Populate hierarchical tree with Query "Select * from EMP"

Dear(S)
I want to populate a Hierarchical Tree to display results
in a well alligned form as results usually display in SQL Plus environment.
I try much using LPAD() and RPAD() function but fail to get required results.
I want to display more than one field values by concatenating them.
e.g.
SMITH CLERK 800
ALLEN SALESMAN 1600
WARD SALESMAN 1250
JONES MANAGER 2975
Please someone guide me how i can allign more than one field values in a Hierarchical tree.
Thanks and regards,
Tanveer Ahmad.

Dear Thiru,
I have successfully populate the tree
but i want to display these fields at a specific distance.
How i can do it? (I have try it with LPAD() and RPAD() but fail.)
Thanks
Tanveer

Hi, everything in the "Quick Reference" section should be commented out with ;
You should change those settings further down in the php.ini file.
Example:
error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED & ~E_STRICT
display_errors = Off

• Reason behind this query ,SELECT * FROM table WHERE 1 0

HEllo,
I would like to know the reason behind using this query ,
SELECT * FROM
WHERE 1 < 0
before executing the actual SQL query.
Is there any special reason or the JDBC receiver side is configured like that.
Is there any option to overcome this process like, can we remove this option or stop using this.
Why the JDBC adapter basically sending this query on the DB?
Thanks,
Soorya,

Hi,
if you run this query, you wont be able to see any records of the table.
SELECT * FROM
WHERE 1 < 0
if you run this query you will see all records
SELECT * FROM
WHERE 0 < 1
same with SELECT * FROM
WHERE 1=1
So you can check this out that whats happening in your code before executing actual query. just try to co-relate.

• Select * from emp where ename=(procedure1(procedure2(procedure3)));

I have a big problem
I have to check the data for quality data
Lets say i have to check data in emp table
First i have to check whether the empno is of type number
IF empno=number then
if ename starts with a particualar format then
---printouts and this procedure goes on for about 10 coulumns
I have designed a hard coded procedure where I input table name and column name and the procedure does the checks and give out result
I have planned to call that procedures here for each checks
its like i make the procedure to execute and the procedure returns rowid of the correct data
now i have to apply the second procedure where input is all the rowids of previous procedure and it goes on
I even dont know whether procedure is correct or function is correct
Its like select * from emp where ename=(procedure1(procedure2(procedure3)));
each procedure's output is Rowids only which satisfy a particular format of data
Please explain me in details
Please please help me.

Nested calls are not the best of ideas. Ignoring that for a moment, there are a couple of ways to address this requirement in Oracle. One of these, and likely one of the more scalable ways, is to use Pipeline Table Functions.
The following code demonstrates the basics of this approach, using pipelined table functions to perform validation checks on data.

• Can u find (number of rows) + (SELECT * FROM emp) in 1 query?

We have a requirement like this: We need to pass a SQL statement as a SYS_REFCURSOR OUT variable from a SP. Problem is, if the SQL returned 0 rows we have to send 1 row with all NULLS to the SYS_REFCURSOR.
Is there any way to find out the number of rows returned from a SQL without having to put a SELECT COUNT(*) again using the "same" SQL?

Peter:
That only works if the cursor actually returns rows. Consider:
SQL> create table t as
2 select rownum id, to_char(to_date(rownum, 'J'), 'Jsp') descr
3  from user_objects
4  where rownum <= 5;
Table created.
SQL> insert into t select * from t;
5 rows created.
SQL> commit;
Commit complete.
SQL> create function f (p_id in number) return sys_refcursor as
2     l_cur sys_refcursor;
3  begin
4     open l_cur for
5 select id, descr, count(*) over() cnt
6        from t
7        where id = p_id;
8     return l_cur;
9  end;
10  /
Function created.
SQL> var cur refcursor
SQL> exec :cur := f(1);
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> print cur
ID DESCR             CNT
1 One                 2
1 One                 2
SQL> exec :cur := f(42);
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> print cur
no rows selectedSince the OP's requirement (or ""solution" coming from someone who misunderstood the concept of cursors") is that "if the SQL returned 0 rows we have to send 1 row with all NULLS to the SYS_REFCURSOR" the analytic count doesn't help.
@OP
The only reliable (for certain definitions of reliable) way would be to consume the first row of the cursor to see if it did in fact return any rows.
However, if the cursor was initally empty, we then need to generate a new cursor with all NULLS to satisfy the request. Not a big deal, as the new cursor would reflect the state of the database at the time of the initial query, even if a qualifying row was inserted and committed between the first query and the second, but it doesn't work the other way around.
If I consume the first row and find a record, then I need to re-do the query to get all of the rows. but what happens if another process changes/deletes the qualifying row in between and commits? The second query will have no rows and you will return an empty cursor to the caller.
Also, counting the rows (which the analytic count will need to do) could have a significant impact on performance since all the qualifying rows need to be read before the first row can be returned.

• How can i populate the Jcombobox with the data from my jpa list? Desperate

Implement toString() on your entity to return whatever you want to use as a label for the combobox.
Your need for quick solutions is very destructive to your learning process. In stead take the time and read around a little. Swing happens to have an excellent tutorial with many example programs readily available for you to pick through:

• Hierarchical tree with iconic nodes

hi i'm using database - 10g, developer suite - 10g; created a hierarchical tree and the icons are displaying along side the nodes when they are being selected or activated.
problem - i've stored the icons in g:\ICONS (all gif icons). but when i run the form it is picking up the icons from the following location - C:\Documents and Settings\development\Oracle Jar Cache\frmall_jinit.jar-63ace618-1160d49b\oracle\forms\icons. I've a button in the same form and the icon showing on it is from the location G:\ICONS(as desired); but in case of tree it's from the location which is not desirable.
any help.

Hello,
You need to change the imagebase parameter to be documentbase instead of codebase.
When imagebase is set to codebase forms looks for Images in the jar files and then in the absolute path, otherwise it check direct path.
For details in deploying the Images please check:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14099_19/web.1012/b14032/configure009.htm
Clear the Java cache and browser cache after the above changes!

• Hierarchical Tree Data Query/Record Group Question

I need help with Hierarchical Forms right now. I'm currently trying to implement a hierarchical tree to display the different items in different categories. I have been reading up on it for the past few days, and i do not understand a few things.
What is the difference between a data query and record group? they seem the same to me.
How does the XX = prior XXX work? i understand that this is what connects the parent to the child.
How do you determine what depth the node is? its done in the record group/data query, but how do i decide what level it is dynamically?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Thanks! I am unable to create a table specifically for the tree because i am using tables that have been ported live and are in use. My question about levels is how do I know which depth the node is. For example, i have a category called Information Technology and a category item called Business Informatics. I want to know how to decide that the Category(information technology) is on level 1 and the Item(business informatics) is on level 2.
Information Technology
|_
Business Informatics
And i do know how the Connect By XX = prior XXX works in the data query/record group.
Thanks for your help!

<node label="Twelve" />
<node label="Thirteen" />
<node label="Fourteen" />
<node label="Fifteen" />
<node label="Sixteen" />
<node label="Seventeen" />
<node label="Eightteen" />
<node label="Nineteen" />
</root>
and another one is two.xml

<root>
<node label="twety one" />
<node label="twety two" />
<node label="twety three" />
<node label="twety four" />
<node label="twety five" />
<node label="twety six" />
<node label="twety seven" />
<node label="twety eight" />
<node label="twety nine" />
</root>
Now I have added my tree just below the list and I have saved counting from 10 to 19 in `one.xml`, 20 to 29 in `two.xml` and so on in different XML file. I have no clue how to connect the XML containing counting from 10 to 19 as the single node in tree at the selection of label one in list and make its visiblity true.this all are dependent on combobox as on selection of item in combobox will lead to change the dataprovider of tree at runtime. i.e on selecting value one in combobox one.xml should be the data provider for tree control. Can anyone help me on this

This is my XML data in a file named `nodesAndStuff.xml`.

<root>
<node label="One" />
<node label="Two" />
<node label="Three" />
<node label="Four" />
<node label="Five" />
<node label="Six" />
<node label="Seven" />
<node label="Eight" />
<node label="Nine" />
</root>
The component using this data source is an `XMLListCollection` which is bound to a spark `ComboBox` and the code for that is:
<s:Application name="Spark_List_dataProvider_XML_test"
xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo"
initialize="init();">
<fx:Script>

private function init():void {
xmlListColl.source = nodes.children();
private function closeHandler(event:Event):void {
myLabel.text = "You selected: " +  ComboBox(event.target).selectedItem.label;                 myData.text = "Data: " +  ComboBox(event.target).selectedItem.data;

</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>
<fx:XML id="nodes" source="nodesAndStuff.xml" />
</fx:Declarations>
<mx:ComboBox id="cmbList" dataProvider="{ListXLC}" labelField="STOREVALUE"  close="closeHandler(event);"/>
<s:dataProvider>
<s:XMLListCollection id="xmlListColl" />
</s:dataProvider>
</mx:ComboBox>
<mx:VBox width="250" color="0x000000">
<mx:Text  width="200" color="blue" text="Select a type of credit card."/>
<mx:Label id="myLabel" text="You selected:"/>

</mx:VBox>
<mx:Tree id="myTree" width="50%" height="100%" visible="false" />
</s:Application>
now another of my xml for example this is one.xml

<root>
<node label="Eleven" />
<node label="Twelve" />
<node label="Thirteen" />

<node label="Fifteen" />
<node label="Sixteen" />
<node label="Seventeen" />
<node label="Eightteen" />
<node label="Nineteen" />
</root>
and another one is two.xml

<root>
<node label="twety one" />
<node label="twety two" />
<node label="twety three" />
<node label="twety four" />
<node label="twety five" />
<node label="twety six" />
<node label="twety seven" />
<node label="twety eight" />
<node label="twety nine" />
</root>

• Producing nested xml with querying attributes from a nested table

How can one produce nested xml querying columns from a nested table? Looking at the object documentation, I can readily unnest the tables. Using your examples in the book, unnesting is select po.pono, ..., l.* from purchaseorder_objtab po, table (po.lineitemlist_ntab) l where l.quantity = 2;
what if I don't want to unnest and don't want a cursor. I would like to produce nested xml.

Gail,
Although you can use XSU (XML-SQL Util) in 8.1.7, I would recommend that you upgrade to 9i for much better support (both in functionality and performance) of XML in the database. For example, in Oracle9i there are:
- a new datatype - XMLType for storing and retrieving XML documents
- DBMS_XMLGEN package and SYS_XMLGEN, SYS_XMLAGG functions for generating XML document from complex SQL queries
- A pipelined table function to break down large XML documents into rows.
You can check out some examples using SYS_XMLGEN and DBMS_XMLGEN for your specific needs at http://download-west.oracle.com/otndoc/oracle9i/901_doc/appdev.901/a88894/adx05xml.htm#1017141

• Populate Text Box with mulitple selctions from list box

Hello,
I am new to LiveCycle and searched the forums for an answer as to how to populate multiple selections from a list box to a text field.
I added to the calculate field of the text field the following: TextField14.rawValue = ListBox1.rawValue
Is there a way I can modify this so that the items from the listbox populate the text field so that the values show up side by side (i.e. California, Connecticut, New York) instead of top-down?
Joe

I would use the following JS code in the 'exit' event of the List box
var
ListValue = this.rawValue;ListValue
= replaceAll(ListValue, "\n", " ,");TextField1.rawValue
= ListValue;
function replaceAll(oldStr,findStr, repStr) {
var srchNdx = 0; // srchNdx will keep track of where in the whole line
// of oldStr are we searching.
var newStr = ""; // newStr will hold the altered version of oldStr.
while (oldStr.indexOf(findStr,srchNdx) != -1)
// As long as there are strings to replace, this loop
// will run.
newStr
+= oldStr.substring(srchNdx,oldStr.indexOf(findStr,srchNdx));
// Put it all the unaltered text from one findStr to
// the next findStr into newStr.
newStr
+= repStr;
// Instead of putting the old string, put in the
// new string instead.
srchNdx
= (oldStr.indexOf(findStr,srchNdx) + findStr.length);
// Now jump to the next chunk of text till the next findStr.
newStr
+= oldStr.substring(srchNdx,oldStr.length);
// Put whatever's left into newStr.
return newStr;
Good Luck,
