Priniting Java output in Excel

Does anyone know if it is possible to tell a java application to output data to an Excel file as oppose to notepad?
If it is possible could you let me know how.
Thanks

I assume you won't start Excel (and don't start notepad now), but simply want an export file format that Excel can understand.
I would choose the CSV, means:
ASCII text, each record is a line with each field delimited by a ";"
Avoid ";" inside your data. If you must have ";" in there, you must fugure out, how to quote them:
as ";;" or as "\;"

  • Getting output in excel sheet from jsp file

    Hi,
    I am a new programmer. I am trying to get output in excel sheet by clicking a link on page. I have used that 2 statements
    response.setContentType("application/x-download");
    response.setContentType("application/Octet-Stream");
    response.setHeader("Content- disposition","inline;filename=refdsxresults.xls");
    But it is giving an empty excel sheet. I don't know how to put the data in that sheet which is retrieved by using the query below.
    "select p.port_no,p.block_no,p.slot_no,p.channel_no,p.ref_no,"+
    "p.rr,c.card_type,c.work_or_protect,p.port_status_code,p.tr_id,"+

    "sid.work_order_number,sid.pon_a,sid.pon_z,"+
    "sid.circuit_id,sid.account_name,sid.account_no,sid.order_no,sid.item_no,"+
    "sid.a_city_code,sid.z_city_code,p.parent_port_no "+
    "from eon_port p,eon_card c,sonet_item_detail sid "+
    "where p.logical_flag='N' and p.card_no*=c.card_no and "+
    "p.current_path_no*=sid.path_no and sid.action!='DISC' and sid.item_status!='CN' "+
    "and p.equip_no="+equipNumber+
    " order by p.ref_no";
    and also can I use the HTML to get this result in the browser. Could you please give an example. I need it urgently.
    Thanks in advance

    In an earlier post, somebody was saying that you can use regular HTML tables to output an XLS file. I've never tried it, so I don't know it to be true, but give it a look:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=45&thread=407280&tstart=0&trange=15
    If that doesn't work, you can always return a CSV file (comma seperated values).

  • Setting filename sending output to Excel form servlet

    Hi All
    I am successfully sending my tab separated output to Excel from the servlet using the following:
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","inline;filename=statistics.txt");
    The output is automatically opened in a new window using excel.
    However the sheet in excel is named based on the url of the servlet it came from, not statistics as i have specified. The main issue with this, apart from the niceness of it, is that if the user then generates another excel output from the same servlet then the new file is not loaded as excel already has a file by that name open and can't handle duplicate names.
    I have seen many references to this syntax, but it doesn't quite work for me.
    I hope someone can clarify what i am missing here.
    Thanks in advance.

  • XML Publisher report default output in Excel format.

    Hi,
    We have defined one concurrent program whose output format is text, this concurrent program executable is PL/SQL and in this PL/SQL program we are generating XML data and displaying XML using below fnd_request.
    l_conc_id := FND_REQUEST.SUBMIT_REQUEST('GMP','GMPPDROP','', '',FALSE,
         p_sequence_num,chr(0),'','','','','','','','','','','',
    We have also defined template for this.
    Using below fnd_request we are choosing template and data is getting generated in PDF format. Now our requirement is to display the output by default in Excel format.
    FND_REQUEST.SUBMIT_REQUEST('XDO','XDOREPPB','', '',FALSE,'',
    l_conc_id,554,G_comb_pdr_temp,
    G_comb_pdr_locale,'Y','RTF','',scale_report,'','','','','',
    When i saw XML Report Publisher concurrent program, there is one parameter for Output Format and i tried passing 'Excel'/EXCEL/excel to this parameter but output is still coming in PDF format.
    FND_REQUEST.SUBMIT_REQUEST('XDO','XDOREPPB','', '',FALSE,'',
    l_conc_id,554,G_comb_pdr_temp,
    G_comb_pdr_locale,'Y','RTF','Excel',scale_report,'','','','','',
    I have also tried giving Default Output to EXCEL in template definition but this is also not working.
    Your valuable suggestions highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Vijay

  • Sending report output to Excel

    Dear buddies
    I'm using OLE Object in my report to send its output to excel. I find this way from an example at the same forum. But I feel that this example is for very small sized reports which have to send a few cells to excel because in this method we've to map each boiler plate and data field to excel like this.
    function B_DEPTNOFormatTrigger return boolean is
    begin
    RPT2XLS.put_cell(1, 'DEPTNO', FontColor => 10, FontSize => 8, FontStyle => RPT2XLS.BOLD);
    RPT2XLS.new_line;
    return (TRUE);
    end;
    In this way its very hard to map large reports to excel which have more than 50 or 60 data fields and labels. So is there any short way to send its output to excel. Be careful that I also dont wanna use Delimited option coz Delimited file has also to be formatted while importing to Excel. Is there anyway that OLE Object should automatically detect all my Report Labels and fields or some other solution in yours minds???

    If you are using 10g reports you can use the latest parameter desformat=spreadsheet

  • How to Generate HTML Report Output in Excel

    Dear Experts,
    How to convert HTML report output in Excel.
    I have reports which output is coming in HTML format & the same I want to use in Excel.
    So tell me how I can covert the same in Excel.
    Thanks
    Sudhir

    hello,
    in your case, you might want to make the following :
    a) use DESFORMAT=HTML
    b) use MIMETYPE=application/vnd.msexcell (or whatever mimetype your excel application is bound to)
    i am nor sure if excel will understeand our HTMLCSS (which is actually HTML4.0 using layers for best possible rendering of the paper page in the browser).

  • Is it possible to display a date as (DD-MON-YYYY) in excel output using excel template in xml publisher

    Is it possible to display a date as (DD-MON-YYYY) in excel output using excel template in xml publisher where date should be displayed as date only not string.

    I've tried to use hierarchy node variables, but it seems like you can't specify a attribute of the hierarchy such as level.  So with the WBS hierarchy, if you create a hierarchy node variable, you specify the WBS value to select (If I understand this correctly).  I wish I could instead specify "give me all the WBS nodes that happen to have the value of the level attribute greater or equal to 3.  If I understand Juergens post, he is saying make security access so that only certain WBS levels can be returned in the query.  I suppose we can try that, but that would then preclude getting the level 1 and 2 in the future if the authorization is global.

  • Xml report output in excel format without using options tab in EBS

    How to get xml publisher report output in excel format without using options tab in EBS?
    I am getting XML Publisher report output in excel format by using options tab while submitting the concurrent request .
    But i want to get excel output automatically.
    Can anyone give idea to get XML publisher Report output in excel without selecting options tab.
    Thanks in advance
    Sandeep V

    Hey Sandeep,
    I am working on a similar format for a report and if possible can you please give me some guidelines. I have initially created reports using XML Publisher, but for those , the output preview format was PDF. So, if I select the preview format as EXCEL will it give me output in Excel and for this to happen, how do I define the rtf template. I believe the working will be same as for PDF, create a rdf report, get output in XML and apply the template to get the data in Excel or there is something different to this.
    Thanks,
    Sunil

  • Report output in Excel

    Hi,
    I am stuck in an issue and need some guidance.
    I have developed a paper report in 10g. I modified the web source and added a frame to display the report in web browser.
    I updated the web source as below to display the output in excel format.
    <%@ page contentType="application/vnd.ms-excel;charset=ISO-8859-1" %>.
    I tried to set
    desformat = SPREADSHEET and delimited both.
    I can see the report in web browser; however I am not able to display it as EXCEL format.
    Please guide me.
    Regards
    Satya

    Hello Satya,
    application/vnd.ms-excel is the MIME type for a binary (proprietary) format that MS uses as default up to version Excel 2000. desformat = SPREADSHEET does not create a binary file, but a representation of the data in a tabular format.
    I am not able to display it as EXCEL formatOracle Reports cannot generate any format defined by Microsoft. For options how to generate "Excel" files see {message:id=9360007}.

    Marcus
