Powerpoint-style bullets on mac/pc

Hi All:
Anyone have insights as to how to mimic powerpoint-style
bullet behavior in Director? In other words, it's not just a matter
of numtoChar, it's also the indents, etc... just like ppt,
basically!
I already know about this:
if the platform contains "win" then
bullet = numtoChar(149)
else bullet = numtoChar(165)
This is for an cross-platform program, so we have to deal
with font issues on both Mac and PC. There's also things like
keeping just the bullet in wingdings (or whatever) if they
backspace up to it, so they don't start typing with wingdings font
accidentally...
Thanks!

You can set the leftIndent property of a member or a chunk of
lines in a
member. Check the docs for syntax, but I think it's something
like this to
set lines 3-6 (inclusive).
member("textMember").line[3..6].leftIndent = 18

You can certainly use iWork, though I hesitate to recommend it to a seasoned Windows user simply because it would add another level of the unfamiliar with which you would have to gain familiarity. The iWork applications are certainly very competent and in most respects both easy to use and surprisingly powerful. They are not 100% compatible however, though that typically manifests itself in document formatting issues rather than anything more significant.
I have never attempted to import emails from a Windows system into MacOS - other than in Outlook connected to an Exchange server, thus not really an issue at all. I doubt that the Mail app in MacOS can import directly, but of course you could always set the account(s) up on the Mac and then forward emails you want to keep from the PC. Not elegant, but it works. Virtually any Windows document or file, whichever application created it, can be opened or converted for use on a Mac, and using both systems on my desk each day I rarely see any issues switching stuff from one machine to the other. You may stumble over one or two issues, but likely not significant.
In switching platforms there will be some inevitable issues, not so much with being able to import your stuff because there's usually a workaround or a utility that can help, but just with getting familiar with the platform and the differences between Windows and MacOS that can obscure their similarities. From time to time the support community here hears from a user who has found the migration very problematic and regrets it, but for the most part the phrase 'I should have done this years ago...' is rather more prevalent!

  • How to do Pharagraph Style with wireless mac keyboard?

I used to do shortcuts normally in InDesign like Pharagraph Style or Character Style with extended mac keyboard, but now with wireless keyboard (the short keyboard) can't find how to do it!!

You must contact Kaspersky and have them provide an update. Firefox does not provide updates on behalf of Kaspersky.

Try your luck with the Magic Eight Ball. That will give you just as reliable an answer as you will get here.

  • Can you apply "Indent To Here" in a paragraph style (Bullets & Numbering Section)? ID-CS6/MAC

    Hi Adobe comunity,
As the title of this discussion states, can I apply "Indent to here" within paragraph styles. Please take a look at the attached image which will give you an idea of my dilema.
Any info on the matter would be greatly appreiated.

    Peter,
Thanks. this is definitely a work around. The only problem with this solution is that if a document has a ton of bullet levels, the designer has to perform and keep up a ton of math in order to do proper levels. Which is cumbersome. At the same time time, the Indent To Here (ITH) command is so much more cleaner and efficient specially when it comes to visual alignment of the when "shape shifting bullets" are used.
    Example:
    i. bullet
    ii. bullet
    iii. bullet
In the above example, the ITH would create clean copy alignments thorought on all secondary line copy while the -/+ indents would not be able to remain consitent (unless the designer has to tweak every bullet with indent levels). That is, on the above example, the second lines on bullets ii and iii would be irregularly aligned.
So i take it one cannot input the ITH command onto the "Number Field". Hmmph. lol

  • Powerpoint presentation created on Mac looks awful on PC - I'M DESPERATE!

I am creating a Powerpoint presentation on my G-5 that will be shown tomorrow, probably on a PC.
I burned a disc tonight as a test and viewed it on a PC and all the fonts look awful.
It has coverted them to something else entirely and in the process totally messed up alignment, etc.
I may have no control over what this is shown on, so I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to embed fonts into a Powerpoint, so that whatever it is shown on, it will look right.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.
    J.

If you want to use Powerpoint to display the presentation I don't think you have any choice but to use Windows fonts that you would expect to find on a typical PC.
Couldn't you print the presentation as a PDF and use Adobe Reader to display the slides? A PDF created on a Mac should look the same on a PC because fonts are embedded in the PDF.

  • Graphic Styles Freezes on Mac

With the latest Illustrator update through Creative Cloud, every time I try to open the Graphic Styles panel my Illustrator gets the spinning beach ball on the Mac (OS 10.7.5) and I have to force quit. Anyone else having this issue?

The default styles that populate that palette are coming from files in this folder.
Here are the files in that folder for CS5, CS6 should be similar.
Sometimes these files get their access preferences corrupted, hence why I had repair disk permissions.
Try making a new document, using a differnt document profiles to see if possibly the one you are using is corrupt.
If that does not work, try creating a new user account log in as that.

  • Software for converting powerpoint to flash on Mac OS X ?

    Dear All
Does anybody know if there is any software available for converting powerpoint presentations into flash format so that they can then be uploaded onto websites? I have seen (for windows, unfortunately) a program callled ARTICULATE PRESENTER (www.articulate.com) which is fantastic for doing this, but only the end product can be viewed with Mac rather than being able to be created with Mac.
I want to create self-study type lessons for students, in which I can record a narration at the same time that the powerpoint slides are showing their illustrations. (This is what ARTICULATE does). And that these can then be available via the internet.
Has anyone any ideas or experience with this using Mac?
Many thanks and hope to hear from many of you soon!

Actually, there is a program that will do this, and a lot more. It's called Keynote. You can import your PowerPoint files, then you can trash PowerPoint, because you'll find Keynote does everything PowerPoint does better, and it does a lot more. Including exporting your presentations in Flash, PDF, QuickTime, or back to PowerPoint, if you must.

  • How can i download a powerpoint presentation onto my mac and then work on it to make it into a video

I have an older powerpoint presentation which I now want to download to my Mac and be able to change it and make it into a video with sound and music.  Can I?

Install iWork or Microsoft PowerPoint on your Mac.

    "you have chosen to open"
    Filename.pptx
    Which is a: binary file
    from site xxxxx
would you like to save this file?
If I use Safari, the file downloads and opens Powerpoint

As posted above, Firefox versions 4 and later require a Mac with an Intel processor and no longer run on a Mac with a PowerPC processor.<br />
It says recommended, but it is now a requirement to have an Intel processor.

  • Export to PowerPoint without bullets

Whenever I run a presentation I want it without the annoying bullet blobs, so I remove these from my theme. However, when exporting to PowerPoint (2003) these bullets reappear. Is there any way to prevent this or have I got to start creating my presentations in PowerPoint again?
    Thanks in advance

    A few important things...
Leave the System/Library/Fonts folder alone, unless you really know what you're doing in there. Mess all you want in the other 3 locations, but leave that one alone (you can tank your system by removing things from that folder if you're not careful).
Also, it doesn't surprise me that some of the system fonts don't show in Fontbook, I think they're simply system level fonts that you can't normally use to type with.
Here's a quick rundown, just so you won't be confused
    System>Library>Fonts
This is the system level folder, and you should always be careful of what you remove from this folder. Don't ever add anything to this folder...heck, just forget it's there.
    Library>Fonts
This is the top level fonts folder. No matter how many users you set up on your machine, they will ALL always see this folder. On my machines, this is the folder I use for my fonts (well, now I use Font Agent Pro to manage them, so there's nothing in that folder).
    User>Library>Fonts
THis is the user fonts folder. If you have more than one user, installing fonts in one users folder means the other users won't see them. I tend to empty this folder and move those fonts into the Library>fonts folder just so I don't have overlap (which the system doesn't seem to mind though).
    hope that helps!

  • UNIX style paths on Mac OS X

The javadoc for com.adobe.ids.links.LinkOperations.getFilePath() says "Returns: The file path (colon delimited on the Mac OS). (String or File)". This means that when running on OS X I get paths like "Macintosh HD:Users:francis:Code:Bright:bluebooks:trunk:testdata:glacier.jpg", which aren't very useful when working in Java because they aren't what the Java APIs expect. For example, new java.io.File(link.getFilePath()).getName() won't work because java.io.File expects UNIX style (slash-delimited) file paths.
Is there any way of getting the linked file path as a UNIX path? Or is there a method in the InDesign API that will convert colon-delimited paths to UNIX-style paths?
    Thanks,
    Francis

yeah, this is interesting.... I'm actually connected to our university with VPN now and I wonder what the path would be for that sort of "generic" dfs folder - i'm experimenting...
It does make it look like it's possible...however I keep reading that mac os x's samba doesn't recognize dfs paths.
I've been able to bind the computers to Active Directory - that's not an issue and SMB is checked - but the dfs paths return an error - I can connect using the old UNC path - but that's not where the drives actually are/will be anymore.

  • Firefox 3.6.14 is not displaying any site styles correctly on Mac OS 10.6 with Flash Player 10.

I’ve spent some time researching this problem. These are things I’ve already tried:
    - updating Firefox, restarting browser
    - clearing cache, restarting browser
    - updating to Flash Player 10, restarting browser, clearing cache, restarting browser
    - restarting computer
    - making sure View > Page Style > Basic Page Style is checked
    - making sure no custom minimum font size is set
    - javascript is not being blocked
    - disabling addons
Note: All sites appear as normal in Safari.
    Thank you!

Thank you again, but the immediate above links did not resolve my problem. However because of the provided links, I meandered my way to a section of the support area that mentioned a file may have become corrupt in my Firefox profile. I created a new profile as suggested and the problem is solved!
[[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile| I created a new profile by following these directions.]]
Before I created the new profile, bookmarks were easily backed up through Boomarks > Organize Bookmarks and selecting the Backup option. This same menu was used to “Restore” my bookmarks by choosing the backup file and bringing it into my new profile.
Ahh... beautiful Firefox, how I’ve missed you.
