Plsql script timing out...?

I'm finding that when I run a script on a particular server it sometimes runs through all the way but if the time it takes is too long (say there are more than a certain number of records) it seems to hang. The limit seems to be about two hours. There is no error message, it just doesn't complete and the records don't seem to go. I am pretty confident this is not a bug in the script. Could it be timing out? Is there a server setting that would make this happen and if so can i find it out using sqlplus without being logged in as a sysadmin, so that at least I know what to ask the person who can make adjustments?

As you don't say, what your script is doing, it is hard to say. But a wild guess would be, that you are modifying some data within this script and there are other transactions going on while the script is running. And by chance (the longer the script runs the bigger the chance), some records you are trying to modify in your script are already modifyed but not commited. So your session (i.e. script) is waiting until the other session issues a commit/rollback. And if the other transaction doesn't do a commit/rollback (he/she probably went for lunch) it seems your script is timing out.

  • Help -- Script timing out during http event listener

    So, I have created an HTTPService to retrieve an XML file. The event listener is basically just parsing that XML file and doing another necessary calculation. Unfortunately, the script times out because while small in size, there's a lot of data in it.  I know there's a way to override this with the compiler, but this doesn't seem like a smart thing to do. What are other solutions?
    I need the XML data to be loaded when the Flash player loads because it basically displays graph data that people need to be able to see as soon as the page finishes loading.
    Thanks so much for you input. I didn't anticipate this timeout problem!

    I changed my code to use the URLLoader(), not that it would resolve the problem, but maybe it's the preferred way to do this?
    Project Overview (that's relevant):
    The XML data is a bunch of numbers that I need to display on a graph as soon as the page is loaded. So, it must be parsed and obviously remapped to the height of the panel.
    The mostly relevant code:
    // openXML() is being called by my controller, which is called by my application's initialize
    public function openXML():void {
                var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
                loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadXML);
                loader.load(new URLRequest(xmlURL));
    private function loadXML(evt:Event):void {
                trace("start");
                var xml:XML = new XML(evt.target.data);
                // setup all <R> (Reading) tags as an xml list
                xmlList = xml.R;
                for (var i:int=0;i<xmlList.length();i++) {
                    value[i]=xmlList.v[i];
                // each value will then need to be remapped to fit the panel
                // call the gsrController -- which will in turn draw all this stuff
    So the problem is, I'm new to Flex, and the lack of multithreading seems to be hurting me? I would LOVE for a way for the openXML() file to be able to return the xmlList so that I can take all of that logic OUT of that event listener, which is the way it should be. But how could I do that? I don't think that I can tell openXML() to wait on that event listener before it returns anything - haha.
    When I was testing this stuff a few days ago, everything was working perfectly, it was when I used data that corresponded to 40 minutes worth of video that it became a problem!
    (And to provide a better overview of what I'm doing, the XML data is for drawing this line that the video player ticker is syncing up with as the video plays......)

  • Apple Script - Apple Event is Timing Out

    i am a novice at apple scripting. i have written an apple script for backing up my desktop to my iPod. i was able to do this based on the basic info in my "panther- the missing manual" book that i have. i have the basic script working but after about 2 minutes into the backup, my "Script Editor" icon in the toolbar starts bouncing and when i click on it, i get a window that says that the apple event has timed out. the backup continues and finishes without problems. however, i would like to edit the apple script to correct this issue and eliminate this error message. i have tried experimenting with applescript commands but i have not been able to find a good primer to learn the language. i need to add script that will allow the event to run for four minutes before it times out.
    anyone know the applescript wording to fix my error message?
    thanks
    G4 Quicksilver AGP Graphics 500   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Place the statements inside a block such as:
    with timeout of 240 seconds
    --commands
    end timeout
    (9861)
    thanks for getting back to me. i tried to use this additional script before, after and inside my original script and still was timing out.
    this is the last script i tried. the compiler compiles is fine. i just keep getting the "timeout" error message after two minutes. i have also tried your the additional script before the "tell" and after the "end tell". complies and runs fine in these other locations but still get the error message after two minutes.
    tell application "Finder"
    with timeout of 300 seconds
    --commands
    end timeout
    duplicate folder "Desktop" of folder "alan" of folder "users" of startup disk to disk "Encrypted iPod" with replacing
    end tell

    What is the application release? What is the OS?
    Was this working before? If yes, what changes have been done recently?
    Did you try to run AutoConfig and see if it completes successfully?

  • Session Time out or script Time out

    Hi Guys,
    Can someone advise me here.
    I have a form that asks several questions, Im using DW and an
    access database, this all works....BUT
    Some users seem to take a long time to fill in the form and
    they get an error and i think its as their session has timed out..
    When I used DW to make my log in page it added
    Server.ScriptTimeout = 90
    Is this the code i need to adapt to lengthen time for the
    user?
    Any support is very welcome.
    Thanks

    Thank you I will give it a go,
    I wasnt sure if I was using 'session script timeout 'if i
    could use 'session timeout' too.
    Is there any particualr place on my page I should use the
    'session timeout'.?
    Say I have it on the log in page....when the user goes to my
    form to fill it in will I also need to add the session timeout on
    the forms page to, or will it be enough to have set this when
    logging in?
    Thanks again

  • Error: Network Connection Timed Out

    I am beyond ****** off at the moment. My iTunes was working perfectly until two weeks ago, and now it insists my Network Connection Timed Out when I try to access the store or update podcasts.
    It can't be my internet connection, because as you can see, I'm able to access the internet. For some reason it's this specific copy of iTunes (7.5), because the iT7 downstairs works perfectly. Of course, since Apple are so fecking stingy, I can't add a few files from there without wiping everything off my iPod.
    So here's the run-down:
    I'm using a Dell Inspiron 8600, Windows XP, browsing with Firefox and attempting to load the latest podcasts onto my iPod Shuffle. I don't give a toss about downloading songs, I just want to update my podcasts without having to search the net for the source file.
    I ran the Network Diagnostics and it insists the Conneciton to iTunes failed, suggesting I adjust my cable (i don't have one - it's wireless) or flush my dns settings (which i've done several times).
    I found a thread on these forums from March and tried every solution:
    - uninstalling and reinstalling itunes... doesn't work.
    - opening Internet Explorer 7, then opening iTunes... doesn't work.
    - searching for a host file and removing the phobos apple line... doesn't work. The phobos line wasn't there
    - using itunes 7... doesn't work.
    - flushing my dns... doesn't work.
    - turning off my firewall.... doesn't work.
    - avoiding clashes with mcafee or zone alarm... doesn't work, cos i don't use those
    I think it's appalling that I've tried all this, and i'm still no closer to knowing what the problem is, and that Apple failed to respond to any of the other people's problems in the earlier thread. And that i spent about ten minutes signing up to this fecking forum just to ask for help. Surely support should be readily available to anyone!
    Can anybody help me? In the other thread, people found alternative sites for buying music, but has anyone got an alternative, ipod-compatible podcasting program?

    I have this same problem. Here's what I can add to this discussion - iTunes accessed the iTunes store a day or two ago. I have a home network and can access the internet from all of the networked PCs. I can access the iTunes store from all of the networked PCs using Internet Explorer. I can access the iTunes store from my laptop iTunes. I can not access the iTunes store from my workstation PC. I get the same "network connection timed out" message. I downloaded and installed a new (same version) of iTunes on the workstation PC. both the laptop and the workstation are running the same OS (Windows XP SP2), both are Dell computers, both are accessing the internet via a wired connection to the same switch and the same router. All other internet connections work fine.
    What's different? In the last couple of days my Workstation lost access to a network printer. I worked with HP for over an hour to re-establish network connection to that printer with no success. I have access to the same networked printer from my laptop.
    The IP address for the network printer is identical to what it was when it was installed - HP suggests looking for a change to the IP address. I made no changes to the workstation PC, the home network or the router, ISP, or internet connection.
    But, it seems to me that the loss of access to the HP networked printer and the inability of iTunes to access the iTunes store are related.
    I also called Apple and attempted to get technical support. I own 4 iPods with 104 Gbs of storage on them, I own 1900 CDs and iTunes has 36.5 days of music loaded into it.
    I purchased Apple Care on all of the iPods - it's expired and they never warned me. They want to charge me $29 to fix this problem - even though I no longer can purchase music via the iTunes Store, so I need to pay $29 in order to gain access to the iTunes store to spend more money with Apple?! Not a smart business decision. I own a few other PC based music programs and more than willing to transfer all of it out of iTunes and into one of the other products. I'll sell all the iPods on eBay and purchase other MP3 players if I must.
    But, I suspect the problem is (1) Apple doesn't have a documented answer to this problem, (2) the level 1 techs that answer the support phone are clueless - they just e-mailed me the same article from the Apple website that I told them I read and does not apply to my problem, and obviously does not resolve my problem. (3) Apple is not setup to resolve this type of problem with their level 1 support, and they can't escalate the problem without charging us.
    I'll try again on Monday, may even purchase Apple Care first and then use that. The Apple Care Tech Support is typically better than the free level 1 call in support.
    Suggestions, comments, etc. are all appreciated.

  • AIM connection timed out

    For the past few days I haven't been able to login to either AIM or iChat. I usually only use AIM. I have been useing AIM on this computer for over a year and this is the first time I've ever had this type of problem. I am wirelessly connected to a cable modem via a wireless router (the connection is shared with a desktop PC).
    When I try to sign onto AIM (version 4.7 for mac) it usually stalls at the login process screen saying "looking for service" or "connecting." Next I get an error message ("Your Attention Please" box) that says "The connection could not be completed because it timed out."
    I have tried changing the way I connect to the internet, but that didn't work. I then tried to change the port (several times) but that would not work either. I have also tried to uninstall and reinstall AIM, but that also failed.
    Like I mentioned before, I have been using this software for over a year. No settings have been changed on my computer, the connections, the router, or the cable modem until after I started to have problems loging on.
    Please help!

    Okay. I tried everything listed in your last post and the faq that you sent me. I have changed the settings of my Firewall, but my firewall is not turned on. I have also made sure that I have the multiple login box is selected. I was having unrelated software problems which required me to upgrade my operating system software. I went through the faq and checked all the settings but nothing seemed to be in dissaray although I'm not really sure that I know what I'm looking at or for. I'm not sure if this stuff will help but I am copying and pasteing all the information from my system profiler...

    Hi,
    Verify your mysqld start script. If you find a --skip-networking parameter, remove or comment and try again.
    In slackware /etc/rc.d/rc.mysql have a line with: SKIP="--skip-networking"
    And in mysqld_start():
    /usr/bin/mysqld_safe datadir=/var/lib/mysql pid-file=/var/run/mysql/mysql.pid $SKIP &
    Comment the #SKIP="--skip-networking" or remove $SKIP (the first is recomended)

  • BPM CE 7.2 Get Timed Out calling RFC

    Hi experts
    I am new in BPM with RFC on CE 7.2
    I have created a simple process with Message Start, Message End and an Automated Activity that executes a RFC, but when I perform this process its get time out, log:
    Dynamic client generated from wsdl. WSDL: http://10.1.5.47:50000/bpm/demosapcom/testes/TesteTrigger3?wsdl. The server response timed out.
    Error details: Read timed out
    I am using WebServices Navigator to perform the process, is there another way to do that ? Performing the process like this I can´t debug it.

    Tks Arafat Farooqui
    I have found the log and now I am looking for the way to solve exception below:
    I also try to configure the Destination on "Application Communication: Configuration" because there is a message "No destination selected" but the buttons "Configure" and "Remove Configuration" are disabled, what should I do to enable these buttons ?
    Could not read the destination from ESB Configuration

  • Problem: connection timed out

    Hi
    I deployed an application in two servers.I am getting the output properly in one of the servers.In the other one, i am getting an error stating that "connection timed out:connect".
    can anyone say what exactly the problem is?
    Regards
    Yoga

    Hi,
    Is your application acessing any external system like a database or r/3. If the query you are making takes too long(due to large number of results or a bad performance of the script that runs on the backend), this problem happens.
    Please check out the performance of  other applications on the new server .If there are no such problems ,then your application must be improved for better performance,for example when it makes a query.
    Regards,
    Harish Subramanian

    When I just reset db listener everything works ok for next 1-2 hours (depends on application load). So temporary solution is to run bat script from windows scheduler to reset the listener every 1h.
    I tried everything I could find - applied these parameters:
      - Sqlnet.ora:
      SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT=180
      SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME=5
      - Listener.ora:
      INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER_IPC=120
    But still without success

    Is the problem here just that you need a connection pool that closes idle connections?  Some pools will close idle connections after a time out period.  And the pool lets you set that time out period.  If the pool you are using doesn't provide that then use a different pool.

    I am developing a web application in OC4J(1.0.2.2.1), today I found a problem: Client access the server, nothing but only the following content be returned:
    "Description: Connection timed out"
    I used the com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource and com.evermind.sql.OrionPooledDataSource for database invoke, were they timed out?
    My developing environment:
    AppServer: OC4J(1.0.2.2.1)
    DBServer: Orcale 9i
    ServerOS: MS Windows 2000 Server
    ClientOS: MS Windows 2000 Professional
    JDK: 1.3.1_01
    thank for your any info.

    Hi,
    Verify your mysqld start script. If you find a --skip-networking parameter, remove or comment and try again.

    Hi,
    Are you trying to install on Vmware Workstation or Vmware Server?
    If you are using vmware server add below line in your .vmx file for both node
    scsi1.sharedBus = "VIRTUAL"
    First check which scsi serial number are you using as above I have selected scsi1 serial during disk addition,
