Please review OS Builder scripts

Hi all,
I published my project here for building a system from scratch:
https://github.com/walterjwhite/OS-builder
It currently supports building Arch / Funtoo / Gentoo images.  It will install software, configure the system (apply an overlay of configuration files), run configuration commands, setup users and groups  I will have to show a sample 'system' configuration to illustrate how it works.  I was looking for feedback regarding the scripts to see: 1, is there a similar thing that does a better job, 2, if the community would think it would be useful.
This is similar to the archiso / archbuild scripts but handles much more configuration on top of that.  It still does have some hard-references, but it can be adapted.
I use this to periodically generate systems to use and at the same time keep a running backup of my system with all the configuration steps applied.
Thanks,
Walter

    Are the seperating DROP rules redundant ? Setting standard dropping policy is enough, right ?

    To my knowledge a package that does not match any rules will be matched against the default policy, so you do not have to drop everything explicitly.
    And you have a double
    # Block invalid ICMP packets
    $IPTABLES -A FORWARD -m state -p icmp --state INVALID -j DROP
    $IPTABLES -A FORWARD -m state -p icmp --state INVALID -j DROP
    Which - if my previous statement is correct - you shouldn't need at all (the DROP rules, that is).
    I don't get why you're specifying this again either:
    # Make sure nothing comes or goes out of this box
    $IPTABLES -A INPUT -j DROP
    $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -j DROP
    $IPTABLES -A FORWARD -j DROP
    You already set policies, to me this looks like twice the work...
    Also, keep in mind iptables will treat the rules chronologically. So first you define what's allowed, then you define what's blocked. It will work its way down the rules until it finds a match, if not, it will resort to the default policy.
    Edit: Bash is in /bin on Arch, not /usr/bin.

  • Please review the RMAN script and throw any comments which will increase KB

    Dear Sirs:
    I would be grateful if anyone in this forum checks whether the RMAN strategy taken by me is OK or require any room for improvement. I have not yet
    moved into production.
    Environment: ORACLE 10G R2 running on RAC, RHEL 4.0 for Intel Itanium. RMAN script runs every night at 10PM from node 1 of 2.
    ASM is used and all datafiles, controlfiles, arc, redo in SAN
    Process:
    <1> Empty folder "PreviousdayBackup
    <2> Move backup of yesterday night to "PreviousdayBackup"
    <3> Execute RMAN the script provided below.
    run {
         backup
              filesperset=15
              incremental level 0
              spfile format '/archive/backup/rman/spfile_%d_%s_%T.bak' tag 'spfile_backup'

              crosscheck backup;

              backup filesperset 288 format '/archive/backup/rman/cscdb_data_archive_%d_%u' archivelog all delete input;
              delete archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-7';
              delete noprompt expired archivelog all;
              delete noprompt obsolete;
              backup current controlfile format '/archive/backup/rman/%d_data_control_%s_%p_%u' tag 'control_file';
    The Tape runs at 3:00AM in the morning and takes all the files from '/archive/backup/rman/'

    I am also not getting the concepts properly on :
    delete archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-7';
    delete noprompt expired archivelog all;
    delete noprompt obsolete;
    Is the delete within the RMAN pieces or within the folder. It would be great if someone can explain me on these

    Hi emre baransel :
    Step 1: Delete from folder "previousdaybackup"
    Step 2: Move last night backup from "/archive/backup/rman" to "previousdaybackup"
    Step 3: Run RMAN and backup is stored at "/archive/backup/rman"
    Stpe 4: Data is backed up to DLT cartridge from "/archive/backup/rman"
    The folder "/archive/backup/rman" is a separate partition from SAN mounted in the LINUX SYSTEM as ext3
    Why did you chose filesperset=15, do you have specific purpose?Well I am looking at existing RMAN in the place and not changing any basic configuration. Frankly speaking I do not have answer to this.
    I have changed the RMAN commands as
    run {
         backup
              filesperset=15
              incremental level 0
              spfile format 'D:\archive\backup\rman\cscdb1\spfile_%d_%s_%T.bak' tag 'spfile_backup'
              database format 'D:\archive\backup\rman\cscdb1\data_%d_%s_%T.bak' tag 'full_data_backup';
              crosscheck backup;
              sql 'alter system archive log current';
              crosscheck archivelog all;
              backup filesperset 288 format 'D:\archive\backup\rman\cscdb1\cscdb_data_archive_%d_%u' archivelog all not backed up 2 times;
              delete noprompt archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-7';
              delete noprompt expired archivelog all;
              delete noprompt obsolete;
    I feel that I will be in a safer side.
    Please provide comments. Anything that will increase knowledge base and will educate others too in this forum.

  • How to use single ant build script to package the application with and without native extensions

    Hi,
    I am using iOS native extensions for Adobe air. For this I am listing the extensions in the application descriptor file. Since the package with native extensions are meant to run only on device, I want my build script to work without native extensions too to be able to run on simulator. Is this manadatory that I need two separate application descriptors/basically two build scripts to compile and package them? Please suggest and let me know if more explanation is needed.
    Thanks,
    Swathi.

    Hi
    This is a known issue addressed by CR205204
    As you said, IBM actually does not have rt.jar in its JDK - they have moved contents of rt.jar into various jars.
    IBM is not using org/apache/crimson/tree/ in their JDK at all.So the error shows up in the end of build even if it succeeds
    You may need to add crimson.jar to wlwBuild classpath, since it is not part of IBMs JDK.
    Note: the build will work even w/o crimson.jar giving a non build related IDE exception in the very end.
    Thanks
    Vimala

  • Problems deploying ear file created with ant build script

    Hi All,
    I'm using Jdeveloper 11G and Weblogic 10.3. When I build my application and run it within Jdeveloper, it works fine. However, we have a requirement to run ANT build script and create a deployable .ear file that can be manually deployed to any Weblogic Server.
    I created my ant build script and it compiles/builds fine - the .ear file looks good. However, when I attempt to deploy it, it fails with
    javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet for servlet Faces Servlet could not be loaded because the requested class was not found in the classpath .

    I am not sure how to tell weblogic where to find the classes needed. I have a pretty huge classpath used when compiling - should I be putting the classpath in the manifest (?) - I don't think I should need to include the .jar files manually in the .ear file - since all the libraries should already be available in weblogic - or is that a misconception?
    Please help!!

    I answered my own question -
    I had to manually add the following to the WEB-INF/lib to get the error to go away:
    ${ORACLE_HOME}/modules/javax.jsf_1.1.0.0_1-2.jar and
    ${ORACLE_HOME}/oracle_common/modules/oracle.jsf_1.2.9/glassfish.jsf_1.0.0.0_1-2-15.jar and
    ${ORACLE_HOME}/oracle_common/modules/oracle.jsf_1.2.9/glassfish.jstl_1.2.0.1.jar
    that solved my problem. However, I think it'd be great if I could somehow just specify (in the weblogic-application.xml maybe?) that my application is using the above modules without having to copy the jar files into my WEB-INF/lib - any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi,

    <apt sourcepath="${java.sourcepath}" srcdir="${.java.src.dir}" listfiles="true" includes="${.java.src.include}" excludes="${.java.src.exclude}" destdir="${.java.src.output}" preprocessdir="${apt.src.output.dir}" classpathref="java.classpath" factory="${aggregated.factory.class}" factorypathref="apt.factory.path" options="${apt.options}" compile="false" memoryinitialsize="512m" memoryMaximumSize="1024m" fork="true" />
    This particular line is executed for 17 to 18 mins. The Command prompt will be ideal for those 18 mins with the below message:

  • Someone with x86_64 please try to build handbrake-svn [SOLVED]

    I've been going nuts trying to build this package on my x86_64 system:  http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=29320
    See the errors I posted in the AUR.  Basically, it builds just fine on a i686 chroot but not on my native x86_64 machine.
    1) Can someone with an x86_64 machine please try to build it and let me know if it errors out or completes successfully?
    2) Any thoughts why it would fail on one arch but work just fine on the other?
    EDIT: Nevermind... problem wasn't with the arch at all, it was with my /tmp having a noexec mount option!

    so far the only really bad thing i've noticed in kde4 is the slow performance while accessing websites under kde4's konqueror, it is really slow looking up and loading the websites.  Must be some dns or ipv6 bug...
    Am I correct that you are using an AVM or AVM built OEM router? (the may be some from other vendors affected too).
    Its a well known bug an easy workaround not using your local router for DNS but the DNS from your provider (in your resolv.conf) or for example the one from opendns.  Another workaround is to use a local dns proxy.
    The bug is: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154774  but it is closed now, as it has nothing to do with konqueror.
    Further discussion about it is here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162600
    Please tell what router you are using.
    Yea i figured it out earlier.  I am using the modem's IP as the dns, and telling dhcpcd not to modify resolv.conf.  But even with epiphany or firefox, if i use my router as the DNS it feels slower, not as slow as kde4/konqueror, but it is slower than if I use my modem's IP (or the ISP DNS) in resolv.conf.
    My router is an old Netgear WGR614 v4.  Besides the slow DNS lookups, it is giving me some other issues with wireless encryption... it is about time to upgrade it i guess...
    Thanks for the info.

  • How to mark build as partially succeed from pre-build script

    Hello,
    is there a way how to mark build as partially succeed from pre-build script?
    And, also insert some text in Build Summary? (Other Errors and Warnings area will be fine)
    I was trying to use "Write-Error "My Test Error" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue" but it is not working.
    Thanks,
    Jiri

    Hi Jiri,
    I think John's reply in this thread will be helpful to you. The short answer is that your pre-build script should return a value to indicate whether the script success or not. Modify the TFS build process template via adding BuildDetail.Status = BuildStatus.Failed
    activity when the script failed.
    Please check this link for the details:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/aacc32f1-bc29-4a85-bff3-4be1a43542e6/build-continues-after-prebuild-script-fails?forum=tfsbuild
    And if you want to insert some error or warning message on the TFS build summary page, you needs to modify the TFS build process template as well. Please check:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/buckh/archive/2012/06/07/how-to-customize-the-build-summary-page-in-tfs-2012-without-a-plug-in.aspx

  • LV8: Tools- "convert build script" - shortcuts fail

    When I convert a LV7 Build Script into a LV8 project using the built-in conversion wizard, it works quite well, except for the Installer.  It is created as a blank spec (which is no big drama since I know that this is one area that has been improved in LV8), but there is one small thing.  I am unable to add any Start Menu Shortcuts (clicking on the + button does nothing at all).  I also notice that I am unable to set any folder as the default installation folder (in the Source Files tab).  I can edit the project file manually myself and add in the shortcuts and set the default directory, and then all is well - I can add further shortcuts, define the default folder etc.  But obviously it would be nice not to have to do this.  It has happened on several build scripts - every one I that have converted, so I don't think it is anything perculiar to my Labview programs.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

    Hi Andy,
    I have also face a similar problem, when I tried to use the "Convert build Script" Utility in LV 8, while converting a build script, originally built using LV 5.1 .I too am not being able to add shortcuts, to the new installer.
    Addtionally, I am facing the problem of my installer build being unsuccessful. I have created the exe successfully, and have tried building the installer, with the LV 8, and with no extra components. But i get the same error. Could you please identify the problem?\
    Thanks a lot in advance,

    Correct.

    As for cookies. Quit the App Store. Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder.
