Poor font quality in dynamic text?

Does anyone notice that, for a dynamic text field, the font
quality changes with font size?!?!!
It will consistently become
suddenly bolder at certain font size!
It happens on various fonts!
Refering to the following screenshots:
http://www.terrencetee.com/general/font/1.JPG
http://www.terrencetee.com/general/font/3.JPG
It will only not happen if font is embedded...but due to file
size this is often not possible!
Is this a flash bug/limitation? THanks.
p/s:
I have checked it also shows the same problems on flash
player 10.
Any help will be appreciated.!

As you say that is because you didn't embed the font. If you
want good fonts then you need to do that. Problem solved.

  • Can I embed fonts of all Dynamic Text objects in a Flash file?

    Hi there!
I'm fairly new to Flash, so please bear with me.
I have created a Flash file which will act as our company's standard presentation / portfolio of all previous projects.  I've pretty much got it running the way I want, but I've just tried it on a few different computers and realised that the fonts aren't embedded.  I've used our corporate font so it needs to look right.  Having read the following documentation (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=Liv eDocs_Parts&file=00000893.html) I now understand how to embed fonts for one dynamic text object at a time.  However, I have a lot of different dynamic text objects in the file and I would dearly love to embed them all in one step!  The same embedding options can be applied to just about all objects, as they're all the same size and font.
I hope someone can help me.  If you are able to help please spell things out in simple steps!!  I am aware that I probably haven't yet grasped a number of the basics of Flash.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stuart

Static text doesn't need to be embeded. So I'm not sure what the problem you are having is. The page you linked to is for making an embedded font in your library that can then be exported for actionscript and used by code and style sheets. If you are following the instructions on the page you liked to you only need to do that once. Which shouldn't be too hard.
That is usually a different problem that having a bunch of different authortime created textfields that need to have characters embedded.
As far as I know your only hope to change a bunch of authortime/library items is using JSFL. So even if the thing I pointed to isn't exactly what you need you could keep googling a bit or use that as a template.
JSFL files are just text files so open it in note pad. Look for the line:
    if(it[i].itemType == "movie clip")
    and change it to this:
    if(it[i].itemType == "movie clip" || it[i].itemType=="button")
Now it does buttons. You give up too easy.

  • How do I embed multiple font outlines in dynamic text field

Can anyone tell me how I can embed multiple font outlines in
Flash MX so I can get smooth text in a dynamic
text frame? I want to use Regular, bold and italic in various
    parts of the text.
I was using the Character button in the properties manager
and tried to include all Characters. That does not work.
In the Properties manager I can choose Bold and/or Italic.
But it becomes a universal setting that overrides my HTML tags in
my external txt file that I am importing. I dont want all my text
    to be bold.
If I dont select them in the properties, however, Flash will
not embed the font that it needs.
Is there a different way to embed fonts other than under the
    Character Tab?
I tried to import fonts to the library, but can not select
    them.
Your help would really be appreciated.

  • Use 2 different fonts in a dynamic text field with tf.htmlText?

i've got a dynamic text field on the screen and all of my
fonts embedded. is it possible to use 2 different fonts when
dynamically setting the fields text with the htmlText property?
i've tried the <font> and the <textformat> tags and
neither work. I can set it once via a texformat object, but that's
    it.

you're answering all of my questions today aren't you? :)
right, i think this will be hard since my data is all comming

i've told the developers to just use images for the special

  • FONT issue in flash with Dynamic text

I dont even know how to start this thread... I am having a
serious problem with fonts on the flash movie I am Making/
Modifiying. The Font that is being used is "standard 07_53" and I
have been trying to understand how flash works with the fonts but
somethings are just making me scratch my head. First off :
    - I tried using both the anti-alias for readability and the
anti-alias for animation... the anti-alias for animation seems to
creat sharper text in most cases.. + I am embedding all charachters
when I do that (I know this makes my file way too big, but I am
trying to figure out where I am going wrong)
    - Q1 : I found out changing the position of where my text box
is on the document changes how clear the text is in the final
puplication. Now That I have not even the simlest idea why... does
    anyone know?
    - Q2 : The justify problem... whenever I use Justify my text
is all messed up... I even tried to change the font to Arial for
example and it still makes some of the text a bit blurry (well it
is blurry enough that I can notice it right away).. why does this
happen?? and is there any kind of solution to this problem?? I
    definatly want my text justified
    - Q3 : Do I and why, have to embed the font in each text box,
wouldnt one embeding be enough if using the same font in all the
    other text boxes?
    - Q4: Why do I see the text differently on different
computers.. and this realy is in relation to Q1.. on my monitor all
looks good on the published document, yet on other monitors and
computers it looks completely fussy untill I change the position of
    that text box.
-Q5: are there any sites that go in depth about Fonts and
dynamic text and how they end up rendering in flash?
you can see my problem with justified text at :

  • Text jumps after embedding font in dynamic text field!

    Hi
    this is driving me mad
Im using a standard font (Gotham rounded) within a dynamic text field. As soon as I embed the numerals within this text field the text lowers within the text field.  Double clicking the field then renders the text higher up!  It seems that the height it shows when I double click is the height it compiles at.
The other strange and annoying thing is that my colleague working on the same project is using the exact same font and same file but this doesnt happen to him and so the font redners out differently when he compiles!
Could anybody please help me sort this problem out as its reeeeally annoying
    many thanks!

  • Dynamic text boxes, font size issues

I have created a dynamic text box and an input text box.
I have produced code that replicates whatever is typed in the
input box to display in the dynamic box along with a date and time
stamp once a button is clicked.
This all works fine, except for the sizes of the fonts. for
both boxes, i selected font size 10 . The input box is fine,
however the dynamic box text is huge.
When i make the dynamic text font smaller, it fits in fine,
but the input text that is inserted into the dynamic text box comes
in too big. If i make the input text box font smaller it is
    unreadable when typing it in.
any soultion to how to make my font consistent. I am assumin
the problem is because both the text boxes are different sizes,
however i don't know how to resolve the issue.
    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Dynamic text and embedded font

    Hi,
I'm new to Flash and AS3, and I'm having a problem when I do
the following: I create an empty dynamic text field in the
authoring environment, click "Embed...", and choose the character
sets that I want (I get the same results when I embed the entire
font). The first time I change the contents of the text field with
    the command:
    text_field.text = "string 1";
I get good results--the text appears in the correct font.
However, subsequent attempts to update the .text property fail with
no error message, and the field becomes blank.
If I remove the embedded font by clicking "Don't embed" in
the embedding dialog, then every time I update the field's .text
property, it displays correctly using a local machine font.
I've also tried embedding the font in the swf by creating a
dynamic text field in the authoring environment, into which I place
no text, creating a second, functional text field in actionscript,
formatting it, using the "embed = true" property, and repeatedly
updating the .text property with the same bad results as described
    above.
I haven't tried using the [embed] metatag to dynamically load
    the font.
I've tested the swf in IE7 and Firefox on two machines with
the same results. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Okay, here's more information. The font that I've been trying
to embed is Bitstream Vera Sans Mono. If I embed a different font,
like Bitstream Vera Sans, I have no problem. It seems to me that it
must be that my Bitstream Vera Sans Mono is corrupted, my .fla and
.swf files are corrupted, or there's a bug in flash...

  • Embed Fonts in Dynamic Text Fields

Hey, I am relatively new around here although I've been a
member for years. I am just now starting to utilize my account. I
do have a question in regards to embedding fonts in Flash 8. I have
read up on this numerous places and haven't been able to find a
solution that works for me, whether this my user error or not is
    still TBD.
I am loading text from a XML document into Flash dynamic text
fields. I need to be using a handwritting font for these text
fields. After embedding the handwritten font they are not
displaying in my dynamic fields but are displaying in my static
text fields that am I also using on the site. I am controlling my
dynamic text fields w/ an external stylesheet. I believe I must do
something "additional" for these dynamic text fields but haven't
figured out what that is, any help anyone can offer is much
    appreciated! Thanks.

the question is a bit too general. There are many ways to
    approach it, from copies
of text fields with that font off stage, to embedded outlines
    and linkage in the library.
My guess is that somewhere on the way you did not fully
    complete the outline embed options.
Either done incorrectly or you miss some action.
Mind to post detail explanation how you embed the outlines?
Best if you post an example
    file for us to check.

  • Embedding fonts in dynamic text fields

I am having trouble embedding a font in my Flash file. I have the font in my library. I have the text field selected to that font with the * next to it.
    In my actions I have:
    vid_title_txt.embedFonts = true;
If I set it to false instead, it shows a different font. But if it is set to true, nothing shows. I am running out of ideas what to look at to solve this issue. What am I doing wrong here?
Thank you very much for any help with this!

    I am in AS2.
    I followed these steps.
    Open the Library panel (Ctrl+L).
Add a font to your library - click the options menu in the upper right corner of the panel and select New Font from the menu.
In the Font Symbol Properties dialog box select the font, size and style that you want and give the font combination a name. Click OK to close the dialog box.
Right-click the font symbol in the library and select Linkage from the contextual menu.
In the Linkage Properties dialog box, click the Export for ActionScript button to enable both the Identifier and AS 2.0 Class text input fields. Leave the default Identifier value and click OK to close the dialog box.
Select the text tool from the Tools panel and draw a dynamic text field on the Stage.
Give the text field an instance name of "my_txt". In the Font menu select the symbol name you gave the embedded font earlier. You should see a little asterisk (*) beside the name.
In the Property inspector set the font size and style to match those in the Font Symbol Properties dialog box earlier.
Open the Actions Panel and add the following code to Frame 1 of your Flash document:
    my_txt.embedFonts = true;
    my_txt._rotation = 15;
    my_txt._alpha = 10;

  • Bold and italic fonts in dynamic text fields.

I have a dynamic text field with the text "IMAGES". The font
is Arial, it has BOLD and ITALIC checked, and has basic Latin fonts
embedded. Now, I use Actionscript to change the text:
    textField.text = "IMAGES";
Suddenly the text disappears! Now, it seems to me that since
BOLD and ITALIC are checked on the text field, changing the .text
value should simply change the text itself, which should then be
rendered in bold and italic, and since I have bold+italic Latin
glyphs embedded, it should display properly. But what's clearly
happening is that when I set the text using Actionscript, it is
attempting to display the NORMAL font instead, and since it's not
embedded, it won't display. I know this because if I create another
proxy text field off the screen and embed the NORMAL Arial glyphs,
the original text field's text will display just fine - as
    normal-weight text.
But why is this? Do I have to use a TextFormat object to set
the text to Bold and Italic EVERY time I want to dynamicaly change
the text? This seems silly. I simply want my text field to be bold
and italic every time the text changes, and NO normal text!
    Any ideas?

I met the same problem using ActionScript3 and Flash Professional CS5. There are two problems with dynamic TextFields:
    - When you set style "Bold" for a text field in CS5, the "bold" property is not available in the TextField object in ActionScript, its defaultTextFormat.bold is alway false; I don't know if we can get this property anywhere else.
    - When you change the text of the dynamic TextField object, its style changes to normal no matter whether it was bold previously.
This is really a bug in TextField, Adobe should fix this to implement TextField in an expected way.

  • External Embedded Fonts, Dynamic Text Fields, Latest?

    Hi all,
I'm stuck in Flash8 land. Mostly because I use mProjector and
MDM Zinc to extend flash projectors and neither support AS3
    correctly to date. That said..
Is a Flash8 SWF capable of using fonts embedded in "other"
SWFs? I realize this is an ongoing difficulty and a well known area
of confusion and well, I'm confused. All the attempts I've made so
far in linking have succeeded or failed in various ways, but never
    fully work.
What I'd love to do is use dynamic text fields populated by
data from a database (or XML file), with CSS styling, using fonts
that are embedded in a 'master font SWF'. (and I'd like ice cream
    with that too!)
I import fonts into, say, 'shared.fla'. I set them all up for
exporting via linkage (to shared.swf). I open up my other FLAs
(say, main.fla) and I drag the fonts from the shared.fla library
into main.fla's library. In looking at the linkage, I see it
properly set it to Import for Runtime Sharing (shared.swf). I can
see the font available in the main.fla font list and can select it
and use it just fine. I have to set the dynamic text field to embed
fonts to actually see them (and also
    myTextField.setStyle("embedFonts",true)).
Now all that works well and fine, but the kicker is when I
want CSS to style my text. If I specify a embedded font linkage
identifyer in CSS, the text disappears. i.e. I load 'style.css' and
    I have h1 { font-family: someEmbeddedFont; }, the <h1> text
    will now disappear.
Any clues in how I can specify a font to use in CSS that's
embedded so it'll work, WITHOUT This font needed to be embedded in
the actual library (as in, not a linked asset)? Because it works
fine if I embed the font into every single SWF. But when I try to
use it as a shared asset, this doesn't work.
Any ideas on how someone can achieve this?
This is so I can changed my shared.swf and supply all new
fonts with the same linkage identifiers and change the font in a
whole project without re-exporting any other SWFs.
    Thanks for any info!

I guess it's amazing but I honestly, wholly cannot get this
    to work.
I made a new AS2 Flash 8 FLA (Forte.fla) with only the Forte
font with a size of 22 in the library. The name of the library
element was Forte. The linkage was set to "Export for Actionscript"
    and "Export in first frame".
    I made another FLA (main.fla) Flash8 AS2. In actionscript I
created an empty movie clip named "Asset_Forte" at the next highest
depth and Asset_Forte.loadMovie("Forte.swf"). I also made a dynamic
text field on the stage of this main.fla document and set it to
Arial 22pt (no bold or italics, etc). I did not embed anything into
    it.
    I made a TextTormat object (my_fmt) and set my_fmt.font =
"Forte";. I put some text in the dynamic text field to start so I
    just applied the formatting (status_text.setTextFormat(my_fmt);).
This did not work. I started adjusting random things like
naming the font in the Forte.swf library to Forte22 and tried
    my_fmt.font = "Forte22";. That didn't work.
I adjusted the linkage to "Export for runtime sharing" and
specified Forte.swf as the SWF to share from. This did not work.
I then dragged the font from the Forte.fla's library (while
"Export for runtime sharing" was enabled) into the library of
main.fla. I checked the link and it was proper, "Import for runtime
sharing, Forte.swf". I used both linkage attempts again (Forte and
Forte22) with my_fmt.font and neither worked.
Would it be possible at all to get a couple FLAs from you
that examplifies how you do this particular trick? I can't seem to
get the settings right. I would be indebted to you!
