Practical differences between static IP and loopback installation
Hi,
I'm planning the installation of 10gR2 on my windows laptop at home. I can set my laptop up to use either a static or dynamic IP address before installing the db. I'm not sure which way would be best though. I'm aware that, if I use a dynamic IP/DHCP setup, then I will need to install the loopback adapter for Oracle to work properly.
Are there any practical differences between a static IP db installation versus a dynamic one? I.e. if I choose the dynamic IP/loopback adapter approach, will I still be able to connect to my laptop's database via other pc's on my home network?
My home setup looks like this.
ISP -> DSL Modem -> Router -> various PC's
I'd also like the flexibility to connect my laptop to my work's WAN and access my laptop db from my work PC. I suspect this will harder to do if I use the static IP approach.
My laptop runs Windows XP and I'm planning to install either the Enterprise Edition or Personal Edition of 10gr2. I suspect that the Personal Edition, being restircted to a single user, may refuse connections from machines other than the one it is installed on, but I'm not sure about this. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I personally prefer static IP too, what I can do with static and not dynamic is:
use the IP address in various codes and scripts specially host and batch.
you can reach the same result by using the hostname too BUT in case of windows that might be let's say not quite accurate all the time ;) specially when nslookup and DNS/WINS are drunk :))

Difference between static class and singleton?
Hi I wonder what could be the difference between static methods and singleton?
In singleton at any point of time there will be only one object existing in the JVM. We create singleton to avoid multiple object creation for that class.
If I make all the methods in the class as static also it does the same job. The memory will be allocated once. Even there wont be any object in this case, so time required for object creation also can be saved. looks like more efficient but still why need singleton?
This question is also posted in java programming forum. The thread is as follows:-

Credit Management: Difference Between Static and Dynamic Credit Check
Hi,
Could anyone tell the difference Between Static and Dynamic Credit Check?
According to website: http://www.sap-basis-abap.com/sd/difference-between-static-and-dynamic-credit-check.htm ... this is the answer:
====================
Simple Credit Check : Tr.Code - FD32
It Considers the Doc.Value + Open Items.
Doc.Value : Sales Order Has been saved but not delivered
Open Item : Sales Order has been saved , Delivered, Billed & Transfered to FI, but not received the payment from the customer.
Static Credit Check it checks all these doc value & check with the credit limit
1) Open Doc.Value / Sales Order Value : Which is save but not delievered
2) Open Delivery Doc.Value : Which is delivered but not billed
3) Open Billing Doc.Value : Which is billed but not posted to FI
4) Open Item : Which is transfered to FI but not received from the customer.
Dynamic Credit Check 1) Open Doc
2) Open Delivery
3) Open Billing
4) Open Items
5) Horizon Period = Eg.3Months
Here the System will not consider the above 1, 2, 3 & 4 values for the lost 3 months.
====================
Question 1: Could you further explain the above information, if there is any?
Question 2:: What is the Tcode to customize settings of:
a) Simple Credit Check (isn't this same with b) below?)
b) Static Credit Check
c) Dynamic Credit CheckHi Tanish,
Diff between Static and Dynamic Filters.
Example One at report Level.
Create a variable for a Infoobject say ,Material .
1)In the Query Designer and if u restrict it to some 10 materials at query level, the report will display for only those 10 materials only. This is Static Filter.UR AHrdcoding it to those materials. You cant change them at Query Run time.i.e not changeable by user.
2)If u give the variable as input ,and when u run the query ,u can can choose the material, may 10 may be 1 or may 20 .It is dynamic.Changeable by user at run time
Example Two at DTP and Start Routine Level, say Document Type.
1)If u give filters in Start routine it is Static as u cannot change it in Production, not changeable by user.
2)f u give filters in DTP it is Dyanamic as u can change it in Production.U can give any doc type,Changeable by user at run time.
Hope it is Understood.

Difference between STATIC and FLOW CONTROL in IKM
Hello,
Can someone explain the difference between STATIC and FLOW control in IKM ? What is the best situation to use them with some example ?
Can we have more than one ODI Constraint at the target table.
Thanks
Edited by: cdmnagaraj on 19-Oct-2008 21:59Hi Nagaraj,
Suppose your Lookup table -> column "VALUE" is 101.
How many rows in your source table (column) have "Balance" = 101 ??
I hope only One.
From your Source table all the recors will be moved to your I$ . then from your I$ it will check for the condition
and all the violated records will be moved to your E$
please check your "Insert CK Errors" from your operator
it will be like this....
insert into E$_TargetTable
ERR_TYPE,
ERR_MESS,
CHECK_DATE,
ORIGIN,
CONS_NAME,
CONS_TYPE,
col1,
col2,
balance
select
'F',
sysdate,
'(3367100)TESTPROJECTS.TestTable',
'conditionTest',
'CK',
col1,
col2,
balance
from I$_TargetTable CHI
where not (
Balance = (Select value from LOOKUP)
So in your case it will check for balance not equal to 101 . and it will push those records into your E$ table

The difference between system restore and last good known configuration
hi,
what is the difference between system restore and last good known configuration.
in which situation you use system restore ,and in which situation you use last good known configuration.
very short answer wil be enough.
thanks
johan
h.davidLast Known Good Configuration deals only with Starting Windows eg. a bad registry or incorrect driver is preventing Windows to start. It recovers the registry settings of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet
While System Restore uses restore points to return your system files and settings to an earlier point in time without affecting personal files. Restore points are created automatically every week, and just before significant system events, such as the installation
of a program or device driver. You can also create a restore point manually. You can undone system restore but there is no such option in Last Known Good Configuration.
Last Known Good Configuration is disabled in Windows 8 or,Windows 8.1 by default.
Try using Last Known Good Configuration if you can't start Windows, but it started correctly the last time you turned on the computer.
Try using System Restore to return the system to an earlier point in time when things worked correctly.

Difference between primary eindex and secondary index?
hi experts
pls answer me
difference between primary eindex and secondary index?
rewads apply.
thanks.
naresh.hi,
check this link.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/cf/21eb2d446011d189700000e8322d00/frameset.htm
A difference is made between Primary & Secondary indexes to a table. the primary index consists of the key fields of the table and a pointer to the non-keys-fields of the table. The Primary index is generated automatically when a table is created and is created in the datebase as the same times as the table. It is also possible to define further indexes to a table in the ABAP/4 dictionary, which are then referred to as Secondary indexes.
Always it is not mandatory that an index should have all the key fields of a table. To see the index of a table
goto SE11->specify table name->click on the indexes... button on the application toolbar.
Based on your requirement you can you any of those index fields in the where clause of your query. Always its a better practice to use the index fields in the order specified. While selecting the records from a table it is always better to select the fields in the same order as specified in the table. -
Difference between null string and empty string??
what is the major difference between null string and an empty string??
I wrote the following simple program and I could see some different output.
Other than that, any other differences that we should pay attention to???
C:\>java TestCode
Hello
nullHello
public class TestCode
public static void main(String[] s)
{ String s1 = "";
String s2 = null;
System.out.println(s1 + "Hello");
System.out.println(s2 + "Hello");
}The difference is that an empty String is just empty but a null String has no value (i.e. it is not instantiated) this has signifigance since all Strings are objects.

What's difference between JPanel.remove(); and JPanel = null

then works as well as JPanel.remove or JPanel = null,
or what and why preferred to avoid some action (to avoid to remove or to avoid to null)mKorbel wrote:

What is the difference between list display and grid display in alv report
Hai genious
i am a new of the abap, i dont know the alv report, i have a small doubt, can u please tell me what is the main difference between list display and grid display in alv report
thanks®ards
chinnuHi ,
1. For all practical purposes, they are the same.
2. Some differences:
a) from abap coding point of view,
alv list is done with Function modules,
alv gris can also be done with FM,
but can also be done using OO concepts.
b) Alv grid (using oo concept) requires
designing the screen layout .
Hence, in one screen, we can show more
then one alv grid
(we cannot show more than
one alv list on one screen)
c) ALV grid uses ActiveX controls
present on the Presentation Server.
Hence, it consumes More Memory
on the presentation server.
d) ALV LIST is Display Only.
Whereas
ALV Grid Can Be made EDITABLE for entry purpose.
e) In alv grid, these options are possible,
but not in alv list.
without horizontal lines
without vertical lines
without cell merging during sorts
display total lines above the entries
I hope it helps.

Mamta

Difference between datatype NUMBER and NUMBER(38)
Difference between datatype NUMBER and NUMBER(38)
From
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/sql_elements001.htm#i54330
NUMBER Datatype
The NUMBER datatype stores zero as well as positive and negative fixed numbers with absolute values from 1.0 x 10-130 to (but not including) 1.0 x 10126. If you specify an arithmetic expression whose value has an absolute value greater than or equal to 1.0 x 10126, then Oracle returns an error. Each NUMBER value requires from 1 to 22 bytes.
Specify a fixed-point number using the following form:
NUMBER(p,s)
where:
p is the precision, or the total number of significant decimal digits, where the most significant digit is the left-most nonzero digit, and the least significant digit is the right-most known digit. Oracle guarantees the portability of numbers with precision of up to 20 base-100 digits, which is equivalent to 39 or 40 decimal digits depending on the position of the decimal point.
s is the scale, or the number of digits from the decimal point to the least significant digit. The scale can range from -84 to 127.
Positive scale is the number of significant digits to the right of the decimal point to and including the least significant digit.
Negative scale is the number of significant digits to the left of the decimal point, to but not including the least significant digit. For negative scale the least significant digit is on the left side of the decimal point, because the actual data is rounded to the specified number of places to the left of the decimal point. For example, a specification of (10,-2) means to round to hundreds.
Scale can be greater than precision, most commonly when e notation is used. When scale is greater than precision, the precision specifies the maximum number of significant digits to the right of the decimal point. For example, a column defined as NUMBER(4,5) requires a zero for the first digit after the decimal point and rounds all values past the fifth digit after the decimal point.
It is good practice to specify the scale and precision of a fixed-point number column for extra integrity checking on input. Specifying scale and precision does not force all values to a fixed length. If a value exceeds the precision, then Oracle returns an error. If a value exceeds the scale, then Oracle rounds it.
Specify an integer using the following form:
NUMBER(p)
This represents a fixed-point number with precision p and scale 0 and is equivalent to NUMBER(p,0).
Specify a floating-point number using the following form:
NUMBER
The absence of precision and scale designators specifies the maximum range and precision for an Oracle number.
And
2
NUMBER[(precision [, scale]])
Number having precision p and scale s. The precision p can range from 1 to 38. The scale s can range from -84 to 127

Difference between Seeburger FTP and OFTP adapters
hi,
Can anybody tell me the difference between Seeburger FTP and OFTP adapters?
On what basis should one make a business decision as to which adapter to go for?
Kindly help urgently.
Regards,
LoveenaHi ! Loveena
Seeburger EDI Adapter provides an EDI solution on internet via HTTP or AS2 to replace the expensive VAN. It provides some pre-built mappings for IDOC to ANSI X12(810,850,855,856 etc.,) and Idoc to EDIFACT(ORDERS,DESADV,INVOIC etc.,) and has the ability to build your own. These pre-defined mappings transform the IDOC-XML to EDI-XML format.
Seeburger Adapters are used to Connect the applications which are using Message protocol/Transport protocol as CrossIndustry(payment), VAN, OFTP, AS2(EDIINT), Generic and EDI based applications.

OFTP ist a communication protocol. This has nothing to do with the format you have to transfer.
regards the format you have to clear at which standard you have to transfer the messages. This can be any EDI format. At OFTP area the standard are often VDA or ODETTE.
You can create this messages using different EDI adapters (of course also the mendelson adapter ).
Regards OFTP you need additional software which handle the transfer based on the OFTP standard. Mostly you also need an ISDN card for using this protocol.
We can support you with this software for OFTP transport too.
More info also available at http://www.mendelson-e-c.com/.
have a look at the ACTIS OFTP Adapter

Practical Differences between types of routines....
Hi ,
Which are the practical differences between :
1) a function so as to return a value/data set....
2) a procedure which defines an OUT parameter so as to return a value/data set....Thanks ,
SimonPerformance is another aspect that at times can play a role.
A function passes a value from one stack to another stack - reference by value. This means the result of the function is copied from the function's stack to the caller's stack when the function terminates and its stack is popped.
A procedure can use reference by name (pointers). In this case the output of the procedure's parameter is written directly into the variable of the caller. No copying.
When the parameter is large (think CLOBs for example), a function returning a CLOB can be significantly slower that a procedure with a IN OUT NOCOPY CLOB parameter.
