  • ABAP Logical Database ADA

Hi All, I am quite familiar with Logical Databases but I need to understand the following.
    1) I am using LDB ADA, but I want to use my own Selection Screen and not the default one that the LDB provides. I know I must put something in AT SELECTION-SCREEN but am unsure what.
    2) Once I get the data, I want to store the data in an internal table - how do I go about doing this? If you can provide a code example that would be great.
    Points for any relevant help.

    Hi,
A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute. The logical database then supplies the report program with a set of hierarchically structured table lines which can be taken from different database tables.
    Logical database structures
There are three defining entities in an SAP logical database. You must be clear on all three in order to create and use one.
Table structure: Your logical database includes data from specified tables in SAP. There is a hierarchy among these tables defined by their foreign keys (all known to SAP), and you are going to define a customized relationship between select tables. This structure is unique and must be defined and saved.
Data selection: You may not want or need every item in the referenced tables that contributes to your customized database. There is a selection screen that permits you to pick and choose.
Database access programming: Once you’ve defined your logical database, SAP will generate the access subroutines needed to pull the data in the way you want it pulled.
    Creating your own logical database
    Here’s a step-by-step guide:
    1) Call up transaction SLDB (or transaction SE36). The path you want is Tools | ABAP Workbench | Development | Programming Environment | Logical Databases. This screen is called Logical Database Builder.
    2) Enter an appropriate name in the logical database name field. You have three options on this screen: Create, Display, and Change. Choose Create.
    3) You’ll be prompted for a short text description of your new logical database. Enter one. You’ll then be prompted to specify a development class.
    4) Specify a root node, or a parent table, as the basis of your logical database structure. You can now place subsequent tables under the root table as needed to assemble the data object you want. You can access this tree from this point forward, to add additional tables, by selecting that root node and following the path Edit | Node | Create. Once you’ve saved the structure you define in this step, the system will generate the programming necessary to access your logical database. The best part is you don’t have to write a single line of code.
Noted point is we cant add any selection criteria thru our se38 program if you are attaching any LDB to program.Ist of no use.
If you want to change selection criteria to the existing LDB, you have to goto SE36 tcode and provide LDB name and choose "Change" mode by selecting "Selections" Radio button.
declaration of params is different compared to normal se38 program in some aspects.
PARAMETERS :p_curr LIKE bkpf-waers FOR TABLE bkpf OBLIGATORY.
this BKPF table should be one of the node in the "Structure" Radio button.
    Thanks

  • Do we have pointers in abap?

    Hi experts,
do we have pointers in abap as in C or C++.
    my requirements is something like..
i have dynamic data i have to store that in an internal table's field , which is also decided at runtime.
    all the suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Ashish

    Hi Ashish,
Field symbols are similar to dereferenced pointers in C (that is, pointers to which the content operator * is applied). However, the only real equivalent of pointers in ABAP, that is, variables that contain a memory address (reference) and that can be used without the contents operator, are reference variables in ABAP Objects. (For more information, see Data References).
All operations programmed with field symbols are applied to the field assigned to it. For example, a MOVE statement between two field symbols moves the contents of the field assigned to the first field symbol to the field assigned to the second field symbol. The field symbols themselves point to the same fields after the MOVE statement as they did before.
You can create field symbols either without or with type specifications. If you do not specify a type, the field symbol inherits all of the technical attributes of the field assigned to it. If you do specify a type, the system checks the compatibility of the field symbol and the field you are assigning to it during the ASSIGN statement.
Field symbols provide greater flexibility when you address data objects:
If you want to process sections of fields, you can specify the offset and length of the field dynamically.
You can assign one field symbol to another, which allows you to address parts of fields.
Assignments to field symbols may extend beyond field boundaries. This allows you to address regular sequences of fields in memory efficiently.
You can also force a field symbol to take different technical attributes from those of the field assigned to it.
The flexibility of field symbols provides elegant solutions to certain problems. On the other hand, it does mean that errors can easily occur. Since fields are not assigned to field symbols until runtime, the effectiveness of syntax and security checks is very limited for operations involving field symbols. This can lead to runtime errors or incorrect data assignments.
While runtime errors indicate an obvious problem, incorrect data assignments are dangerous because they can be very difficult to detect. For this reason, you should only use field symbols if you cannot achieve the same result using other ABAP statements.
Before you can work with a field symbol, you must assign a data object to it. If you attach a structure to a field symbol, you assign a data object to it in the declaration. Untyped field symbols point to the predefined data object SPACE once the program starts. SPACE has type C and length 1. Typed field symbols do not point to any field before a data object is assigned to them.
During a program, you can assign data objects to field symbols at any time. You can also assign a series of different data objects to the same field symbol during a program.
To assign a data object to a field symbol, use the ASSIGN statement. The ASSIGN statement has several variants and parameters.

  • ABAP proxy code using internal table

    Hi XI guru's,
    Good Afternoon,
My Scenario is ABAP Proxy to file using ztable.
i am getting data from Sap R/3 data base as Ztable. using this Ztable i have to write ABAP Proxy code. I generated ABAP Proxy and mentioned all below. Please send me ABAP Proxy code using this details. This is very urgent. Please help me.
    ABAP proxy class:   zco_mioa_tata
    structure              :   zmt_tata
    structure                :   zdt_tata
    structure                :   zdt_tata_employee
    Table                :   zdt_tata_employee_tab
    Ztable                :   zcnu_proxy_table
    outbound structure:
    mt_tata
        employee
    thanks and regards
    sai

    Sai,
I guess this will help you.
    1. Proxies can be a server proxy or client proxy. In our scenarios we require proxies to send or upload the data from/into SAP system.
    2. One more thing proxies can be used if your WAS ≥ 6.2.
    3. Use Tcode SPROXY into R/3 system for proxy use.
    4. To send the data from R/3 system we use OUTBOUND PROXY. In Outbound proxy you will simply write an abap code to fetch the data from R/3 tables and then send it to XI. Below is the sample code to send the data from R/3 to XI.
    REPORT zblog_abap_proxy.
DATA prxy TYPE REF TO zblogco_proxy_interface_ob.
    CREATE OBJECT prxy.
    DATA it TYPE zblogemp_profile_msg.
    TRY.
    it-emp_profile_msg-emp_name = 'Sarvesh'.
    it-emp_profile_msg-empno = '01212'.
    it-emp_profile_msg-DEPARTMENT_NAME = 'NetWeaver'.
    CALL METHOD prxy->execute_asynchronous
    EXPORTING
    output = it.
    commit work.
    CATCH cx_ai_system_fault .
DATA fault TYPE REF TO cx_ai_system_fault .
    CREATE OBJECT fault.
    WRITE :/ fault->errortext.
    ENDTRY.
Receiver adapter configurations should be done in the integration directory and the necessary sender/receiver binding should be appropriately configured. We need not do any sender adapter configurations as we are using proxies.
    5. To receive data into R/3 system we use INBOUND PROXY. In this case data is picked up by XI and send it to R/3 system via XI adapter into proxy class. Inside the inbound proxy we careate an internal table to take the data from XI and then simply by using the ABAP code we update the data inot R/3 table. BAPI can also be used inside the proxy to update the data into r/3.
I hope this will clear few doubts in proxy.

  • ABAP Documentation Generation, Javadoc-like

    Hello everyone,
I've got one topic to discuss that I do not find very much information about on SCN. It's about documentation. and I don't mean SAP documentation like help.sap.com, but the documentation about the software we (=developers) are producing by writing ABAP-code. That thing that we tend to neglect.
So is there any tool that is similar to [Javadoc|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javadoc], something like a ABAP Documentation Generator? A tool that generates a code-based documentation out of the source-code comments? As far as I know, there is no such functionality in the ABAP workbench. The only community project I found was ABAP Docs, but that seems to be inactive and is not even accessibly online.
How do you document your software? Do you use external tools, anything that is integrated into the SAP system? Or is it a completely segregated solution like we use in my company (Word)? What strategies do you use to create Architecture Documentation, Technical Documentation and End User Documentation?
It seems to me that there are lots of software solutions that can create modern documentation including different formats, layout templates, guidelines etc. But I haven't found anything related to ABAP development. Maybe the best example is Wikipedias [Comparison of documentation generators|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_documentation_generators]. Just search for ABAP.
I am looking forward to read about your experiences in documenting ABAP software!

Surprisingly (more or less) the list has no entry for a tool that supports ABAP, that was my point.
In the [Language support|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_documentation_generators#Language_support] table there is an Any With Comments column. Looking at the examples for [Natural Docs|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_Docs] and [ROBODoc|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROBODoc], they might work for ABAP too. YMMV
    Hope this helps,
    Rossen

  • Questions on Structured table

    Hello ABAP Gurus,
Kindly explain the difference between the Structured table and transparent table.
and how to add field in a structured table?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you very much!

    hi,
Structure does'nt hold any data.it is just a collection of fields.
Table Holds data.it contains fields and data.
    Fields are contained in table.
In structure-only runtime values can be stored
    In table-can store data permanently
In fields-group of entry/data which r placed in ordered manner within table

  • Export the database schema / structure to a file server

I would really appreciate if any of you can share your experience on the following:
    Database-1: Oracle 8i/9i and
    Database-2: SQL Server v65/7/2000
I am looking for a solution to extract all the database schema/structure to a pre-defined location onto a file server. I wanted to configure this thru CRON job (for unix) and Microsoft Task Scheduler (for Windows). Also this solution should work for all databases (must work with Oracle, SQL Server). The exported file should not be just a dump file (.dmp), assuming only oracle can read .dmp file.
What are the possible ways to accomplish this.
I am sure, several tools would be available to accomplish this (like Embarcadero Change Manager), but solution may not be cost effective. Can we write any program to accomplish the same?
I would really appreciate your inputs.
    Thanks, Madhavi

I am doing this job using bcp command on sql serverwhich create dat file and then transport the file to oracle server in location where I have created an external table.
I belive that there is server level compatability which need no external programe or software. My one fellow told me once and when I got him I shall reply

  • How to update toplink if i change structure table

    Step1:
I add toplink into project then i add my methods.
    Step 2:
    I will change structure table.
    Step 3:
How do i can update toplink which don't lost data.
    Please help me!!!

The mapping tooling for TopLink/EclipseLink in JDeveloper, Eclipse IDE, and the standalone Workbench provide support for importing new table structures and then assiting you with updating your mappings to reflect the changes in the database and the corresponding changes you will make in the persistent domain model.

  • Difference between Database view and Table

    Hi there,
Can anyone tell me the difference between Database view and Table.
Will the Database view query be more faster than a database table?

Tables and database views can be defined in the ABAP Dictionary.
These objects are created in the underlying database with this definition. Changes in the definition of a table or database view are also automatically made in the database.
Data from several tables can be combined in a meaningful way using a view (join).
You can also hide information that is of no interest to you (projection) or only display
those data records that satisfy certain conditions (selection).
Database views implement an inner join. You only get those records which have an
entry in all the tables included in the view.
in views db modifications are not possible
views only contain data at run time
    when they consult the database
in case of views the join definitions are already sstored in the database itself
whereas join as open sql is a query to oracle  database as similar select statements
Views are optimized by SAP and stored in the repository while Joins
are in reports that needs to be compiled at every execution

  • Pointers in ABAP

    hello all,
can any one plz tell me what are pointers in ABAP n how they can be used in report?
    thanks for help.
    regards,
    vikas

in ABAP Pointers call as Field symbols and see the example programs :
    REPORT CHAP2401.
    Defining a Field Symbol
    FIELD-SYMBOLS <FS>.
    Variable for later use
    DATA FIELD VALUE 'X'.
Assigning a field to a Field Symbol
    ASSIGN FIELD TO <FS>.
Using a Field Symbol which has an assigned field
    WRITE <FS>.
    Another one :
    REPORT zfield_symbols .
    TYPES: BEGIN OF t_p0121,
    pernr TYPE pa0121-pernr,
    rfp01 TYPE pa0121-rfp01,
    rfp02 TYPE pa0121-rfp02,
    rfp03 TYPE pa0121-rfp03,
    rfp04 TYPE pa0121-rfp04,
    END OF t_p0121.
DATA: it_p0121 TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF t_p0121 INITIAL SIZE 0,
    wa_p0121 TYPE t_p0121.
    DATA: gd_index TYPE string,
    gd_rfp0 TYPE string.
    FIELD-SYMBOLS: <fs1>, <fs2>.
    *Start-of-selection.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    SELECT pernr

    WA_P0121-RFP01 = '1234'.
    CONCATENATE 'WA_P0121-RFP01' gd_index INTO gd_rfp0.
Now watch how the values change as you loop around the table fields
    LOOP AT it_p0121 INTO wa_p0121.
    write:/.
    write:/ wa_p0121-pernr.
    CLEAR: gd_index.
    DO.
    gd_index = gd_index + 1.
    CONCATENATE 'WA_P0121-RFP0' gd_index INTO gd_rfp0.
    assign with brackets
ASSIGN (gd_rfp0) TO <fs1>. "assigns the value of field name contained in variable
fs1 value would be the value of the field WA_P0121-RFP01..21
    i.e. if index 1 and WA_P0121-RFP01 = 1234 then fs1 would = 1234
    assign without brackets
ASSIGN gd_rfp0 TO <fs2>. " assigns the exact value contained in the field
fs1 value would literally be the same as the field WA_P0121-RFP01..21
    i.e. if index 1 then fs2 would = 'WA_P0121-RFP01'
    index 2 then fs2 would = 'WA_P0121-RFP02' etc...
you may also notice that once assigned any change made to the field gd_rfp0
is instantly reflected in the field symbol (fs2) so technically you could perform
the assign command once outside of the loop, but i have left it here to aid
    readability.
    write:/ <fs2>, <fs1>.
IF gd_index GE 21. "exit once last field has been read
    EXIT.
    ENDIF.
    ENDDO.
    ENDLOOP.

  • % of load on abap and database in se30

    Hi,
I have created a report for vendor balance, it is working fine and also i am getting data in very short time  i want to know about performance analysis with SE30
When i am running report of only one month then on abap  it is taking   85 %  and on database  12% and on system 3 %
ans same report when i am running for 6 to 8 months  it is taking   65 %  and on database  33% and on system 2 %, i sit ok ,    can you give some tips how to do it and how to reduce load from particular like abap or database or system  or whatever i am getting is right.
    regards,
      zafar

    Hi Zafar,
First of all, the relative usages of the three components depends on the amount of data; for different loads on the system and the DB, the output will be different.
Now, if you check the output of SE30 carefully (the graph screen), you will see two buttons on top, one of them is the List Display button. Click that button to see a list of statements / code blocks.
Here, if you sort by the "Gross %" or the "Net %" columns, you'll get to know which statement is consuming maximum system resources. If you double-click on any line, the system takes you directly to that code block (there is also another button on this screen to show you the actual code). Try to optimise these code segments for better performance.
Typically, there will be entries like "Fetch <DBTable>" which will show a high system usage. These are your SELECT statements which access the database. Optimise your SELECT queries as far as possible.
Hope this is useful! Please revert if you need anything else.
    Cheers,
    Shailesh.

  • How can find  database field and table name

how can find the underline database field name, table name from java page. Example. in oracle apps when we go purchaseing super user then supplier base then supplier and find supplier detail .

    Hi,
depends on your model. If you work with ADF BC then you can use ViewLinks to access parent or detail infromation programmatically. See the developer guides for more information. Note that you wont access the tables directly but the collections that represent the records

  • How to call a BAPI when there are structure tables as Input.

Environment: Data Services 3.1  SAP ECC 6.
I can run simple BAPI's where I just populate the Input Parameters.
My question is around more complex BAPI's.
I created a data flow that looks like:
Row Generation > Query > Unnest Query > Template table.
Inside of the query I created a new Function and called the BAPI_PROJECT_MAINTAIN.
This BAPI requires adding data as part of the Structure Tables in the BAPI.  I see these tables in the SAP Data Store and I also see a single input field in the Data Services Function Wizard that desribes the Structure.
My question is - how do I populate the fields when it comes from a Structure Table in the BAPI?

A table parameter is a schema, so you need an upfront query where you create that schema with the nested data. The schema is then mapped to the table parameter, the columns of the schema have to match by name.

  • How to use database look up table function in xsl mapping

Can anybody tell me how to use database look up table function while mapping xsl between 2 nodes.
I have an XML file coming in and depending on one of XML elements we need to decide which further path to take. But, using this XML element, we need to query database table, get metadata and accordingly take appropriate path. I have written lookup function which returns metadata value.
Now, the issue is how do I pass the XML element valu as input to look up function? When I tried to drag it to the input node of lookup function, it throws an error like "Maximum number of parameters exceeded"
    Thanks,

If the lookup table is always going to remain the same (e.g. a character generator or something similar) you can place the values in a 2D array constant on your diagram, with the input value as one column, the equivalent as the other. When you need to perform the lookup you use an index array to return all the values in the "input column", search it using "search 1D array" and use the resulting index number to index the other column's data. If the values may change, then it would probably be best to load an array control with your equivalent values from a file.
