Power PC G4 running OS 10.5.8 no longer sync with iPad iOS7, what's up?

Leopard (OS X 10.5) came out in October, 2007.  iOS 7 came out in October, 2013.
You need an absolute minimum of OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to run iTunes 11 which can sync devices using iOS 7.
In the U.S., you could purchase Snow Leopard here:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
... then update it to OS X 10.6.8.
UPDATE -- Sorry!  I don't think you have an Intel processor Mac, and therefore cannot run Snow Leopard.  You need a new computer to sync using iOS 7.

    I just updated my iPad to IOS 7.02 and unfortunately can no longer sync with my MacBook running OS 10.5.8. I'm wary about updating to Lion as this may cause any number of apps on my Macbook not to work at all or malfunction. Also my MacBook is 5 years old, and I was thinking about purchasing a new computer. I would like to decide when rather than be forced though. Does anyone have any suggestions for a work around? At the moment I do not subscribe to the cloud, and it looks like that is the only way I can back up my iPad now.

    Upgrade to Snow Leopard - it's compatible with the latest version of iTunes, and still supports PowerPC applications.
    $19.99 - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Snow Leopard is required if you wanted to upgrade to Lion, anyway, which you may want to in the future if the latest version of iTunes no longer supports Snow Leopard.

    update : so after reading numerous posts, I tried unchecking entire playlist and just tried one of my playlists. That sync seemed to work, so I rechecked entire playlist and did the sync. It worked. Then I went in to my "walk to work" playlist and added some songs to see if it would sync now, and it did!!! so happy now. will see what happens tomorrow.

  • HT1386 my iPhone will no longer sync with iTunes.  running a pc with win 8/64bit

    why won't my iPhone sync with iTunes?  i'm running latest version of iTunes on a PC OS Win 8/64bit?

    It's ridiculous how difficult this is.  I've reinstalled iTunes, played with the settings, and it just doesn't work.
    It will happily sync my computer library (which has nothing in it) with my phone library (589 songs) thereby (presumably) wiping out the 589 songs.
    But I can't get it to sync the other way and copy the iPhone library to the computer.
    It also puts new CDs on the computer but not on the phone, where I want them.
    Is there anyone at Apple that cares about this abject stupidity in the software?

  • Movies do not run and cover art is missing in iTunes Mac after sync with iPad

    I down load purchased movies from Apple to my iPad.  The movies runs fine and cover art is visible.  Great.  However, after I sync with my Mac Mini, the cover art on my iPad is missing.  The cover art in the iTunes library on my Mac Mini is missing, and the movies won't run on the Mac Mini.  Whe I re-sync, I get a message that says the movie can't sync because it can't be found.

    Is your album cover issue resolved?
    If not, have you perhaps tried to disable iTunes Match on your iPhone (in Settings) and signed out of your Apple ID (on the phone)? This might work.
    The issue seems to be that the iTunes Match server does not update all the tracks with the new album cover art, particularly if you added the covers some time after importing the CD's (remember then that there was no cover art on some of them!)
    Another possible solution is to rename the iTunes database (.itl file) by appending say "old" (without the quotes) and recreate a new one with maybe 1 or 2 albums, wait for the server to match the tracks (you can check on your iPhone after disabling and then re-enabling iTunes Match on the phone), then delete the 1 or 2 albums so that the iTunes music library is empty and wait again; you can check the iPhone again.
    Finally, quit iTunes, delete the latest database and rename the original database with its original name (by removing the "old" appendage).
    Then let iTunes Match reload the server with all the information: this might take a few minutes (hours?) depending on the size of the library.
    In the meantime you can remove all the music on the iPhone by disabling iTunes Match in the phone's settings.

    Ever since I installed adobe flash player 12 my videos run slow and out of sync with the audio it is like it pauses for a couple seconds and starts back working and keeps doing that.

    Hi jth10,
    The troubleshooting steps provided by Adobe can be found here: [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_For_Windows_users]

  • [RESOL]after running net8 easy config php no longer connects with ora_logon

    fixed by adding .WORLD to the ora_logon command :)
    servers:
    oracle 8i 8.1.7.4.0 remotely located called PROD
    windows 2000 server running IIS and php 4.3.4 net8
    above windows server was passed down to me so initial setup was done by someone else
    I needed to update the TSNNAMES.ora file to add a connection to a new oracle database (DEV) on the 2K web server. I located the tnsnames.ora file in c:\orant\net80\admin and created a backup.
    I then ran the net8 easy config to create the new tns name
    I tested the new database with a php file that uses $dbh = ora_login("$user@DEV","$Pass");
    this failed for the new SID. I checked and noticed also that all my old php files pointing to PROD where also failing with the dreaded ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name.
    Now because this was only a quick test to check on the new TNSname I copyed back my old TNSNAMES.ORA file to the c:\orant\net80\admin directory. Problem is all of my php files still give the same error message.
    I started testing
    pngtns PROD == "OK"
    tried to login the way I use to login with the GUI sqlplus
    Username = user@PROD
    Pass = Pass
    HOST = {left blank}
    this gives me the ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name error. It use to work like this
    I then tried
    Username = user
    Pass = Pass
    HOST = PROD
    This worked and I was able to successfully run a query
    Username = user
    Pass = Pass@PROD
    HOST = {left blank}
    This also works
    I then went to the command line and ran sqlplus username@PROD/Pass
    It returns ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name. and askes me for a username
    I put in username@PROD
    then it prompts
    Password: I put in my password here and it works, and connect me to the server
    I tried to change my scripts to ora_login("user","Pass@PROD"); and it produces a
    ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination.
    Unfortunatly I cannot for the life of me get oci8 functionality to work with this version of php. If I add it to the extensions and uncomment it from php.ini it hangs the whole server. And at this point I'm woried about screwin more things up.
    Any help is very appreciated.
    I verified and setup environmental variables for TNS_ADMIN, and ORACLE_HOME
    I put DEV back in because it made no difference with or without it in the tnsnames.ora file.

  • HT1338 iMac with OS x 10.5.8 upgrade to run with ipad mini

    Currently running OS X 10.5.8 on an iMac6,1 (Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo). Need to upgrade software to sync with Ipad Mini, can I go straight to Montain Lion, or what are the required steps? Thanks

    You need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD and then run Software Update. No further OS upgrades are needed; if it matters, that Mac can't run Mountain Lion.

    Yes ... with regard to syncing. Actually, you need to be running OS X 10.6.8. This is copied from the iPad Mini tech specs website.
    Apple ID (required for some features)
    Internet access6
    Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
    Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later
    PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later

  • Noisy power supply when running of UPS?... follow up post.

    Ned/The hatter your input here would be most appreciated along with anyone else using a UPS with your mac pro. Please read on...
    Having just concluded a rather detailed any lengthy post over in the power mac g5 forum with regards to loud buzzing noise from the power supply running of battery backup.
    I recemmend reviewing the link below for the full and i think interesting read...
    Linked here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=665537&tstart=0
    To sum it up it concluded that my model of UPS (Belkin) produces a simulated sine wave. I am unsure of technicals here, but this then makes the power supply in powermac G5's make a nasty electrical noise as the unit works to sort it out. What is ideal is a pure sine wave i understand.
    The reason for my post was that i was concerned the noise was a sign of harm being done to my mac. No one has said either way yet that this noise is either just a nuisance and it something thats got to be lived or that its actually harming my machine.
    Anyhow it turns out that the RS series from APC also makes the G5 powermac make a noise. And i am aware that Ned along with some others use the APC RS series with there mac pro's. What i am looking to find out is... Do you have a noise from your power supplys when running on battery backup with your new shiney mac pro's?
    The APC smart ups series however does not make the powermac G5 make a noise this has been confirmed by several users. I guess this is because these models produce pure wave sine.
    As you can see this has all got very complicated and over my head.
    The reason for me coming into this forum and asking about noisy power supplys when using certain UPS is because shortly i will be switching to a Mac pro. And if the power supplys in these are different and dont make a noise when running under battery with certain APC Rs's and the new Dual form belkin units then i wont return my current belkin model in exchange for a APC smart ups. I will just live it for a short time whilst i own my G5 and just hope it wont do any damage if and when we have a power outage.
    Thank you to anyone that can guide or assist me with this dilemma. Cheers Pob

    Pobster,
    Switching power supplies (such as those used in computers) do not require a "pure" analog sine wave input; they are more than capable of running on PWM/stepped sine wave input. The noise from the power supply when running on power from a PWM output UPS does not indicate that damage is being done to your machine; it's a harmless side effect.
    Some equipment will be damaged if powered via PWM input; items with compressors (refrigerators, air conditioners) definitely fall into this category, as well as some medical equipment and telecom equipment.
    I live in an area with notoriously dirty power; a UPS is critical in my case (I'd argue that it is critical in any case, however). I've ran my equipment on UPSs for many years, and the price has dropped significantly. I've got one APC SmartUPS with pure sine wave output which was purchased for me by a client, but most of my equipment is running on UPS with PWM output. It's not uncommon for me to have 20-30 power events in a given day - most of them transient voltage drops or spikes; I've still got an old Sun Sparc 10 file server that's still chugging along.
    A couple of interesting articles for your perusal:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051009043816537
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-width_modulation
    A quick google will turn up lots more information on the topic. APC used to have a white paper on their site which talked about this very topic.
    Most manufacturers provide connected equipment insurance - tripp lite, for example, provides $250,000(US) coverage. I've never known anyone who actually needed to use this coverage - I certainly haven't .
    In brief: A UPS with PWM output will not harm your computer; switching power supplies are more than capable of handling this. If the noise bothers you, look for a UPS with "pure sine wave" output - you will pay more for this feature; it's an aesthetic choice in this case.

  • I have a Late 2005 (Power PC) G5 running 10.5.7 that I purchased used from

    Hi all,
    I have a Late 2005 (Power PC) G5 running 10.5.7 (13 GB ram) that I purchased used from a company online that refurbishes and resells off-lease machines. It worked great until a few days ago when I came back to it frozen. It had a pixelated pattern over everything, and would not force quit, so I held the power button in to shut it down. Ever since, I still get the pixelated display, and it will not get past the startup screen. The progress indicator (under the apple) twirls for a bit, and then stops. Then nothing happens. Fans are quiet, I tried pulling out sticks of ram & swapping, hit the reset on the board, removed & replaced the battery & reset the pram. I can get the drive to come up remotely in target mode, repaired permissions and ran disk utility - says the disk is OK. Video card? Logic board? Something totally obvious that I am missing? I bought used because I am on a limited budget, and now, 6 months after my purchase, I have an expensive paperweight and had to go back to my trusty but slow dual 1ghz G4. This is really killing me personally, and productivity wise. Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Please let me know if there is any info I have not provided. Thanks in advance!!!

    Can you boot the machine from the Leopard installer DVD without issue? If so then perhaps the OS just needs to be reinstalled. This is something you can do without erasing the drive:
    How to Perform an Archive and Install
    An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
    If you have the Apple Hardware Test disc for the computer, then you can boot from it and run the hardware diagnostics.
