Preferred way of Data load in Essbase Using EAS or EIS

Hi
I am into designing new Essbase Cubes (ASO). Currently the process being followed is that we make a Metadata Model with Dummy Fact table and then create a MetaOutline and then finally outline from EIS and then Load data using MaxL and rules files through EAS,
But I am wondering why don't I do all this from EIS.
Can any of you provide me with some pros and Cons of loading data using EIS??
Thanks in advance!!
DJ

One advantage of using MAxL with load rules is you have more control over the process and SQL that is created.I will agree with what Glenn said that we will have more control over the process if we use EAS as we are provided with the MaxL which is a fully equipped automation language with effective error capturing mechanism when tightly integrated with shell or vbscript.
At the same time EIS is also effective for the ASO applications which are full refersh.
If we design and develop the custom relational star schema by defining the joins and relations to feed the EIS OLAP Model, we can eliminate the unnecesary errors and can provide efficiency also.
Main advantage of EIS is HOLAP solution.

Can we load data in parallel from 2 files into the same cube using 2 different rules files? Or do we have to load one file at a time?
    Could someone clarify this?

I do not believe that by selecting two data files and two load rules in AAS you are getting parrallel data loading. If you look at the log, you will find them to be sequential. For ASO cubes, AAS loads the data into a buffer then applies it. The only real parrallel data loading is using multiple threads for one file. Othere than that is it sequential

    Regards,

We are having a similar problem. We're using the IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA) knowledge module. We are mapping the actual data to the field called 'Data' in the model. But it kicks everything out saying 'Unknown Member [Data] in Data Load', as if it's trying to read that field as a dimension member. We can't see what we missed in building the interface. I would think the knowledge module would just know that the Data field is, um, data; not a dimension member. Has anyone else encountered this?

  • Data load into Essbase (append instead of overwrite)

    Hello,
We are loading data from oracle table to target Essbase cube. How do we handle ODI data load to append instead of overwrite last value?
Ex: We have data source with M:1 mapping, so we incoporated case statement [Case when Group A, B, C then D] is there a setting in ODI that allows data to append (add) instead of overwriting?
Currently, the data value in C is loaded into D instead of A+B+C into D.
    Thanks.

You can put the CASE WHEN in the target mapping and still use a load rule, a load rule does not have anything to do with what you do in the target mappings.

  • Data load in Essbase ASO cube

    Hi,
I have not been using ASO cube before and had worked only on BSO cubes. Now I have a requirement to create a rule file to load data in to an ASO Essbase cube. I have created a data load rule file as I was creating for a BSO cube which is correctly validating. However when I am doing the data load I am getting following warning:
"Aggregate storage applications ignore update to derived cells. [480] cells skipped"
I have investigated further and found that ASO cube does not allow data loading at upper levels & on members calculated through formulas. After this I have ensured that I am loading the data in to zero level members and members which are not calculated through formula. But still I am not able to do the data load & getting the same warning.
Could you please help me and let me know if there is anything else which I am missing here?
    Thanks in advance...
    AKW

    Hi AKW,
"Aggregate storage applications ignore update to derived cells. [480] cells skipped"This is only a warning message that means only those many cells were skipped might be for some reasons like any member pointing to those cells will be missing.
If you want to copy the Data of your BSO cube to an ASO Application why dont you use an PARTIONING it will copy your whole data from BSO to ASO (If Outline is common in both then copy any member of Sparse dimension like "Scenario 1" from Source i.e. BSO, to same member like "Scenario 1" in Target i.e ASO ),
This is only an alternate wayThanks

  • Problem in data loading in 0PM_DS05 using data source 0PM_MEASUREMENT

    Hi Gurus,
I have to load data in OPM_DS05 ODS using 0PM_MEASUREMENT data source.
Now the problem what I am facing is, there is a field equipment number which was there in data source but not mapped to infoobject then I mapped that field
EQUNR(R3 field) to 0EQUIPMENT(BI infobject) after this  when I try to load data error is comming and when I check the dump I understand that there is some routine written in update rules which refers master data of 0EQUIPMENT thus what I got is I have to load master data first then the ODS but when I load master data then request is not comming in the ATTRIBUTES 0EQUIPMENT.
I am using 0EQUIPMENT_ATTR data source to load data to 0EQUIPMENT.
Please help me out from the situation what should I do and also suggest whether it is necessary to load master data for 0EQUIPMENT.
    Your efforts will be appreciated.

    Hi,
in generally it is always a good idea to load the master data first. In your case there are still some questions.
    a) did you activate the master data after loading?
    b) what kind of short dump are you getting while loading the transactional data?
    c) what is the routine doing?
I guess your loading issues are more related to the routine than anything else.

  • Query regarding Metadata load in Essbase using rule file

    Hi
In our application,we are  loading metadata using Essbase rule file and  here we are facing one problem.Suppose we have to load a level 0 member called "xxxx" under two different parent, assume the parent members are Parent_AAAA and Parent_BBBB.But our requirement is the consolidation operator for the first occurrence ( i.e under Parent_AAAA)  is "+" and for the shared member under Parent_BBBB is "-".But,when we are loading using rule file the consolidation operator for the shared member always being loaded as "+".Is there any trick to change the consolidation operator for shared member other than  changing it manually in outline?
    Pls help....Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is a way to change the default setting.
However, what you can do is  to have a different load rule and different text file with only the metadata that you want to have an exception for shared members. That way, you can achieve it as you do not have to change the existing rule file.

  • Time dependent data load to BW using Fixed Time Interval selection

    Hi,
I'm facing a problem in extracting time-dependent master data to BW. I would really appreciate if anyone can help in this regard.
We have a table in R/3 which has time-dependent data. For example, for a single OBJID we could have multiple records with different BEGDA/ENDDA and different attributes. When we try to load this data into BW InfoObject, we see a time-dependent data selection in update tab of infopackage. We need to select BEGDA/ENDDA in datasource since otherwise during loads we would get a "DUPLICATE RECORDS" load error in BW.
The problem is when we enter a Fixed-time interval Start Data and End Date in the InfoPackage, only the records with that StartDate and EndDate are loaded. Ideally I would want to see all the records whose BEGDA/ENDDA falls in the range of StartDate and EndDate.
I tried modifying the ROOSFIELD table for the data source. I made the BEGDA SELOPTS as GE(16) and ENNDA SELOPTS as LE(64). But still it doesn't seem to work. I checked if the change to ROOSFIELD has any affect in RSA3. Unless we give a range for BEGDA it doesn't seem to behave as expected. Could someone let me know how I can load all records to BW whose BEGDA/ENDDA fall in the range of StarteDate and EndDate.
    Thanks,
    Anil.

    Anil,
If you are using a custom dataSource, make sure the dataSource fields for begda and ennda are labeled "datefrom" and "dateto".

  • Slow data retrieval from essbase using Planning web

    Hi
Well, When we try to access the data form on ultimate parent level, it takes long time to retrieve data from the server. Pls advice
    Regards
    SNK

You can probably prove that this is the issue by creating a retrieve using the excel addin or smart view to replicate the form and see how long it takes to retrieve.
You will also see in the essbase app logs how long it is taking to perform the retrieve.

The contents of my odbc.ini are below. When I run the demoodbc executable (after a . hyperion/products/Essbase/eis/server/is.sh) and connect to the db using my username/password, the connection succeeds and the query runs successfully. But for some reason eas isn't able to use that same odbc connection.
I have no idea where else to look as far as fixing this issue. None of the data sources that were originally in odbc.ini (the various wire connections, etc) appeared in the open SQL window either, so...?
Where do I start looking on this?

  • EIS data load via rules file

    Hi,
PLease let me know the process to control the EIS data load into essbase using a rules file. I did not find the option in EIS. please help me.
    Thanks,
    pr

    In EIS
    1) You have to define the Logical OLAP Model connecting to the relational source. It defines the joins between fact table and dimension tables.
    2) Based on the OLAP Model You have to create meta outline which defines the rules for loading members and data into essbase.

  • Data Load behaviour in Essbase

    Hello all-
I am loading data from Flat File using a server Rule File. In the rule file i have properties for a feild where in it replaces a name in flat file for member name in outline so it is somwhat like this:
    Replace With
    Canada 00-200-SE
    Belgium 00-300- SE
    and so on
Now in my flat file there was a new member for example china & the replacement for it was not present in Rule File & when the data was loaded in the system it didnt rejected that record on the contrary it loaded the values for china in
the region which was above it and overwrited the values for the original one.
Is this the normal behavior of essbase , I was thinking that record should have been rejected .
I know when we do a Lock & Send via Addin & if member is not present in outline it give you warning when you lock that sheet & eventually if you dont delete that member from the template it will load data against it in the member above it.
Is there a waok around for this problem or this is what it is ?
I am on Hyperion Planning / Essbase Version 9.3.1.
    Thanks

Still thinking how does these properties effects the way data is being loaded right now. Have gone through DBAG & i dont see a reason y any of these peoperties might be affecting the load^^^Here's what I think is happening: China is not getting mapped, but the replacement for Belgium is occuring and resolves to a valid member name. Essbase sees China and doesn't recognize it (you knew all of this already).
When the load occurs, Essbase says (okay, I am anthromorphizing, but you get the ida) "Eh, I have no idea what China is, but 00-300-SE is the last good Country member I have, I will load there." Essbase is picking the last valid member and loading to that. I liken it to a lock and send from Excel with nested dimensions and non-repeating members. Essbase "looks up" a row, finds the valid member, and loads there.
And yes, this is in the DBAG: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_dbag/ddlload.htm#ddlload1034271
Search for "Unknown Member Fields" -- it's all the way at the bottom of the above link.
In fact, to save you the trip, per the DBAG:
If you are performing a data load and Essbase encounters an unknown member name, Essbase rejects the entire record. If there is a prior record with a member name for the missing member field, Essbase continues to the next record. If there is no prior record, the data load stops. Regards,

  • Extract data from Essbase using APIs

    Hi All
I was going through the API documentation for Essbase and data extraction from Essbase using API.
It seems APIs make use of Report script to extract data from Essbase. This would increae the overhead of writing a report script everytime you need to extract data from Essbase.
Is there any other method to extract/export whole or specific data from essbase using APIs?
How does Excel Add-in retrieves data from essbase without any report script?
Can Provider services be helpful in any way to achieve this?
    Please help

    Hi,
Its hard to say if there is a faster way without knowing how you're doing it now. A few questions:
    - why are you using the API to get at Essbase Data, especially if you've already defined a (some) report scripts?
    - if you want to use provider services, vs having to ensure all the libraries and the client are present, why not use the JAPI?
    - Without seeing your code, its hard to know why you're getting out of memory errors. What are you doing with the data as you're parsing it from the report?
Grid API exists for the C API, and more noteable the JAPI, but not VB(I'm surprised the VB api still exists).
Why not just use the Java API?
