Printing document takes forever.Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Using OS 10.6.4, each time I print a document, I have to wait and wait for the printer to print.
I'm using HP LaserJet M1319F. Driver version: 1.3.0.261
Is this normal?
The first document, I have to wait a couple of seconds before the printer respond, but if I try to send a second document right away before the other one is print, it take forever. I just did a test and the second document to be print 42 secondes of waiting.

Try repairing permissions and then restarting your computer. It just may speed up your printing.

  • A user is having trouble printing. Print jobs take FOREVER when they used to speed through

A user is having trouble printing. Print jobs take FOREVER when they used to speed through (despite linked images, etc)
These are just some notes from our troubleshooting:
User was trying to print out InDesign document however during the flattening phase, the computer would stall and would not print out the document.
The document does not print out using double sided or single sided.
The first time I went out, all I did was a system restore and uninstalled mcafee security plus because we're on a university network and sometimes the firewall blocks network printing, and that worked. She tried to print again later and it went back to taking 30 minutes for a print job of about 19 pages. These print jobs used to take about 5 minutes at the most to print entirely, but they queued up immediately, versus now, it takes about 5 minutes just to get to the printer.
Further troubleshooting that I did on a separate day:
Printer was printing fine in November - problem started at some point this month (December)
Printing is fine elsewhere, including in Adobe Acrobat
I was able to print one page just fine - it had no images (tried to print the same page later, took forever)
Some of the images are very large (100MB+) photoshop files (again, they were there before and it printed fine) - these images are linked (with no link errors)
She prints to a network printer, but there's no firewall on (again, printing is fine elsewhere)
She's essentially printing with the default settings, she just centers her print, instead of the default layout.
Now even printing with the default print set (not changing any print settings at all) doesn't work. Jobs take 30 minutes. I can't figure out if it's file specific or where the problem is. Since she has no custom settings, my next option is to just do an uninstall and reinstall, but I'm worried that the problem will still be there. I was starting to think that maybe the file is just so corrupted from all the force quits that that's causing the problem, but... I'm running out of solutions.
    Any help?

I have only worked doing layout for one business in my past. In that job our department would sometimes experience slowdown in printing from time to time. However, we began to see extreme slowdowns over a month period. It was finally tracked down to two things. One was something about the RAID array going bonkers. The other was some of the CAT cabling going bad. It only affected large print jobs and copying large files through the network. Even so, it was not 100% of the time. Sometimes things went along smoothly.
Point is, have your IT people been invited in to experience the issue and see if anything in the network is causing at least latency issues?
    Take care, Mike

Would you provide more details about the problem?  A screenshot would be helpful.
The following FAQ document describes the steps to add a screenshot to your forum message.
How to add a screenshot to a forum message from iPad/iPhone
Regarding printing PDF documents...It depends on the PDF document that you are trying to print.  In general, it will take longer to print more complex and larger PDF documents.
If you are willing to share your PDF document (that takes forever to print) with us at [email protected], we can test it with the same version (11.6.3) of Adobe Reader on different iOS versions (iOS 7.x vs. iOS 8.x).  Please include the link to this forum (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1616231) in your email message for reference.
Actual printing is handled by iOS (not by Adobe Reader) via AirPrint over Wi-Fi connection.  We've heard from other users about iOS 8 Wi-Fi connectivity problems.

  • Closing document takes forever

When I close a document within Captivate (instead of exiting
the program) it takes forever--maybe two or three minutes. Has
anyone else ever experienced long delays when closing a document?
Is it my computer? Just bought another gig of RAM, but didn't seem
    to help.
I've been a Mac guy since '84 and bought this PC just to use
this program (that's how much I love it!). Here are the details of
    my computer:
    Compaq
    Windows Vista Home Basic
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
    1.75 GB RAM
    ATI RADEON XPRESS 1100 Series
Any advice would greatly be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Bob

Thanks guys (and girls!) for the responses. I checked and
none of my files are on a network drive.
It really seems like the issue is limited to closing a
document that I've made changes to, even when I've saved the
changes before attempting to close it. However, exiting Captivate
after making changes is instantaneous, so I think I'll just have to
use that as a workaround and exit the program each time I need to
close a file, since it seems launing the application is as fast as
launcing a file within Captivate (both under 30 seconds).
After testing with a new file, I'm guessing it's the files
itself that are slowing closing down. These files were created by
breaking up a 140-slide document with high-quality sound into four
smaller pieces, so Captivate must have a lot of baggage to deal
with when it closes (though I don't understand why they close so
fast when I exit the program). I read elsewhere in this forum that
Captivate 2 hangs on to a lot of garbage even when you delete
things and I'm wondering if it does the same thing with Captivate
    3.
By the way, geekygirl, the link you gave me to Adobe's tech
doc said in Vista to recreate the preferences file found here:
    For Windows Vista: C:\Users\[USER
    ACCOUNT]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\
but it's not there. I'm wondering if the source of my
problems have to do with the fact that I have Vista Home Basic
instead of Vista Home Premium. Premium is actually printed on the
Captivate box as a requirement. Would that be the issue? Should I
upgrade? As a PC novice, I'm a little unsure if my computer (see
description in earlier post) has the requirements for the
upgrade--support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM Driver, 128 MP
of graphics memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, and 32
    bits per pixel.
Anyone PC people out there think not having Vista Premium
might be the issue and hazard a guess if my machine will support
it? Thanks so much for the help!

  • Printing a PDF file takes forever

My HP laser printer is quite fast. But when sending a PDF file to print (open it in Acrobat full version and send to print) -- it takes forever, even if the file is not large at all....
    ????

Do you notice any difference in copy quality? Is Reader sending low res photos, etc?
Open the file in Acrobat Pro and optimize it. Advanced> Print Production> pdf optimizer.
Play with the settings. You may have some embedded photos or scans with much more resolution than you need to get good quality from your printer.

  • Printing PDF Files takes forever

I'm new to the mac world, but love it. It takes forever to print pdf files on my iMac. I'm using an HP3050 Laserjet, plugged directly into the iMac. Never had this problem with the printer connected to my Vista Laptop.
I started to print a 2 page pdf 9 minutes ago and still have not gotten a pageout of the printer. PDF File is only 132 KB.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    David Goodman1 wrote:
It was happening with preview and adobe pdf viewer. I tried an experiment, unplugged the usb cable and re-set the printer to its defaults.
That solved part of the problem. It now prints pdf's quickly, but any document, word, pdf etc that I try to print, the printer now beeps and prompts for a manual feed, press enter for confirmation. After pressing the enter button on the printer whatever file I'm trying to print comes out.
Okay, the printer thinks that you're feeding paper from the manual feed slot, not from the paper tray. When you select 'Print', the printer dialog box should come up. There are two basic styles for the printer dialog box:
1 basic, which has seven items in it: the printer ID pull-down menu, which allows you to select printers if you have more than one printer; in my case, I'd have Brother HL-2070N, Brother MFC-440CN, Adobe PDF 8.0, and a few other items on the list. It would also show the printer presets pull-down, the four print system buttons (PDF, Preview, Cancel and Print) and the dialog control triangle.
2 complete, which can be access from the basic dialog by clicking on the dialog control triangle. This will zoom out the dialog box to include the full array of options available for that printer. What options show depend on which printer you have, but one of them will be a pull-down menu which usually has the name of the app you're trying to print from. One of the items on that menu will be 'Print Feed' or something similar. Select that item. The dialog will zoom out and show you the various print feed options. It is probable that there will be a checkmark next to 'manual feed' or something similar. Select 'automatic' or 'tray #1' or similar. Print normally.
Once you have printed something with the correct settings the print system will remember the settings you want and will keep them until you change them. Just remember that if you change them, the system will remember the new settings until you change them back.
Plus, printing #10 envelopes no longer works correctly, the address information only partially prints and is un-readable.
That's almost certainly because it things that it's printing letter-size paper from the manual tray. One of the settings under 'Print Settings' or similar should allow you to select the size and type of paper; if you select #10 envelope, it will adjust accordingly. Note that unless you specify otherwise, if you select #10 envelope the system will usually automatically select the manual feed for you. It will go back to whatever feed setting had been made before printing envelopes once you select a different type of paper. (At least that's how it's worked in every printer I've used for quite some time now.)
I'm going to plug the printer back into my Vista Laptop and see if it goes back to normal.
It's not hardware-related, it's driver-related, so you should be able to print from Vista without a problem.
If you do have a problem, let us know 'cause then the problem is not a driver problem. And if it's not a driver problem you may yet get to buy a new printer, 'cause fixing printer hardware is usually more expensive than just tossing the printer and replacing it. I would charge you at least $50/hour plus parts to fix this kind of thing. You can get a new printer for under $100. You make the call.
Is there any kind of "terminal" command I can use to re-set how the Mac is dealing with the printer?
if you really want to see the guts of the print system, you can go to the CUPS pages on your system, but you really don't want to do that unless you absolutely have no choice. The CUPS pages, the Common UNIX Printing System pages, on your system are available if you launch your web browser (any web browser) and go to <http://127.0.0.1:631/printers>. There's a whole lot of info in there, but playing inside there is not for the faint of heart.

  • HP 4015 takes forever to print

We have an HP 4015 for our Windows LAN system.   Currently it takes forever to print anything.   It sounds like it just keeps cycling.  No error messages or red lights go on.   It eventually prints but minutes go by before that happens.
We have checked all the electrical plugs and have found them all secure.
What could this be?  How can we fix this?

    Hi wldcat,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that when printing from your iPad to your P1102w printer that the printing can take a long time.
I know this document doesn’t mention the error that you are experiencing but the steps in the Apple Mobile Devices (AirPrint): Document Does Not Print or is Stuck in Print Queue trouble shooting document are valid for your situation. If they don’t help resolve the issue please try the steps in Apple’s Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset document.
If you are still having the same issue, then please follow the steps in the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection document.
Please let me know how it goes.

  • Print Dialog Box Takes forever

Does anyone have this issue?  I hit Print...  It takes at leas t10 secs...  then if I change the number of copies, go into print settings, it takes another 30 secs...
Photoshop cs4 and 5 do this...
    Windows XP 64
    Dual Quad Core
    8gb ram
    plenty of HD space
this happens with numberous files and printers...  we have several HP 1050c plotters, Sharp printers, etc...  still cant find an answer...  thanx for your help all
    Eric

    Well,...
    Windows XP 64
let me just say *uggh*. Most XP 64 printer drivers I know are either generic PostScript/ PCL drivers or 32bit drivers in a 64bit wrapper. Seriously, the issue is most likely the operating system in combination with potential network issues and I really see no way of fixing this in any way related to Adobe. The program is simply sending back and forth standard commands and as per your description it simply takes forever for the printers and their drivers to respond to these requests...

  • My printer takes forever to print from photoshop elements 9

my printertakes forever to print from photoshop elements 9 then when it prits the crop is wrong, lots of noise or distortion. It only does this in adobe photoshop elements 9.

Yes it is different from what I see in print preview. I have been saving the file and picking it up in windows to print its so much faster and predictable. It takes forever to print from p-e. I read somewhere the printer needs to be calibrated for color but shouldn't have anything to do with crop or printing speed' Thanks

  • It takes forever to print anything...

This just started a little while ago. We have two G4s on a network. Both running 10.3.9. One prints just fine. The other takes forever to print anything. We noticed this printing InDesign docs. So I ran a test using TextEdit. I typed a single word and hit print. It took nearly a minute to print one word.
We have an HP Laserjet 1320N on the network.
Anybody have any idea what could be causing this? Surely it must be a System issue.
    Thanks
    Joe G.

    Hi Joe,
So it gets caught up on the second occasion, suggesting that the OS is not getting the 'all clear' from the printer after the first job. Incidentally, while it is taking forever to print is the (Console.app) system.log writing lots of error messages whilst this is occurring? Please do not post the log, just say if there is log activity occurring.
    You could try two things;
    1. delete again this file.
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.PrinterProxy.HPLaserjet.plist
then run Repair Permissions from Disk utilities (found in Utilities)
and then in an Administative account open Terminal (found in Utilities) and copy and paste into terminal the command
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
type in the admin password, (it will type invisibly).
press return and wait, it could take a minute to complete.
and see if that fixes things.
    2. If not, then I suggest do a Repair Disk.
To do this: Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart, then hold down the C key until you hear the chime.
This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.
Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar to First Aid and navigate to the Disk Utilities application.
Select the start up drive, then you click on Repair Disk .
If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.
    Then run Repair Permissions.
After these repairs, quit the application, and restart normally.
    good luck with those procedures.

  • Opening documents from server takes forever

If I Lion users creates a document on the server in say something like TextEdit then reopens TextEdit later they are greated to a spinning beach ball while TextEdit tries to resume editing that previous document from the server. I dont want to turn off autoresume since they like being able to log out and return to where they left off when they log back in. But man watching that beach ball spin is painful and takes forever.

Anyone else seeing this. If you have a network user just open a TextEdit document from an AFP share and see if it beachballs TextEdit when the document opens.
Originally I thought it was the auto-resume feature so I turned that off but I am still seeing the beachballing with apps like TextEdit, Quicktime, and Preview. So I am led to believe it has something to do with the new auto-save/versioning feature that is having issues with files stored on network sharepoints.

  • Printing signatures on PO Print Documents....

    Hi All,
As have a requirement to print the signature of the peson on PO Print documents (XML Output file)
The signature is uploaded through attachments from purchasing responsibility.
When ever the concerned authority moves from that department then the a new signature is uploaded and the same must be printed on the document.
If anyone has worked on same kind of requirement then can you please share the logic..
    Thanks in advance

All, we are having a similar issue in an .rtf template, but the reports have successfully pulled in the image for over a year and suddenly stopped. Thank goodness this is our QA environment so far, but we fear whatever has happened will move to our PROD environment.
We have the following syntax (working for over a year): url:{'${OA_MEDIA}/xx_logo.jpg'}. For some reason this syntax stopped pulling in the image, and it takes forever to run the report now. When the image did get pulled in, the report post processing ran in 2-3s. When it's not pulling the image in, the post processor is running for 3m. I change the syntax to the absolute path of the image, and it again works fine (pulls in image, post processes in 2-3s).
Any thoughts? Was there some XSLT processor patch or BI publisher patch that could have changed the behavior of how BIP resolves OA_MEDIA in an RTF?
Here's a snippet of the FO file that get's built from the RTF:

  • My HP officejet 6210 no longer prints documents from my Mac ibook G4 running 10.4.11; starts to process the document, but then stops the print,if I restart print same thing happens

My ibookG4, running 10.4.11 suddenly decided it no longer wants to print documents thru my HP officejet 6210 all-in-one printer.  So far I've tried emails, excel and word all with the same result.  The computer will start to process the print request (processing seems to take longer than previously) and then suddenly the processing stops and a red exclamation mark appears next to the printer image at the bottom of screen.  When I pull up the printer utility it tells me the printer is "stopped".  If I restart it, the process begins all over again until once again it stops.  I have already deleted the printer completely from my computer and reinstalled the software fom the HP site.  For some reason had a really tough time finding the correct print drivers on the HP site, but did finally locate them.  I have not even attempted scanning during this (I see lots of people reported issues with that for the 6210), I would be happy if I could at least print again.  I am connecting via USB.  Is there some way to fix this?

I know you can print photos over Bluetooth to a Bluetooth enabled printer, i.e Canon MP460.
But is it possible to print documents in this way. Or does anyone know of any software that will do this?
    Thanks

    Hi mickh1
I have seen designs posted for a simple frame to allow an iPhone to take pictures of A4 documents. Something similar so that N95 8GB is perfectly still and as it doesn't have touchscreen probably need to use timer to release shutter, should produce a satisfactory result.

  • Setting chapter font in printed document

When I create printed documentation, the font used for the
chapter title is the same as the font used for the titles of the
topics in that chapter. I'd like the chapter title to be in a
larger font, but I can't find a way to set it. How do you set the
font of the chapter titles in the printed documentation?
    I'm using RoboHTML 6.0.

When RH generates the printed document it will apply Heading
1 to the chapters, nothing you can do about that.
It will also apply headings in your topics as you have set
them out so the topic title will also be Heading 1. You can clear
the Maintain HTML level check box in which case all headings in the
source will be bumped down 1. So Heading 1 in source will be
Heading 2 in Word. Knowing that, you can adjust your styles
    accordingly.
Take a look at the topic on Printed Documentation on my site.
