Print on client machine

Hi,
I deployed my web application on linux machine.I have a print action to be performed.So the print function is in the web application.
The print function gets called an the print job is done at the default printer on linux machine.
But i need the print job to be printed at the client machine,which is a windows machine.So the print job needs to be performed at the windows default printer or client default printer.

But i need the print job to be printed at the client machine,which is a windows machine.So the print job needs to be performed at the windows default printer or client default printer.I think the question is not clear enough.

    Swapnil,
    There are a lot of posts about this. I suggest you search the Forms Forum for 'WebUtil default printer' and see if you can find some that has solved this issue.
    Sorry, I could be more helpful. I started looking through these posts myself and finally decided I was the wrong person doing the search! :-)

    You never delete a Time Machine backup by dragging it to the Trash. You are supposed to use the TM application to manage the backups. What you will need to do now is to simply erase the drive using Disk Utility.

  • PACKAGE PLSQL to control client machine

    Hi,
    Is there a PLSQL package ( JAVA encapsulated I thing ) to get some informations of client machine or print on client machine using IP address of the machine and/or printer.
    Thanks a lot
    Romeo.

    What client information?
    Remember that the database is a server. It can service any number of very different clients. It can be Delphi, Java, Powerbuilder or C# clients.. or command line clients like SQL*Plus... or developer clients like TOAD, Tora, SQL-Developer... and these clients can be running on Windows, Linux, Unix, Apple Mac.. and they can be using TCP, IPX or even LU6.2.
    Or the client could be a server.. like a Jboss or Weblogic server.. or another database server.
    Etc.
    Do the server need to know anything about the client in order to service the client? The server gets a SQL from a Powerbuilder app on Windows send via TCP. Does this SQL look different from a SQL from a SQL*Plus command line tool on an IBM mainframe, send via LU6.2?
    SQL is SQL. PL/SQL is PL/SQL. And that is what the Oracle server receives and executes. All clients are equal in the eyes of the Oracle server.
    Given this, why would the server need information about the client and why? The Oracle server session (shadow process) that services a client does not need to know anything about the client. No need.
    Even so, when the Oracle client connects, the connection string (from the client) contains some data about the client. This is added to the connection string by the client's Oracle driver (and of course, can be spoofed). This includes information like executable name, o/s user name and so on.
    When the Listener hands off the connection to Oracle (either by starting a dedicated server process or talking to a dispatcher process), it passes this connection data along. This is stored by these processes in the SGA - and can be viewed using the V$SESSION virtual view.
    Client data such as the following is stored as a 'for your information only':
    - Client Operating system client user name
    - Client Operating system client process ID
    - Client Operating system machine name
    - Client Operating system terminal name
    - Client Operating system program name
    The USERENV context can be used to get the client's IP address and Hostname, e.g.
    select SYS_CONTEXT( 'USERENV', 'HOST' ), SYS_CONTEXT( 'USERENV', 'IP_ADDRESS' ) from dual
    That in a nutshell is what client info is kept by an Oracle server process.
    As for PL/SQL code in Oracle using this data..? Yes, it can be useful as long as one remember that the client supplied it, and could have been lying. The data is untrusted data.
    As for using this data to make a connection to the client? Not a good idea. This changes the PL/SQL code into a client, and the client into a server. This can be problematic ito firewalls, network connectivity, security and so on.
    For example, for the PL/SQL to use the client's printer, the code will need to know what type of network shared printer it is. The PL/SQL code may very likely need to authenticate against the client (or a Windows Domain Controller) to access that client's printer.
    This makes the complexity of the PL/SQL (or Java stored procs) all the more complexed.
    Why?
    Surely it is the client application's responsibility and job to serve as interface between the database and the client platform! It is the application's job to take data from the database server and present that to the client. As a graph, shiny table with pretty colours.. or as a printout on the local printer.

  • Accessing print services in the client machine(browser)

    Query: We had migrated a forms-3 form to forms-6i. The forms-3 form used a userexit to call a related Pro*C functionality that helped finally to print the report file generated during the process into the client machine's printer.
    How do we take care of this functionality in forms-6i? That is, the user should be able to do the printing from the forms screen in the browser..
    Please help..

    Thank you for replying..
    We have earlier tried the web.show_document procedure to call the .html or .txt file....But in forms-3(back-end on a UNIX server with the Pro*Cs), an ascii file was created at the server side in the client's home directory, and this file was accessed and used from the front-end machine(a UNIX terminal or a QVTTerm like application on Windows), to be printed out onto the printer device configured on the client machine...As in your reply, through web.show_document also the printing can be finally done..But the user has to wait for the new browser window to get opened and show the content and then print it...These steps were not needed in forms-3, that is, on a click of the print-related-button, it did the job...So, in the same way, can something be done on the forms-6i form(use a printer-javabean or something else), to get the functionality???
    Please help..

  • Printing a report directly to the printer on the client machine

    Hi All,
    I am migrating reports from 6i to 10g, all these reports are called from menu and some from forms. There are some reports which are directly sent to the printer for printing. My question is when we run those reports that are sent directly to the printer from OAS, Can we make it refer to the printer set up on the client machine?. Can any one let me know regarding this?.
    Regards,
    Prasad.

    Check out the orarrp utility (Oracle Reports Remote Printing Utility) on Metalink, note 277431.1.
    It may be easier in the end to set up printers on the OAS. I guess that client PC's are using network printers, or are the really using printers connected directly to the PC?

    I tried that solution. but I am not getting any printer list.

  • Send 10g reports directly to the default printer of the client machine

    Hello..
    We are using Oracle DS10g and Forms & Reports service 10g. When the user clicks on the report button I want to send the report directly to the default printer installed in the client machine. In this case the printer name may vary and I cannot parameterize the DESNAME parameter. How do i know what is the default printer? Any clue as to how can achieve the desired result?
    Thanks

    If you use webutil in your shop. You can use the CLient_win_api_environment.read_registry to get the default printer. In the run_report_object, desname gets set to the default printer.
    This can also be found in metalink.
                   V_PRINTER := CLIENT_WIN_API_ENVIRONMENT.READ_REGISTRY('HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows','Device',TRUE);
                   V_PRINTER_LENGTH := LENGTH(V_PRINTER);
                   V_PRINTER_BLANK :=     INSTR(V_PRINTER, ',');
                   IF V_PRINTER_LENGTH > 0 AND V_PRINTER_BLANK = 0 THEN
                        :P_OUTPUT_FILE := V_PRINTER;
                   ELSIF V_PRINTER_LENGTH > V_PRINTER_BLANK THEN
                   :P_OUTPUT_FILE := SUBSTR(V_PRINTER, 0 , (INSTR(V_PRINTER, ',')-1 ));

  • Saving The Report File (PDF) on Client Machine/PC

    Hi Everyone,
    I am using Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2). I have a form that calls a report (both forms and report version are 10.1.2) with ASYNCHRONOUS option and creates a file in PDF format. The report is running fine and is creating the PDF file fine BUT on the application server.
    I need to know if there is a possibility of either creating the file on the client machine/pc or transferring the file from application server to client PC. I would prefer the first option that is to create the file on client PC so the client can print or browse the report later. The second option would be ok if there is no solution for first option but I am assuming that it would take twice as much time. First to create the report on Application Server then to transfer the file from AS to client PC.
    I have already included webutil library and object library but could not find a way to save the file on client PC using any of the APIs.
    I would appreciate if some one provide me detail information. I mean syntax on how to either create the file on client PC or how to transfer the file created on application server to client PC. I would like to know where the report is created on Application server as the path will be required for transfer.
    Thanks in advance.
    Khalid

    Instead of just creating the file, open the file in a
    browser using rwservlet. That way the client can see
    it and save in his PC whenever he wants to.
    Try:
    ...write code to get report id...you must be already
    having this...
    then continue....
    :global.report_server_name:=<servername>;
    reports_servelet:='/reports/rwservlet';
    REPORT_MESSAGE := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(REPORT_ID);
    vjob_id :=
    substr(report_message,length(:global.report_server_na
    e)+2,length(report_message));
    hidden_action :=
    reports_servelet||'/'||'getjobid'||vjob_id||'?server='
    ||:global.report_server_name;
                                       --WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(hidden_action);
    Basically you get the objid for the report you ran
    and open it in the browser.
    Hope this helps.Hi,
    First of all thanks for you kind reply. Actaully user has an option to preview report and it is working fine. The reports run and display under browser as either PDF or HTML depending on option selected by user. These reports can be saved on client machine without any problem as you mentioned.
    The problem with this form is that as soon as it execute the report it exit out of form. So the reports that are previewed run under SYNCHRONOUS mode and reports that are creating files run in ASYNCHORONOUS mode. I can run preview reports also in ASYNCHOROUS mode and I have already tried it by creating TIMER and WHEN_TIMER-EXPIRED trigger and commenting EXIT_FORM built-in. But as mentioned since the form exit out WHEN_TIME_EXPIRED does not fire and it does not display the report on the browser. I can see the status of the report in print queue when it is finished successfully.
    If the report is not displayed after running in ASYNCHOROUS mode then I will be unable to save the file. That is the reason we created the FILE creation option and thought we will find a way to create/save the file on client PC but I am having hard time to do that.
    I am sure I have made myself clear. Bottom line is that previewing a report in a browse is an option but will not work for long reports and if we run in background then it will not display in a browser as form exits after calling the run_report_object to run report so WHEN-TIMER-EXPIRED is not there to show the report when it is finished.
    Thanks

  • How to setup iCal on a Lion server and its client machines?

    I recently bought a new mini server (running Lion) in order to share our iCal calenders (like in the Apple presentations). I thought this would be an easy process but apparently it isn't. So what was I already able to achieve:
    1) Set up 5 different clients (on the Lion server), with corresponding e-mailadresses and passwords.
    2) Activated iCal on the server preference window (ical: on)
    3) Tried to add the user a account on one of the five client machines => HERE it goes wrong.
    My main issue is that I'm not able to add a user account on a client machine and have it connected to the server.
    It would be really nice if someone could assist me with it.
    Warm Regards

    I posted additional information  online using the newly created Launchpad login Service account.
    I hope that explains my situation, if not I will add more detail here.
    There is no problem, when ither of the two OS are used to enable printing with the HP Deskjet 2050 J510 series printer.
    The problem begins when I try to print from the other OS , when connected to one of the Operating System.
    I have tried without success to print from Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS from an HP Deskjet 2050 J510 series connected to a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server with Amahi (HDA), installed.
    The same thing occurred when I tried to print from the Ubuntu server and the printer was connected to the Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit running P.C.

  • What are the Client machine requirements for running Forms 6i?

    What are the minimum/ideal hardware requirements of the client machines which run forms 6i in separate frames.
    The reason for asking this is that the users have multiple sessions of separate Forms frames. When they do a lot of activity/transactions, and try to do a windows Print Screen on a MSWord file, nothing seems to print on the Word document. If they save the document and reboot the computer and open the same word document again then the screen print shows up. I am thinking it is because the separate frames take up lot of RAM. Typical configurations of our m/c are PII 400's with 64MB RAM.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Lionel,
    As a general rule of thumb, the ATI Rage 128 Pro will not support a 20" LCD. That being said, there are reports of it doing just that (possibly the edition that went into the cube).
    I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the Cube, so I can't give you authoritative information on it.

    ftp.But the problem is we dont have any permission to create ant file in our production environment .
    Is there is any process or utility on which i can build on my previous approach to get my csv file on my client
    machine directly.
    The answer to this question is the question.. What is client-server?*
    PL/SQL, SQL, Oracle, database ... all these equal server.
    SQL*Plus, TOAD, web browsers... all these equal client.
    Who handles the presentation of data on the client? Who has access to the client platform's keyboard, mouse, screen printer, disk drives, etc? The client.
    So how can a server process or component then hack across the client-server architecture and into a client component and write data (e.g. CSV files) there?
    This is a fundamental concept that needs to be clearly understood when dealing with all aspects of client-server.
    What also needs to be understood that client-server is a software architecture. This means that client-server can run on a single machine. Client can run on a PC. Server can run on a big Unix machine. Or server can run on the PC and the client can run on the big Unix machine.
    Which means that you can have PL/SQL code (on the server platform) acting as a client.. and use server software on your client platform to service that PL/SQL session.
    For example. PL/SQL creates a CSV "+file+" as a CLOB. PL/SQL uses a FTP package and opens a client FTP session to a FTP server on your client PC. Now your PC is the FTP server and PL/SQL the FTP client. The client then proceeds to FTP the CLOB as a CSV file.

    Hi,
    Well,i don't know whether if this helps people here are not.
    It is always a good practise to do it via Servlet and then download content.
    The adavantage of doing this is
    1). You may not need to pack the downloadable with the .war which you ultimately genrate which ceratinly help us in terms of faster deployment.
    3). You may update the new content just by moving a file to the backup folder.
    2).One may definately download the content irrespective to the content/file.
    Hope example below helps..
    Configurations:
    In the above example we are assuming that we placing all downlodable file in D:/webapp/downlodables/ and you have configured the same path as a init param with the name "filePath" in your web.xml.

    When View output is clicked, it opens the windows and closes immediatelyMost probably it is a pop-up blocker issue. Please verify that it is turned off (IE, MSN, Yahoo, Google, AOL, ..etc), and check then.
    To verify, change the report type to PostScript, and check if you have the same issue with GhostViewer.
