Preview instead of Colorsync or GraphicConverter?

Can Some one please help me, a couple of months ago when i would transfer pictures from my digital camera to my Desktop I would open them up and they were opened in the PREVIEW application and now I try to open any type of picture or any type of .jpg and ill show up on my GraphicConverter or The ColorSync. I want them to open up on PREVIEW and not on these other type of Apps Can some one please help me?

Welcome to Apple Discussions, Jaime.
If you want a particular file type to open in a particular application, highlight one example of that file type and press the ⌘ + I keys. In the Info window that opens, look for the 'Open with:' dropdown menu, and choose the app you would like to open that file, then click the Change All button just below the dropdown menu. Now all files of that type will open with the app you selected.

  • In Safari how do I open a .PDF file in Preview instead of Adobe Reader?

When a pdf file opens on my computer in Safari, it opens with Adobe Reader (v. 7.0.8). Until recently, I could right-click on my mouse and and a drop-down menu would appear with the option to open the pdf file in Preview instead of Adobe. That option has now disappeared from the drop-down menu. Can anyone explain how to get back the menu option to open the pdf file in Preview? Thanks. David
    G4 Cube 1.8ghz/tiPowerbook 800 dvi/iMac (Intel) 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

My computer automatically open PDF inside the Safari
window, but I wish it would go back to opening it
externally via Adobe. (maybe we should trade
    computers:-)
Anyway, we have the same question.
How do we control whether PDF launches internal to
    Safari, or external in Adobe?
This is what I would like to as well. I often have a lot of pdf files I need to open and then save to my hard drive. When I click on a pdf file on a website Safari opens it and then I need to right click in the document to open it with Adobe. How can I get it to open in Adobe the first time without having to right click after it opens in Safari?
    Thanks!

  • Is there a way to change the default action for clicking a "Print" button on a website to open Print Preview instead of the default system printer?

When I am at a website that contains a button for printing (Gmail, for example), is there a way to change the way that functions, so that when I click "Print", Firefox will open Print Preview instead of taking me to the default system printer?

You can apply  system-wise "negative" color effect under Settings > General > Accessibility, by toggling the White and Black switch - and, in iCab Mobile (and some other, better browsers / PDF readers), its own "night mode" negative color scheme.
Otherwise, no, you can't do anything else except for asking third party app authors to add selectable back/froeground (=text) colors to their apps.

  • PDF opens in preview instead of ibooks

All my imported  PDF's open up  in preview instead of ibooks ?!
    Any hint ?

If you want your PDF files to open with iBooks, then you can follow these procedures. (some PDFs will not work with these):
Open Finder and search for the PDF file you want to open with iBooks.
Right-click the file you've selected and point the mouse cursor to Open With...
In the Open With... menu, select which application you want to open with the file, then select iBooks.
(You can also open it with the Other menu if iBooks is not listed in recommended applications to open the file. To open, select the Other menu, under the applications list, then you will see the Enable selection box. Change Recommended Applications to All Applications. Now, select iBooks in the applications list.)
    Warning:
Do not check the Always Open With checkbox. This will make all your PDF files open with iBooks, as this makes iBooks the default PDF reader instead of Preview. Some PDFs will not work with iBooks.
Use the procedure above with caution.

  • Download and then open PDFs with Preview instead of viewing PDFs within Safari

hello, I am running Safari 6.0.2 and since this update PDF files are automatically opened within Safari. This seems to be a new feature. In my older version of Safari whenever I clicked a pdf it was downloaded to my "Downloads" folder and then automatically opened with Preview. The option open "safe" files after downloading in Safari -> Preferences -> General is ticked. So as soon as a download a PDF file it should automatically be opened with Preview. However, I cannot figure out how to download a PDF file from a google link. I googled and people suggested to use alt + mouse click on the google search result link to download the PDF. However, whenever I tried this instead of downlading the PDF file it downloads a .html file which is then apparently not opened. Also using the option "download linked file" or "download linked file as" only downloads a url.html file and not the PDF. I searched and searched for any possible solutions but cannot find any. I am really suprised that no one has yet really complained about that. Any ideas of how to fix that problem?

I had a similar probem after updating to the newest Safari -- and I posted that question on the forum this morning.  Like you, I didn't have any adobe plug-ins.  then I read another post that made sense:
find a pdf document that you know opens in Preview. Do a command-I on that document's icon.  Then you'll see 1/2 way down an item that says "open with Preview" - click on the arrow beside that, then beside it you'll see "use this application to open all documents like this one"  Under that, you'll see "change all" -- and it will change all pdfs to automatically open with Preview instead of Adobe. From then on Safari worked perfectly
Then I wondered why I didn't have the Adobe plug-in that people were telling me to disable - so I downloaded Adobe Reader again - looked in the library and sure enough there was the plug-in - so I went ahead and disabled the Adobe pdf plug-in (by dumping it in the trash).
so far so good -- first time that Safari 6.02 has worked for me since I installed it.

  • TS4256 I have got a Canon 5 Mark III, but aperture generates previews instead of of using the embedded previews. What to do?

I have got a Canon 5 Mark III, but aperture generates previews instead of using the embedded previews of my Camera. Who has got an idea? Thanks

The built-in previews are ONLY used initially for speed.
If you have this set, then turn on quick preview and you'll be able view your images when the embedded previews.  But Aperture will not use these previews *forever* - it's only to be faster during import.
You may be misunderstanding what this feature is for and how it's meant to be used.  It's to make import and initial photo editing (picking your best shots) much faster - along the lines of the speed of Photo Mechanic, which it is.
It is not intended to permanently use the camera generated JPEG preview a the preview.  That woudn't really make sense as it doesn't represent how it looks.

  • Preview instead of Illustrator 10

Was working in Illustrator 10 last nite on several files and, on looking back into the project folder, found that some, but not all, of the files had a Preview icon and .pdf suffix instead of Illustrator and .ai. I definitely did not save the files as Preview nor pdf. This seems to be a random thing.
If I open the Preview file through Illustrator and re-save as an Illustrator file (.ai) the file shows up correctly as an Illustrator file.
What's up with this?? Could this be a permissions thing? Thanks for any help you can provide

    Hi, Marcus.
This is not a permissions issue. See my "Resetting Launch Services" FAQ.
    Good luck!

  • My Mac is opening my doc in preview instead of Adobe. I loaded the latest version. It still opens in preview and I get a blank page even though the doc is there. How do I handle this?

How do I open a doc in adobe instead of preview?   Three Imac people in a group all having the same problem. I was told to download the latest Adobe, which I did. I still cant view the document even though I downloaded it to read it. It keeps opening in Preview and shows up blank. Help!

Right click on the document and select Open with-Adobe Acrobat. Or right click on the document and select get info, go to the open with drop down menu and select Acrobat. If you want all documents of that type to open with Acrobat check the box.

  • Open all PDF using Preview instead of Adobe Reader

I recently install Adobe Reader and now all files are opening with Adobe Reader instead of Preview. I want to change the default to Preview for all PDF files. I did choose open with option key down... so that I can select open with... and then chose the option "always open with...". However this only changes the default application for the single file I chose and not to ALL PDF files. When I try to open any random PDF file, it defaults to Adobe Reader, even AFTER I selected "always open with... Preview" on a difference file. Any ideas on how I can make sure the Preview opens for ALL PDF files as default?
    Thanks,
    Orlando - Chicago, IL

Have you made the change in the get info window? Control click on a PDF and choose get info. Scroll down to change all and click on that:

  • Force PDFs to open in Preview instead of Safari?

When I click on a .pdf link in Safari, it opens up in the browser as part of Acrobat Professional. How can I instead have it automatically open in Preview (which is much faster, less bloated)?

    Hi
First open Acrobat Professional. Open Preferences. Change the PDF viewer default.
Next, go to the Finder: Internet Plug-ins folder in either the main or User Library. Remove the Adobe PDF plug-in. Restart Safari.
PDF should now open in Safari. If you want to save or print it, right or control click to access the contextual menu. You can also port the PDF to Preview via the Contextual Menu.

  • Acrobat Form in preview instead of opening document

I have created and acrobat fom that is used by our sakes force to brief the design department. The design department like s to just select the form and hit the space bar to preview the form, at a glance, instead of opening the document - the problem is all the check boxes are displayed as checked and the text fields appear empty... thus forcing the designer to open the document where everything is as it should be. My question is can the preview function be reflect the document as it was filled out? i hope i'm making sense here.

Do you understand how "preview" in Windows Explorer or Mac Finder works?
As part of the metatdata of a file, there can be an image of the file in the Jpeg format. This image is created when the file is created but in most cases is updated as changes are made to the file. This lack of processing has lead to some interesting preview image of pictures that have been cropped and assumed to have embarrassing portions removed..
I one wants the preview image to be update, then one needs to create a new image preview jpeg. and replace the jpeg in the metadara for the file.
Metadata includes things like the creation date, modification date, author, document title and other things.
PDFs have their very own unique set of metadata.

  • Web links open Preview instead of Safari

My mum has a Mac mini running 10.3.9 and it's developed this problem: when she clicks, a link to a web page (in an email for example), instead of the the page opening in Safari, the application Preview starts up (with no document open) instead.
Here's what I've done, none of which has made any difference:
Used Disk Utility to repair permissions (twice) and restarted.
I opened Safari, went to a website then dragged the URL to the desktop to make a webloc file. When I double-clicked this file, Preview started up. I Got Info on the file and its default app was Finder. I changed this to Safari and checked 'Change all'. Get info on the file now shows Safari as its default app, but double-clicking the file still starts Preview, not Safari. If I CNTRL-click the file and choose 'Open with' and choose 'Safari (default)', the file does open with Safari. But if I double-click it - or click any link in any app. which should normally open a webpage in Safari - Safari is unaffected and Preview starts up instead.
I'm stumped. Any ideas what I should do next?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve = : ^ )

    Hi Steve,
In addition to Niel's advice above, you might want to take this opportunity to download a more internet compatible browser for your mother to use such as Camino 1.6.10 (freeware). Make sure to download the 1.6.10 for 10.3.9 OS. Safari v1.3.2 for 10.3.9 cannot be upgraded any further whereas Camino was updated by it's developers further for 10.3.9 and will handle many more web features that Safari 1.3.2 can no longer handle.
If your mother prefers Safari, for some reason, she will need to upgrade the OS to a later version, by purchasing a later retail version to handle newer web features and changes to internet sites. That will allow her to use a later version of the Safari browser.
10.3.9 works fine, though, for most usage and Camino is an excellent browser. So if you don't see the need to upgrade the OS at this point Camino can be customized to look and feel almost identical to Safari 1.3.2 albeit with the addition of how it handles more modern internet features using 10.3.9.
You likewise, as with Safari, can change the default web browser to Camino, similarly, once downloaded.
    Hope that helps some,
    LS

  • Usual preview instead of custom preview after canceling of step.

    Hi.
I try to made workitem with dialog, like Form step. Macros u201Cexit_cancelledu201D used in method in case of user cancel form.
Also u201CAdaptation work item preview in Business Workplaceu201D function assigned to step.
SBWP preview shows screen from my preview function at first selection of step. But standard preview appear after execution of step when step canceled.
Is any idea how to show custom preview after cancellation.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi again.
I repeat that error without programming.
Create new workflow. Add any small structure to container. In my case it has a type BAPI_DRAWKEY.
    Add Form step.
    In Form step:
Assign self as handler. Set «Action» = display. Generate new screen to the clear function group. On the tab u201CWork item Displayu201D set u201CAdaptation of work item preview in Business Workplace Function Moduleu201D equals SWL0_PREVIEW_DEMO_HTML (it from demo button).
    Activate workflow and run.
    Complete workflow.
Go to the transaction SBWP. Open folder Outbox -> Work items executed by me. Find and select test step.
Preview will show HTML from FM SWL0_PREVIEW_DEMO_HTML (u201CThis could be your own HTML document...u201D).
Press button u201CDisplayu201D and get out from step by button u201CBacku201D.
Preview will show usual form u201CTips & tricks: u2026u201D instead of HTML from FM SWL0_PREVIEW_DEMO_HTML.
What can I do to resolve it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • "File New Photoshop File" opens Preview instead

    Hi there!
I am posting this question, because i couldn't find any solution in the FAQs or within PremierePro CS5.5. Plus i trust, that there's someone out there that knows the answer...
Thing is, in a normal sequence I choose File > New > Photoshop File and Premiere asks the normal question about filesize and so on. BUT instead of opening Photoshop (I have PS CS4), it opens the Program "Preview". Which doesn't help much since in preview you cannot even draw anything. I checked if i can just change that setting somehow to open Photoshop but no success...
Anybody familiar with this? Would be great!
    Thanks,
    Syrtah

Ok, then a little bit more precise:
I am inside PremierePro CS 5.5 and there exists a function in the file menu (Link as above: File > New > Photoshop File...) that directly opens a photoshop document with the size, pixel aspect ratio and framerate of my current Premiere sequence. So i click on that and Premiere is supposed to open Photoshop. Instead it opens a program, that is called "Preview" (i'm working on a MAC, i forgot to mention that before, sorry). Now Preview is only good vor previews and not for editing images.
To put it in other words, my problem is, that Premiere should open Photoshop and generate a new file fitting to my sequence, but instead it opens Preview.
Of course, I could open a new PSD-File in Photoshop but then i would have to manually type in the size of the image and so on. And since there is a built-in feature in Premiere, i would like to use that instead of going the long way.
So basically i am searching for the place where i can "tell" Premiere which graphics program to open.

  • Adobe reader logo on file preview instead of actual preview of pic of scanned item

when I scan a pic into pc & SAVE it as a pdf, how it is viewed in my file explorer files ("my computer") is w an ADOBE logo. I want to view actual file (actual pic). For example, When I open MY COMPUTER to go into MY DOCS, I see the new scan but it is cloaked by the adobe logo, I have to open it all the way up (in paint or another program) to see what the pic is. How can I change this?
    further explanation:
when I want to view the item in my file folder: I go to file explorer ("my computer") then I open My Docs. When I view all the items I've scanned, the only thing I see for each file is an adobe logo for the scanned file. I do not want to see the logo, I want to see the actual photo in the preview

Thank you for your help.  I contacted Kodak online chat and they couldn't figure it out.  I also used nitro pro 8 (another PDF maker) and I can see the actual file pic preview (not as icon, icon shows up @ bottom of pic but I can actually see the picture).
    Also, to "Pat":
i saved them as PDF (searchable). i set the display as detailed thumbnails already - still issues. i also changed a few things, and this was the process:
    opened file explorer ("My COmputer")
    Selected "view" category
"options" ---to sub-category: change folder and search options
In folder options, selected "view" tab
And in advanced settings, Under "file and folders"
    Display file icon on thumbnails
i turned it off then, i selected "apply to all folders", i closed file explorer, scanned somethg & went back to file explorer & it was still showing up as adobe icon, no picture of actual pic of item i scanned.
thank you both. is it a WINDOWS 8 issue?
