    I am trying to develop an entity bean attached to a key which have a
    composite key using Primary Key Class. When I use the findByPrimaryKey
    method of the bean it throws an exception as follows,I notice that you are using the reference CMP plugin.
    at com.netscape.server.ejb.SQLPersistenceManager.find(Unknown Source)I'm also willing to bet that you may have created your own primary key class
    with a single field, rather than using the fields type as a primitive
    primary key class. If you do this, then SQLPersistenceManager will break.
    It is badly written, and has some stupid assumptions. The one I remember
    the most is that if you only have one primary key field, then
    SQLPersistenceManager assumes you have used a primitive type such as
    java.lang.String or java.lang.Integer, to represent it, rather than creating
    your own <Enity>Pk.java file.
    SQLPersistenceManager works for toy examples, but in general I would say it
    is broken and unusable. Either use BMP, or splash out the money for Coco
    Base from Thought Inc. Currently the only CMP plugin for iPlanet App server,
    other than the reference implementation, that I know of.

  • Deploying BMP Entity Bean with primary key calss

    Hi,
    I am using EJB 2.0 with and websphere studio 5.0 and database is sql server 2000.
    My BMP Entity bean has a primary key class.From my client I am invoking the Entity Bean by calling it's findbyprimarykey method.
    The home interface of my findbyprimarykey method returns a class of type Remote.But in the Entity Bean class,the return type is the primarykey class type.
    My problem is invoking this findbyprimarykey from the client to get the remote interface so that the other business methods of the entity bean can be called.
    The control goes into the ejbFindbyPrimaryKey but when it is returing from the Entity Bean class,it gives a remote exception (as the return type in Entity Bean class and Home interface are different for the findbyprimarykey method).
    I think that somewhere in the deployment decriptor in my websphere,i have to specify the primarykey class type,which i am missing out and hence getting the error.
    Please help me out with your advice and solution.
    Thanks

  • Primary key issue with adf Entry Form.

    Hi All,
    i'm using jdev version 11.1.1.5.0
    use case: i have create simple entry form based on Eo and Vo using database table like student(enrollment no,name address)
    where enrollment no is primary key.
    so when i have create a record i have set enrollment no in entity impl class of this eo create method using some logic based on my need like(20130001)
    for that i have read highest no from database field and assign to enrollment no field when user create record.
    so when user create record second time then enrollment no is 20130002. and other detail like name and address user fill and commit record. and it is fine.
    but problem is that when two user access same form at a time and create record so both have get same primary key like 20130003 because in current time in database maximum value is 20130002.
    so which user  commit record first it record will save on database and second user get error message because of primary key violation.
    so my question is that where we generate primary key value for record so when multiple user access form have get different primary key value. and in my use case i can't use sequence and any autoincrement no
    because i have patter for primary key.
    Thanks in Advance
    Manish

    Hi,
    Dimitar and Frank
    thank for reply.
    How can i apply non-concurrent DB lock can you please explain.(because lock method on entity impl not work when user create new row as per documentation)
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14099_19/web.1012/b14022/oracle/jbo/server/EntityImpl.html#lock__
    i have write following line of code in entity impl class to set primary key value(reqid)-
        @Override
        protected void prepareForDML(int i, TransactionEvent transactionEvent) {
             super.prepareForDML(i, transactionEvent);
            this.setReqid(genReqid());
        public String genReqid() {
            String reqby = this.getReqby();
            String qry =
                "SELECT nvl(MAX(TO_NUMBER(SUBSTR(REQID,7))),0)+1  FROM STM_REQHDR WHERE REQBY=? AND REQTYPE<>'M' and substr(reqid,1,2)<>'MT' AND SUBSTR(REQID,1,3)<>'PAY'";
            PreparedStatement ps = null;
            String no = "";
            try {
                ps = getDBTransaction().createPreparedStatement(qry, 0);
                ps.setString(1, reqby);
                ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery();
                if (rs.next()) {
                    no = rs.getString(1);
                ps.close();
            } catch (Exception e) {
                System.out.println("Exception in Gen req id ==>" + e);
            String reqno = reqby + String.format("%6s", no).replace(' ', '0');
            return reqno;
    but when i run form in debug mode and two user commit concurrent manner only one time code block is executed who first commit. and second user got error message.
    thanks

    i thought of doing using insert query,but i am not sure about the syntax to be used.

    That's why you should use PreparedStatement instead of Statement. Its setString() method will escape that value for you properly when you bind it.

  • Insert record and return the primary key

    Okay, I need to insert a record into a MSSQL database and return the primary key of that record. Im using the following code which is obviously wrong as I'm getting either 'NULL' or 'com.microsoft.jdbc.base.BaseResultSet@1d520c4' returned depending on the ways I've tried. The primary key is an int value called clientID which is incremented by one each time a new record is added.
    // set the prepared statement
                String sql="INSERT INTO Client(username, country, clientIP, browser, os) VALUES(?,?,?,?,?)";
                PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement(sql);
                pstmt.setString(1, inUserName);
                pstmt.setString(2, inCountry);
                pstmt.setString(3, inClientIP);
                pstmt.setString(4, inBrowser);
                pstmt.setString(5, inOS);
                // Insert the row
                pstmt.executeUpdate();
                Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
                ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY()");
                System.out.println("Result "+rs);The primary key value is needed so that it can be used as a foregin key in another table. Am I going about this the correct way? Any help, pointers or code fixing would be appreciated.....

    Yes. I tried this way but I only ever get the answer
    of 0 when i print our the result! Not really sure
    whats happening.That's because you don't print a ResultSet like that. In order to get the key out, you have to do this:
    int key = 0;
    while (rs.next())
        key = rs.getInt(1);What were you thinking with your code?
    You might want to do this in a transaction. If the INSERT fails, you'll want to roll back.
    The "select @@identity" is correct for M$ Access, SQL Server, and Sybase. I believe it's also correct for MySQL, but I'm not 100% certain of that.

  • Using Prepared Statement to pass array of primary key

    How can i use the PreparedStatement to send the array (It can be variable depend upon the user selection) of primary keys to database
    For example I want prepare statement somthing like this
    public Collection findByIds(long[] ids){
    String sql = "select * from Person where person_id IN (?)"
    PreparedStatement ps = conn.prepareStatement(sql)
    ps.setArray();
    Any example this regard will be appreciated. Database is Oracle

    Hi!
    I found your question about sending an Array to a SQL phrase.
    (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=48&thread=150061)
    I have found the same problem.
    If you have resolved that problem more elegant than build a SQL phrase dinamic please send me an email with your solution at [email protected] .
    Example :
    I try to send a parameter to a phrase like this
    select * from tableName where fieldName in ?
    where ? is like [ "a", "b", "c"] - this collection may have different number of elements.
    I don't want to create a SQL phrase dinamic (it's ugly) like this
    select from tableName where fieldName = "a" or fieldName = "b" or fieldName = "c"

  • Returning autogenerated primary key after insertion

    Hi
    I am inserting a row into the database using simple jdbc statement. The primary key for that row is autogenerated by the database.
    Is there any way to get the primary key and return it to the user?

    ps.executrUpdate();
    ResultSet rs = ps.getGeneratedKeys();
    while (rs.next()) {
    primaryKey = rs.getInt(1);
    }

  • EjbCreate returns primary key - auto increment

    ejbCreate of a BMP entity bean must return the primary key.
    If i have an auto-incrementer (in MySQL) and i insert the new data in this method, how can i then find the primary key to return?
    Surely i cannot just use a select statement in another method as the other data in the table may not be unique and may not return the correct primary key.
    Help Please
    Thanks

    Hi,
    PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO food_data (description)" + " VALUES (?)");
    //Get generated primary key
    ResultSet res = ps.getGeneratedKeys();
    while (res.next())
    {     key = res.getInt(1);
    This code requires JDK 1.4.2.

    I'll leave it you DBA and/or Data Modeler/Architech to decide if it is a good idea to update the value or not.

  • Automatic primary key generation for pointbase

    Hello friends,
    I was wondering whether it is possible to automatically generate primary keys for a pointbase database. Just like the SQL Server pointbase also has a indentity property. I have used weblogic builder to specify automatic key generation. Through the pointbase console I can see that all the columns for all the tables are marked as nullable except the primary key columns. However when I try to insert data into the database using ejb. I get the exception :

    I am not sure whether I understand your question.
    The 'NamedSequenceTable' method is independent of data base type.
    <from-docs>
    Create a table named SEQUENCE to hold the current primary key value. The
    table consists of a single row with a single column, as defined by the
    following statement:
    CREATE table_name (SEQUENCE int)
    INSERT into table_name VALUES (0)
    </from-docs>
    Then, you can add the following in the DD -
    <automatic-key-generation>
    <generator-type>NamedSequenceTable</generator-type>
    <generator_name>table_name</generator-name>
    <key-cache-size>100</key-cache-size>
    </automatic-key-generation>
    The PK type should be set to java.lang.Integer or java.lang.Long

    Hi,
    With named sequecne table,I am able to develop the application. What I
    wanted is Say Table 1 having Identity column as Primary key in the table
    Pointbase database.
    With Automatic primary key generation in Deployment descriptor, We
    generally specify SQL_SERVER or Named Sequencetable for Primary key
    generation.
    For pointbase database, I dont know how to configure this?
    Could you help me in this regard,

  • How to create one primary key for each vendor

    Hi all
    i am doing IDOC to jdbc scenario
    i am triggering idoc from R/3 and the data is going into DB table vendor through XI.
    structures are as follows:
    sender side: ZVendorIdoc (this is a customized IDOC , if i triger IDOC for multiple vendors then it triggers only 1 idoc with multiple segment )
    Receiver side:
    DT_testVendor
        Table
            tblVendor
                action UPDATE_INSERT
                access                     1:unbounded
                    cVendorName         1
                    cVendorCode        1
                    fromdate                1
                    todate                    1
                 Key1
                    cVendorName         1
    if i trigger idoc for multiple vendors ,for example vendor 2005,2006 and 2010 . then i can see that the only key comes from the very first field (2005) and the whole record for vendor 2005,2006 and 2010  goes into the table with this(2005) as a primary key
    now again if i send data for these three vendor 2005, 2006 , 2010, in which record for the vendor 2005 is same and for 2006 and 2010 are different than it takes 2005 as a primary key and it does not update the data in the table.
    my requirement is like this:   for each vendor there should be one unique key assigned.
                                              for above said example there should come three keys one for each vendor .
    could you please help me how to do this???????????

    Hi,
      In Mapping Make the statement is 0-unbounded.For each vendor create a statement.This will solve your problem.

  • Error While Deploying A CMP Entity Bean With A Composite Primary Key

    Hello all,
    I have a problem deploying CMP Entity beans with composite primary keys. I have a CMP Entity Bean, which contains a composite primary key composed of two local stubs. If you know more about this please respond to my post on the EJB forum (subject: CMP Bean Local Stub as a Field of a Primary Key Class).
    In the mean time, can you please tell me what following error message means and how to resolve it? From what I understand it might be a problem with Sun ONE AS 7, but I would like to make sure it's not me doing something wrong.

If you already have fields mapped to these columns, verify that they are key fields.Is it enough that a primary key class be serializable or all fields have to implement Serializable or be a primitive?
    Please let me know if you need more information to answer my question.
    Thanks.
    Nikola

    Hi Nikola,
    There are several problems with your CMP bean.
    1. Fields of a Primary Key Class must be a subset of CMP fields, so yes, they must be either a primitive or a Serializable type.
    2. Sun Application Server does not support Primary Key fields of an arbitrary Serializable type (i.e. those that will be stored
    as BLOB in the database), but only primitives, Java wrappers, String, and Date/Time types.
    Do you try to use stubs instead of relationships or for some other reason?
    If it's the former - look at the CMR fields.
    If it's the latter, I suggest to store these fields as regular CMP fields and use some other value as the PK. If you prefer that
    the CMP container generates the PK values, use the Unknown
    PrimaryKey feature.
    Regards,
    -marina
