Previous saved bookmarks.html files were almost twice the size. If I rely on this much smaller folder for saving my I may lose bookmark data. Can someone explain why my folder is now suddenly so much smaller?

Since I upgraded to 3.6.3 my bookmarks folder has become nearly half the size upon exporting it in html format. I normally refresh my working copy of Mozilla by saving the bookmarks and then erasing all aspects of Firefox and starting over from scratch. I am concerned that if I rely upon this smaller folder I may be losing data. Can someone tell me what is happening here? It could be that this is just an improvement in Firefox but I do not know how to test the waters to see if all my data is saved.

Are you comparing the size of the bookmarks.html file that is exported from Firefox 3.6.3 to a bookmarks.html file that was exported from earlier versions of Firefox?
Really shouldn't be a difference, there hasn't been a change to Firefox regarding the bookmarks.html file in years.

  • FCP file sizes are twice the size of Quicktime's - any advantage to FCP?

When I capture footage from my Canon HV40 MiniDV using FCP, the file sizes are almost twice the size as when I capture using Quicktime's Device Native setting. Is there any advantage to capturing with FCP, as the quality seems the same in QT? Or is there a way to reduce the file size being captured in FCP?
I'd like to be able to capture in FCP because if there is a dropped frame in the recording, Quicktime stops recording, whereas FCP keeps going and starts a new file. But the larger file size in FCP puts me off.

Not all codecs are editable...meaning, not all work in an editing application. I'm not sure what "device native" captures as in QT. Does it say in GET INFO? But FCP captures HDV and DV native, but in a native format that it can work with. HDV comes in as HDV...Dv as DV.
I wouldn't trust what QT is capturing as DEVICE NATIVE. And 13GB/hour of footage is not that much. That's the lowest data rate format out there.

There is no difference in the two files. They are both DV Stream (.dv).
If you look in the Movie Properties window you'll notice that both tracks (audio and video) have the same file size.
Obviously, this can't mean that the audio track is really as large as the video track in data size. It means that the only way QuickTime can "separate" the stream into two editable tracks is to duplicate them (but ignore the video playback of the audio track portion).
I don't use Final Cut but I would suspect it might make two files (audio and video) instead of a single file made by QuickTime Player Pro.
    Confusing, isn't it?

  • Since updating to FF 3.6.12 on my iMac, I have lost all my bookmarks, cannot make new bookmarks and cannot import from a saved bookmarks.html file, even after re-installing the program.

Running under mac OS X 10.5.8
    Menu bar is present
    Torbutton extension not present
Navigation buttons did not work, until I re-isntalled FF
FF "unable to restore backup file "- applies to all bookmark backup files
I next tried importing the bookmarks.html file I created last year to export them to my new notebook. 3.6.12 fails to import them back again.
The home page set in my preferences does not now come up when I load FF.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I pulled the bookmarks html file off of my computer after it crashed, and am trying to get my old bookmarks into firefox. How does one do that?

When my computer crashed, we managed to recover a bunch of the files and information from it. One of the files we pulled was the bookmarks.html from the firefox folder. The computer was running on Vista when it crashed, and I now have it running 7 Professional. The file is recorded as a Chrome html file on the new computer, and when I click on it, it pulls up a basic html page within Chrome or firefox that has links to the firefox website (kind of like a webpage version of the bookmarks folder from the toolbar, but without any of the bookmark adding capabilities). I'd like to get my old bookmarks loaded into firefox. Help?

Firefox hasn't used the '''bookmarks.html''' file for storing bookmarks since the Firefox 2 versions, in 2008. Later versions use '''places.sqlite''' for bookmarks and history. What you have is the default file that Firefox uses on new installations and new Profiles, which has like 6 bookmarks.

  • Manual backup of bookmark json file is empty, export of bookmark html file "self-deletes"

I'm now using Firefox 17.0.11esr in Win 7 at work and 26.0 in Win XP at home. I tried 24.2.0esr at work, but had to return to the earlier version, because of this problem below, which also happens with my home machine:
I cannot save, manually or automatically, a usable bookmarks json file for use as a backup. The files are always empty.
When I try to export a bookmarks html file, it begins to create and save it, but then "self-deletes" it before it's done.
Why is this a problem with 24.2.0esr and 26.0, but not 17.0.11esr? What can I do about it?
    Thanks

You can try to create a new profile and keep both profiles open at the same time.<br />
You can do that by starting the second instance with the -no-remote command line switch (see further down).
Then you can do a copy and paste of the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) from the current profile to the Library of the new profile to create a new places.sqlite database file.<br />
If that works then you can copy this places.sqlite file to your current profile folder.<br />
You will lose the history, but it is possible to copy history items to a bookmarks folder in the new profile.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
You can also opt to keep using the new profile and transfer some files from the old profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

  • Combining bookmarks .html files, and sorting

    Hi,
    (1) I know how to import bookmarks, but, once I import all of my bookmark .html files, (have 6)... than I go to show all bookmarks, I have 6 "unsorted bookmarks" folder tabs, and one "unsorted bookmarks" tab of my current bookmarks. How do I combine all of these into 1 giant .html file? Or is it automatically combined once I imported, to where I can export and it'll have all 6 old .html files and my current bookmarks?
    (2) I know how to sort bookmarks, and I like sorting by "location", but is there a way to export as .html file so it saves the .html book mark file by "location"?
    (3) In the .html file there is some sub description for each bookmark, such as "Twitter is a social networking site, where users tweet to other users blah blah", is there any way to delete this? I'd like it only to display the bookmark name and the URL (usually I'll have to click on the name and it'll open up the website), but I like the website to be typed out.

-1- <br />Yes all those bookmarks.html files will be merged into Firefox, and when you 'export' from Firefox those 6 files will be in one html file. No those extra 'unsorted bookmarks' folders won't be automatically combined, you need to do that yourself.
-2-<br />No, 'location' sorting isn't reflected in an exported bookmarks.html file. That type of 'sort' is temporary in the Library view, and doesn't rearrange bookmarks in the places.sqlite file which is what is exported in html format. <br />
Save this code as a Bookmarklet and click on it to make an HTML page editable. <pre><nowiki> javascript:document.body.contentEditable='true';%20document.designMode='on';%20void%200</nowiki></pre>
Once the page is 'editable', you will be able to cut and paste bookmarks from one place on the page to another.
-3-<br/>This code when run in the URL bar ''(or saved as a bookmarklet)'' while a bookmarks.html file is being displayed in Firefox will strip the extraneous information from that bookmarks file. Just save the bookmarks file when the 'strip' is completed.
    <pre><nowiki>javascript:%20(function(){%20var%20ls=document.getElementsByTagName('*'),%20lsl=ls.length;%20for%20(var%20i=0;%20i<lsl;%20i++)%20{l=ls[i];%20l.removeAttribute('id');%20l.removeAttribute('last_charset');%20l.removeAttribute('icon');%20l.removeAttribute('ICON_URI');l.removeAttribute('last_modified');%20l.removeAttribute('last_visit');%20l.removeAttribute('add_date');%20l.removeAttribute('personal_toolbar_folder');}%20var%20e=document.getElementsByTagName('dd');%20el=e.length;%20for(var%20i=el-1;i>=0;i--)%20e[i].parentNode.removeChild(e[i]);%20alert('Cleanup%20Complete%20-%20Save%20as%20Web%20Page,%20Complete\n'+'('+lsl+'%20bookmarks,%20'+el+'%20descriptions)')})();</nowiki></pre>

  • Where is the bookmarks.html file ?

My customers PC crashed. I try to copy the Bookmarks to a new PC. I can not find the right bookmarks.html file, only the default and th bookmarkbackups directory with those *.json files.
BTW: is there some intelligible reason, why the bookmark file of Firefox as well as the mail-directories in Thunderbird are in a directory structure hidden from the user ?!

Hiding the appdata or roaming path in Windows is Microsoft's doing, not Mozilla. Other than IE, every other browser I have ever used has stored bookmarks in their own set of folders in the appdata or roaming file path.
The bookmarks.html file hasn't been used for storing since the Firefox 2.0 versions, in later versions it is used to install the default bookmarks primarily when the user creates a new Profile and upon the initial installation of Firefox, and it also is part of the process of "importing" bookmarks from other browsers the user may have installed.
The '''places.sqlite''' file is where bookmarks and browsing history is stored in Firefox 3.0 and later versions.

  • Where can i find bookmarks.html file in firefox 10

where can i find bookmarks.html file in firefox 10, so that i can customize a new firefox setup.

cor-el, i tried this...it is working but it is add the new bookmarks to the default one (i want to override the bookmarks not to add them to the default).
And finally i solved the problem as the following:
    1- install the firefox.
2- change the bookmarks manually (delete the old one and add the links you want).
3- package your work into dmg file.
Yes as simple as that :D
Thank you all for your help.

  • Exporting bookmark.html file

In Firefox 5 on exporting HTML files, two unnecessary elements are included for each web page entry; namely, <DT><A HREF="http://www ... ICON_URI=" ... /favicon.ico" ICON="data:image/png;base64 , ... </A>
These two elements (ICON_URI and ICON) add significantly to the storage size of the bookmarks.html file which keeps getting larger and larger.
These two elements are not necessary in my opinion. Please remove those two elements: the ICON_URI=" ... /favicon.ico" and the ICON="data:image/png;base64 , from the bookmarks.html file structure; or at least give an option for their inclusion or not in the exported HTML file.

you did not finish you sentence.
The exported file contains additional information relating to bookmarks that you do not see when viewing the file, including the links, but also the favicons in a bitmap and as a link, and and some timestamp information, the purpose is to transfer bookmarks between two browsers.

  • Photoshop files twice the size they actually are & Crashes for no reason (CS5 on OS X Yosemite)

After upgrading to Yosemite, my adobe products didn't work. I upgraded some java plugins and was able to solve the problem on both of my computers. Now, about a month later, my Photoshop design files are twice the size of data Photoshop says they are. I do alot of graphic design at 300 dpi, so I understand the size these files should be, and a file that used to be 25 MB is not like 127 MB for no reason. And when trying to add an irregular paper size, Photoshop has started crashing due to NSInvalidArgumentException:
Anyone have ideas to fix this issue? I can't find anything about this online. Thank you to anyone who can shed some light on this!

First of all: You rock for responding so quickly! Thank you.
So your thought is, I should wait it out and Apple will probably take care of the issue? I do "send report" when the crash happens.
Do you think there is a save option I'm hitting (and don't know) causing the files to be so big as .psd? Even when their flattened, I can't get the sizes down to normal. I haven't changed what I'm doing, and all of the sudden each design file is ending up in the hundreds of MBs instead of around 25MB or less.
I really appreciate your expertise on this!

  • Program to read html file and to open the links in that html file

program to read html file and to open the links in that html file..
ex:- to read automatically all next links in the html file and save it hard disk

    Start here;

It gives you all of the information you need to parse the HTML file using the HTMLEditorKit that is a part of the Java SDK.
Once you get the links from the file, then you can think about connecting to each.

  • Why is Data Size in QT inspector twice the size of the file?

I am not asking this to save space. I am just curious. When playing a dv (captured from camera) clip, I notice that the QT inspector shows data size about twice the size of the dv clip size in file system. Is it because the dv is compressed and QT decompresses?
Actually, on clip in QT shows 22GB which is impossible to fit on a miniDV tape.

You'll notice that a DV Stream file has two tracks (audio and video) of the same size when viewed in QuickTime Movie Inspector or the Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro.
Obviously the audio track shouldn't be the same size as the video track. There are separated from the single stream to allow editing.

Latest version of Lightroom will not download RAW files from my D750. How does one get around this? Bought Lightroom for it's ability to manage RAW files and now very disappointed.

Here is the contents of a batch file which will convert whatever raws you drop on it:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe DNG Converter" -cr7.1 -dng1.4 -p0 %*
Once you download the latest converter (release candidate from adobe labs, if necessary), and save the appropriate contents of the batch file (change path to match your system, and parameters to match your druthers, if applicable), the procedure is:
    1. Drop raw files on bat file.
    2. Import as usual (the DNGs).
Not too bad once you're set up (if DNG converter supports your raws).
    Documentation:
    http://wwwimages.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/photoshop/pdfs/dng_commandline.pd f
Note: on Mac, you may need to use "$@" (with the double-quotes) instead of %* (which is dos batch syntax), and you will need to use the full path to the converter executable file, e.g.
    “/Applications/Adobe DNG Converter.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe DNG Converter”
If too much, just use the GUI instead of the bat file.
