Portable Flash Drive Recommendations - MacBook Pro 15"

Hello,
I have a 15" MacBook Pro and I am looking to purchase a flash drive with the following features:
-Mac compatible
-properly fits in a MBP USB port (if dock available, doesn't matter then)
-32 GB storage capacity
-keychain option
-slides open/closed
-includes dock
-available for a reasonable price
Thanks and I appreciate your input! I have searched and searched and hope you can find me the perfect one, especially with that large capacity! Feel free to post even if not 32 GB, but other features apply.

I have the perfect ones for you! These are made by OCZ metal body and very slim!
Low prices from new egg heres the links for 8,16 and 32gb:

32gb 125.99 before rebate

I have the smaller 2gb at the moment but will be upgrading to a larger one soon. You won't be disappointed with this key. They both have caps but mine came with a lanyard and also a bonus usb extension cable. I can not say for sure if the newer ones do or not.

  • Flash Drive on Macbook Pro Retina

    Hello,
I have a sandisk cruzer fit flash drive that I purchased today for extra storage on my macbook pro retina. Will leaving it plugged in the usb port for extra storage slow down my mac? I purchased it because it is so small that I figured it would not get jammed or stuck on anything if I just left it plugged in.

No it wont affect a thing.
However I would only use it like that on a desk on a Mac that isnt ever moved.
Why?  Gets bumped or smacked (very easy) you can damage your USB port, and thats NO EASY fix.
A better option would be a 1TB HD, ....good storage is cheap,  $65 for a nice Toshiba 1TB external USB HD

  • Best portable hard drive for MacBook Pro late 2011

Looking for a portable hard drive, 1TB USB 2.0 I think.  I googled the model details below and it said it had USB 2.0
    EtreCheck version: 1.9.12 (48)
    Report generated 2 August 2014 10:06:17 BST
    Hardware Information:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) (Verified)
      MacBook Pro - model: MacBookPro8,1
      1 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU: 2 cores
      4 GB RAM
Have never backed up before and not too bothered about it being super fast.  Would like to get one for under £50.  Tried looking myself but getting very confused, USB, FireWire ????
    Can anyone help?

USB 3 hard drives will work with your MacBook but only at USB 2 speeds. FireWire 800 is your best option for fast data transfers at this point, unless you want to get a new computer.
    Best of luck.

What's the difference between MacBook Pro with flash storage and MacBook Pro with solid state drive?

A SSD is packaged like any other notebook drive. Flash storage uses a different design and layout that connects directly to the motherboard using PCIe. It is faster than a normal SSD.

  • How can I open my portable flash drive in my Macbook Air?

It doesn't pop-out and I can't figure out how to open it!

I have a personal portable flash drive of about 150GB and I would like to work on the the document stored in it. When I connect it to my Macbook Air via the USB port nothing happens. It doesnt pop open on the computer screen and I don't know where to navigate to set it open and work on my documents.
In my last laptop as soon as I connect the flash drive it pops-up and ask me "what I would like to do" and from there I carry on. But in this new Macbook Air I acquire about a month ago, everything seems up-side down and difficult to navigate.
My question is: how can I open my this portabble flash drive when connected to the Macbook Air? Hope that explains well. Cheers.

  • Flash Player on MacBook Pro

Hello: I tried to install Flash 8 Player on MacBook Pro and it did not work. Then, I realized because maybe it's not Universal, it won't work. Does anyone know if you can install the Flash Player on MacBook Pro? Thanks in advance for your advice.

The special version of the Flash plug-in supplied with Intel-Macs can be restored by extracting a fresh copy from the installer disc. You will need to download Pacifist (www.versiontracker.com) and use it to extract a fresh copy of the Flash plug-in from the file archive on the installer DVD.
Please read the following about other possible incompatibilities:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
Be sure to verify with developer or from information on download sites whether software is a universal binary. Many of the incompatible products currently in use will likely be updated in time.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers. These versions are not universal binaries and will not work on Intel-Macs. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the only current choice is USB Overdrive. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (does not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

  • How to replace hard drive in macbook pro?

How to replace hard drive in macbook pro?

    Hi S,
If you have the newer unibody style, it's very easy. If it's one of the earlier models, it's considerably more difficult. Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info > Hardware and find your Model Identifier. Then go to ifixit.com, or powerbookmedic.com or macsales.com or youtube or others and there are illustrated, detailed directions. Good luck to you and post back if you have further questions.

What is the best external hard drive with MacBook Pro?

I agree with Allan, and that link is also called OWC, their hard drives are great.  Have three of their Mercury Pro Elite 2 TB quad interface drives.  They will connect eSATA, Firewire 800 & 400, USB2, so broad reange of options.  Drives seem to come Mac HFS formatted, but I always reformat and partition the drives.  Service and quarantees are top notch.
They offer a wide range of drives/drive systems so like Allan said, spend some time seeing what the have.

If you are running Mountain Lion, you may not see the thumb drive on your desktop or sidebar unless you activate that option in the Finder Preferences (General and Sidebar, respectively).

I see a mention of Google Chrome and VirtualBox in your log. Stop using those and see if the situation changes? From what we know so far, the problem is a software one (Apple's fault), not a hardware problem. Mountain Lion is supposed to fix the issue, which should be out in about a week. So you could wait til then, upgrade to ML, and see if its still crashing or not.

  • I erased my drive on Macbook pro, trying to reinstale os x Maverick but it is not available on App store, what should I do?

I erased my drive on Macbook pro, trying to re-install os x Maverick but it is not available on App store, what should I do?

Install Yosemite instead of Mavericks. Or you can do the following if your computer supports Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
