Printing Pcl file

Hi I want to ammend the JMD so that the nojob prints out a pcl file that I am testing. I can print it using a command line paramater using "copy <filename> <printerserver/printername>" So i want to carry this out through central so i thought the nojob task i have looks like this, but it doesnt work. !x JFNOJOB * * "copy @InFile \\printerserver\printername" * Has anybody got any ideas to solve this? I thought maybe a JFPrint task but there doesnt seem to be one. Cheers.

Let me re-ask the same question, but maybe more clearer this time.
I have a PCL file on a UNIX server.
I need to be able to print the PCL file to an HP color LaserJet 5550 printer, using UNIX's "lp" command.
The DNS Name of the printer is "oepljp1q".
I am using PuTTY to issue the "lp" command.
After issuing the "lp" command, I receive no error messages, so I believe, that the command was successful.
I see no buttons on the printer, that would show me, if any jobs are queued up to be printed.
I had my "lp" command monitored by our Performance Group, and the monitoring showed the IP set-up and tear-down of the session between the UNIX server with the PCL file and the printer, with packlets in between.
Any idea, why the printer is not producing the desired paper output?

Cannot print PCL file with graphical content

If I try to print a PCL file with graphical content using lp then the output is corrupt on a network printer. I've tracked the problem down to the netpr program - which seems to be performing some sort of filtering on the data. Does anyone know how the flags work for netpr - or know of a work around?

Assuming you are running 10.10.2 and not the ancient 10.0.2, can you tell us what printer and printer driver you are using? How is the printer connected to the computer (network, usb)? See if you can delete the Reader preference files? Years ago I resetting the printer subsystem would sometimes cure a problem like this.

Crystal Report print to PCL file needs to contain searchable text

Hi,
I am using VS(2005) and Crystal Report XI R2 .net Service pack 4. I need to be able to create a pcl file that contains text information on the first page that needs to be parsed and read by another application. However, I am not able to use a generic/text only pcl driver to do this because the remainder of the report (page 2 on) needs to contain lines and table borders as if it were printed to paper from the printer. The report/print to file driver I have configured will produce a pcl file that meets my requirements when I print from Crystal XI R2 but when I use either the .Net view or I print directly form code all of the text in the pcl file is contained in an image.
Any suggestions on ways I can resolve this issue are greatly appreciated.

The CR.NET uses the .NET Framework print service for sending the output to the printer itself, where the page is sent as an image. There's no way to alter this behavior within CR.NET.
This is problematic for your task, as well as for tasks that rely embedded fonts or text strings (such as phone dialers, faxes, printer fonts, etc).
Whatever you do, you'd have to do outside of CR.NET

With GUI_UPLOAD I import this file into SAP ( on spool ).
Now I want to print it. How can I do it ?
P.S. I tried simply print it but in the paper there's only the symbol : I mean that the
file is not decoded.

Unable to receive dunning PCL file

Hi Gurus,
I have encountered a problem while trying to send the dunning data to our pritner, the PCL file has not been received successfully and here is the dunning log:
From the dunning log it seems that the dunning letter has not been printed due to the frequency not reached, however, the customers have overdue invoices that already reached dunning lever 2. And I can see the dunning letter if I open the dunning history.
Could somebody tell me what's the problem and how to fix it? Thanks.

When printing pdf files from Acrobat Reader, Adobe Acrobat or FoxIt the grey background appears on the paper. The content of the file is printed normally. Printing from the other sources (Word, Excel, NotePad) is OK

Adobe Reader 9.2 will only print to file

Since installing the 9.2 update, I am unable to print a pdf. Each time I try, I receive the print to file dialog box. I have never experienced any similar problem with prior versions of Reader. I am ruinning Windows XP SP2 with an HP 1320 laserjet printer. Current PCL and post script drivers are installed.
Can anyone tell me what the issue is and how to print PDF's through Reader once again? Thanks.

Thanks graffiti. I did not realize that Reader had its own print dialog and there is no print to file option on the regular printer dialog. I opened Reader, opened a pdf, and clicked on print to pull up the reader print dialog. The print to file option was displayed in the lower left and it was selected -- I assume that came as a default setting when 9.2 was downloaded (I don't remember seeing or selecting it on this or any prior versions).
At any rate, I deselected the option and the pdf's now print normally. Thanks for the help and problem resolved.

Well, the problem is to print it you need to be able to read it. Something needs to convert it into a format the printer can understand (most printers are PostScript or PCL).
I'm not sure you entirely understand what a PDF file is. It's not a fancy text file. It's a binary format. Saying "I want to print a PDF without a PDF interpreter" is like saying "I want to run an EXE without Windows". You need software to interpret the format.
You certainly can write your own software to interpret the PDF format, convert it to a print language and output that to a printer, but as Aandi said you will need to start by reading the PDF Reference so you know how the inside of a PDF file works, and it will most likely take several years of development even for a seasoned, expert programmer. It's just not as simple as "Printer, meet PDF. PDF, meet printer."

Can I split a PDF / PCL file when generating using Crystal Report

Hi,
I can generate a big PCL file from sending it to a PCL printer from Crystal. Can I add something to split the PCL file while generating it from Crystal?
Any pointers towards splitting a PCL would be appreciated.

Crystal Reports is just a tool to present the data.
Unfortunately there is no functionality to instruct to split the report pages while sending to the printer that too automatically from Crystal Reports Designer Stand Alone application.
You can select the page range according toyour requirement.

You've got a problem.
The javax.print API claims to support printing PDFs, but it doesn't:

Note the last paragraph in the article.
If you're generating your PDF on the fly using Jakarta's FOP, you can switch to PCL and send that to a printer.
You might try using the acrord32 and Runtime.exec() to print, but my understanding is that Adobe doesn't support the command line API and the print command doesn't work in versions 5.0 and greater of Adobe.
Do a search on Advanced Language Topics. I failed to find a solution to this problem. Perhaps you'll do better. - MOD

I am using Adobe Acrobat 9.5. Recently I am having problems with printing PDF files, while other formats are printing just fine. Upon printing a pdf doc, following appears on the print out:

Try install the Adobe reader XI and also try update the printer drivers as well . That should take care of this problem.

How to generate PCL files ?

We are using PIB 5.6.3 within APPS 11.5.10.2 on RedHat Linux servers.
For printing purpose but also for archiving, we need to generate physical PCL files.
I read many posts on the subject and most of them advise to use ghostscript (GS) so I tried it but the result was not very good :
- the PCL file are too big (3 or 4 times the corresponding PDF size) so it is not good for our archiving system
- the generated PCL files cannot be correctly printed
Maybe I am not calling correctly GS ?
Can anyone working with BIP on APPS indicate to me how to generate correct and optimized PCL files in batch mode ? (with GS or any other tool)

Hi
GS is the recommendation fro development right now. They are going to release their own PDF to PCL driver in the near future but for now GS. There are many other customers using GS for PCL generation. I have not heard of customers using it as a format for archiving only printing so I guess size has not been an issue for them - just get it to the printer and delete the PCL after that!
There might be some commercial product out there but I can not recommend any at the moment.
