment and it seems that screwed up the business rules security.
    Console version is 9.3.1.3
Does anyone have an idea on what is going on?

I think it will be more of an issue when you migrated the business rules 2 weeks ago, did you check the security after you migrated them, it can get lost on a migration.

  • Upgrade Business rules with Calc Manager

    Hello Gurus,
Recently performed an upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2 by replicating the Database to a new database machine.
I had Business rules in 11.1.1.3 and did not perform any steps to migrate the rules to Calculation manager in 11.1.2.2
    The doubt I have is,
    1. Are the business rules automatically upgraded when performing upgrade by EPM system configurator (since the database is replicated)
    2. If so, how do I see the business rules in 11.1.2.2 environment? How can I use migrate feature option.
    Thanks
    HyperionEPM.

    From 11.1.2.2 documentation:
    Upgrade Wizard
If your application used Oracle Hyperion Business Rules, the Upgrade Wizard automatically converts Business Rules business rules to Oracle Hyperion Calculation Manager business rules. Release 11.1.2.2 supports onlyBusiness Rules business rules as the calculation module.
    Notes:
•Classic application administration is now called Oracle Hyperion Planning application administration (versus Oracle Hyperion EPM Architect application administration).
•The Upgrade Wizard automatically upgrades applications having Oracle Hyperion Business Rules business rules, converting them to Calculation Manager business rules. However, the Upgrade Wizard does not automatically convert Release 11.1.2.1 applications having Oracle Hyperion Calculation Manager business rules. For those upgrade instructions, see the Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.
Business Rules Maintenance Release and Upgrade Installation PrerequisitesIf you are using Business Rules, you must migrate to Calculation Manager rules in Release 11.1.2.2. Before migrating business rules, you must perform prerequisite tasks. Note that these tasks are required if you are applying the maintenance release or if you are upgrading.
To prepare to migrate Business Rules, perform the following tasks in your current Business Rules environment before installing Release 11.1.2.2:
1.in Business Rules, within the Rule Editor, remove the associated outline (that is, the design time location) from each business rule. After you do this, the Associated Outline drop-down list should display the text, Select Outline.
2.On the Locations tab of the Rule Editor, ensure that each business rule has a valid launch location, which must be an absolute location. Although “All Locations” is valid in Business Rules, when you migrate business rules, you must provide the details of a specific launch location (that is, the application type---Planning or Essbase, the server name, the application name, and the database or plan type). If you want a business rule to be valid for multiple launch locations, you must provide the details for each location. The locations must be in different applications; you cannot migrate the same business rule to different plan types in the same application within Calculation Manager.
If the rule is a part of a sequence, then the launch location of the rule within the sequence must be one of the launch locations listed in the Locations tab of the rule.
3.On the Access Privileges tab of the Rule Editor, ensure that each business rule has security defined for a specific location or locations and not “All Locations.” If multiple locations are defined for a business rule on its Locations tab, you must add security for each location individually.
4.Do not modify rules in Calculation Manager until migration is completed.
5.If you are using Business Rules with Planning, as a precaution, create a backup of the rules: Use Administration Services to export the rules to XML in Business Rules format. If you are upgrading from 11.1.1.3 or 11.1.1.4, also export the rules to Calculation Manager format. EPM System Configurator exports the rules during database configuration for use during application upgrade.
6.If you are an Essbase-only Business Rules user, you must export business rules. To export the Essbase rule from Business Rules:
a.From Administration Services Console, right-click the Business Rules node and select Export.
b.Export the rules in Business Rules format and then select all of the Essbase rules in the repository. If you are upgrading from 11.1.1.3 or 11.1.1.4, also export the rules to Calculation Manager format.
c.Specify the location to save the XML file, and then click OK. If you are upgrading, the location should be a shared drive that is accessible from the upgraded environment.
Make a note of the location. You import the file later in the process.
Migrating Business Rules to Calculation Manager for use with Planning
If you applied the maintenance release to move from Planning Release 11.1.2.0 or 11.1.2.1 to Release 11.1.2.2, and you were using Business Rules rules, you must migrate the rules to Calculation Manager rules.
Before you migrate, ensure that user directories and native users with the same SID are available when you upgrade Shared Services.
Ensure that the Planning applications are upgraded to the current release and are available in Calculation Manager under SYSTEM View.
To migrate Business Rules rules to Calculation Manager rules:
1.In Calculation Manager, select the migrated Planning application, and then select Migrate.
The data that was exported during database configuration with EPM System Configurator is imported to Calculation Manager.
    2.Repeat for each Planning application.
3.Deploy the rules from Calculation Manager to Planning. See the Oracle Hyperion Calculation Manager Designer's Guide.
After migrating business rules and rules security, if any of the rules had multiple launch locations and you migrated to more than one location, Calculation Manager creates a rule for the first migration, and shortcuts for all subsequent migrations. If the rule had rule-level variables, for the shortcuts that are created in the application in the new environment , its variables are moved to the Plan level. In this scenario, test rules in your environment to ensure that they work as expected.
If you still have problems, raise an SR and we can get on a call to figure out why the rules are not coming over.

Is this 11.1.2.1 by any chance?
We had this as well, but resolved the issue with this KB:
Error: "Error connecting to Essbase server EssbaseCluster-1" When Trying to Connect Business Rules to Essbase [ID 1328483.1]
Modified 25-JUL-2011 Type PROBLEM Status PUBLISHED
    In this Document
    Symptoms
    Cause
    Solution
    References
    Applies to:
Hyperion Essbase - Version: 11.1.2.1.000 and later [Release: 11.1 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
    Symptoms
in version 11.1.2.1, after switching Essbase from using host name to a cluster name, in Essbase Administration Services (EAS) it is no longer possible to navigate lower than "EssbaseCluster-1" in the tree of Locations in Business Rules. The following error occurs:
"Error connecting to Essbase server EssbaseCluster-1".
This happens with both pre-existing and new business rules.
    Cause
This issue has been identified as unpublished BUG 11783671 - Unable To Select Outline For Essbase Rule If Essbase Cluster1 Is The Server
    Solution
    The current workaround is:
    1. Search for the file named 'essbase.properties' under %EAS_HOME%. Note that normally on a windows setup %EAS_HOME% points to the following path:
    ":\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\eas"
If it does not exist, create a blank text file and name it 'essbase.properties' and place it under %EAS_HOME%\server\bin
    2. Open it in notepad and add the following setting to the beginning of the file:
    aps.resolver.urls=http://<APSSEVERNAME>:APSPORT/aps
    e.g aps.resolver.urls=http://server1:13080/aps
NOTE: The line is case sensitive
    3. Save the file and restart the EAS server.

  • Business rules help

    Hi da,
I have few queries on business rules.
    1. what is the use of business rules ? and how can we use and where can we use it. is there any usefull guide?
I can see BR outline tab in EAS console with some of functions. ( I just recently finished my essbase training and we never told about these business rules).
    2. In shared services when I try to open Business Rules under projects it is showing the error" Refer to essbase security guide" . ( I externalized all users to Shared services). So how can I access Business Rules in shared serives? or is there any other way to access.
    {OS: windows server 2003 sp2
    DB: Sql Server 2005
    Hyperion System 9( 9.3.1).}
    Help will be appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sri-Oralce.

    Hi Sri,
    1. Basics of BR ( Business Rules ) can be found in planning document ( there are 2 planning docs 1. user guide and 2. Admin guide). Pls find that
    2. From Planning perspective , we create Business Rules ,which are nothing but another version of essbase calculatino scripts , thats why you do see in EAS.
    3. Essbase training does not include Business Rules ( planning does include). If you are comfortable with calculation scripts, then BR's should be comfortable to you.
    4. To see BR's in shared services , I have a question , did you install Planning and all.

  • Smart View error on Launching Business Rule

    Hi ,
    I am in Planning 9.3.1
After connecting to Planning Webform from Smartview, i am trying to Launch Business Rule attched to the webform
Hyperion--> Calculation Option--> Rules on form
It open the new BR Launching window with all parameter selected in the Webform Page drop down list but when i trying to change the Arguments
by clicking on the icons or if i am clicking on the Launch button getting following error
"Substitution Vars XML is malfunctioned, can't initialize dialog"
any idea or tought on this.
    -KK

There is an article on this issue on "My Oracle Support"
SmartView "Substitution Vars XML is malformed, can't initialize dialoge.." Message is Displayed after Clicking on the Magnify Button [ID 752508.1]
    Symptoms
Error message in SmartView after clicking on the magnify button "Substitution Vars XML is malformed, can't initialize dialog.." is displayed.
Planning web forms with Business Rule (Runtime prompt) set to "Run on Save". When submitting data in SmartView, it will then open a separate window to allow changes to the run time prompt values.
    Cause
This issue is caused by substitution variables values containing double quotes or the '&' signs.
    Solution
This is a noted bug, but the following will help as a workaround to the problem:
    1. Login to EAS as administrator.
    2. Next navigate to the enterprise view.
    3. Select the Essbase Servers.
    4. Right-click on your server.
    5. Select Edit.
    6. Select Variables.
    7. Remove double quotes and '&' signs from substitution variable value.
