Plug-ins and horrible FF 32: For example, tells me that Adobe Acrobat 10.0.0.396 is insecure

I really, really, really hate FF 32 because it doesn't work right. That took me days to figure out. I couldn't figure out my problems at first--ran virus tools, etc., but it's FF. I tried for 2 hours (that I don't have) to figure out how to go back to FF31 but that seems to be impossible for a normal user. FF 32 won't go to many web pages, locks up, etc., BUT in addition, it doesn't like add-ons that are current and will not let me enable them: Acrobat as above (I have Acrobat Pro 10, not Reader, which conflicts with Acrobat Pro by the way so have Pro), Java Development Toolkit 6.0.250.6 "seems to be vulnerable" and of course Java platform. Please tell me how to get rid of the ridiculous security restrictions, which are causing me H_LL. Here's the thing. I don't want to use IE or Chrome, but Yahoo Mail will no longer work correctly with Windows 7. If you don't help me, I have to become a Chrome user. It's as simple as that. It's not allowing me to change the activation on the plug-ins or even activate the ones that are there automatically, which I really would not do in general. I'm not a new user, but this is TOO MUCH. HORRIBLE. Thanks. - Kay

Well I've never heard of the "Java Development Toolkit" plugin, but in case you meant the "Java '''Deployment''' Toolkit" -- you can delete this plugin without losing general Java content functionality in the browser. If you ''don't even need'' Java running in the browser, Oracle has a good guide on turning it "off" and all of these Java plugins will go away. That guide is located here: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/disable_browser.xml
I've learned that the Java Deployment Toolkit (also known as "Java DT") plugin is in fact considered "vulnerable" by Mozilla (and has been for a long time) but since that plugin is only designed for a specialized group of people, the default action of it being "blocked" isn't hindering the functioning of normal pc users (even in regards to the normal usage of Java.) Instead, they tend to get confused about the entire situation.
If you're interested in reading more about Java DT, there's a recent thread on mozillazine that talks about some of the security drama and confusion in regards to this plugin specifically. It also talks about the way to remove it too if you still need Java functionality in the browser. That thread is located here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2877359 I'd also recommend just turning it all off via that guide from Oracle -- I have desktop applications that require Java but up until recently the only time I really needed Java running in the browser was for Pogo games...and I've since learned that due to the security hysteria and mass confusion in the past year, they're now transitioning to flash-based gaming instead of Java. (And whether or not Flash offers more robust security over Java would require a whole new thread. Hint: it doesn't really.)
Also, a side-note on [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/philipp philipp's] answer -- I believe he is mistaking the standard Java plugin (the one needed for Java functionality in the browser) for Java DT. He mentions 1.6.0_25 which is an '''extremely old''' version of Java...version 6 in fact. To everyone reading this: these '''really old''' versions of software are full of security holes so it's best to update to the latest version, preferably Java 8 -- assuming you're still not on Windows XP. Everyone (again): if you're one of the 23% of people out there still on Windows XP, you seriously need to go out shopping as Microsoft security support for that OS ended earlier this year. The newest version of Java 8 is actually relatively good, even over version 7. You also can't get too comfortable with one version of Firefox either -- it's on a "rapid release" schedule so be prepared to deal with new GUI elements and other annoyances monthly. Being "annoyed" with Firefox just "comes with the territory" of using this browser -- at least at one point or another. You have to be prepared for constant change with Firefox because otherwise you'll miss out on the necessary security updates. Don't pretend you can live on [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/ ESR versions] forever too -- these are not meant for the "individual user." In fact, [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/33.0/releasenotes/ Firefox 33] just came out yesterday so you may want to try it.

  • Manual update for plug ins and extensions not working

I've just noticed that when I attempt to manually check for updates either in plug ins and/or extensions from the gear symbol drop down screen that I get the drop down screen, but, the check for updates function does not work. It just sits there with nothing happening. I have to close the screen to get out of that function. Anybody know anything about this?

Thanks you for your comments. I would mention that this problem just started with the update to FF 37.0.4 I tried restarting FF in safe mode with no effect on the above mentioned problem. Any other thoughts?

  • Why Adobe does not say that some plug-ins and filters on a 64-bit Apple computers do not work?

I called assistance, and the only proposal that I have done was to make new installations, or create a new user.
Then I found this article on the web!
..."Unfortunately, to accommodate the new programming code that allows for 64-bit processing, some plug-ins and filters—the built-in
Variations and Lighting Effects, for example—only work in 32-bit mode, and that surely will disappoint some users. Moreover, most t
hird-party plug-ins too will work only in 32-bit mode, until they are updated. Thankfully, it’s easy (though not especially convenie
nt) to switch between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the program; just select the application icon, choose File->Get Info, turn o
n the 32-bit option, and relaunch Photoshop."
It is not a system so simple for a person working with photoshop files very large (Over 6/7 GB). You lose several minutes of time.
The tests carried out then the difference in performance from 64 to 32 Bit is 40-50% faster in 64 bit mode. This is also why the 64-bit version you can assign more memory.
    Someone from Adobe can answer?
    Then, to conclude.
But the icons of some new palette of photoshop could not make it more beautiful and not ugly and unpleasant?

  • Another computer of mine is running windows 7 64 bit and it shows 4 different realplayer or derivative of realplayer plug-ins which seems fishy to me. Are there that many availabe?

The hp laptop running windows 7 seems to me to be running very strange and many programs have appeared that I did not download as if someone else is actually using it as a server. I am constantly changing passwords, updating plug-ins, software, using a wired ethernet linksys router wrt54g for my lan and still have problems with settings getting changed, programs not working , developer programs appearing, having to reboot, ad infinitum and now I am looking at my Firefox Plug-Ins and see RealJukebox NS, RealNetworks RealPlayer Chrome Background Extension, RealPlayer G2 LiveConnect-Enabled, RealPlayer Browser Record, and RealPlayer HTML5VideoShim not to mention the non-RealPlayer Plug-Ins. My question is do all of these exist and why would I have them when I did not install them. Also, would I need them for Windows 7 64 bit. Any information provided will be most appreciated. I'm about to quit and look for another hobby.

    Hi,
Have you tried ping ip address of printer? and check if there exists any data lost in network connection. If your network connection is crowded, it can cause delay for printer.
Also, please attempt to disable all security software temporarily, such as antivirus, firewalls, etc and
    clear all printer cache.
Locate to task manager, check the state of spoolsv.exe, including cpu and memory. If it has high cpu or memory usage, it may be caused by malware. Thus, you'd better to make a full scan with the latest anti-virus.

    HI..
If you are using Adobe Reader ...
Try uninstalling the current copy of Adobe Reader first.
Best to use a utility to do this to make sure all the associated files are removed as well >  Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
    Then reinstall >  http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • I have been using aurora and updated to 12.0a2 and my computer continually freezes even after disabling all plug-ins and i have even dumped stuff from the memory on my hard drive.

i continually get the same 12.0a2 update box that pops up in the bottom right corner even though i have the updated version and i have to wait for the aurora updater to do something everytime i start a new session. i went through and disabled all plug-ins and have no extensions active and this doesn't solve the problem. according to plug-in check all plug-ins are up to date. aurora does crash every once in a while where it closes out all my windows...but i do not get the crash report anymore to report it. is there a problem with aurora? i even updated FF in case that had a factor in the crashes/freezes!! FF used to do this same thing all the timea fter a new update but this is ridiculous!! WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? typos courtesy of freezing!!!is there a problem with aurora? i can't go more than 2 minutes without constant freezing and the "not responding" message. i have run scans on my computer weekly since i updated to aurora and there is no threats/problems...why does this keep happening?
addendum...i have added the crash reports for the last week...does that give any insight into why this keeps happening?

i am not sure what this means? "not for public use"? i did not seek out another version of FF it was an option on mozilla's page when i needed to update FF!! i know that i will run into these problems if i do not keep current and it was an option so i chose it. are you suggesting that i dump aurora from my system and go back to using just FF? i'm not a developer or know anything deep regarding the physical or logical of systems...i am just trying to keep good maintenance on my system!! i need a browser that works with me and not against me...chrome does not do what i need...neither does opera...FF is the only browser that i have used for almost 4 years now and i don't plan on going back to IE or changing to those mentioned above...i just want to know that when i see new offerings on mozilla products and i accept them into my system that they work much better than what i am experiencing currently!! i get that it is open-sourced and therefore a work in progress

    BINGO !!!!
Thanks so much Woodsroad. I had the exact same problem with my Dell Windows 7 64 bit with AMD Radeon 6700 Video card.
All the video tests passed with flying colors.
The sniffer rename trick fixed the problem.

  • 3rd party plug-ins and PS4 16-bit

I have Vista 64-bit installed as my OS. I installed PS4 which automatically installed as a 64-bit version. I attempted to install my Kodak Pro/Roc/Sho/Air plug ins, but they don't appear in the filter menu. I have never had a problem with this issue when it was still 32-bit and I don't know where to go from here. I've talked to Kodak, but after trying to sort it out with them, they decided they didn't want to  help anymore, so . . . here I am, and here's the problem expounded.
Photoshop is in my file list twice. Here's the path:
    c/program files/adobe/adobe photoshop cs4/plugins
         and here's the second path:
    c/program files x86/adobe/adobe photoshop cs4/plug-ins
As you can see, adobe has installed itself in both places, the program files folder and the program files x86 folder. I'm assuming it has something to do with the 64-bit version.
I have tried installing the plug-ins following Kodak's instructions. That didn't work. I tried installing them in both plug-in folders and that didn't work either. I'm at a loss and would appreciate any (highly specific) answers anyone with intimate knowledge of this issue may have. If you're only guessing, please don't waste your time or mine posting to this topic.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

You should try to be more accurate in your descriptions.  Your question is full of errors, though most of them can be understood.
    There's no such thing as a 64 bit PS4.  There's PS CS4 and there's PS 4.0.  I think you
    mean PS CS4.
What does "16-bit" have to do with anything?  There are 32 bit plug-ins and there
are 64-bit plug-ins.  32 bit plug-ins only work with 32 bit Photoshop, and
64 bit plug-ins only work with 64 bit Photoshop.
You said it automatically installed as a 64-bit version.  In reality, PS CS4 automatically
installs in BOTH 32 and 64 bit variants, so you can maintain compatibility with older
plug-ins.  You will specifically need to run the 32 bit Photoshop CS4 in order to
use your older 32 bit plug-ins.
There is no such path as
    c/program files x86/adobe/adobe photoshop cs4/plugins.
    What you probably mean is
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins
which is the 32 bit area into which to install plug-ins for PS CS4.
I'm sorry to sound overly picky, but details matter with computers.
    As MTSTUNER has said:
C:\Program Files (x86)\... is the install area for 32 bit apps.
You need to run the 32 bit Photoshop to access your 32 bit plug-ins.

  • Firefox continues to have"Not Reponding" issues. Upadated all plug-ins and disables most of them but issue still occurs, often.

Firefox continues to have"Not Responding" issues. Updated all plug-ins and disabled most of them but issue still occurs, OFTEN.

    Thank you for your reply,
I know that plugins aren't being outright disabled and that people need to be encouraged to keep up to date, it's just that there's a lopsided amount of focus on them as a security vector from Mozilla.
I must point out however, that javascript security at the moment seems to consist of an on-off switch on almost every browser in existence: there is no obvious way to set "I don't want that site to know where my mouse is for my privacy", "I don't want that site to dynamically load content because it slows my browser" or the sort.
While there is CAPS ( http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/components/ConfigPolicy.html ) it is not configurable from within the browser (and its existence at all is obfuscated) and considering a lot of javascript is obfuscated to discourage run-time modification (say using web development toolbars) or discourage CAPS usage, there's little way to know what exactly to use CAPS on without reverse engineering. The average user would not be able to do this.
Javascript security needs to be more, much more than an on/off switch.

  • Why are routine processes (mouse scrolling, viewing videos, appearance of typed text) filled with pauses? I've disabled or uninstalled most of my plug-ins, and don't encounter this problem with other browsers.

My problem is unique to the Firefox browser, and does not occur with Opera or IE.
Way too often (about once a minute or so), Firefox will suffer a brief pause in performing functions, even simple ones.
It is impossible for me to watch any video in Firefox without the picture pausing periodically. Oftentimes, text I type suffers a delay before appearing in a web form. Mouse scrolling is not very dependable at all.
I have disabled or uninstalled most of my plug-ins and add-ons, yet the problem still persists. I have attempted to streamline to only the most necessary plug-ins, but to no avail.
I love Firefox, but I don't like the choppy videos or downgrading of my productivity these problems are causing.

  • ANN: LR/Mogrify integration with Jeffrey Friedl's Plug-ins and LR/Transporters

    Hi all,
You've been asking for this, and thanks to Jeffrey's hard work it's now possible.
LR/Mogrify can now be used in tandem with any of Jeffrey's plug-ins and with my own LR/Transporter. Here are the appropriate links :

    Tim

    Congratulations, Tim!
Piglet architecture and your cooperation with Jeffrey so impressed me!
Now your tools fit to my workflow and work quite well for me.
(I am using transporter + mogrify piglet for automatic JPG proofs preparation and export to separate folder tree)
The main problem now (I am on PC) is spawning MOGRIFY.EXE - it is popping up for each image on top of the other windows and take focus, not allowing to do anything on PC until export finished.
I think it should be the way to use CORE_RL_magick_.dll directly from LUA code.
If not, spawning MOGRIFY.EXE _minimized_ will help alot.
Thank you for you geat tool again!

  • CS4 plug-ins, 3rd party plug-ins and filter problems

1- What happened to all the filters available in CS3? They were a good thing. Why does Adobe kill off what's already working well and looking good? For instance, where's the Distort>Diffuse???
2- Same thing with PS plug-ins and third party plug-ins. They're all gone, now that I've "upgraded." (A term I use with disgust.) I paid too much money for all the aggravation I've been experiencing with these three issues.
But I digress: I dragged plug-ins to the folder, but they still don't show up.
    Thank you.......
    iMac 23" 2.16 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo 3 GB RAM OS 10.5.5 ACR5.2
PS: Why does Adobe take away what finally works smoothly? Why offer a feature, and then take it back 18 months later with the next version? I'll sleep better at night if I can just understand how it helps the users to have the useful deleted.

First of all, make sure you have not moved the application icon or the application folder from the default install location, and that you have not created subfolders there in a misguided attempt to "organize" things.
Secondly, please tell us what you upgraded from. If you had been running some 3rd party plugins that are not written for Universal Binary, they may not run in a newer OS or a newer machine.
Third, please see the documentation or Adobe Photoshop's Principal Program Manager John Nack's blog for the stuff that
    was taken out in CS4:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/10/where_did_extra.html
Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow is right there where it's always been. If you don't see it, you're either in 16 bits or have a bad install.
