Portal compared to WebDB and JDeveloper

Hello,
I am starting to build a Web site for data browsing, downloading and manipulation. The data is housed in an Oracle 8i 8.1.6 database on a Sun Solaris 8 system. My system has Oracle 9iAS installed on it.
About a year ago I took a class in WebDB, and now I'm told that Portal has replaced Web DB? Could you explain to me the difference between the two? Is Portal just an upgrade of Web DB?
Also I have recently been introduced to JDeveloper. I have been impressed with the ability to directly access the java code in the JDeveloper program. Could you talk to me about what advantages Portal has over JDeveloper?
Essentially I'm trying to research which application is the best route for my web-building purpose. Currently I'm sort of confused about the relationship between these different products.

JDeveloper is a tool which can help you to build all kinds of java relateted stuff like JSPs, EJBs, Servlets etc.
Portal on the other site extensively uses PL/SQL code.
But why choose. Built all your bussiness logic with either servlets or EJBs and access the bussiness logic via JSPs. Use Portal to build access schemes around your JSPs.

I am integrating OBIEE 11.1.1.7 with J Developer. I have installed OBIEE 11.1.1.7 and JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0 on my machine. Can anyone tell me the further steps to move on.
As per my research, I have to download an extension called Web Center portal in JDeveloper. But it is not getting displayed in the extension list. Is it compatible with this version ? If not, then which versions is it compatible with.
Apart from this I also came across the extensions called BI ADF task extension Bundle, BI ADF Bundle. Can anyone provide me appropriate links that demonstrate use of these extensions (Any tutorials or so).
I am just trying to explore the possibilities of OBIEE with J Developer.

I believe there is no specific document/guide for each module. To create and modify web-based pages in Oracle Apps you need to use JDeveloper.

Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels. Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer. I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation. I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC. I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots. Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes. Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond. In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images. After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data. (I have a screen shot to show this.) CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. Although the Candidate and Select headings were transposed, the image exposure data was not, but the data for the image on the right was almost entirely to the left of the line dividing the screen in two.
Gurus in The Lightroom Forum have examined Task Manager data showing Processes running and Performance indicators and they see nothing wrong. I could also send screen shots of this data.

Soa 11g and jdeveloper 11g user defined extension function

I have developed a set of extension functions,
in design time for the previous version, I can put the deployment file (jar file) that contains the extension functions in the %JDEV_HOME%\jdev\lib\ext directory and jdeveloper recognizes the set of extension functions if previously i have defined an xml descriptor with every one of the functions i need to include in the panel.
Now, with the jdeveloper 11g i have tried the same, and jdev recognizes the functions, but when I am going to test one transformation that includes the extension function, the parser is not founding the jar file; the error (in spanish) is:

+ at design time, where can I put the jars with extension functions to make one transformation function used in a mediator component can works fine?
+ at runtime, where can I put those libraries? (in the previous version, we can put this libraries in the %APP_SERVER%\j2ee\home\applib, or create one shared library and reference it in the oracle.bpel.common shared library declaration of the server.xml configuration file).

SAP Portal Network - WebDynpro iView and SAP Application iView sharing

Hello All,
I've read about the restrictions in SAP Portal supporting the WSRP standard for application sharing. Mainly WebDynpro iViews and SAP application iViews sharing is not supported. That is in the case of a SAP Portal as producer and Non-SAPPortal as consumer.
I'm interested in a WebDynpro iViews and SAP application iViews sharing in a only-SAP Portals Network, where SAP Portals act as producer and consumer.
I've heard about the Remote Role Assignment and Remote Content Copy that are used in such case. I would like to ask if anyone knows if these can help overcome the restriction in sharing WebDynpro iViews and SAP application iViews that is present with WSRP? And if the advantage of WSPR, that is the application execution and rendering on the producer side, and as follows decreasing of bandwidth usage, is remaining in the case of the Remote Role Assignment and Remote Content Copy.

External portal capturing internal portal URL in Log and trace file

Hi,
We are facing one issue in portal like we have two portals for internal (Intranet) and external (Internet) users.
Once users logged in the application and try to get the information about mylink from the external portal link (internet) they should not get any information about the internal portal.
But in log and trace file we can see the external portal link capturing the internal portal URL.
We need to find, from where system capturing the internal portal URL.

The tkproffed trace file is in seconds.
"set timing" is in hh:mi:ss.uu format. So 00:00:01.01 is 1.01 seconds.
You have to remember that most of these measurements are rounded. While your trace file says it contains one second of trace data, you know it's more.
One excellent resource for trace files is "Optimizing Oracle Performance" by Cary Millsap & Jeff Holt. (http://www.amazon.com/Optimizing-Oracle-Performance-Cary-Millsap/dp/059600527X ) I thought I knew trace files before, but this book brings your knowledge to a whole new level.

Compare 2 schemas and get the difference with .sql file.

I am using ORACLE DATABASE 11g R2 and ORACLE Linux 5.
I want to perform a very lengthy process and want to make it automated.
I am having a software named as SVN. In which all the developers keep their updated scripts.
We have 2 schema's one is used for developement and when all the development seems good we implement the scripts on the final schema which is used by testing people also.
Now every day we need to check the modifications in the development schema, that we do by observing the updated scripts in the SVN software. Now we get the scripts which are modified.
We will fire this scripts to a sample schema then we will compare the objects in this schema and the same objects in our final schema. If the objects in sample schema is different than the final schema it should give me the
script to create the same type object in the final schema.
Below is a proper example to explain :-
Developement Schema :- 'DEV'
SVN Script Schema :- 'SVNscript'
Main Schema :- 'MAIN'
1) On Monday developers modified/added 4 tables in the development schema names 'DEV' after working for a day they found that the changes are necessary and so checked-in in the SVN software.
2) On tuesday morning we found 4 scripts which has been modified/added in the SVN.
The Scripts were as follows :-
1St table :- An extra column was added.
2nd table :- An index was created on it.
3rd table :- 2 Columns were dropped from it.
4th table :- A new table is added in the schema.
Now taking these 4 scripts i am going to execute it in a sample schema named :- SVNscript
SVNscript schema will have now 4 tables with proper properties(columns,indexes,...). Now this is the final table structure as we want in our 'MAIN' schema .
Coming to MAIN schema which is our most important schema and all the development work is finally posted here.Considering MAIN schema is having around 1000 tables,500 function/procedure/package and many more DB objects.
I want to compare(one way compare) from SVNscript schema --> MAIN schema :- That the objects present in the SVNscripts schema is same or not in the MAIN schema. If its not same then this code should generate a .sql script for me which i should be able to fire on the MAIN schema.
The output .sql scripts should be something like this :-
1st Table :- Alter table add...
2nd Table :- Create index on table...
3rd Table :- Alter table drop...
4th table :- Create table tablename...

Yes I followed the tutorial properly this time. Still i have a few queries :-
1) This is returning me the 'ALTER TABLE...' statement but how to make it more efficient to return all the DDL dependent on the table, Like index,trigger,view...
2) I want to compare objects in a different schema on a different db. I have created an DBLINK but how to use it ... can i use it like

I want to compare two tables and log the difference in new table with the fields as (old value,new value, column name). The column name should be the changes value column

SSRS/Powerview to compare SQL table and excel sheet

I have a SQL table and an excel sheet with some data...
I want to be able to compare the two and find out which Excel rows are missing in the SQL table...
Would it be easier to do this report in SSRS or would it be better to do it in Excel PowerView?
If so how do I go about it?

According to your description, you want to compare the data of a SQL table and an excel sheet. To achieve this goal, we can create two tables in Reporting Services report, one for SQL table with SQL Server connection type, another for excel sheet with ODBC
connection type.
For more details about how to create the report, please see the following steps:
Create a report server project with SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) Business Intelligence Templates list.
Create a new report definition file in Solution Explorer.
Create a Data Source named DataSource1 with Microsoft SQL Server Type, then select the SQL table database from the corresponding server.
Create a Data Source named DataSource2 with ODBC Type, then select the excel file.
Create two datasets which returns the SQL data and Excel sheet data based on the two data source, one for DataSource1, another for DataSource2.
Create two table next to each other based on the datasets on the design surface.

Compare n kyf and m chanm of Top 10 Document-No.s between two dates

Dear BW-Gurus,
Our Customer want´s a query, which shows in the TOP 10 of some sales-doc´s and marks a line, if the key figures or a characteristic has changed from one date to an other date (Comparision of a sales document between two dates).
We now created a query with all of the key figures restricted to the one date and to the compare date and to get an info, if something has changed extra key figures build by a forumular subtracting one kyf from another.
We only want to show a TOP 10 list of the doc´s - but we have a very poor performance now.
1) is it possible to build a kind of aggregate containing only the top10 doc´s ? - this will speed up the query enormously.
2) We intend to compare the characterstics and kyfs by using virtual characeristic, which will do the comparison - do you think this is the right way?
How would you solve such a problem?

FullDays, looks wrong for sure, I assume it is supposed to be hours, but I don't think it is supposed to be subtracting 2 either. Anyway, your hours is actually the sum of your halfdays and fulldays.

Calling portal screen from workflow and required two level approvals to approve in portal

Hello Experts,
I have a requirement that, I would trigger a process order approval workflow from SRM SUS portal. Agent when he clicks the link in the attached mail, it has to take him to the portal screen to approve and it has to go to next level manager for the approval. Once both the managers approves, the approved quantity should be reflected in the SRM SUS portal for the order.
I have good experience in SAP WORKFLOWS in ECC. However; I have never worked on workflows through webdynpro and never worked on SRM portals as well.
Please help me in completing this scenario. I have found the proper button in the portal to trigger the workflow. Please guide me the best approach to design and how should I pass webdynpro application link to agent mail with the parameter Order. and how can i bring the control back to my workflow.

I m trying to write a code, I have tables A and table B.
I need to compare table A and table B , and update table B with one column.
using joins b/w A&B tables, I selected one record from table A in cursor.
After Begin I m trying to open cursor and in FOR LOOP
Im trying to update table B WHERE CURRENT OF Cursor.
this is erroring out.

You haven't posted nearly enough for anyone to help you. You didn't even tell us what error you are getting.
So about the only thing we can do is post a generic MERGE statement which you'll have to modify for your use.
merge into tableB b
using (select some_key, some_column from tableA where etc.) u
on (u.some_key = b.some_key)
when matched then update
set b.some_column = u.some_column;
