Pre installed lion repair without Internet connection

Hello
I am having a nightmare, Purchased a brand spanking new 27inch with Lion pre - installed three weeks ago,I like to reinstall to get rid of Garageband and such that I dont need or use, to do this you need to use Recovery HD and then it will reinstall without those mentioned and it will allow you to download them via appstore if and when you want to put them on, fine, however if you have intermitant broadband issues like I and many others have or no broadband at all you are screwed!!!  if something bad happens and you need to reinstall and have no internet connection how the **** are you supposed to repair, I spoke with a chap from applecare who understood my predicament, who expalined the following if such a case arises:
1. Take it to a friend who as a internet connection so it can download the lion to be repaired or reinstalled .
2. Take it to a apple re seller to so it can download the lion to be repaired or reinstalled .
3. To burn a copy to a USB to run lion from???
4. Check the internet for alternative methods to create a thumb drive.
Great stuff hey : )...
I explained to him that the Mac had cost me around £1500 so at least I should have the option of downloading a copy from the app store so I could burn to usb, I was told I should be able to do this but then got back to a day later to explain that because it was pre installed I dont have it on my app store account and I only have the Hidden Recovery Partion that needs the internet.
I dont know about you guys but I like to have my own copy to repair and install if any scenario arises, let's say I live in the country and have no internet connection and my mac suddenly stops working, what I would do on my old mac is to boot to dvd and repair or reinstall, not a option here I am afraid, because if you dont have a internet connection you cannot repair. I was told I can either buy a copy from the app store and then burn to USB or order the Lion on a USB thumb drive thus costing more money, it's the principal of paying for Lion when they should allow you to download it free from your account as you have paid for the system in the cost of the Imac.
Below are the ways of making a thumb drive that involves purchasing Lion to begin with:
Option 1: Put a full bootable Lion installation on the USB Drive with a recovery partition.
What you need: an 8G thumb drive and OS X Lion from the App Store.
What you get: A USB stick you can boot off and repair your Lion installation from.
Download the Lion installer from Apple App Store. DO NOT INSTALL IT ONTO YOUR COMPUTER OR THE INSTALLER WILL DELETE ITSELF. MAKE A COPY OF THE INSTALLER.  If you have already installed it and it has deleted itself,  go back into the App store and click on ‘purchases’ and next to Lion it will say ‘Installed’. Now option-click on ‘purchases’ and ‘installed’ will change to ‘install’ so that you can re-download the installer.
Format your Thumbdrive using a GUID Partition Table, and ‘ Mac OS Extended (Journaled)’, then you can run the Lion installer and install Lion onto the thumb drive.
More info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Option 2: Create a Lion Recovery Disk.
You’ll only need a 4G USB Drive for this option.
What you get: A USB stick you can repair your Lion installation from, but not run Lion from.
If your Macintosh has an existing Lion Recovery partition (this will be the case if Lion came pre-installed on your machine when you purchased your computer from Apple), you can use this method. It will not be a full installer but it will use the internet to install Lion onto another computer. It involves downloading a program from apple called ‘Lion Recovery Disk Assistant’
More info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433
To test if you have a Lion recovery partition, Just hold down Command-R during startup and Lion will give you the option of going into recovery mode if the recovery partition is there.
Option 3: Make a Lion Installation USB Thumb drive like the one you buy from Apple.
What you get: A USB stick you can install Lion from – like the one that comes from Apple.
You’ll need an 8G USB thumbdrive.
1. Purchase and download the Lion Installer via the App store as in Option 1 above.
2. Right-click on the installer and select “Show Package Contents” and find  the file called  ”InstallESD.dmg” in the SharedSupport folder.
3. Use Disk Utility to ‘Restore’ this dmg file to a thumb drive to make a Lion Installation USB drive like you buy from the Apple Store. (the thumb drive must first be formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with GUID Partition Table.)
What are your opinions on this, please don't have a go, I am pointing out a flaw and a bloody great at that in my opinion.
Cheers
J

By the way I am not having a go at Apple just pointing out a scenario I am going through at the moment and if anyone else is having the same issue, and I am aware that you dont need to reinstal Lion to trash Garageband, I would like to know your thoughts and alternatives apart from the ones mentioned above.
Cheers Peeps

It sounds noobish but my friends like to know if they can install Arch Linux without Internet connection ?

The core iso should be all you need, just boot off that to start the installation. It's been a while since I did an install, but somewhere along the way it gives you an option to install off the cd or do a net install. You just need to choose the cd installation.
That being said, all you'll have without internet will be what's on the cd, so you'll be left with a pretty minimal install. If you want to update and install additional software then you'll either need to get the computer temporarily  connected, or download the packages on a different computer and transfer them.
I am looking to do something similar. I have the core system installed on an older laptop, but I cannot get the wireless working (it has no ethernet). I've tried downloading the libgl packagesfrom a mirror to a thumbdrive, but it's a dependency nightmare. Is there a better way to do this?

  • How do i get Lion OS without internet connection?

i Have a cousin that lives in the desert with out any internet connection and would like to get Lion OS, How do i get it to him?
Can i buy it Downloaded it and burn it to a disk and send it to him? Its kinda weird that apple assumes everyone has internet connection
    Thanks for the help

You probably could be able to do that, it would be difficult but you should be able to. I agree, it is kinda sill what Apple thought.

  • Install 2nd instance of Arch Linux without internet connection

I have successfully install a first instance of Arch Linux using Arch Linux ISO + pacstrap + pacman with internet connection.
I have updated to latest package database list (/var/lib/pacman/sync) and package cache files (/var/cache/pacman/pkg) in first instance of Arch Linux with "pacman -Swyu".
Next, I would like to install 2nd instance of Arch Linux without using internet connection.
I share the "/var/lib/pacman/sync" and "/var/cache/pacman/pkg" via NFS from first Arch Linux instance.
I boot the 2nd instance with Arch Linux ISO and attempt to install without internet connection.  I mount the two NFS shares from 1st instance to "/var/cache/pacman/pkg" and "/mnt/var/lib/pacman/sync" respectively.  I execute
       # pacstrap -i -c /mnt"
    to start installation.
I found it is almost impossible with current implementation of pacstrap script.  The pacstrap script always attempt to update package database list with -Sy option.
I think some amendments on pacstrap script is needed to install Arch Linux without internet connection.

I made the edit by adding the option -o to do what you want.
I am too lazy for a feature request right now...
    #!/bin/bash
    # Assumptions:
    # 1) User has partitioned, formatted, and mounted partitions on /mnt
    # 2) Network is functional
    # 3) Arguments passed to the script are valid pacman targets
    # 4) A valid mirror appears in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

hello , i have a MacBook Pro 13 , and i want to reinstall my mavericks but i search on the internet and i see that it download it and install it aftert it format the hardisk and begin to install the mavericks . the problem is that i don't have fast connection and maybe the electric turn of in sometimes . i afred that my connection lost in the installing proceser ,  i need a way that i can install the mavricks without internet connection . ,

You need to be connected to the internet or a WiFi, which will then connect, so you can download the installer:OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X

  • If I download Mountain Lion on my MBP , can I use the same installer file on a different computer and continue the installation without Internet connectivity?

    Hi Folks,
I have just downloaded Mountain lion on my  Macbook Pro(haven't installed it yet) . My question is, can I copy the same downloaded Mountain Lion from the Applications on to an external hard drive and use the same on a different computer? I am having problems with internet connectivity right now, it would be amazing if it can be installed on the iMac without internet connection.
    So is that doable?
    Thanks in advance

And the 2nd installation would not require internet connectivity? Except , of course during the set up and the configuration of iCloud and location based services, which I can skip at the time

  • Failing to install Domain Services on a Windows 2012R2 without internet connection

    Hello
i have a windows 2012r2 server without internet connection.
when i try to add the Domain Services role it failed in the Feature installation phase
i even tried to provide an alternate location from a ISO source but that didn't help either
im lost here what should i do?
    i attached the fail screenshot
    Thanks
    Guy

What error is shown in Event Viewer when the install fails?
Is it the first 2012 R2 DC in a lower level domain?
    Try installing ADDS via PowerShell:
    Import-Module ServerManager
    Install-windowsfeature -name AD-Domain-Services –IncludeManagementTools
The other thing that it could be is an issue with the WID (Windows Internal Database)
Check in the Event Viewer for anything to do with Service: MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID and perhaps try this:
Adjust your domain (or domain controller if appropriate) security policy to allow “NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID” to log on as a service, a GPO setting that can be found under Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings
    > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment.
    Kind Regards

  • Installing Arch on PC without Internet Connection/Slow Connection

Arch Linux requires a fairly good internet connection to set up. How can one install it on machines which don't have any internet connectivity? Is there any way to make a DVD of Arch on a computer connected to internet and having Arch setup(DE,Media Players,Codecs etc) which can then be used on machines without internet connections This would come useful for me to install at my friends place. Does anyone even has a remote solution on this?

    and, of course:

You could also install on a computer with a connection, then use something like Clonezilla to deploy it.

  • I want to re-install my Pre-Installed Lion Macbook Pro, but I can't get the Lion OS from App Store with my Apple ID. Please help, thanks!

Hi, I want to do a clean re-installation of my end 2011 Macbook Pro which comes with pre-installed Lion OS. I go through the installation steps and after App Store verified my Apple ID, it prompted me that I did not purchase the Lion OS. I am very surprise to see this message which my pre-installed Lion Macbook Pro should have it. Please help and advise how can I get the OS? All other bundle softwares were in the purchase record except the Lion OS.

That was my mistake - sorry - it IS Command-R to boot to the Recovery disk, not Command-D: I either just hit the wrong key or am just now coming awake from my nap.
Let me see if I can just explain it in a few steps - I don't know of any link (but it would make a good User Tip):
Create an up-to-the minute back-up of your internal hard drive using an external hard drive and Time Machine.
Boot to your recovery partion - holding down Command-R on boot.
Use Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD - use one GUID partition and format as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Unless you're selling the machine, there's no need to do a secure erase (which can take hours).
After you erase the disk, re-install Lion from the same Recovery partition.
After installation is complete, reboot, again holding down the Command-R keys to boot into the Recovery Partition.
Restore your Time Machine back-up. This could take several hours.
Reboot after restore and you're back in business.
That should take care of everything - all you need is an Internet connection.
Call back if I didn't explain things too well - at least I got the Command-R right this time!

Music is not included in the backup (and nor are films or tv shows), only the contents of third-party apps are included. Did you not do File > Transfer Purchases when connected to your computer's iTunes to copy your iTunes purchases over, and/or have you not got a backup copy of your music somewhere e.g. on an external drive ?

I have Labview 8.0 installed on a NI PXI-1050 chasis with Windows XP and Service Pack 2 installed.  The problem is that Labview will not load up (it locks up at finishing initialization) if I do not have the chasis connected to the internet via ethernet connection.  When I connect to the internet and reboot the computer, Labview is able to start fine.  The chasis is installed in a mobile vechicle and cannot always be connected to the internet.  I've read that Labview 8 needs to connect to the internet to make sure the copy it is running is legitimate?  Is this copy protection messing me up?  Is there a way to run Labview 8 without internet connection?
    Thanks.

Where did you read this? There's an initial activation that you do when you first install LabVIEW. but there's no "phone home" each time you launch LabVIEW. I can start up LabVIEW without an internet connection.
More than likely what's causing it are services that run and/or MAX. Software firewalls installed on a computer can block this communication even it's happening on a loopback, but you said that the problem goes away once you connect to the internet, so it's likely not a firewall issue. Is the PXI chassis normally connected directly to the internet through a modem, or is it connected to a router (when it's connected)? Are you using a static IP address on your PXI chassis?

But all our SAP systems (including SAP Solution Manager especially) are in closed network area and have not internet connection. As a result we cannot use SAP Maintain Optimizer to calculate and prepare installation sofware stack for SAPEHPI procedure.
Can we prepare this installation software stack file manually?
Can we install EHP4 without internet connection at all?

Hi, thank you for answer, Sunny.
But it's not very good news
May be I can use xml-stack file from other sap erp system which has the same version and patch level?
Theoretically I can just do some correcting (i.e. change system attributes) in this file and then put it for SAPEHPI tool. Is it possible?

Hi, I am new to this forum and also not familiar with simulation in virtualbox. I want to know how to simulate server 2012+clients connection in virtualbox without internet connection. I couldn't join the client computer (windows 7 installed) to
the domain (the  windows server 2012). I already added the DHCP , AD DS and DNS roles features in the windows server 2012. Can someone put me through?

If you're using VirtualBox you might be better off asking this over on their forum
https://forums.virtualbox.org/, since it's not a Microsoft product. That said I have used it myself, and I think what you need is to ensure you're using the Internal Networking option
http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#network_internal and make sure that both virtual machines have their network card setup with the same name / network ID. Once that's done you
can configure them on the same network range and they should be able to communicate.
