Preflight bitmaps vs images

In the Preflight dialog box accessed from the Print Production tools in Acrobat 8 Pro, one choice is to list BITMAPS below 1000, 300, or 600 ppi; another choice is to list IMAGES below 100, 120, 150, and 250 ppi -- can anyone answer what is the difference between images and bitmaps?

In this connection a bitmap is likely to be a monochrome image (in
fact, two colours, commonly but not always black and white).

  • A generic error occurred in GDI+ while assing tiff image file to Bitmap and Image

    Hi,
    I am getting "A generic error occurred in GDI+" error while reading the tiff image file to Bitmap or Image.
    Below is my sample code.
    string filePath=@"c:\Images\sample.tif";
    Bitmap bmp=new Bitmap(filePath);   // here getting exception
    int totalpages=bmp.GetFrameCount(.....);
    etc......
    I tried using Bitmap.FromFile() and also from FromStream() even for Image also but there is no use.
    Moreover i m having full permissions for the file path and the tiff file is having multiple pages.
    Can anyone help me to solve this issue please.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kishore
    Kishore

    Make sure that the Tif file is valid (can other software open it)?  If you are able to save a Tif using GDI+, try saving that Tif, then opening it.  Part of me wonders if there is something about that specific Tif that GDI+ doesn't like.
    You could also try using WIC to open the TIF, perhaps you would have better luck there.

  • How to use icon instead of bitmap for image on button in toolbar?

    Hello,
    I am trying to use an image that has a transparent background on one of the buttons on our custom toolbar in Adobe Acrobat.
    In the past we have been using the following code with Bitmaps to display the image and it has worked perfectly:
    ======================================================================
    AVIcon icon = LoadBitmap(gHINSTANCE, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDB_OPTIONS_LARGE));
    toolButton = AVToolButtonNew(ASAtomFromString("IMGR:Options"), icon, true, false);
    ====================================================================
    Background info on the other objects:
    V0200_DATA* dataPtr = (V0200_DATA*) windowsData;
    gHINSTANCE = dataPtr->hInstance;
    Resource File:
    IDB__OPTIONS_LARGE BITMAP "Resources\\ImageOptions_Large.bmp"
    IDI_ICON1 ICON "Resources\\Image_Icon.ico"
    Unfortunately, these bitmaps are not transparent and end up showing the white background instead of the transparent one.
    I have tried using Icons and PNGs as my image but I have been unable to get anything to show up. Here is the code I am using to get the AVIcon:
    ===================================================================
    AVIcon icon = LoadImage(gHINSTANCE, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_ICON1), IMAGE_ICON, 0, 0, LR_DEFAULTSIZE);
    ===================================================================
    However, no image appears on the toolbar. I am able to use LoadImage with the bitmap, but I am unable to make it transparent, even when using the LR_LOADTRANSPARENT flag.
    If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    I got it worked with PNG file. I got transparent backgrounds in toolbar and menus.
    below is my code,
    HRSRC resource = FindResource(gHINSTANCE, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDB_SAVE_21_PNG), L"PNG");
    if( resource == NULL )
         //Unable to load resource
    DWORD resourceSize = SizeofResource(gHINSTANCE, resource);
    HGLOBAL glob = LoadResource(gHINSTANCE, resource);
    LPVOID resouceArray = LockResource(glob);
    ASUns8  *data = (ASUns8*)ASmalloc(resourceSize + 1);
    memcpy(data, resouceArray, resourceSize);
    AVIconDataRec  iconData;
    iconData.dataStm  =  ASMemStmRdOpen(( char  *)data, resourceSize);
    iconData.eColorFormat  =  kAVIconColor;
    void * iconBundle = AVAppCreateIconBundle6(kAVIconPNG, &iconData, 1);
    AVToolButtonNew (ASAtomFromString("PFXDOC:Pfx_DocumentToolSave"),
                                            iconBundle, true, false);

  • How to convert   (pdf raw data) binary to (bitmap/TIFF) image.

    Dear gurus,
    I'm facing a problem to converting my raw data(binary), which i got from my uploaded PDF file.  I try a few methods from SDN itself to make the raw file can be download to my local PC as images.
    I already try to download the raw data, directly using FM GUI_DOWNLOAD, even though it is successfully downloaded to my local drive, but the file still cannot be opened. I debug a few program, which is use to download the bitmap inside the SAP directories to local directory but when i compared both debug data it's something differently written.
    Is there any other way for me to solve this problem? It's there the a way for me to convert the PDF's raw data into bitmap first, before change convert them to binary and download them to my local drive?
    Helping is a rewards. Thanks a lot.

  • How to save bitmap member(image) from dir MX projector on harddisc?

    as jpg, bmp, tif or any other graphic extension.

    Have you looked at the mile high table of xtras? There was once an xtra named SharpExport that would do what you wanted, but it looks to have disappeared. You might want to try Valentin Schmidt's ImgXtra

  • Render symbols (or images) with display set "cache as bitmap" possible?

    Hi people,
    A question;
    I have like 12 symbols on the stage. They al have images in them in JPG format, saved at a quite low percentage in quality.
    The symbols are being animated seperately but it looks very sluggish.
    I am recreating a whole Flash site in Edge. Everything works (amazing) fine except I am missing the function like it exists in Flash:
    “Display/ Render/ cache as bitmap”. (see image)
    This function used to help me BIGTIME in Flash too.
    Now how can I do something similar in Edge?
    I do not want to animate all symbols as 1, it is essential they are animated separately.
    Is this possible in Adobe Edge Animate? Is there something similar in Javascript/ Jquery?
    Thnx in advance!
    Lester.

    Nobody has an answer for this one?
    Not even from Adobe?

  • How do I convert a bitmap/jpg type image to vector graphics/editable outline?

    Corel Draw 5 did this very nicely but it's obsolete and I can't load it onto this machine (HP all-in-one Pavilion desktop with Windows 8).
    I am working with hand-drawn images but since I need to manipulate the outline/s with a 4 - 12 pixel tool, it would be great to just be editing nodes instead.  Creating the image from scratch as a vector graphic would be a horrible large amount of work and is not feasible at this time.
    Is there any way other than Corel Draw 5 to make the conversion from bitmap-type images to editable vector graphics, ie: editable nodes?
    Thanks.
    PS - I don't have $700 - $1000 to spend on  software at this point but do have Photoshop Elements 11, Premiere 11 and Lightroom, plus GIMP and the usual.  Where should I start?

    For occasional conversions, did you consider 'online bitmap to vector' conversions ? Do a Google search for that.
    For more advanced and free solution, consider inkscape. It's a real vector drawing tool and can convert bitmaps.

  • 3D Tool with Bitmaps/images?

    Hi All,
    I can use the 3D rotation tool in freehand quite easily with
    vector shapes etc however I am wondering if this is possible with
    imported bitmaps and images etc. It doesn't seem to apply anything
    to an image in this sense. Does it need converting?
    I'm basically trying to do a 3D perspective of a simple
    screenshot of my desktop to create a similar looking thing to the
    new Windows Vista Flip 3D if you get what I mean.
    I have read through the help files which are quite useless
    really! And searched the net to no avail.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,

    Do you have Photoshop? You could set it up in a 3D
    perspective there and
    then import it into Freehand if you need to.

  • Converting images to bitmap

    I know this is a dumb question, but can anyone point me to a good way of doing this? I have been searching the internet desperately to no avail! Thank you in advance!

    As Buko said, go to grayscale first. But you will get a black and white image. I suspect that is what you are after.
    By the way, you can apply swatches to grayscale images in InDesign.
    As per my first post, if it's the "normal" kind of bitmap (raster) image, just flatten and Save as tiff, jpeg or whatever.

  • Image Mode Bitmap is grayed out?

    I'm going through an online tutorial and they are asking me to bitmap the image, but when I go to Image > Mode > Bitmap, bitmap is grayed out.
    Using CS3, jpg image, layer is unlocked (not background)

    Ah... grayscale. That must've been it. The tutorial was on PSDTUTS.com

  • PrintDataGrid's DataGridColumn - Embedded image not printing when you use TextFlow in the item rende

    I'm printing a datagrid using something like  this...
    <mx:PrintDataGrid
      id="printDataGrid"
      width="100%"
      height="100%"
      showHeaders="false"
      borderVisible="false"
      horizontalGridLines="false"
      variableRowHeight="true"
      dataProvider="{titles}"
      >
      <mx:columns>
       <mx:DataGridColumn
        itemRenderer="renderer.TitlePrintRenderer"
        />
      </mx:columns>
    </mx:PrintDataGrid>
    TitlePrintRenderer.mxml has s:RichText component. I use  RichText's textFlow property to render the text. The approach is working fine  except that if the textFlow has embedded images (<img source=... />), the  images are not printed!
    Is this a bug? Is it a limitation? Has anyone come  across this issue?
    I'm using Flex SDK 4.5.1

    After struggling for 4+ days on using timer / events for printing PrintDataGrid with embedded images in RichText's textFlow, I tried your other suggestion... to convert <img> tags to InlineGraphicElement and give it Bitmap from image loaded from a .gif file. The approach works but the printout skips images in a few rows!
    I've this test case in which, every time I print, it skips printing image in the second row! I also implemented this approach in a more complex test case and depending on the total number of rows, it would skip printing image in different number of rows. I'm suspecting that even if you construct InlineGraphicElement from bitmap loaded from an image, PrintDataGrid's renderer still skips printing image intermittently.
    I would very much appreciate it if you could create small project from my following code and verify this behavior. I'm at my wit's end in getting this printing to work.
    PrintImagesTest.mxml

  • Images won't embed to pdf

    I've recently upgraded from CS6 to CC. I create various marketing pieces that we send out to our printer and every file I create now no longer embedds images. You can view the pdf fine between machines but the embedded image that the printer needs seems to disappear. So it preserves the link but does not embed the image.
    I've been using "Press Quality" preset to save my pdfs in the past and I've been fine. But now I've upgraded every time I send a file to the printer, they come back saying the images are missing. I've later opened the pdf and ran preflight and sure enough it says no image. I looked at older files that I've previouly saved with the same settings in CS6 and preflight shows the images.
    So there is some setting that I've changed and I don't know what. Any one have any advice on how to get my linked images to embed? Also it's not just my .pdfs. When I create an .eps from a native .ai file only the link is saved (meaning when someone else gets it the image on another computer, the link is missing). I've never had to package my Illustrator files before and I don't want to have to start doing it since it is not a function of Illy.
    Thanks

    The problem with save as is the files are still huge. They need to be high res. for print. It also doesn't work in Photoshop so that is why I came here. Both Crash. The ones I receive are high res and print to pdf files.
    I still would like to know if i need a driver?

  • Question about images with transparent backgrounds in inDesign

    Hi,
    I've recently switched from Quark to inDesign CS5.5, and I'm trying to figure out how to do something that was easy in Quark but doesn't seem to work in iD. I'd like to colorize a greyscale image that has a transparent background. In Quark, I could import it as a TIF and then specify different colors for the image and background (which I could specify to be transparent). In iD, seems that the transparency needs to be included in Photoshop (which wasn't the case in Quark; the method worked for any greyscale TIF), and that I need to chage the color of the in original image if I want to keep that transparency. Also, from what I've read, the imported image works better as a PSD.
    Is this correct? Does the transparency and color need to be specified in Photoshop for me to have a transparent image? (The image is too complex to include a clipping path, and it's being placed on a photographic background, so I can't simply change the bckground image to a solid color to make it blend in).
    If this is the case, it's really disappointing--I was able to get some great effects in Quark using the other method. I hope I'm misunderstanding what to do, or there's some kind of workaround.
    Thanks in advance for any help,
    --Harriet

    ID will only colorize non-transparent grayscales or bitmap mode images. If you don't need continuous tone, saving in Bitmap mode will render the white areas transparent when you colorize ( if the frame itself has no fill color, else that fill color will show), but that's not much good if you need a true grayscale. Changing the blending mode of a colorized grayscle to Multiply will cause white areas to be come transparent, but other areas will multiply over any background, which may not be what you want, either.
