Predict database growth feature in 11G

Hi experts
pardon me if I am not correct, I believe in 10G there was a feature where we can predict the growth how much the database will grow and allocate space to the tablespace
In 11G do we have the same feature in OEM, I am using OEM after a long time and need some advice on this
thanks

Yet another option is to use the metrics data stored in the OEM repository and build your own forecasting procedure. That approach is probably a bit more involved compared to some of the other options, but it will give you exactly what you want. Note that Oracle RDBMS has number of build-in statistics functions, so you would rarely need to write your own statistical function.
You can check my presentation (NYOUG , VirtaThon) - http://iiotzov.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/iotzov_oem_repository.pdf . One of the examples is specifically about forecasting tablespace/database size.

  • How to determine database growth for new B1 instalation

    Hello B1 people,
I'm working on the capacity planning of my new business one project and must know how to determine database growth. Does anyone did something like that before?
    Wich tables should I consider?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Gabriel,
I think it is difficult to make any predictions about database growth because this depends on the volume of your business transactions, the number of users, the continuity of your master data...
For example a small number of users can create a lot of transactions (accounting, logistics) with big documents like sales orders with more than 100 items, or a lot of users who primarily look up things but only create small transaction won't create too much data and thus influence database growth in totally different ways.
You should collect information about the volume of daily business to make any forecasts.
If you start with an empty database, the first big growth will be when you upload your master data, but if only few business transactions follow, you shouldn't use that first increase for your calculation.
Is this your very first B1 installation, or do you already have B1 systems running? If you use the EWA service on a running B1 installation on a regular basis, then you will get a good impression of database growth and transaction volume but you should only use this as a basis for your calculation if the business of the new installation is similar to already running company's.
    Hope that helps,
    Sandra

  • 10g Primary database work with a 11g Standby database

Can a 10g Primary database work with a 11g Standby database?
The existing database is Oracle 10g and I don't want to upgrade it. But I really need the Real-time Query feature of 11g Physical Standby Database.
    Can they work together?

    Hi,
    do you have any proof?
I never find any proof in Oracle Docs.Kindly refer to doc's and check things it states Primary and Standby Servers Versions must be same - similar to that you can find very much clear. That is more than enough for proof else Test it you will find your self...;-).

  • Compress for all operation is New feature of 11g????

hey to all i'm going to create a table with compress option i used "COMPRESS FOR ALL OPERATIONS" IT does not create table using 10g and when i connect to 11g it create a table
i read the documentation of 11g managing table but this option is not very well elaborate there plz tell me the difference b/w compress and compress for all operation and either compress for all is supported in 10g or not
feel free to ask any question
    regards adeel

Table compression was available in 10g as well.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_7002.htm#i2128733
but "COMPRESS FOR ALL OPERATIONS" is new feature in 11g and the description for the same is self-explanatory.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_7002.htm#i2128733
    <quote>
    * When you enable table compression by specifying either COMPRESS or COMPRESS FOR DIRECT_LOAD OPERATIONS, Oracle Database attempts to compress data during direct-path INSERT operations when it is productive to do so. The original import utility (imp) does not support direct-path INSERT, and therefore cannot import data in a compressed format.
    * When you enable table compression by specifying COMPRESS FOR ALL OPERATIONS, Oracle Database attempts to compress data during all DML operations on the table.

As part of the upgrade, you might research how new Oracle 11g features can help your system run better.
Your upgraded system can effectively start using extended statistics, a very powerful new 11g feature, immediately after the upgrade. I have a detailed blog post on how to do this with OEM - http://iiotzov.wordpress.com/2011/11/01/get-the-max-of-oracle-11gr2-right-from-the-start-create-relevant-extended-statistics-as-a-part-of-the-upgrade

  • Not able to create a database link using the database gateway of oracle 11g

    HI,
While trying to create a database link to SQL server from Oracle ,using the database gateway provided with 11g, i am getting the following error while making use of it in selecting columns from tables :

    ORA-02063: preceding line from DBLINK
These are the steps i have followed for setting up:
1.Ran the set up for the Database gateway.and mentioned the SQL server name and database .ALos set up a listener.
    2. Added the following in the Listener.ora of Oraclehome 11/NETWORK/ADMIN:
    LISTENER_SQL_FCD =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =localhost) (PORT = 1541)

    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
    5. Created the database link :
    create database link dblink
connect to "sa" identified by "<pswd>"
    using 'dg4msql'
On running :select * from test1@dblink i get the following error:
Error starting at line 1 in command:
    select * from test1@dblink
    Error at Command Line:1 Column:20
    Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-28513: internal error in heterogeneous remote agent
    ORA-02063: preceding line from DBLINK
Is there any issue with the set or definition that I get the above error?

What is the version of the Oracle database in which you have specified/and use the database link?
If it is for example 10.2.0.3.0 you need to apply the mandatory patch for RDBMS bug 5965763 first before being able to use an 11g gateway. Have a look at MetaLink note 457808.1 for details about this patch.

  • Polling from the database view in BPEL 11g

    Hi,
We do have a requirement of polling from the database view in BPEL 11g. I am exploring the following polling strategies in our case:
    - Delete
    - Logical Delete
In case of Delete polling strategy, can we delete the record as the view does not allow deletion. In this case, do we have any other way to achieve this functionality?
In case of Logical Delete, We have to mark the status column with particular value. how could we achieve the same when the view is not updateable.
In 10g, we can override the delete polling strategy with an update statement. Is it possible in 11g?
    Thanks & Regards

The docs says I need to add an Outbound Connection Pool to to SOA DbAdaptor in WebLogic. The problem is I can’t seem to make my changes take effect. This is the same error recorded here:
    BPEL DB adapter
The problem is when trying to change the property, xADataSourceName, the changes don’t take effect. I also notice that in our test environment I get a dialog box to change the deployment plan. On my local WLS, I don’t get this dialog box. Either way the changes to xADataSourceName will not take effect.
There must be a simple solution, I just don’t see it.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you enter the xADataSourceName property, did you hit enter on the field? If you simply tab off the field and hit save changes without hitting the enter key then it doesn't record the change to the property.

    Dear All,
How to monitor the database growth in SAP.
Is there any t.code available to check the same.
    advance thanks,

Note: suitable answers will get maximum reward points.

    Hai,
You can check the database growth using tcode -db02.
and also use tcode-db02old(if the SAP is Netweaver2004s version)  and click on space statistics for monitoring the datbase growth,

  • Write Back feature in 11g environment

    Hi,
I am trying to implement write back feature in 11g environment.
i have configured RPD as mentioned below-
    in physical layer- non cacheable,
in BMM- enable write back checkbox,
in Presentation layer read/write property for field,
in report i have checked write back box for column.
I have created xml file for the column to be edited.
But i am not able to locate where i need to mention this xml file name.
Please let me know where i need to mention the xml file name and where i need to place the file.

Can you confirm that you have done ALL of the following:
-Make sure you use columnIDs as opposed to column position in the XML template
-Use Schema prefix on the table column
-Ensure WebMessage name on XML template matches the EXACT name in Table View Properties
-Ensure Physical table is non cacheable
-Presentation and Logical layer must have Write enabled for the writeback columns
-If we dont need an INPUT command make sure to have a space between the XML tags
I dont have access to a writeback file currently..if you can paste yours here, maybe we can help.
Also, if the responses are helpful, please mark them as helpful or correct.

  • How to set default database selection in forms 11g

    Hello,
In the past (Forms 10g), we could set the default database by setting userid=@dbname in formsweb.cfg.
We have migrated to Forms 11g.
When we set this parameter, we have the message ORA-01017 Invalid Username but the dbname is well set in the connection windows.
Unfortunately, it generates an error message.
How can we set the default database setting in forms 11g?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

If the middle tier platform is Windows set LOCAL to the db name in the Forms default.env. If the platform is Unix based, set TWO_TASK to the db name in the default.env. This will not prefill the db name field, but with this in place that field can be left empty. Alternatively, you need to create your own custom logon dialog.
    Example:
    LOCAL=dbname
    Or on Unix
    TWO_TASK=dbname

  • How to check Database Growth for a DB on ASM?

    Hi there
I have been using the following script to check the database growth (for DBs on Filesystem):
    SELECT b.tsname tablespace_name ,

      FROM
        (SELECT TO_CHAR(sp.begin_interval_time,'MM-DD-YYYY') days ,
          ts.tsname ,
          MAX(ROUND((tsu.tablespace_usedsize* dt.block_size )/(1024*1024),2)) used_size_mb
        FROM dba_hist_tbspc_space_usage tsu ,

        GROUP BY TO_CHAR(sp.begin_interval_time,'MM-DD-YYYY'),
          ts.tsname
        ORDER BY ts.tsname,
          days
        ) a
      ) b
    GROUP BY b.tsname
ORDER BY b.tsname; And I think it always gave me good results until I ran this script on a DB (10.2.0.5) on ASM.
Is it because databases on ASM are maintaied differently OR is it that most proabbly there has been no activity on this database in the last 7 days? I even ran this query for last 90/180-days and it still returned me following results:
    TABLESPACE_NAME                CUR_USED_SIZE_MB AVG_INCREAS_MB
    SYSAUX                                   574.38            .36
    SYSTEM                                   514.69              0
    DATA                                    1593.25              0
    IDX                                         .06              0
    UNDOTBS1                                  69.06          -3.84
    USERS                                     96.13              0Thanks in advance!

I have no reason to believe tablespaces under ASM are maintained differently, so the most likely explanation is change in DB activity.
What is your AWR retention? The default is 7 days, so if yours is set at the default then running the query for 90/180 days would not give you more information.
If you want to get useful output from your scripts, you might need to adjust the AWR retention and your SYSAUX tablespace respectively.
If the DB is monitored by Oracle Enterprise Manager(OEM), you can do tablespace forecasting based on the metrics collected by OEM. I did a presentation about this (NYOUG,VirtaThon) a while back:
