Porting EJBS from orion to JBoss

Hi
I want to port EJBs written in Orion application server to JBoss,
Which of the arreas chages are needed ? ,
Currently I am accessing EJBs from an Applet.
So can i use directly ear files in the Orion application server for JBoss.
I want my what all need be changed in following areas.
1. Server configuration
2. EJB deployment
3. Client code access ( i need to change JNDI initial contexts )
4. JMS configurations

You would require different deployment descriptors for JBoss.
jboss.xml for Ejbs.
Modify standardjaws.xml or create jaws.xml for entity beans.
Modify standardjbosscmp-jdbc.xml or create jbosscmp-jdbc.xml for Ejb jdbc.

Error while running EJB from java client on JBOSS

As i am new to EJB i have created a helloworld application in ejb which is working fine when i try to call it from servlet but when i try to invoke the same ejb from java client (i.e from diff jvm) on jboss i got the following error:

I am able to successfully deployed my ejb on JBOSS but i m getting above error when i am trying to invoke ejb from java client.

Issue in accessing EJB from plain java

Hi,
I am new to OAS. I am using OAS 10.1.2.
I want to access EJB which runs inside OAS, through a plain java program which runs from outside the OAS environment (standalone java program).
I am confused on what to use. RMIInitialContextFactory or ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory for the context in the java program.
what should be the provide URL ?

is it "ormi" or something else? what is the port number should i use. there are many ports in this OAS. i see that in the console("Ports") link.
also let me know what should i mention in the EJB xml descriptor.
Is this lookup to be done by retrieving from jndi?

Hi,
you do not have to package your EJB and PAR together! You can deploy them separately and then reference the J2EE Application from your PAR or vice versa to access it.
For instance you can access the EJB from your PAR as described here:

Or you can access a Portal application from J2EE like described here:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/42/9ddd0cbb211d72e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm
Even if you package your PAR in to the same EAR with your EJB they will result in two different containers on the J2EE Engine and you will have to reference them as described in the link above to access the functionality of one component from the other.

Looking up EJBs from a java client

While trying to migrate my application from standalone-oc4j
to Oracle Application Server 10g, I ran into the following problem.
My application has a stateless session bean. When trying to lookup the bean (from a java client), I get the following exception:
javax.naming.NamingException: Lookup error: javax.naming.AuthenticationException
Invalid username/password for UnifyoccEAR (ias_admin)
My code used the username/password I used to log into web-based console (which I used to deploy the application). The lookup code follows:

On a whim, I tried the old SCOTT/TIGER username/password and got the following
exception:

check the namespace-access tag setting in orion-application.xml for details
So evidently, SCOTT/TIGER is in the security database used by the app (but isn't
authorized) while the ias_admin user is not in the security database.
I have the following questions:
1. In the default configuration, is there a username/password I can use to
lookup EJB homes in the jndi namespace of an OC4J instance? If so, what
is it?
2. Where is the security database? I tried looking in the web-based console
to find how to configure security and could not figure it out. I did find
the Security page for the application, but when I tried to add a user,
it had no effect. Furthermore, this page did not show a user entry for
SCOTT; hence, it doesn't seem that OC4J is actually using the information
on this page. This is strange because the path to this page is:
Farm > Application Server: ias_admin.lab10.sac.unify.com > OC4J: home > Application: UnifyoccEAR > Security
I then went to the Security page for the default application and found
that it did have a SCOTT user. So I added a new user and tried to run
my java client. This resulted in the javax.naming.AuthenticationException
described above (I was expected the NoPermissionException encounted when
using SCOTT/TIGER). Next, I used the Security page for the default application
to change the password for SCOTT and reran my java client using SCOTT/TIGER.
This time I was expecting an AuthenticationException exception, but got the
NoPermission exception. Therefore, it seems that OC4J isn't using this
security data either.
Hunting in the console (again) for the security database, I stumble accross
the Infrasturcture page and see an Identity Management section and see that
it is configure to use an Oracle Internet Directory server. Using
<ORACLE_HOME>/bin/oidadmin, I connect to the directory server and look
for the SCOTT user. I don't find it, so I believe that this can't be the
security database either.
3. Finally, how do I configure the OC4J instance such that it will allow
anonymous users to lookup my EJB from a java client?
Please help a confused and frustrated user.

Looking at your example, it looks like you are using a J2EE client container or some properties file to specify the JNDI environment used to create the initial context (for you use the no-arg constructor to InitialContext). Since our application needs to the ability to dynamically connect to ejb's running on different Java application servers (e.g., WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss), such an approach will not work. Instead we must do it the old-fashioned way and pass the jdni connection info to the InitialContext constructor.
In any event, our problem isn't how to write the connection code, it is how to test it. Specifically, we can't figure out a valid username/password that will allow us to look up the home. Nor can we figure out how to configure security for the oc4j instance.

Problems using JAAS with EJB 3.0 on JBoss 4.0.4-GA

I have an EAR packed with a WAR module an EJB JAR module and a JAR with other classes. Struts is the MVC framework and EJB 3.0 is been used.
First of all, I configured the "login-config.xml" file within /conf directory in JBoss, like this:

Your code in SigemFacadeBean should just do:
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
when you lookup the local EJB. (This will work on all app servers. There's no need to put an app-server specific intial context factory in your code.)
Also, you can remove the jndi-name setting for the local ejb from your weblogic-ejb-jar.xml. jndi-name is only applied to remote ejbs.

Help me which JNDIFactory to use to access EJB from a java class of JAR

I am confused in understanding the different JNDI factories
RMIInitialContextFactory, ApplicationInitialContextFactory and ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory
And the different namespaces like global, container local and component local.
Especially is there any relationship between the JNDI factories and the namespaces?
Or are they related to the deployment descriptors.
Because in application specific deployment descriptors (orion-ejb-jar.xml), we just map the JNDI location with the object (or its reference from ejb-jar.xml). We dont specify it can be accessed from this factory or that.
Shall we access an EJB from using any JNDI factory?
Specifically, I am stuck with what Factory to use to access an EJB from a Java class in a library (jar). The JAR is packaged with the EAR which contains the EJB Jar that I am trying to access.

As Robin said, I think you need code similar to this:
Context c = new InitialContext();
Object o = c.lookup("java:comp/env/Name");where Name is the name of your EJB as it appears in the "ejb-jar.xml"
deployment descriptor XML file.

If you are migrating from ejb1.1->ejb1.1 you shouldn't have many changes - your ejb-jar.xml file should be the same (I assume you are still talking about ejbs). Once you pull over the base ejb - then if you want to, mess around with the automatically generated orion-ejb-jar.xml file. Obviously - those are all app server specific. I go back and forth between wls6.1 and oc4j all the time. When going from wls5.1 to oc4j - what particular issues do you run into. What do you mean, in particular, by configuration changes?

EJBs and other applications can be migrated from weblogic to oc4j but many changes are required.These changes are mainly configuration changes rather than code changes.Infact there are many problems in effect while migrating and delloyment.Hope oracle is a bit more attentive to this issue.

Hello,
You have 2 ways of calling an EJB from the DB:
- EJB Call out, since it is JBoss you willl have to load the JBoss client API in the DB.
- or expose the EJB as Web Service and call the Web Service from the DB using Web Services call out. Maybe theis approach is simpler since you do not have dependency on the EJB container and only use SOAP & HTTP protocols.

[UNSOLVED] deploy ejb-jsf application to jboss

I have developed a very simple web application with jdev 10.1.3.1 j2ee edition (no adf). The application uses ejb 3.0 and jsf technology.
The application follows the pattern of the ‘Java EE tutorial’ at this url:

but it is much simpler and I don’t use security mechanisms.
For instance I use a session façade.
The application has two projects: Model and ViewController. To deploy the application I created an ejb jar deployment profile for the model project and a war deployment profile for the ViewController. Then I created a new ‘Deployment’ project with an ear deployment profile to assemble the ejb jar and war deployment profiles. In this way I was able to deploy to standalone oc4j.
Now I want to deploy to jboss 4.0.4 GA, I mapped the jboss connection within jdev and selected ‘deploy to jboss’. The ear is transferred to the correct folder, but the application folder is not generated and the jboss log shows at least one error. As you can see below, it seems it expects the local-home tag for the session façade, but I deleted it as suggested in the tutorial.
I really need help on this topic, thank you.

To be in same page, iam running the client program using the IBM jre and using all the websphere client jars set in classpath. This program conatins intial context factory as "com.ibm.websphere.naming.WsnInitialContextFactory" and provider url as "iiop://hostname:portnumber" it contacts the EJB bean method which is hosted on the weblogic server on the "hostname" machine. When it tries to contact i get the errror as
"javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Context: , name: java.iecc.env.ejb.elf.client_new(My JNDI name): First component in name java.iecc.env.ejb.elf.client_new not found. [Root exception is org.omg.CosNaming.NamingContextPackage.NotFound: IDL:omg.org/CosNaming/NamingContext/NotFound:1.0]"

IIOP Connection Hangs: Deploying Hotel EJB from Technet

Hi,
I was trying to deploy the EJB from the sample hotel application
available at TECHNET. The System is using the standard ORacle 8i
port for ORB.
Please help identify the connection failure for IIOP connection.

Can you connect via the session shell to the orb namespace (with
the same service URL you are trying to deploy to) from the same
machine? This will validate the IIOP communiactions is working.
If the connection isn't working it may take quite some time to
actually error out.

          oddly enough the same chunk of code works fine in a stand alone client if

The problem before was that you were trying to load the same class from
          2 different class paths. The ClassCastException is very un-intuitive in this

I'm very new at EJB and I'm trying to learn it.
I have created Enterprise Application using Netbeans IDE, I have EJB and APP client. What I want is to connect to my MySql database and get some info from table.
For e.g. Login and Password.
How can I call EJB from my client app which connects to my database and gets information I need?
