Problem displaying "latin capital letter A with circumflex" in Answers

Hello all,
I have "A with circumflex" in a string in the database. When I try to display it in Answers, that character is ignored completely.
AÂBCD is getting displayed as ABCD.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions!!

This behaviour is correct because CHR(194) is not a valid character in UTF8, the function CHR( ) corresponds to the encoding value of a character in the database character set encoding.
CHR(194) is only a Latin capital letter A with circumflex for ISO8859-P1.
Now to explain the behaviours that you are seeing. Whenever Oracle performs string manipulations, such as concatenation ||, SUBSTR(), INSTR() etc. It will verify to see whether a character is valid or not, if it is not valid then that character will be removed. In your case CHR(194)||CHR(194) returns NULL (0 byte) because CHR(194) is not valid character; hence DUMP() on a empty string returns NULL. If you change this to 'C'||CHR(194)||'T' then you will see that LENGTH ('C'||CHR194)||'T') returns 2 bytes, and that the DUMP command on ('C'||CHR(194)||'T') returns 0x43,0x54.
The function DUMP ( ) does not perform any character checking, because it always dump out the binary values of a string or a column.

I agree it's not a valid char sequence.
Oracle should give a error or give me hex c2c2

Problems displaying a pdf correctly (both with preview and adobe reader)

Hey guys,
I've been having problems with displaying lecture notes (pdf files) correctly. It doesn't matter if I use preview or adobe reader.
Can anyone please help me out?

I have a very similar problem: a number of pdf files that I can see perfectly well in Safari/GoogleChrome do NOT show correctly in Preview or ANY iPad app I have (Notability, Adobe, PDF Expertm iAnnotate, Dropbox etc.).
The problem is that punctuation -- with the expection of periods or bolded text -- does not show properly. For example, commas and quotation marks to not show, and some numbers to not show.
Moreover, once I have annotated/viewed the problematic file on the IPad and resync to dropbox to view on Mac vis Adobe (which I do with most pdf files with no problems), I get an error message upon reopening the pdf file saying "Cannot extract the embedded font 'FAFWQV+--unknown-2--'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." (the 'quoted' text changes each time). When opening in Preview, no error message appears, though the fole is still lacking punctuation etc.

NB: the file is in Mandarin, however I can successfully open/edit/annotate/sync other pdfs using Mandarin font so I'm not sure if the language is related to the problem.

Working in Pages '08, when I type a lower-case l, followed immediately by a slash /, I get this: ł. For example, "matching aural/visual environments" gets rendered as “matching aurałvisual environments.” This happens when I'm using Palatino, my preferred typeface. It doesn't seem to happen with Arial, and I haven't tested it with any other typefaces.
In the Macintosh Character Palette, ł is identified as "Latin small letter l with stroke. Unicode: 0142. UTF8: C5 82."
I don't know whether this is a glitch unique to Palatino or a flaw in Pages. Either way, I'd like to find a solution. Does anyone have any suggestions?

In 2005, Apple Pages version 1 included Linotype Palatino with Apple TrueType spline glyph shapes and Apple Advanced Typography composition. The AAT composition had been created in an Apple tool available in the font software section of the Apple developer site.
The composition is not programmed correctly for ISO-IEC 10646-Universal Character Set compliance. In correct programming, LATIN SMALL LETTER L WITH STROKE is composed per the graphic in the standard, and a stylistic alternate is composed in the AAT MORX table (or OT GSUB table).
That is, Apple Advanced Typography and Microsoft OpenType make a distinction between preffered letter forms which are composed in the CMAP Character Map table and presentation letter forms which are composed in the AAT MORX or OT GSUB tables.
The graphic in ISO-IEC 10646 is not a glyph variant of LATIN SMALL LETTER L followed by SOLIDUS. If you are writing Polish, the programming is utter non-sense. The same programming has LATIN SMALL LETTER O followed by SOLIDUS as ø, which is bunkum if you are writing Danish or Norwegian.
Apple's idea was to supply mnemonic support for keyboarding non-English writing systems in the Latin script, so as in US English you say of ø that it is a composite of o and slash, you keyboard ø as a composite of o and slash. Arghhhhh ...

When typing an email I need each new sentence to automaticaaly start with a capital letter. At present after a full stop the new sentence automatically starts with a lower case letternot an upper case one

Surely this should happen automatically without the need for me to touch the capital letter icon.

Either you didn't actually call Apple, and got some tech support scammer instead (calling the first number that pops up on a Google search for "Apple support" can give you some bad numbers), or the Apple tech you spoke to didn't know what he's talking about. It's not a virus.

If you installed the Devon Technologies (Freeware) WordService Service package, there is an item that will enable you to fix selected content to show initial capitals in sentences. You may need to enable this feature in the System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services selections. This only works in Pages v5.2 (and maybe later releases).

Display problem in JRE1.5 same works with 1.4.2

I have a complex swing GUI code with JTree that has display problem. The code works well with JRE1.4.2. When opened with JRE1.5_<> the display is not working. Resizing with a mouse displays though. Programmatic resize doesn't work.

I suggest you compile with 1.5 using the appropriate values of the -source and -target options to the javac command that cause it to emit 1.4 code - and see what happens.
And also review the changes and bug fixes made between the two Java versions that you're comparing, looking for changes that account for the difference you're seeing.

Problem displaying a related field with an ADF Table

I am trying to use an ADF table to display data that is setup with TopLink as a one-to-one mapping. The database table is the TICKET table and it has a field STATUS_ID. I would like to display the STATUS from the STATUS table instead of the STATUS_ID. The STATUS table has a STATUS_ID key and the ticket table is setup with a FK constraint on the STATUS table.
I have two objects, Ticket and Status, that were created from the TopLink reverse engineer. I have created the TopLink mapping and generated the data controls ( this is the same process I used when going through the SRdemo). From the data control palette I dragged the FindAllTickets to my listTicket,jspx page and it shows a menu of options. I selected the ADF Read only table option and the only fields available in the dialog are from the TICKET table??
The ADF table works and display all the data in the TICKET table but I have not been able to add another column to show the status from the STATUS table. There is a node under the findAllTickets data controlI for the Status. I dragged the individual fields over as ADF output test I can see the data from all the fields including the STATUS.STATUS field but I only see the last row. Also,this is not in a table format.
Does anyone know how to set this up with an ADF table or is there a better way?

One solution seems to use business components (a view object based on many entitiy objects) as described in the ADFBC tutorial, but like you i've based my development on the ADF tutorial and i think there is a solution but i didn't find it for the moment. I'm keep looking for a solution and if i find something, i'll send it to you.

Problems displaying itab with 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'

I have a problem displaying the internal table itab_test. Itab_uload is a TYPE TABLE of a complex and nested structure I defined in the DDIC. I am able to pass the entries, which are not conform with the specifications, to itab_test, but when I execute the program I get a short dump.
Error message is:" It was tried to pass the internal table IT_FIELDCAT to the formal parameter IT_FIELDCAT. In doing so, a ^type conflict occured between the formal and the actual parameter."
Can anybody please advise on the code-sample below. What did I wrong and what can I do to correct it?

the problem is not the exported xls. If you have a look inside with Notepad or something like that, you will see that your leading zeros are exported correct.Excel-settings occurs this problem, it is all about how to open the document. If you use the import-assistant you will have no problems because there are options available how to handle the different columns.
Another solution might be to get familiar with ABAP2XLS-Project. I got in my mind, that there is a method implemented, that will help you solving this problem. But that is not a five minute job

You can mark the rows starting with lower case letters using a formula, then filter on the contents of the column containing the formula. For the example below, the names are in column B and the formula is in column C.
C2: =IF(AND(CODE(B)>=95,CODE(B)<=122),"!!!","")
CODE returns the ASCII code for the first character in the target cell. Lower case letters have ASCII codes in the range specified in the formula: a = 95, z = 122
For names starting with characters in this range, the forula returns a string of three exclamation points. For any other initial character, the formula returns a null string ( "" ).
An empty cell in column B will cause the formula to return an error in that row of column C. You can avoid this by embedding the formula in an IF statement that suppresses the calculation if the length of the entry in column B is less than one character. Revised formula shown below.

General File Recovery

The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
