Preventing ical from sending response to organizer

I been sending some of my (outlook)work meetings to my home email to import them into iCal at home. However iCal insist on sending a response to the meeting organizer.
Is there a way to block this behaviour (sending a response)?
It causes confusion and concern as they do not know my home email address and it also inflates the number of invitees in the eyes or the organizer.
Thanks

Hi,
There is a way to open all invitation replies in Mail, so you can choose to send a reply or not. You will need admin rights on the machine and it will involve changing an Applescript file inside iCal's application package. Also I suppose some experience of using Script Editor would be handy.
Please make sure you know what you are doing. If you need any more explanation, post back.
* Control-Click the iCal Application in the Finder.
* Choose 'Show Package Contents' from the contextual menu.
* In the new window that appears go to Contents/Resources.
* In here find the file called 'Mail.scpt'.
* Make a copy of this file and save it somewhere safe (in case somthing goes wrong).
* Double click the original 'Mail.scpt' file, it should open in Script Editor.
* In the script there are six handlers: showmailsbrs, showmailsbr, sendmailsb, sendmailsbr, sendmailsbrp and sendmailsbp. These all start with the word 'on'.
* In the handler that starts 'on sendmailsbrp(subjectLine, messageText, myrecipient, invitationPath)' find the line: send mymail
* Replace this with the following six lines:
-- Altered to open notifications in Mail.app without sending
-- Original line quoted out below.
-- send mymail
set visible of mymail to true
activate
-- End Altered to open notifications* Save the script and you're done.
Your replies to invitations should now open in Mail for you to choose if you want them sent or not.
I hope this helps

  • How to prevent iCal from sending invitations

After receiving an invite for dinner to my brother's home I used Siri to set up the "Appointment" on my iPhone 6 plus.  I then received a phone call from my brother asking why he received an email from me confirming an "Appointment" for dinner.  How do I stop the Calendar from sending these email invitations.

    Hello Vtgolfr,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the Calendar event that you created on your iPhone included your brother's email address. Before saving an event in the future, you may want to check the invitee field to see if his email is being populated by Siri when you create a calendar event.
You can find more information about Calendar invitations in the iOS 8 User Guide:

  • How to stop ical from sending email notifications for updates on my share ical calendar

Is it possible stop ical from sending email notifications for updates I make on my share ical calendar?
    Mac OSX 10.7.2
Very annoying for the person I am sharing my calendar with to get an email every time I change something.
I hope there is a way to stop the emails, but for the updates to still go on their calendar.
    Thanks

Great idea Lofty! thanks. If the person you are sharing a calendar with is a Yahoo Mail user, you only need to set up one filter (under Options - Mail Options - Filters) and route to Spam folder or a special folder for that purpose.
Add a filter with the following parameters:
Sender contains:    "Your First and Last Name" as it appears in the emails they are receiving
    Subject contains:  "Your First Name"
    Email body contains: "iCloud"
Don't need to match case on anything.
So far, only these unwanted emails are being routed to the folder I chose.
Hope that helps until Apple gets it's act together

  • My iPhone 4S is preventing me from sending text messages and making or recieving phone calls, any suggestions on how to rid of this problem?

My iPhone 4S will not recieve calls or text messages. It also prevents me from sending calls or text messages. I have had my SIM card double checked for verification on the phone listed and had several visits to my Bell provider. Any tips or suggestions?

The iphone is designed to lock the screen when it is next to your face.
If it is not locking when it is against your ear, then try basic troubleshooting: Restart, reset, restore
Unless you have a case on it. If you have a case, then remove the case and see if that solves it.  Otherwise, try basic troubleshooting.
If all fails then make an appointment at the local genius bar or call Apple support to arrange from a replacement.

  • School iPad - Prevent student from sending PDF in iBooks

I am desperate to disable the option of sending PDF files from inside our Student's iPad device.
We badly need to prevent our cadets from sending our Aviation Charts & documents (that we developed in PDF format) to external entities.
If only there is an option in the restriction menu to disable such option. The thing is every student has their school gmail account in their iPad.
These security issue really poses a big threat to our iPad implementation.
Hoping for such feature to be available in the future specially for companies and school like us.

if this is a feature you would like to see implemented then you need to let Apple know as these are user-to-user forums that Apple does not monitor. http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Preventing transfer from My Pictures to Organizer

How can I stop PSE4 from automatically moving selected files from My Pictures to Organizer? Sometimes I just want to look at photos in My Pictures, or send them to friends via Kodak. But after installing PSE4, I no longer have that option.

    >How can I stop PSE4 from automatically moving selected files from My Pictures to Organizer?
Well, it is not actually moving any of the photo files from My Pictures. You probably made PSE4 the default program to open jpegs or other type of photo file when you installed PSE4. You can change that.
I suggest that you click on the link below for an FAQ which will point you to an Adobe document.

  • Prevent users from sending emails to wrong users

    Hi
I was looking for a possible way of stopping users from sending emails to the wrong person.
Wonder if this can be achived by group policy or creating rules and alert.
What im actually looking for is when the user is about to send out the email they get a pop up message saying you about to send email to such person would you like to send now?
hoping there is some sort of a solution for these problem :)
    cheers

    Yes, some more details please.
The closest thing I can think of is (in Exchange 2010 - no available in 2003 or 2007) is Mailtips:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297974.aspx
But I'm not sure that's quite what you're looking for.
And how could any software know if the person is the right person?
It would have to read the person's mind and realize they are about to make a mistake by sending the message to X instead of Y.
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you.
    Hi Le Pivert,
I can understand your opinion an outlook will have to be that smart to realize that the email is about to be sent to a wrong person.
What i was look for is something like a pop up notification when click on send it has a pop up message saying you are about to send this email click yes or no to cancel.
Something like when receiving emails outlook sends the notification.
I guess the above cant be achive through the outlook may have to be a third party software it there is any.
    Cheers

I would look at these offerings if you are looking at Outlook Add-ins

If you thinking about server side solutions, Exchange has mailtips, hub transport rules, moderated groups etc... And of course 3rd party stuff is out there as well.

  • Why does iCal insist on formatting a phone number as a hyperlink? How can I prevent this, and prevent iCal from launching FaceTime in response to entering the phone number in the event box?

I just want to enter a phone number into an event in iCal. I do not want to launch FaceTime. How can I just put a phone number in an iCal event, without OSX 10.10 insisting on launching FaceTime in response to entering the phone number? I use a Macbook Pro.

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS7, it has basically become a brick.  It constantly freezes, and the home button becomes completely inoperable.  People have suggested a number of fixes for the home button problem ("calibrating", tightening screws, etc.) but none of the fixes solved the problem.  Through trial and error, I've come to realize that the problem is that the phone doesn't have enough computing power and that too much of its RAM gets used up by background processes, causing the phone to freeze.
I have found an app that stops unnecessary background processes currently running, frees up RAM, and lets the phone function properly (Free RAM 1.3). Once I've run this app, the phone functions perfectly.
However, this clean up only happens each time the app is launched (ie: it does not continuously free up RAM).  So, I constantly have to run it (and sometimes am not able to because the phone is frozen and the home button won't work).
When it is running, the app  displays the background processes that are running.  Looking at the list, there are many processes for which I have no need, such as processes related to automatic checking for app updates, processes related to iCloud (which I do not use), etc.  Preventing these processes from running in the first place would go a long way in making my phone more useable (being able to return to a previous iOS would be a better option, but Apple won't allow this).
Here is my question:  is there a way to prevent unnecessary background processes from running at all?
    Which app is this?

  • How do I stop iCal from sending notifications everytime I change a shared calendar or event?

iCal sends a notification (not an email) to all users of a shared calendar whenever an event is added or edited. How do I stop that?

as far as i understand iCal it is on the "receivers/subscribers" side to deal with email-updates (and not on the "senders/changers" side):
snippet from my Re: How do you stop receiving notifications about updated calendar events? (there is a screenshot as well):
to NOT get email notification about updated events from a shared calendar you subscribed to you have to uncheck "events affect availability" in that calendars "info" (mac os X.7 and X.8: iCal —> calendars dropdown —> right click on the subscribed calendar —> choose "get info" from the context-menu —> uncheck "events affect availability")

  • How do i prevent iCal from rearranging my calendars?

I use iCal to manage a lot of calendars (near 20), I'd like to keep the related ones close together.  Unfortnately apple did away with the calendar groups, so that's just left me with one long list.  The pain isn't from the long list, but rather that Apple's servers dictate the order that my iCloud calendars appear.  For example, lets say i have 2 groups of calendars A & B and each group has three calendars, so my total list of calendars would be A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, & B3.  Keeping the example simple, I would like my calendars to show up in that same order on the list A1-3, B1-3.  But instead, iCal randomizes the order to B3, A1, A3, B1, A2, B2.  And it will change the next time or two that I open iCal and the oder will be B2, A2, A3, B3, A1, B3, for NO explicable reason.  Some of the calendars are mine that I share, some are calendars that are shared with me and some are subscriptions to various calendar feeds.  None of that should matter and I should have control over my own information.
    1) is this a problem for anyone else?
    2) any ideas on a fix?
    3) if an apple supervisor is reading this, please pass the information along.
    thank you
    -m

Nope. My calendar order is still a relative crap-shoot everytime I open iCal.  Most calendars stay in the same general area of the list, but I still have NO control over their order.  Each time I try to rearrange them, they stay put for about 5 seconds then snap back to an arbitrary order set by the iCal/CalDAV gods in the internet nether region(s).

  • How do I prevent iCal from rearranging my calendar order?

    Hello,
I have about 15 iCal calendars, three are my own creation, the rest are subscriptions or downloaded calendars. I would like calendars with similar content to be grouped together on the calendar list. That way, the display order on the daily/weekly/monthly is in a rational order.
For example, I have a number of 'all-day' events that I would like diplayed in a specific order. The way to do this appears to be to re-arrange the order of the calendar list. The problem is that no matter how many times I rearrange the order, iCal (or more probably iCloud) switches them back. Or occaisionally to an entirely new arrangement.
Thinks I have tried, based on internet searches of this problem:
    1. Deleting the file com.apple.ical.plist from the library/preferences. This did not seem to change anything, although it's not clear to me whether I should delete the file before or after making changes.
    2. Turning off iCloud on all my other devices, then making the changes on my mac iCal. This also did not help.
    3. Changing the order of the calendars on iCloud.com. The problem is that subscribed calendars do not appear on iCloud.com and therefore cannot be moved.
    4. Angrily trying to change the order of the calendars for twenty minutes, hoping it would magically "take." Alas, it did not.
If anyone has any thoughts, I would really appreciate it. This has been driving me crazy.
    Derek

I see this is an old question with no answer. I can't find any answers for this anywhere on the internet. Anyone with any ideas?
My "all day events" are in order until I go to print. It then reorders them with no apparent rhyme or reason. The printed calander doesn't look good either with the different calendar colors all mixed up. The only way I have found to keep the order is to make them timed events which they are not. ( I get questions like : "why does it say seven o'clock at my name?" )

  • Prevent User From Sending Mail

We are trying to drop (silently) all mail sent by the account, [email protected] To accomplish this, we added this rule to the SEND_ACCESS section of the mappings file:
    *|[email protected]|*|* $B
This appears to work correctly when we simulate an email by "telnet-ing" to port 25. Here are the logs:

    Hi,
The rule you are using is looking at the envelope from address, not the header from address.
You can see from the email and the log snippet that you supplied that the envelope from address is actually set to nothing (so bounce emails are silently dropped - which in general for notification style emails is a good thing):
    Return-path: <>
That is why your telnet test has [email protected] in the mail.log entry whereas the real email doesn't.
So as Jay noted, you are probably best to block at the IP level OR use a sieve filter (imta.filter) which looks at the header From address and discards the email as appropriate.
    Regards,
    Shane.

  • Prevent SRW2008P from sending EAP Success message on connect

    Hello,
I have a SRW2008P switch which is sending a EAP Success message when a device is connected to it.
How can I disable this? EAP / 802.1x is golobaly disabled on the switch.
I need to connect a cable modem to the switch in a seperate VLAN. The cable modem is configured by the provider only to allow one client. So as soon as I connect the cable modem to the switch the switch sends out an EAP Success message to it and the cable modem locks the MAC address of the switch. The router behind the swich can there for not connect to the modem as the modem has already locked the MAC of the switch instead of locking the MAC of the router.
I have attached a picture of a wireshark capture while connecting my notebook to the switch.
    Thank you, Artem

    Jarnathan,
The are several tricks and methods to help with this problem, but they do not involve Rules.
In the Mail Preferences/Composing you can check a box beside Mark addresses not in this domain, and type in your "somebigcompany.com" domain name. In this mode any address not in that domain will be marked in red, including your From address displayed in the Compose window as you draft.
Secondly, in the same Composing preferences, your can select one address as the default for all New messages (but this will not apply to Reply or Forward.
However, instead of selecting one default New message address, you can click to turn the small black triangle downward, thus expanding your Inbox to show the Inbox of each account, and work in one account at-a-time. In this mode, all new messages will be defaulted to be from the address of that respective Inbox.

  • TS3276 why does apple deny that they have trouble with some hotel wireless connections that prevent us from sending mail?

This morning I had no trouble sending mail from ALB.  Then I did have trouble at the Marriott in Baltimore.  This is a recurrent issue.  Some hot spots work fine, some only allow me to retrieve mail, but not send any.  More than frustartiong as it denies me working ability with mail on the road!

I have noticed this too because I work a lot overseas and live out of many hotels.  This is not just a Mail issue but also with Outlook, and it has to do with your outgoing port configurations.  It's not Apple's fault it is the ISP behind the wifi and some of these ports are blocked for whatever reason.  The only thing that I do is try different mail accounts, ie Yahoo, Google, Mac, until you find one that works.  Sounds stupid but that's the only way that
I can keep communicating back to the US.

  • Is there a way to prevent users from sending empty or incomplete PDF forms?

    Hi all,
Using Acrobat Professional 8, I made a fillable form to individuals to fill in and submit to me as a pdf attachment to an e-mail or print out it and fill by hand.
Question 1. I want to make sure they don't send incomplete or empty forms back to me. Is there a way to do that?
    2. The form is 8.5x15 inches. I want it to look like one continuous page on screen but print as 2 letter size pages. However, when i go to print it, acrobat scales it down to fit in one page which makes the text too small to read.
    Please advise! Thanks.

    On Question 2:
when you get to the Print menu in Acrobat/Reader look for scale to fit paper and uncheck if there is a reference to Full size check that.
