Printer load balancing

Hi Experts,
Greetings!
We have requirement where Currently all the printing work ( paper work ) takes place on one printer for a plant.
( Table z*, one printer is assigned per plant )
Going forward, as the volume of the paper work is going to drastically increase, the business
is thinking of including more printers for a plant.
Say 2 or 3 printers per plant. so, all the paper work is going to be printed on 2-3 printers
to offload the printing from a single printer.
How we can technically see all the printer specific details run time and how to manage the queue of the printer. Any Inputs on this will be really help full.
Thanks ,
Raj

Hi Andre,
I'm not very familiar with the protocols that printers use, but if the connection is simply over a TCP or UDP connection, then sure, that should be no problem.  However, if you need to do some sort of upper-layer fixup, then maybe not.  The CSS only really has application layer capabilites for HTTP, and just enough for FTP to open the necessary pin-holes, etc.
So the bottom line, is if for printing, a client simply opens a TCP connection on some port to the printer, sends the print job, then closes that connection, then i don't see any reason that the CSS, or any load balancer, couldn't load balance it.
Perhaps you are more knowledgeable on printer communications than I.  Are you aware of anything special that might make printers tricky to load balance?
BTW, I think this is the first time I've heard of printer load balancing.  Learn something new every day!  ;- )

  • Printer Pool load balancing problem.

We seem to be having a problem with printer load balancing working correctly. I have several computer labs. Each lab has at least 2 printers of the same type. As a result I pool the printers for each lab. We are still running ZCM10.3.4. Most of the clients are running iprint 5.82. With Zenworks 7 and 6.5 load balancing on these printers worked very well and page counts stayed very close on each printer. Now that we are at ZCM10 and have been for about 3 years now we continually see that one printer gets the majority of jobs. Most of the computers are imaged but printers are installed after imaging. Even if we alternate the default printer on the computer print jobs still mostly come out the same printer. All printers except 3 are HP and in our case they are all new HP M602's with a couple older HP4015DN's thrown in when the new HP M602's would print garbage across the wan and the 4015's would print correctly but that is another topic.
Am I misunderstanding how load balancing is supposed to work? Isn't load balancing supposed to be one of the features of printer pooling in addition to sending jobs to the printer that is not busy at the time the job is sent? How is load balancing set up?
    Thank you.

are you using any front end web server or hardware load balancer ? verify your load balancing if it's happening or not properly between your clustered managed servers.

  • SAP GLM Print Request - Load Balancing of WWI server

    Hi GLM Experts,
I am using new GLM + module that generates labels based on Print Requests. I am unable to understand how I can load balance the WWI services when there are multiple label printing requests.
In GLM + we associate a WWI to a Print Station and which can then be associated with a printer. So in the configuration we are tying up a printer a WWI.
Also during label printing, if the scenario uses print request module, then the use need to select a print station and printer. What happens if the WWI related to the print station is down?
For example I have two services in WWI server GENPC1 and GENPC2. I created WWII and WWI2 as two print stations. I will associate my printer PRNWWI to both the print stations WWI1 and WWI2.
During label printing if the user picks and WWI1 and Printer PDNWWI and if the GENPC1 WWI server assocaited with print status WWI1 is busy and down I want WWI GENPC2 to generate the label?
How to setup the above load balancing or fall back? Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Pugal

    Dear Pugal
we are not using GLM + and I am not sure about the technqiue used there to handle load balancing. Regarding general WWI setup I assume you know this Note: EH&S: Availability and performance of WWI and Expert servers
On the top there is a further SAP Note abvailable which might be of interest. This is referenced here:
    http://de.scribd.com/doc/191576739/011000358700000861002013-e
May be check OSS note: 1958655; OSS Note 1155294 is more related to normal WWI stuff; but may be check it as well. May be 1934253 might help better
    May be this might help.
    C.B.
PS: may be check as well: consolut - EHS_MD_140_01 - EH&S-Management-Server einrichten
The load balancing of synchron WWi servers is donein the "RFC" layer, therefore you have no inffluence here, for asynchron WWI servers you can do a lot to manage the WWI load balancing by using "exits" etc.

  • CSS 11503 load-balancing with MS Print Servers

We are trying to load-balance print server connections between 2 MS print servers. When we try to connect to the print servers name, (\\PS01) or even the VIP address, we get a Path not found error. However, if we direct the path to the actual name or ip address of the print servers (not the VIP), we can view all the queues and connect/print to them. Is this possible to do on the CSS 11503? Thanks.

  • Load balancing server names

My Application is handled by three load balanced servers.I have a functionality in which first i send a request for a document printing. This request is posted in Database. Then a backend script runs and takes each requets in DB and executes and creates a file and places in server space. This works fine when i have only one server. But when i have load balanced servers user can give request for print from one server(he does know where from he is giving) and backend shell scripts can take the OPEN record from DB and execute in another server. So user is not able to find the document thought his request is processed.I have tried to know the DNS names of teh server whose are taking the print request so that i can track. But when i check with ServletRequest.getServerName() but i always get the application URL not teh specific load balance server name. I am tryong my luck with java.net.InetAddress

Hey i could solve this problem. i have used java.net.InetAddress class and its methods to know the system name on which my code is executing.

  • CSS Load balancing for Exchange Server

    Hi,
I have CSS configured in single arm and I have multiple servers configured for load balancing and it is working fine but when I am configuring Exchange server for load balancing I am facing problem and applications and printer/scanners are not able to send the email through the Virtual IP address configured for exchaneg server.
But if we configured the real server IP in the printer/scanners they are able to send the email. While checking the logs on the exchange server, it is showing that request for the email so coming from the Exchange VIP configured in the CSS.
I can telnet on port 25 on the VIP address (192.168.200.237). But unable to send the email through this VIP.

Please let me know how to solve this problem. System team is saying with the physical IP address it is working fine problem with Load balancing. I have even tried with the
Add service command in the group but didnt work for me. If i will remove the group command then I cant telnet on port 25.
I think this is related to single arm modle or some wrong configuration for the NAT.

  • Load Balancing For Users

I have a single win2k8 r2 server vm with a C and D drive. The database is located on the D drive. The vendor states that the database has to be located on the server hosting the application. I need to know if there is a way to use MS Clustering to load balance
that server for logins and printing. This is a Windows Terminal (RDP) server using Citrix Xenapp 6.5. My goal is to have an additional server to balance logins and printing while the actual application remains on the original server.  Please send me some
suggestions or best route to follow.

    Hi,
    Could you clarify
“My goal is to have an additional server to balance logins and printing while the actual application remains on the original server.” It seems you want to make the Terminal Services Session Broker service high available? If so you can refer
    the following KB first:

  • Load Balancing Issues SOMEBODY HELP ME!!

    Good Morning.
A few days ago we implemented Load Balancing in our company, I printed a step by step procedure from MS and just follow it thinking that once I did that everything was going to be ok, but I am some issues that I managed to fix, but now I am stock in one
that I just can't figure it out, here I go.
When regular users try to connect to the Farm using the external IP they can't connect, we checked firewall seems to be ok, we check the configuration we did and we didn't miss any step, NOW here is the crazy part, when we use our Admin ID we can connect,
so I thought maybe is an Active Directory thing, but I don't know where to look or what to do so my questions are,
Can this be a licensing issue?
Do I have to have my TSBroker as part of my group of PC in the firewall?
Can it be a certificate issue? (not too sure because I can connect as an admin)
Can it be permissions to log in to the servers?
My co-worked is telling me now that if TS Broker sent them to TS1 they can connect but if TSBroker send them to the other two members of the farms they can't connect, TS1 is the original TS before this whole Load Balancing thing.
we tried so many solutions that we can find online and come up with and nothing seems to be working, so what do I do? What did I do wrong when I configure the Load balancing? is there any step beside what MS told me that I am missing...
    PLEASE HELP!!
    Thank you..

    Hi Rodrigo,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
What’s your server OS in your environment?
Firstly see that, if you have not set up RD Licensing server and don’t have RDS CAL then your administrator can only get access for RDP connection (only 2 connection for Admin purpose). Now if you want more than 2 connection you need to setup RD Licensing server,
activate it, purchase RDS CAL and install it. After installing, you need to see that your user have enough permission to access RDS server and your user must be added under “Remote Desktop User” local group under RDS Server.
As you have commented that your admin can able to connect so I think you must have the issue with user permission, please go through above points and check the result.
Please check below article for more details.

    2. Checklist: Create a Load-Balanced RD Session Host Server Farm by Using RD Connection Broker (Server 2008 R2)

  • Network Load Balancing - Multicast IPv6

I have a two servers with network load balancing. They are configured to use IGMP Multicast which works well with IPv4.  The switch correctly detects the group and sends the traffic to only the ports connected to the servers.
However i can't get IPv6 working outside of the servers subnet.  You can access the loadbalanced IPv6 address from within the servers subnet but machines outside the subnet cannot access it.
Does load balancing properly support IPv6?  Should it not support Multicast Listerner Discovery (MLD) to work properly with IPv6?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.
Yes - you are correct. We are using an IPv6 address as the cluster IP address for incoming connections but it can't be access outside of the subnet. The cluster has both a link-local and global address - both are only accessible from within the subnet.
The two servers that are part of load balancing cluster both have IPv6 address assigned to their network adapters - these are accesible outside the subnet. Infact 80% of all our network traffic is IPv6 - routing is working fine between all servers, workstations
and devices on our various subnets.  The problem is purley affecting the load balancing IPv6 address.
The IP config and route tables are below.  Thanks for your help.

  • MulticastTest for Load balancing issue

    Hi,
We are currently facing issues with Load balancing using IIS Proxy plug-in.
__WebLogicBridgeConfig list of dynamic servers does not return both servers. MulticastTest is the first resolution suggested by Bea Support on this page

Can someone please interpret following results of second utils.MulticastTest test.
              Thanx & Reagrds,
              Sagar
I carried out two multicast tests with three machines with names ES01, ES02 & STAGE with different IP & Ports on the network.
Following extract is from ES01 with IP 237.0.0.2 & port 8052. It finds 2 neighbors on lines 12 & 13 (ES02 & STAGE). Message exchange also looks fine.

I am not sure if cluster is responding here. On 2 physical machines, we have 3 services - admin, Server_1 & Server_2, shouldn't it find more "Neighbors" if cluster is responding to test?
Regarding Message exchange, there several "Duplicate messages" received from this neighbour like on line 17 and 35.

    George,
Did you have to modify anything on the ECC side to get this to work/load balance?  I made all the changes explained in the How to Scale Up doc (http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/c02f072f-3799-2c10-e0b8-d98d323c0908) to fully implement the Web Dispatcher.... but I was wondering how the ECC backend would know where to deliver outbound transactions.  Does it get the WD system information from the SLD at the time it attempts to deliver a transaction to PI?  Or do we have to update SM59 or someother configuration to make the ECC aware of the Web Dispatcher?

  • RV042 Load balancing function

I have Rv042 so I need it to make load balancing for 2 ADSL lines.
The 2 ADSL modems working as a router (not bridge) so I connect ADSL1 (adsl router) to Internet1 in RV042 and ADSL2 to internet2/DMZ .
In the RV042 configuration I make WAN1 and WAN to obtain the ip automatically from the DHCP which are enabled in the ADSL routers.
Also in RV042 the DHCP is enable to assign ip address to the LAN.
from a PC try to access the internet I can't.
I did the same scenario with QNO FQR8010 it's working but with RV042 it's not.
    What is the problem.
Note: I need the ADSL routers to still work as routers.
    Regards.

    Try this:
Required ports to use Google Talk
    Print
If you're having trouble connecting to Google Talk through your firewall or proxy, it may be because some necessary ports are blocked.
In order to connect to Google Talk and start sending IMs, you'll need to enable TCP connections to talk.google.com on port 5222, or on port 443.
If you'd like to make calls or transfer files through Google Talk, you need to:
Enable UDP connections to anywhere on any port; or
Enable TCP connections to anywhere on port 443.
If you're behind a public or corporate network that is blocking these ports or protocols, please contact your local network administrator for further instructions.

  • Srv2008 r2, Load balancing causing sessions to Stack and halt logon

    Hello all,
We have currently using Appv 4.6 sp3, across 14 terminal servers. These then have access to 2 app servers and also 2 bkr servers.
We are running a srv2008 r2 environment, and running a windows 7 user experience on the terminal servers.
We are running microsoft load balancing via a farm setup. The member of staff that set they system up has recently left and with limited documentation I am struggling a bit to get my head around why the stacking occurs
The problem we have come across is that the system work ok load balancing works a treat, then all of a sudden a user will come along try log on and will take longer than usual to connect there session.  This is causing all users that try connecting
to be stacked behind this slower user logging on and so to a point where there could be 20 + people waiting to log on.
This causes us a huge problem as we can have almost 700+ use at a time on the thin client environment.
Is there a setting that can be set to stop this situation happening, ??
    Thanks in advance
    Lee

    Hi Lee,
Does this issue occurs with all users at a time?
Do you have printer redirection enabled?
If yes, then please try below Hotfix and check the result.
Long logon time when you establish an RD session to a Windows Server 2008 R2-based RD Session Host server if Printer Redirection is enabled
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2655998
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Error while selecting Load Balancing in JCO creation

While creating JCO i am facing this error. It is working fine with Single server connection, but when i chose Load balancing i error comes out. Please tell me the solution.
I have read couples of forum mentioned you need to start both Portal and ECC.
For you information my Portal and Java are both on diffrrent Box.
com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception: (102) RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Connect to message server host failed Connect_PM  TYPE=B MSHOST=olameccpdvr GROUP=PUBLIC R3NAME=DVR MSSERV=sapmsDVR PCS=1 LOCATION    CPIC (TCP/IP) on local host with Unicode ERROR       service 'sapmsDVR' unknown TIME        Thu Feb 24 12:19:54 201 RELEASE     701 COMPONENT   NI (network interface) VERSION     38 RC          -3 MODULE      nixxhsl.cpp LINE        776 DETAIL      NiHsLGetServNo: service name cached as unknown COUNTER     5

Is your backend system configured correctly in your SLD ?
Go to transaction SMMS on your backend system that your are connecting to. Click on Goto=>Parameters=>Display. Look for "server port" value.
This should give you the TCP/IP port for your message server. It could be 3600 or 3601 (36NN - where NN is the instance number).
In your services file, if you made the entry at the end of the file, press Enter (Return) after your entry.
Try restarting your server after making the above changes.

  • Error in creation of JCO with Load balancing server

    Hi,
We are using a ABAP user base for our WEBAS server 6.40 (with ABAP+JAVA). i have created a Public group in concerned ECC 5.0 system. I have already configured SLD, and then i maintain data supplier bridge in SLD and run RZ70 in ECC 5.0 system to load system information.. i can see details in SLD ..
now i am trying to create JCO connections .. here i am unable to create JCO with load balancing option..  i get
    com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception: (102) RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Connect to message server host failed Connect_PM  TYPE=B MSHOST=<servername> GROUP=PUBLIC R3NAME=SID MSSERV=sapms<SID> PCS=1 ERROR       service 'sapms<SID>' unknown TIME        Fri Jun 16 12:41:20 2006 RELEASE     640 COMPONENT   NI (network interface) VERSION     37 RC          -3 MODULE      ninti.c LINE        505 DETAIL      NiPGetServByName2: service 'sapms<SID>' not found SYSTEM CALL getservbyname_r COUNTER     1
i am able to create single server JCO, but it fails in load balancing.. is there anything i have  missed out in settings...
    Thanks and regards,
    Sudhir

    Thanks, Bogdan Rokosa
I have the same problem, and solved it following the steps provided by Bogdan Rokosa  :
you must insert an entry for your R3 system
    (like: sapms<SID> 3600/tcp)
    in services file
    (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\services) on Java WAS.
I test the Jco successful without restart J2EE Engine.
