Possible memory leaks with WL 6.1 SP1?

Hi,
I'm developing an application using WL 6.1 SP1 on NT/2000 (and my client is using
an AIX server).
Running "load tests" (-> only one client wich creates lot of records) and monitoring
the process using the console I can see that the memory usage grows steadly (also
when the client does nothing!) until a point where the server goes OutOfMemory (e.g.
after 60'000 records).
I tried to analyze the problem using OptimizeIt, and I can during our businessServices
lots of object are generated but after a (forced) GC they are no more there.
I've tried using this command-line options:
-ms128m -mx128m
or
-classic -ms128m -mx128m
or
-server -ms128m -mx128m
or
-server -ms128m -mx128m -XX:MaxPermSize=64m
What could I do?
Should I tried to use JDK 1.3.1_04 (now JDK 1.3.1_b24)?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion: where can I download the SP3? (I've searched
it
but I'ven't found it)
Thanks a lot and have a nice day

  • Memory leak with 1.6.0_07 in applet using Swing

    Java Plug-in 1.6.0_07
    Using JRE version 1.6.0_07 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
    Windows XP - SP2
    I have a commercial application that has developed a memory leak with the introduction of the latest plugin. The applets chew up memory and eventually freeze. They did not before. Using jvisualm I see a build up of native arrays, primarily int[][] and char[]. I'm still investigating. Anyone have a similar experience?
    The Applet uses a swing interface, uses buffered images and swing timers, and regularly performs http connections to the server which result in actions via the SwingUtil.invokeLater() method.

    I am Using Internet Explorer Browser Version 6.0.Huge security hole.
    Its not throwing Error / Exception Wrap a try/catch at the highest level possible.
    Catch 'Throwable'. And log/display it somewhere.

  • Memory leaks with Third party classes

    Hello all,
    This is fairly known problem. But I guess, my problem gives a new dimention to the problem.
    I have an application which is developed by me. This application ideally needed to use third party classes ( obviously no source code is supplied ). These third party classes provide extra functionality required.
    The problem is, when I don't use third party classes in my application, every thing is fine. When I include third party classes, I am having memory leaks.
    Then I tried to investigate memory leaks with Optimizeit tool. It is new to me. As of now, I understood, we can identify where the memory leaks are occuring.
    finally the problem is, in order to solve this, I need some patches in the code. But I don't have source code for those classes. How to solve this problem?
    For example,
    I use a third party classes in my code like this,
    ThirdPartyMemoryLeakClass obj = new ThirdPartyMemoryLeakClass();
    This 'obj' is made static, as it takes lot of time to create this object. Obviously this object contains several references to other objects, which I can't control.
    In the process of reusing this object, I am getting memory leaks.
    Any ideas regarding, how one has to deal this type of situations? What are the issues involved with this case? Are there any similar problems, which have been solved? are most welcome.
    many thanks for your time.
    Madhav

    Decompile it using jad. Find leak.Yes, I too got the idea and tried to decompile those classes and recompile. I had some problems while recompiling. Is this is the only way to get rid of this problem?
    I was refering to powersoft.datawindow.DataStore class. Does any body here has worked on these?
    Can you suggest me how to find the memory leak causes? if you were needed to find out memory leak causes, what would be your approach?

  • Memory Leak with JPopupMenu

    It seems there is a memory leak with JPopupMenu. The following program demonstrates this leak. If you run the program, click on show form, and then close the form, the used memory will be GCd appropriately. If you click on show form, then right click on the table to show the popup (even if you dont do anything else with the popup) then close the form, it never GCs the form. I've tried all kinds of crazy things, but I cant seem to find what is keeping the memory from being GCd.

    BTW instead of continually printing out the memory use a profiler (jvisualvm in the jdk/bin directory -> heapdump -> search on your class -> view in instances -> find nearest GC root).
    Looks like BasicPopupMenuUI doesn't remove a reference to the JRootPane immediately. As far as I can see it will be removed when another menu shows.
    As a hackish workaround you can try this in you FrmReferrals#uninit():
                for(ChangeListener listener : MenuSelectionManager.defaultManager().getChangeListeners()) {
                    if (listener.getClass().getName().contains("MenuKeyboardHelper")) {
                        try {
                            Field field = listener.getClass().getDeclaredField("menuInputMap");
                            field.setAccessible(true);
                            field.set(listener, null);
                        } catch (Exception e) {
                            // ignored
                        break;
                }Funnily enough though it isn't there when I reduce your code to a SSCCE:

  • Possible Memory Leak, many instances of macromedia.jdbc.oracle.OracleConnection, serviceFactory

    I'm using a plug-in for Eclipse to help identify possible memory leaks however we are having trouble interpreting the results.  The top, and pretty much the only, suspect is this...
    7,874 instances of "macromedia.jdbc.oracle.OracleConnection", loaded by "coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapClassLoader @ 0xf935218" occupy 604,781,904 (71.02%) bytes. These instances are referenced from one instance of "java.util.HashMap$Entry[]", loaded by "<system class loader>"
    Any ideas what could cause this many instances?  How do we track this back to a particular cfm or cfc?  Do these number seem high or is that normal?  The system in question normally only has 30-60 concurrent users.
    The one item I'm a little skeptical of is the use of the "coldfusion.server.ServiceFactory" and "coldfusion.sql.QueryTable" objects.  We use them for 1000s of different queries, even queries within large loops.  Could these be the problem?  Each time we need to execute a query we do a createObject for each of these objects, when done we close the connection.  I recently found a similar example where they close the recordSet first and then close the connection, we are not closing the recordSet.  Any help at all is much appreciated.

    It could simply be caused by the obvious: a query or queries making a large number of connections and/or consuming large resources on the Oracle database. Use Eclipse to search your application folder for queries. Can you identify any queries that could be the culprit? Is there a loop containing a method or an instance of a component that queries an Oracle database?
    What's your Coldfusion  version? If you're on CF8 or CF9 then the server monitor (in the Coldfusion Administrator) might tell you the process responsible for the high consumption.

  • Possible memory leak in e4x or HTTPService with e4x format

    Hello,
    I think I have found a memory leak in e4x.
    In very special cases (=xml) the player swallows the memory.
    The little test program connects to a web server for an xml
    file, and the result is converted to an array.
    The array is displayed in a DataGrid.
    There are two files:
    leaktest.xml doesn't leak in any cases (format: e4x or xml)
    pbentries.xml leaks when the format is e4x.
    Choose e4x format and check Use "Leak" file! Than the program
    leaks.
    For the whole test case (mxml file, html file and xml files)
    please contact me at
    [email protected]
    or
    [email protected]
    and I send a zip file as soon as possible.
    Probably there is a bug in my test program. If so than please
    send me a feedback.
    Thanks,

    If somebody could confirm the leak it would be appreciated.

  • Memory Leak with cloneModelFromCastMember()?

    Hello Experts!
    I have been experiencing an apparent memory leak within
    Director 11 when
    using cloneModelFromCastMember().
    I was making the assumption that calling resetWorld() on a
    w3D member
    onBeginSprite() would garbage collect any models previously
    cloned into that
    when I previously ran the movie.
    However, if I repeatedly start and stop the movie Director
    Gobbles roughly
    10Mb more memory each time. The memory usage does not reduce
    upon calling
    resetWorld()
    A good way to replicate this is to use
    cloneModelFromCastMember() on a
    largeish model in a repeat with i = 1 to 50 loop on the on
    beginSprite
    handler.
    Start and stop the movie over and over to see Director's
    memory usage hike
    up.
    Anybody have any advice why this is happening? Do I need to
    explicitly
    delete all models cloned into a member on stopMovie????
    Cheers
    Richard Smith

    Hi Zzzorro,
    Thanks for the advice!
    Why does cloning from external w3D members help? Does it
    avoid the memory
    leak? It never used to happen on Director 8.5 so it has to be
    a new Version
    10 / 11 bug right?
    I need to import several weightmapped boned characters into a
    3D member, and
    due to export issues each character has to have it's own w3D
    file.
    So I have to perform cloning at runtime to build the world. I
    also need to
    clone these characters based on the level, so I can't use
    just one single 3D
    member for both these reasons.
    Thanks for any further ideas.

  • Memory leak with multi-threaded environment

    When starting an environment with the THREADED_MUTEXED
    or THREADED_UNMUTEXED mode parameter, the oracle OCCI API
    has a memory leak. This can be demonstrated by modifying
    the "occidml.cpp" demo program as follows:
    Replace line 26:
    env = Environment::createEnvironment (Environment::DEFAULT);
    with
    env = Environment::createEnvironment (Environment::THREADED_MUTEXED);
    And replace line 164:
    demo->displayAllRows();
    with
    for (int ii=0; ii<10000; ii++) demo->displayAllRows();
    Recompile and run the program, and use "top" to see the
    size of the process's used memory continually increase
    unbounded.
    I am using the Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 database on Linux,
    gcc version 2.96.
    Is anyone aware of a fix for this problem?

    Yeah, I did suffer from this.
    If possible , you can switch to using OCCI on Oracle 10G client , you will find no memory leak issue anymore.
    Another issue is that OCCI is using default connection-blocking implementation , if a DB connection is blocked by accident just like plugging out the network link, you can not get any timeout or connection closed indications. You must implement your own OCCI connection timeout strategy, and you must kill the thread/process you are using.

  • Memory Leak with GotoAndStop()

    I am trying to track down a solution to a memory leak within an embedded video.  If I embed a video on the timeline and then run gotoAndStop or gotoAndPlay to a specific frame every time the frame changes it takes in more memory until it crashes at about 1.7GB however if I run a straight play() on the same clip the memory usage remains constant.  I have also tried System.gc() as it is an AIR App and have tried unloadAndStop() with the embeded video being loaded into a Loader and neither can reclaim any memory.
    I am looking for a a way to resolve the memory leak or another way to be able to rapidly jump to specific frames of video as far as I know this is not possible with external flvs.
    Thanks
    Dave

    video is much like a .gif file.  if you start at frame 0 and jump to frame 30 it needs to redraw what it does nt have in frame 30  which means tellign it to start at frame 30 is the same as telling it to get all information from when it last changed which might be frame 27 to complete the frame of what should display on frame 30.
    this is why its slow to play backwards.  and best to play an flv forward.
    what i would suggest if you do not need video persay, would be to use png sequences.  but if your videos are long then i suppose it would be a greater advantage to keep it compressed.
    what is the quality as well of the video and its size and your frame rate?
    You mention that you are creating a 3d view, how is that?  do you use more than 1 swf ?
    I still think this does not sound like a play head issue, since the video is already compiled.

  • Memory leak with CryptGetProvParam

    I suspect there is a memory leak in the function CryptGetProvParam. I made a Win32Console app in Visual Studio 2008 to recreate the problem. With the example app running it is possible to use Task Manager to see the memory usage of the .exe steadily increase

    "BYTE* pbSD = (BYTE*)LocalAlloc(LHND,dwSDLen);"
    LHND? It's surprising that this doesn't crash the program. Use LPTR.
    More generally, stay away from LocalAlloc/LocalFree, use malloc/new/HeapAlloc. Use LocalAlloc only if the API you're working with specifically requires LocalAlloc, that's rare.

  • Possible memory leak in TagFileTagInfo class

    Hello,
    Our application is experiencing a memory leak in Weblogic, which is not happening in other application servers.
    We are running Weblogic server 10.3 using the distributed jsf 1.2
    Eclipse Memory Analyzer clearly points to TagFileTagInfo class as retaining a Map which holds all the memory. Furthermore, it shows that said map (called _tagFileInfoMap) is holding FileTagFileInfo class instances.
    It could be possible that our application were doing something wrong, and that would cause the described behavior, however I doubt that as the other application servers where our application is deployed do not present this problem.
    Any suggestion on how we should proceed to fix this problem?
    Thanks
    Juan

    Hi,
    Was this issue resolved by using wlappc?
    Were you able to compile the tag files with wlappc? I tried compiling the jsps using wlappc, but it seems that the tool expects an ejb-jar file.
    Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • [Bug?] X-Control Memory Leak with Large Data Array

    [LV2009]
    [Cross-posted to LAVA]
    I have found that if I pass a large data array (~4MB in this example) into an X-Control, it causes massive memory allocations (1 GB+).
    Is this a known issue?
    The X-Control in the video was created, then the Data.ctl was changed to 2D Array - it has not been edited in any other way.
    I also compare the allocations to that of a native 2D Array (which is only ~4MB).
    Note: I jiggled the Windows Task Manager about so that JING would update correctly, its a bit slow, but it essentially just keeps rolling up and doesn't stop.
    Demo code attached.
    Cheers

    X Control Bug [LV2009].zip ‏42 KB

    Hi Jon (cool name)
    Thank you very much for your reply. We came to this conclusion in the cross post and it is good to have it confirmed by LabVIEW R&D. Your response is also similar to that of my AE which I got this morning as well - see below:
    Note: Your reference number is included in the Subject field of this
    message. It is very important that you do not remove or modify this
    reference number, or your message may be returned to you.
    Hi Jon,
    You probably found some information from the forum. The US engineer has gotten back and he said that unfortunately that's expected behaviour after they have conducted some tests and this is what he replied:
    "X Controls in the background use events structures. In particular the Data Change Event is called when the value of the XControl changes (writing to the terminal, local variable, or value change property). What is happening in this case is the XControl is getting called to fast with a large set of data that the event structure is queuing the events and data that a memory leak is produced. It is, unfortunately, expect behavior. The main work around for the customer in this case is not call the XControl as often. Another possibility is to use the Synchronous Display Property to defer updates to the Xcontrol, this might slow down a leak."
    He would also like to know if you can provide with more details how you are using the Xcontrol, perhaps there is a better way. Please refer to the link below for synchronous display. Thank you.
    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/lvprop/control_synchronous_display/
    In my application I updated the X-Control @ 1Hz and it allocated at MBs/s up to 1+GB before it crashed, all within a few hours. That is why I called it a leak. I am really worried that if this CAR gets killed, there will still be an issue lingering that makes using X-Controls a major problem under the above conditions. I have had to pull two sets of libraries from my code because of this - when they got replaced with native LabVIEW controls the leak when away (but I lost reuse and encapsulation etc...).
    Anyways, I really want to use X-Control tho (now and in the future) as I like all other aspect of them. If you do not consider this a leak, can a different #CAR be raised that may modify the existing behavior? I offer the suggestion (in the cross-post) that the data be ignored rather than queued? Similar to Christian's idea, but for X-Controls. Maybe as an option?
    I look forward to discussing this with you further.
    Regards

  • Memory Leak with new Font()

    Hello all,
    Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes. I have a program that needs to change the font of at least 250,000 letters, however after doing this the program runs slow and laggy as if changing the fonts of each letter took up memory and never released it? Here is a compilable example, Click the button at the bottom of the window and watch the letter it is currently working on. You will notice that around 200,000 it will begin to not smoothly count up anymore but count in kind of a skipping pattern. This seems to get worse the more you do it and seems to indicate to me that something is using memory and not releasing it. I'm not sure why replacing a letter's font with a new font would cause more memory to be taken up I would think if I was doing it properly it would simply replace the old font with the new one not taking anymore memory then it did before. Here is the example: This program sometimes locks up so be prepared. If someone could maybe point out what is causing this to take up more memory after changing the fonts that would be great and hopefully find a solution :) Thanks in advance.

    }Here is the block of code that I think is causing the problem:
    //THIS CLASS SEEMS TO HAVE SOME KIND OF MEMORY LEAK I'M NOT SURE?
    class ChangeFonts implements Runnable {
        public void run() {
        Random rand = new Random();
            for(int i = 0; i<states.size(); i++) {
                font = new Font("Arial",Font.PLAIN,rand.nextInt(50));
                states.get(i).font = font; // this line seems to cause the problem?
                add.setText("Working on letter - "+i);
    }

    You're creating a quarter million distinct Font objects, and obviously you must be hanging on to all of them because each character is having its font set to the newly created object. So if you have 250k chars, you're forcing it to have 250k Font objects.
    Since the only difference is that rand.nextInt(50) parameter, just pre-create 50 Font objects with 0..49, stick 'em in the corresponding elements in an array, and use rand.nextInt to select the Font object to use.That does make sense but it does that when the the program is first launched and doesn't lag. But the second and third time you change the letters font it seems to lag so if it wasn't taking up more memory the second time it should perform like it did when it first launched. I don't care to investigate any further. The real problem is almost certainly the quarter million Font objects. It could be that 250k is fine, but by the time you get to 500k, it has to do a lot of GC, and that's where the slow down is coming. You might even be able to make it work better with the code you have just by tweaking the GC parameters at startup, but I wouldn't bother. Fix the code first, and then see if you have issues.
    Does creating a new font for each of those letters not replace the old font object? If it didn't use more memory the second and third time I don't think you would see the skipping in the counter and the slowing down of the iterations. So it must be remembering some of the old font objects or am I wrong?Using new always creates a new object. When you do it the second time around, and call letter.setFont(newFont), the old Font object is eligible for GC. That doesn't mean it will be GCed right away though. The JVM can leave them all laying around until it runs out of memory, and then GC some or all of them.

  • Possible memory leak in JSF help needed

    Hi,
    We are developing a JSF application using the following:
    SUN JSF 1.1_02-b08
    Tomahawk 1.1.3
    Tomcat 5.5
    Our application includes pages with lists; these lists are held and extracted from backing beans.
    We are using these beans in request scope with <t:saveState> tag (to avoid holding the lists in the session all the time).
    We tested the application using JProbe and found out that each bean that was used in the saveState was added to the view (to the session) , each time we entered the page , and the bean was not released until the end of the session (instead of only one instance of the backing bean).
    After I found this problem, I added the following context params to the web.xml:
    com.sun.faces.NUMBER_OF_VIEWS_IN_SESSION = 1 (instead of the default 15)
    com.sun.faces.NUMBER_OF_VIEWS_IN_LOGICAL_VIEW_IN_SESSION = 1 (instead of the default 15)
    We tested the application again, and now no unnecessary instances of the beans were held in the session (in the view).
    BUT , now when we use the browser Back button, and returning to a page with a list, when selecting an item from the list, no action is performed (the list in the server side does not exist).
    My questions are:
    1)What is the meaning (difference) of each of the context param : NUMBER_OF_VIEWS_IN_SESSION , NUMBER_OF_VIEWS_IN_LOGICAL_VIEW_IN_SESSION
    2)What are the recommended values for these parameters, to minimize session memory, and to enable the usage of the browser Back button.
    Thank you all,
    Lior.

    Me too.
    Please somebody knows how can we avoid memory leak problems in JSF 1.1 ?
    Thansk in advanced
