Problem figuring out annotation using Robot class

HI
I have made a desktop sharing tool using the robot class in java. On the server end it captures screen and on the client end i have used a jlabel to diplay it....
Now i want to extend it to allow users to draw on screen while that is being transmitted to the client end.
The major problem for me is i dont know how do i get the frame being transmitted as the window i create to diplay the contents being capture would come to the top and hence its contents will be captured by the robot class......
How can i solve this????

I can suggest to you a solution to "draw" on the screen, but you won't be able to see what you're drawing as you draw it.
You'll need a seperate thread to poll the position of the mouse every 20 or so milliseconds. You can use
java.awt.MouseInfo.getPointerInfo().getlocation();to get the location of the mouse.
You then implement your drawing algorithms to draw on a BufferedImage of TYPE_4BYTE_ABGR or any of the other types that support transparency. Of course, the image needs to be the size of the screen. Then on every single image you stream, you draw your ABGR image ontop of the one you are about the stream. Voila.
As I said though, you can't actually see what you're drawing. In order to see what you are drawing you need to display it in a window that scales down the images and is unobtrusive. Of course, this window in turn will be caught by the screen capture, so the clients will be able to "see" your helper window.
On the other hand, if all you are doing is streaming images of a *single java window* (not the whole desktop) and all you need to do is draw on that single java window, then I can reccomend to you a better solution that utilizes the GlassPane for drawing. By using the the glass pane, the drawings will appear directly on the window, and you don't need a helper window to see your drawings.

Problem with constructors and using public classes

Hi, I'm totally new to Java and I'm having a lot of problems with my program :(
I have to create constructor which creates bool's array of adequate size to create a sieve of Eratosthenes (for 2 ->n).
Then it has to create public method boolean prime(m) which returs true if the given number is prime and false if it's not prime.
And then I have to create class with main function which chooses from the given arguments the maximum and creates for it the sieve
(using the class which was created before) and returns if the arguments are prime or not.
This is what I've written but of course it's messy and it doesn't work. Can anyone help with that?

Doing Shift-End using Robot class

I am trying to use the Robot class to do a Shift-End in order to select the text in a window from the cursor to the end of the line. However, the following code only moves the cursor to the end of the line without selecting the text.

Note that I have been able to make the following code work. So the problem with the code above does not seem to be with the Shift key per se or with the ordering of the statements.

Any idea how to make the Shift-End work? I am using an XP PC.

My ENTIRE code follows. Not surprisingly, the shiftEnd.actionPerformed gets a nullPointerException during execution. And being new to Java, I get the feeling I might be missing a whole bunch of stuff. For example, do I need to register for events? Do I need to generate a shift-End ActionEvent somehow? It is only the last 4 lines that are at issue here. Everything down to that point accomplishes what I want, i.e., position the mouse in a text window in the upper right-hand corner of my screen, move the cursor to the top of that window, then go down 5 lines. At that point, I want to do the shift-End to select all text in the line.

I have an iPad 4 generation and just purchased my first apple cell phone. I am having problems figuring out how to sync the 2. I called Verizon and because my iPad isn't using the 4G it can (I just haven't needed to use it) the tech person can't do it.

I have never needed to use the 4G Verizon option so Versizon tech said they can't do it and Apple needs to. But I no longer have Applecare and it doesn't yet recogniz my Applecare with my new phone (new yesterday). Anyone know the steps so I can sync the two and sync the Clouds then? Thanks

You cannot sync the two devices together. You can keep the two devices in sync by using iCloud and some of the available settings on both devices. Go to Settings>iCloud and you can turn on Reminders , Calendars, Notes, Safari Bookmarks, Contacts, Photo Stream, Mail, Keychain, etc.
You can go to Settings>iTunes and App Store>Automatic Downloads and turn on apps, songs, books and updates to keep all of those items in sync as well.
But why don't you explain exactly what you mean by syncing the two devices? What do you hope to accomplish?

Problem with outer joins and the class indicator/discriminator

I am having a problem defining a query in toplink (10.1.3.3).
In the workbench, I have created a parent and 2 child descriptors. The parent is "AbstractValue", the children are "DefaultValue", classified by the discriminator 'DEF', and "OverrideValue", classified by 'OVR', both located in the same table.
Another descriptor (containing a one-on-one mapping to both a "DefaultValue", and a "OverrideValue") needs to be queried for its 'value'.
The way the query should act is: If an override value (row) exists, this one applies for that object. If an override doesn't exist, return the default value.
The query then comes down to (as I have it now):

The problem is that toplink adds the distinction for the different kind of "values" in the where clause WITHOUT checking for null values e.g. it performs an outer join, but then still checks for the discriminator value thus
....t1.ovr_id = t2.id(+) AND t2.discriminator = 'OVR' AND ...
instead of
... LEFT JOIN values t2 ON (t1.ovr_id = t2.id AND t2.discriminator = 'OVR') ...
This leads to the behaviour that the query returns ONLY the objects that have override and default values.

This is a bug in TopLink's outer join support for Oracle. Currently the outer join is put in the where clause, instead of the from clause, as we do on other platforms. You might be able to fix it by changing your OraclePlatform to return false for shouldPrintOuterJoinInWhereClause().
Please log this bug on EclipseLink, or through Oracle technial support.

Unique Problem: Returning SOAP+ Attachment using a class based webservice

Hi everyone,
Im trying to return a Soap+ attachment response back using the following:
attachDoc(byte[] bdoc, String sTransactionNumber,
String sRequestedType)
Where byte[] is the attachment and the 2 string parameters are soap message contents.
The attachment is attached successfully to the message and i can send a response back to the clients console using :
message.writeTo(System.out);
My problem is that i dont know how to return this soapmessage+attachment back to the client.
Ive tried using the return type of the method as :
public SOAPMessage attachDoc(byte[] bdoc, String sTransactionNumber,
String sRequestedType)
but i cant return a SOAPMessage return type in axis.
Does anyone have any clues how i should sort this out so that the client gets the SOAPMessage and attachment when the method is called ?

Problem with File Upload using SmartUpload class.

Hello.
I need to get a file from client browser. I have HTML form that has mixed data, parameters and files submitted to server. I looked through the forum messages and got the, recommended by many, SmartUpload class. The problem is: when I call SmartUpload.upload() method my system hangs. It takes forever to download a file that is 20Kb. Below is the code from my source:

I tried the com.oreilly.servlet.multipart.MultipartParser class, also mentioned in forum messages. I used exactly the same html page to submit the same file and other parameters. It worked just fine. The only reason I need SmartUpload class is because it has getParameterValues(�) method that returns String array of values.
Do you have any idea what is going on? If you know how to get array of values and file(s) without using SmartUpload from a html page, please help me with it.

I looked at MultipartRequest class before but the problems is that it saves upload file directly to disk (push technology). I need to save this file into an XML database, using InputStream, (the upload file is normally xml document or an image).

Problem figuring out the encoding for filenames with special characters

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but this does seem like an OS issue.
I brought in a lot of mp3 and m3u files from a Windows machine to my new Mac. Some of the mp3 files have accented characters in their names, and these names appear in the m3u files. But if I add the m3u file to iTunes, it fails to recognize these names and so I lose all the mp3's with special characters in their names.
I tried to fix this by grabbing the files name in Python, but that didn't work either!
Here's an example: the file's name is "Voilà l'été.mp3"
The m3u files says "Voil\xe0 l'\xe9t\xe9.mp3" -- this doesn't work.
From os.listdir(), I get Voila\xcc\x80 l'e\xcc\x81te\xcc\x81.mp3", but sticking it in an m3u files doesn't work either. (Note that here the characters are encoded as unaccented letter + two byte code for the accent).
When I try these strings from python, e.g. doing os.stat(), they both work; but iTunes doesn't understand any of them!
I'd appreciate any hints on how to enter these names in the m3u file so that iTunes can read it. Thanks!

I know nothing about "m3u" files and how iTunes interprets the file names in them, but if it is not a relative/absolute path problem, then how about just putting the raw file names (not the ones with backslash escape) in m3u file? For example, just put
Voilà l'été.mp3
in m3u?
As for Unicode encoding, HFS+ file system uses the "decomposed form" for accented characters. This means, as you write, à is hex "61 cc 80" in UTF-8, i.e., "a + COMBINING GRAVE ACCENT". The pre-composed form is hex "c3 a0". But my experience is that in most cases both pre-composed and decomosed forms work at the user level (not at the lowest file system level).

If it even has that built-in, you would configure it using Airport Utility. It would likely be in the Wireless configuration for first turning on security and then setting the required password. For Macs you should use WPA Personal if the option is present.

Robot.class commands ignored by program

Hi,
I wrote a program that uses Robot.class to control some client application.
It worked fine under windows XP.
That was a while back and now I've tried it again and it doesn't work.
Two things changes since then:
I am using windows 7 now.
I have a new version of the client application.
My questions are:
1. Is it possible to ignore commands coming from the robot class? How would the ignoring program know to do this? (normal mouse commands work of course)
2. Is there some problem in windows 7 using the robot class? (i doubt it since in works on other windows but...)
3. Is there any other way to send mouse/keyboard commands to other programs from java code?

As Andrew says, the Robot works fine on Windows 7, as 'fine' as such a class can work. What I mean by that?
Applications based on the Robot class are inherently fragile and subject to failures when: screen resolution changes, UI themes are invoved, aero, client application changes or 'adapts' itself to another environment. This is especially true when it comes to mouse handling: a click at x,y that was hitting a button in environment A may hit nothing in B.
So yes, the Robot works in Windows 7, but you may have to rewrite the application.
By the way, after trying hard some ltime ago to use java and the Robot for such things and having to struggle with JNI to get something reasonable, I completely gave up and re-wrote it in C#. Even in C# I absolutely stayed away from the mouse, but my client application had keyboard support for al I needed. And even in C# I had to call native API's, but it's easier.

Servicegen- Any what to find what class uses a class?

I'm trying to use the servicegen ant task to make a webservice out of an existing
Java class. Servicegen is failing, however, with the complaint that something
is using the PrintWriter class which has no default constructor and, hence, can't
be made serializable.
Looking though my code, however, I could only find two places where a System.out.println()
was used and no other obvious cases of a PrintWriter instance. I've removed both
of the println() calls and recompiled, but still get the same error from servicegen.
Unfortunately, the only diagnostic output I can see is the stacktrace from ant
itself which isn't very helpful. So, I was wondering, does anyone know how I could
figure out where this PrintWriter class is coming from?

You can try adding -v to the ant task, it may provide additional
information. Concerning servicegen, be sure to remove the ".class" from
yourjavaClassComponents, e.g. just use the class name without the
".class"

Why robot class doesnt get cursor

i am using robot class , when i use createScreenCapture
method it gets the everything on the screen but not the cursor.
why? can i create i image that also get the cursor?

MouseEvent provides a method:
public Point getPoint()
that returns the x,y position of the event relative to the source component.
I guess it must be the archiect's view that the cursor is not a the screen, rather a device that points to the screen.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.

At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test.
