Populate a listbox using javascript

I want to populate a list box using Javascript .
I have a  following script:
// Place all prepopulation data into a single data structure
var TrainData = { 12002:{ StationFrom: "New Delhi", StationTo: "Bhopal", Stn: ["MTJ", "AGC"]
                 12004:{ StationFrom: "NDLS", StationTo: "Lucknow" }};
function SetFieldValues(cTrainName)
  this.getField("TrainFromName").value = TrainData[cTrainName].StationFrom;
this.getField("TrainToName").value = TrainData[cTrainName].StationTo;
this.getField("TrainStn").value = TrainData[cTrainName].Stn;
I'm able to get data (MTJ, AGC) using this.getField("TrainStn").value = TrainData[cTrainName].Stn; to a text box
whereas i require this data into a list box.
Let me know how to do this?

You use the setItems method of the combo box or list.
There are some good examples of how to do this at this thread:

  • Get location/coordinates for a field using JavaScript in Acrobat Professional

    Good day,
    I am looking for a way to get the coordinates of a text field.
    I would like to create a listbox and set the location of the listbox top left to the text fields bottom left coordinates, I have had a look at the scripting guides ... could not turn up anything.
    I know how to create and populate this listbox using the JavaScript code, only problem is, to get the coordinates of the text box.

    Try this:
    1. Move or change the dimensions of the text boxes on the extracted page in the configuration that you want.
    2. When you are satisfied with the new configuration, modify the following JavaScript to use the names of the text boxes that you want to include on the page.
    //find_rect //find coordinates of text boxes whose names are included in the var rct,ary = ["fld_1","fld_2","fld_3","fld_4"]; //...etc.
    for (j = 0; j<ary.length; j++){
    console.println(ary[j]);
    rct = this.getField(ary[j]).rect;
    for (i= 0; i< rct.length; i++) console.println(rct[i]);
    3. Add the modified code to the document level of form. (as a doc level javascript but with no function name or brackets included.
    4. When you run the code, the coordinates for the fields that you have included in the array will be printed in the console window:
    Example:
    fld_1
    21
    777
    296
    717
    fld_2
    30
    769
    65
    729

  • How do I use Javascript to populate a text field based on a selection from a drop down box?

    Greetings,
    I have virtually no experience with JavaScript and I am trying to figure out how to add some basic automation features to an Adobe form.  I have a drop down box called "Hospital_Name" that will contain approximately 7 possible selections.  When the user makes a selection, I would like to have the text field (called "Hospital_Address") below the drop down box populate with the corresponding address for the selection.  I have the "Hospital_Address" text field configured for multiple lines and would like the address to have a line break between the street address and the city/state/zip.
    For example, if the user selected "Hospital 1", the text field would display:
    123 Main St
    Anytown, CA 12345
    Any help or examples you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    You have the element names within the object within brackets.
    Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.
    // Place all pre-population data into a single data structure
    var Location = {
    "--Hospital--":{ line1: " ", line2: " " },
    "Bellevue Medical Center":{ line1: "2500 BMC Drive", line2: "Bellevue, NE 68123" },
    "CHI Bergan Mercy":{ line1: "7500 Mercy Road", line2: "Omaha, NE 68124" },
    "CHI Immanuel":{ line1: "6901 N. 72nd Street", line2: "Omaha, NE 68122" },
    "CHI Lakeside":{ line1: "16901 Lakeside Hills Court", line2: "Omaha, NE 68130" },
    "CHI Midlands":{ line1: "11111 S. 84th Street", line2: "Papillion, NE 68046" },

    "Nebraska Medical Center":{ line1: "4400 Emile Drive", line2: "Omaha, NE 68105" }
    // some debugging code to see location names;
    console.show();console.clear():
    for(I in Location) {
    console.println(I);
    // end debugging code;
    function SetFieldValues(Hospital_Name) {
        this.getField("AddLine1").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line1;
        this.getField("AddLine2").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line2;
    This is not a beginners task but requires a fair amount of knowledge about the structure of objects, defining strings, and structure of arrays.
    Are you sure you have all the field names correctly spelled and capitalized?
    Do you get any error in the JavaScript console?
    Just trying the line that defines the "Location", I get the following error:
    SyntaxError: invalid property id
    1:Console:Exec
    undefined
    All the form field in a PDF are processed by using JavaScript and any error in any script will stop JavaScript processing.
    It might help to have a link to the problem form.
    Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.

  • Using javascript to populate one menu based on the choice in another menu

    I have several menus which are dynamically populated (with PHP and MYSQL). The information is category based. How do I dynamically populate the second menu based on the choice the user makes in the first menu (without having to submit and refresh the page-- i.e. I need to use javascript instead of the server-side PHP).
    Example:
    Main Categories: 1) Numbers     2) Letters
    Sub Categories:        1                      a
                                   2                      b
                                   3                      c
                                  etc.                  etc.
    the first menu contains the two main categories. I want the second list to be populated with only the sub categories of the main category the user chooses in the first menu (i.e. 1,2,3 etc. if he chose the main category 'Numbers' and a,b,c, etc. if he chose the main category 'Letters')
    Is there an easy way to do this in Dreamweaver?
    Thanks,
    YWSW

    How many items do you have in each dropdown? If it's a small number, you can download all of the options for the second dropdown and use client side javascript to filter based on the choice of the first dropdown. If the number is large, you'll need to use AJAX to dynamically pull the related items from the database.
    Search the web for "dependent dropdown" or "cascading dropdown" for some technical details.

  • How do I set (or auto populate) the value of a modal dialog field using javascript?

    I have a Modal Dialog on my SharePoint 2010 page the following fields: Your Name, Subject, Priority, Message.
    It links to a list I have on the site. The second field, Subject, I want to auto populate it when the window opens, so the user can leave it as is or modify the subject. I want to set the field value using javascript.
    I've tried setting the field with this code:
    document.getElementById('Subject').value = "Test";
    and also, this:
    setFieldValue('Subject','My custom value');
    Neither work.
    How do I set the value of the subject field when the user first opens the dialog using javascript?
    Please help.

    I am sure, you are looking at default field value of a list column(single line) in a modal window, if so please try below code
    <script src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-2.1.0.min.js" type="text/javascript" abp="397"></script><script type="text/javascript" abp="398">
    $(document).ready(function(){
    $('input[name*="Subject"]').val("Test");

  • Using Javascript in a report region

    I have a text box that I need to populate with an amount for billing. There is also a field that shows the amount due. If the amount due is equal to the amount being paid, I want my user to click on the amount due, and it automatically populates the amount being paid. I am using the javascript:setValue('destination','origination'); command, but the problem is that I am unable to choose the text field in the javascript. I have tried using #value# aliasing, and htmldb_application.g_f0x and just f0x... nothing seems to properly alias the text box within the tabular form. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,
    I know a way to do this, but it is not an easy implementation and it is quite hard to explain. Carl is an Oracle guy so he may know of a better solution, but here is what I came up with on my own:
    First let's be familiar with the htmldb_item syntax (found in the html db documentation):
    HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXT(
    p_idx IN NUMBER, -- unique id
    p_value IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL, -- value of item
    p_size IN NUMBER DEFAULT NULL, -- HTML tag attributes
    p_maxlength IN NUMBER DEFAULT NULL, -- max length
    p_attributes IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL, -- HTML elements including where you incorporate the javascript for this item
    p_item_id IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL, -- id you can specify
    p_item_label IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL) -- labe you can specify
    I would create your report region using the following sql statement:
    select order_number "Order Number",
    name "Name",
    amount_due "Amount Due",
    lpad((ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY order_number)),4,0) "Row Num",
    htmldb_item.text(7,amount_paid,null,null,null,'f07_'||lpad((ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY order_number)),4,0) "Amount Paid"
    from tbl_orders
    where....
    order by order_number
    --i had to use an order by to get the ROW_NUMBER() to work
    This will create on every row an item that is specific to the row number. For example:
    Row # Amount Paid text box item ID
    1 f07_0001
    2 f07_0002
    500 f07_0500
    etc.
    This will allow you to reference items based on what row they are when using javascript.
    Next you need to create a link out of the the amount_due column. Go to the Report Region, then the Report Attributes tab. Click on the edit link for the amount_due column. Go to the Column Link section.
    Make link_text = to the value of amount_due column(#amount_due# probably)
    Make the Target = URL
    Make URL = javascript: setValues('#AMOUNT_DUE#','#ROW_NUM#');
    This will send the value of amount due and the row number.
    Here's the javascript you would put in your HTML Header on you Page Attributes:
    <script language="JavaScript1.1" type="text/javascript">
    function setValues(due, rownum){
    document.getElementById('f07_'+rownum).value = due;
    </script>
    Give that a shot. I just created a page and got that to work.

    I am using JDeveloper and I created a screen in JSP which uses a bean for database connectivity and retriving info onto the page.

When someone selects say the State of Pennsylvania. then we have an On change event that runs a Javascript to go get all the cities in Pennsylvania.
    Proble we are having is that inorder for the Javascript to work , we currently have to send all the valid data.
    Do you know of any way to dynamically query the the Oracle database in Javascript

  • Can't submit JSF using Javascript

    I apologize if this is an obvious newbie question.
    I have a simple JSF page with a component users can click on to select a number. Using Javascript, I populate a textbox with the number they select, then attempt to submit the form, also using Javascript. But this doesn't work.
    The form submits and returns as though the user had submitted without a value in the textbox, and then their number appears in the textbox (it should be empty at this point).
    The form works fine if I use Javascript only to set the value in the textbox and require the user to manually press the Submit button.
    TIA for any help!

    Sorry, this is in the wrong place (and I can't find a way to delete it). Please ignore.

  • Change Data Using Javascript

    Hi Guys,
        I'm wondering can I change a data in the data view without binding it to a UI using javascript?
        Thanks,

    Hi,
    I mean in the hierarchy node select the field to which you want to populate the value. And in the script editor write this.rawValue = <your value>.

  • How to use javascript and sql

    Hi,
    I am new to HTML DB. I am trying to populate some textfields once a a drop down menu is selected .
    But my information to populate need to be obtained by querying my dabase how do i do that? using javascript
    or is there another way of doing that without using javascript?

    I understand you don't want to actually "submit" the page. Undsertand that with the web, you either:
    1. bring all of the values from the server to the page with you
    2. go back to the server to get values based on the value of the lov, or
    3. do partial-page refresh and get the new values from the server in the background with some VERY challenging javascript.
    2 is the solution I am suggesting. Do not insert the values yet, just let HTML DB save them in your session state. As soon as you change the LOV the page will be submitted and return with the correct values in the related items. If you want to get fancy, you can choose not to show the related items until the user has selected a value from the LOV.
    To see an example of this (kind of), go to the SQL Workshop and click on the "Tables" Icon. Now you should see a list of the tables in your schema. Change the "Type" LOV from table to index. Notice the page refreshed and the report changed? I'm suggesting the same concept, but just changing the value of some items, not a report.

  • Tooltip in ListBox using Richfaces

    Hi EveryBody,
    I would like to implement the tooltip in a listBox using onMouseOver event..I have tried to implement using richfaces,but I am getting this error --> (no tag "tooltip" defined in tag library imported with prefix "rich").I dont know how to resolve this error..please give me a valuable inputs or suggestions to implement tooltip in other ways(if any) on this regarding..
    Thanks in Advance

    The error message tells that there is no <rich:tooltip> component. I am not sure about that, you're posting in a Sun JSF forum, not a RichFaces forum, but it look obvious that this component simply doesn't exist. But as you're trying to modify the onmouseover, why not just write Javascript accordingly?
    By the way, normally you make use of the standard HTML title attribute in the <option> element, but this is unfortunately not available in the f:selectItem tag and the SelectItem model.

    JS can not interact with open dialogs in any way, unless it's a dialog
    created in JS using the Dialog object.
