Preventing Loss of Focus

I am using window.open() to open a pop-up window for an important announcement for a new organizational J2EE application from a .js file that is called during the user login. The application was taking focus over the pop-up and I thought I had solved this by using the a JavaScript for loop that runs self.focus in the pop-up for 20 seconds. However, I'm still losing focus about 5-10% of the time. Are there any JSP tags or other JavaScript methods I can use? Any idea how the application could be overriding the self.focus only some of the time? We use IE5.5 as our standard browser.
Thanks

I forgot to mention that I am using the setInterval at 500ms in the loop to activate the self.focus.
Thanks

  • How may I prevent loss of Music - not from iTunes - on a new computer?

    The original iTunes Library I had for my iPod Touch was on a computer that has broken down.
    I am concerned about what I'm reading in the iTunes HELP files, because I see no way to prevent loss of my non-purchased (at least from iTunes) music when syncing with a newly authorized computer. I do not have all of the original CDs anymore for most of this music.
    I have just installed iTunes on this new computer & wish to save ALL current iPod Touch content into this new and empty iTunes Library!  What must I do to save my non-purshased content?
    I did just do a BACKUP of my iPod contents but have stopped there, not knowing if it will contain everything...  What now?
    THANKS!

    Well, I really do appreciate your input Kappy.  When it comes to doing backups, your info is correct and, in general, very helpful.  I am suspicious, however if it will actually have any bearing on the iTunes interaction and what iTunes will allow me to place into the new library.
    As for iTunes and what it will allow - or not allow, I'm not sure that the backup will allow me to slip it into the library per se.  I thinking that it's an iTunes issue instead of a backup issue, but maybe not...
    If I had any other model than a Touch, I believe I could use the iPod as a hard drive and transfer accordingly, but having a Touch, I do think my original question remains unanswered.
    Thanks again!

  • Indesign CS5.5 hang on loss of focus when opening files

    I know there's going to be no quick fix but I'm going to throw this out. InDesign CS5.5 / 7.5.2 running on WindowsXP SP3 seems to hang when the program looses focus when a file is opened. The program will ocassionally lose focus if you click on the "update" button or if you select another application/window. The result is that the file will open but InDesign does not allow any actions. Just a "ding" when you click anywhere.
    Besides the obvious "don't touch your computer", any fixes/ideas? Hang on update is really annoying, especially if you don't touch anything except the update button.

    Hello all, sorry to bump such an old thread but this is the most similar topic I've come across to a problem some of us here are also having. I think the hidden alert is simply the update links progress bar, after playing with my monitors a bit:
    but even with it active on the main monitor, the progress bar is stuck and cancel does nothing.
    I have a theory that it is to do with linking to EPS files... but nothing to back that up.
    This is InDesign CS5 and Win7
    edit: I'm canvassing the other users here to see if it might be that file specifically.

  • Dashboard loss of focus

    I used to regularly use the postit widgets in the dashboard, as well as a calculator. However, since a month or so, everytime I start writing something in the postits or in the calculator widget, I manage to write a few characters (say 20) and then the dashboard loses the focus. If I hide the dashboard, click an app, show the dashboard again, click on a widget one or multiple time, when I write, it writes in the application that I was in and I have no way to interact with what is in the dashboard.
    I used to have this very annoying bug with Leopard and it was corrected when I installed Snow Leopard. It is now back unfortunately.
    Please help!

    What I mean is that weither or not I click on the widget, when I type keys, the keys are actually caught by some other application in the background instead of by the widget.

  • How to detect loss of keyboard focus?

    I’ve got a numeric input field that must be padded with
    leading zeros to exactly 8 digits. The handler to pad the input is
    trivial and calling the handler on various mouse events is equally
    simple, however, I would also like to call the handler when the
    input field looses keyboard focus by tabbing. Apparently, keyDown
    events are not passed for the tab key when auto tabbing is engaged.
    Anyone know if there is an event triggered by loss of focus?

    There is no onBlur event in Lingo (though something like it
    would be a
    useful addition). You'll need to poll for keyboard focus.

  • Lasso tool problem, using alt key, no click within 5sec causes loss of active window focus

    I have been using Photoshop since ver. 4 and have never seen this happen.  The only difference is now I'm on Windows 7 64bit.  Did not have this problem with XP.  Current version CS3 Extended.
    Problem: While using Lasso tool with the alt key if I do not make a mouse click in 5 seconds Photoshop's active window loses focus for a split second and then the first point of my selection and the last point will connect.  Thus, wasting my time and my attempt at a selection.
    I have task bar buttons to "Never combine".  I see for that split second what appears to be another program button opening but it is so fast that I cannot see if there is a name on the task bar button.  The current Photoshop button moves to the right and back too fast.  This all happens very quickly as the window loses focus.
    I first thought it was some another program but after many searches found nothing I can identify as the cause.
    Right before posting this I had a thought and did a test that concluded in the 5 sec rule. For over a minute I held down the alt key and made a mouse click within the 5 second window of time and there was no loss of window focus.  While still holding down the alt key in this same test but not making a mouse click within 5 seconds the window lost focus and the tool stopped with my selection.
    I have a wireless Logitech M305 mouse that this morning updated the driver to its current version 5.20.51, Control Center version: 6.20.50.
    I have not tested a wired mouse, yet.
    Any help would be appreciated.  Anyone else seen this?  Windows 7 64 bit the culprit?????

    UPDATE
    After I removed Photoshop from Norton 360's Administrative Settings_Silent Mode Settings_User-Specified Programs, I did not have the problem with the lasso tool that I first had with loss of window focus.  I then put Photoshop back in the 360's settings and the lasso tool still worked, BUT...............
    After a couple of days of not using Photoshop and turning computer on and off in that time, I tried Photoshop again and the same problem, it came back.  Loss of focus after 5 seconds of not clicking mouse.  So, once again I open Norton and took Photoshop out of the User-Specified Programs and the problem went away, no loss of focus.
    So, I will see if after a couple of days of turning on and off the computer and NOT putting Photoshop in the Norton's User-Specified Programs setting if the problem stays fixed.
    I don't have to have Photoshop in the Norton's setting I just thought that it would be a good idea so Norton didn't try to do any background processes or whatever while I was working in Photoshop or I was rendering a filter or something.
    Another thought I also have the Full Screen Detection setting ON.  I do use Photoshop in Full Screen mode so maybe when having both the Full Screen mode and User-Specified Programs setting selected it makes something go wacky.
    Hope this helps anyone having the same problem I "did".  Will post back after a few days to let you know if focus problem is gone.
    If it does relieve the problem then I will leave Photoshop off the list in Norton.  No sense in trying to fix something that really doesn't matter, really.
    UPDATE 2
    January 8, 2011, I tried the lasso tool again and it still appears to be working. I did my standard test of holding the alt key and clicking to make selections then not click for 5 seconds or more and I did not lose window focus.  I do not know why the Norton 360 setting triggers the loss of focus but since I turned that setting off I'm not having any problem.
    Will update again if something changes.
    Anyone else out there with the same problem that was solved using this method?

  • Focus events being received out of order

    I have a complicated applet where each component is registered with multiple focus listeners. I have several pairs of JTextFields and JButtons - textfield A, button A, textfield B, button B etc. Clicking on a JButton normally causes a JTable to be popped and focus transferred to it. Clicking on the table header or selecting a table row causes the table popup to close and the focus transferred to the textfield associated with the button.
    I'm running into a strange case where the focus is initially on textfield A. Clicking on button B causes a temporary loss of focus on textfield A. The trace shows that the focus owner is null and the permanent focus owner is textfield A. The table still gets launched. Selecting a table row causes it to close but no component has focus any more. Focus owner continues to be null, and permanent owner continues to be textfield A.
    After working on other windows in the meantime, and returning to this window I find that the focus in now back to textfield B, as it should. However, the trace shows that B has received permanent focus events. This is followed by receiving permanent focusLost events on A and then permanent focusGained events on A. At the point all in said and done, the focus appears on B.
    Does someone know why the focusGained event on B appears before focus events on A? Another strange thing in the trace was that some focus gain/loss method invocations were interrupted, another focus method invoked and the previous method resumed. I could possibly take care of this by using synchronized on all focus gain/loss methods. Also, some methods show only part of execution and not even resumed. This is still a mystery to me. I'll appreciate if someone can shed light on this.

    One of the things you'll notice is that when a text field loses focus to a right-click JPopupMenu, it is never just one foucs lost/gained pair, but rather they trade focus back and fourth a few times. This is the same when the popup closes, the focus trades back and fourth a few times.
    You are describing a similar situation between a button and a text field.
    There never was any guarantee the gained/lost events happen in any order. Also, if there is a chain of focus events, the information in the intermediate events may not be useful.
    If you really do need to understand the focus changes at an actionable level, you might want to consider writing a focus helper class that can be used to answer semantic questions about focus changes, such as, did this component lose focus because of a button click? Or was it a Popup? Or was it a Tab-keystroke?
    The focus helper can store 'hidden' information in any JComponent using JComponent.setClientProperty(Object key, Object value)...
    So instead of creating a focus listener like:
    myComponent.addFocusListener(new FocusAdapter() {
      public void focusGained(FocusEvent e) {
        // do stuff here
    });You can do it like this:
    myComponent.addFocusListener(FocusHelper.createTextFieldToButtonListener());and in that method it creates the listener like this (you might need to pass some parameters):
    public static FocusListener createTextFieldToButtonListener() {
    FocusAdapter adapter = new FocusAdapter() {
      public void focusGained(FocusEvent e) {
        recordEvent(e);
        // do stuff here
    return adapter;
    }The helper method "recordEvent" tags those components with additional information about permenant and temporary focus ownership. Also it clears hidden information that is no longer useful.
    Then later on you can give the focus helper a FocusEvent, and ask it, is this text field gaining focus because of a Tab-In, or is it because of a popup menu has closed?
    The helper constructs answers based on the hidden properties it finds in the e.getOppositeComponent() and e.getSource(). It put those properties there, so it knows what they mean, and it uses them to distinguish between useless information in the focus event chain, and the important things you want to know.

  • Pausing Flash movie on focus lost

    Is there any way thru ActionScript to detect the loss of
    focus at the Flash movie level, eg. browser minimize or selection
    of another window, I would like to auto-pause my game at this
    point. I managed to create a reasonably effective solution using
    event handlers within the EMBED and OBJECT tags in the HTML but I
    would rather have my Flash movie do the work, onBlur and onFocus
    don't behave particularly well across different browsers anyway.
    Thanks,

    quick answer - no!
    Might be possable from the right click menu, but your down to
    the mercy of the way the movie is structured internally.

  • Focus issues

    Have a SX poweshot 160 IS that I use during home exterior inspections. Recently when I try and take pics of the roof shingles, the camera wont fully focus and the pics are blurry. Just started doing this. Hate to have to buy a different camera. Any tips?

    Several questions for you:
    are you working in very cold weather? My SX150 has a problem focusing if I try to use it too quickly after taking it out of my pocket and the lens "fogs" up preventing a good focus. Usually need to wait a few minutes for mine to adapt to the cold.
    are you zooming in to get greater detail? you may need to either move back (without falling off the roof) or use less zoom. I found that I need to be aware of the focal distance more so when zoomed.
    Are you using a small or large aperture? (manual mode). try setting the aperture to f8.0 if you are in manual mode.
    is the focus assist beam turned on? Check the menu to see if it's off.
    The contrast idea is the most likely culprit. I use an index card or piece of paper to help with the focusing. The SX160 uses contrast detection so if there is not much color variation this helps a lot to achieve focus. Just place the index card on the roof in the area you want to take the shot. (I'm assuming you're not taking all the shots from a ladder only).
    As a last resort you could try using the manual focus feature of the camera, but it is a real pain on that camera.

  • JTable - Custom cell editor lossing commit

    Hello,
    I have a custom cell editor and a default renderer assigned to a specific cell in my table...
    I have the following problem :
    If i change the value of cell 'c1' from value 'v1' to 'v2' and press enter and go to another cell the value in 'c1' is rendered correctly as 'v2'
    Hoever if i change the value of cell 'c1' from 'v1' to 'v2' and simply click over to another cell the value in 'c1' stays rendered as 'v1'
    Question : Is there ANY way to mimic the behavior of the user pressing enter in my custom cell editor when a user simply selects another cell, i guess on loss of focus or something..
    This is the last problem i have on the current project i am on and its very annoying.
    Thanks in advance, any help appreciated..

    I have the same problem using a custom Date/Time Picker Object (which extends JComboBox) as an editor within a table cell. For simplicity sake, I am posting code using only the base editable JComboBox, but it exhibits the same symptoms. If you enter a value in the TextField portion of the ComboBox and Tab, your value remains the same. If you enter a value in the TextField portion of the ComboBox and click in another cell, the value returns to the previous value (before editing began).

  • Where is the focus after executing a statement in worksheet ? (804)

    After executing a statement in the sqlworksheet by hitting the 'execute statement' button, 'execute script' button or ctrl-enter the focus is no longer in the worksheet, forcing us to point/click the mouse to the edit area each time.
    Using pre-release 2.
    Can this be fixed ?
    regards,

    This loss of focus had been an issue but we did fix this in v804. Did you do a clean install? If so, what os are you installed on? I just double checked on my Windows XP box and my focus was fine.

  • Not receiving MouseWheel message because focus is removed from control

    I am trying to implement some mousewheel interaction as can be seen in e.g. Visual Studio. When the mouse is over a control and the mousewheel is scrolled the control under the mousewheel is scrolled instead of the control that has focus. I do this by adding
    a MessageFilter (but also tried a WH_CALLWNDPROC hook) and detecting the WM_MOUSEWHEEL message as it passes and pass it to the control under the mouse cursor. This all works as expected when at least one of the form controls have focus, however sometimes the
    focus is lost fi when a control in a container is disabled and there are no other enabled controls in that container. In that case the WM_MOUSEWHEEL event is never send and it doesn't work anymore.
    To test this behavior I created a test application that contains a message filter and a control that is derived from UserControl. That control contains a button that will have focus. Then the button Click event will disable the button itself. After
    that the focus is lost and WM_MOUSEWHEEL isn't received by my filter anymore.
    So how can I make sure that the WM_MOUSEWHEEL is always send by a) always have a focused control (how do I do this)? b) is there another way to intercept WM_MOUSEWHEEL even when no control is focused?

    I agree with you that is an issue we need to deal with...
    Is this a bug in .NET? Why is the keyboard focus set to a control (as we can use TAB to navigate) but Windows doesn't know it has a focused control?
    ...I added a line inside that method to get the control's parent focused, you could have a try.
    Your idea does work, however this application is just for reproducing the problem. The real application is much more complicated, but I have implemented a workaround. It is something like:
    void UpdateControls()
        var hadFocus = containerControl.ContainsFocus;
        containerControl.Controls.UpdateVisualState();
        if (hadFocus && !containerControl.ContainsFocus)
            containerControl.Focus();
    I think there could be a lot of other situations that could result in a loss of focus. I wouldn't like to write these kind of workarounds for each case. Isn't there a somewhat more robust solution to this problem? How does Visual Studio make sure that there
    is always a control with focus? I mean I don't see any problems occur in the IDE of Visual Studio where the mousewheel isn't working because of focus loss.
    Hello,
    The workaround you shared works and I agree with you that we could be sure that usercontrol could get focus but it seems like that usercontrol doesn't get any focus.
    To confirm whether there is any way to solve this issue and submit this issue to product team, I would recommend you submit a feedback in
    http://connect.microsoft.com.
    You could share the link of your feedback here that we could help you vote it. I think that Microsoft engineers will evaluate them seriously and provide you better support. In addition, you can post the answer here once the issue is resolved.

  • IE steals applet's focus on tabulator

    hi folks,
    i have a problem with an applet in internet explorer 6: i want to navigate throu a jtable in an applet via the tab/shift+tab-keys. this works fine if i run the appletviewer (eclipse) but in IE the focused table losses its focus and IE's addressline becomes focussed.
    after testing this behaviour on several computers i've found out that some act as expected and some won't (all win xp sp2, ie 6.0.2900.2180 with java 1.5.0_06).
    is there an option in the internet explorer (the application is intended to run only on ie) or java settings?
    does anyone have an idea what to do? (no, i have to use internet explorer... ;) )
    thanks in advance,
    thomas

    It is a common problem.
    It is because your modal dialog's parent is not the applet's frame parent
    use
    Container c = applet;
    do{
    c=c.getParent();
    }while(!(c instanceof Frame)&&null!=c)
    return c==null?null:(Frame)c
    to get the parent of applet
    then set it as the parent of your modal dialog
    good luck
