Problem in Client authentication in JSSE on a web service

Hi,
I am having a Web service running on my Web server (Sunone 6.1). I need to implement Security on it using JSSE. It has to be a MUTUAL authentication.
I have installed all the certificates and CA certs on both Client and server. But when I try to call the web service from a standalone Java test client I am getting error on the third step of handshake process that is CLient authentication.
I am not able to understand whether it is authentication problem or some problem while encrypting and decrypting the data. I am sending and receiving data in xml format
I am pasting here the debug output from client side. ALthough it is long but please any one help me on this.
Or if any one can point out what are the various steps depicting the debug statement
Thanks

• Problems sending xml data as string to a web service

Hello!
I need to develop a client in order to invoke a web service. I have the WSDL of the web service, so I generate a web service proxy, from that WSDL, using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.
Among other things, that web service receive RPC request (binding style is RPC) and the request has only one parameter, which consists of a string. That string must be an XML document (that is, the web service receives one parameter which is a XML document as a String). I generate that parameter, and it looks like the following:

<inputMessage xmlns="http://ws/validacion" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.o
rg/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:SchemaLocation="http://localhost/ws/xsd/mservic/ws.xsd">
<request>ServiceRequest</request>
<versionMsg>1.0</versionMsg>
<data>AAAAAAAAAAAAAA</data>
</inputMessage>
However, when I send the request and capture it through HTTPAnalyzer, I get the following:
<soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"><soapenv:Body><MyWebService xmlns="http://soapinterop.org/"><myWebServiceRequest xsi:type="xsd:string" xmlns=""><?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>

<versionMsg>1.0</versionMsg>
<data>AAAAAAAAAAAAAA</data>
</inputMessage></myWebServiceRequest></MyWebService></soapenv:Body></soapenv:Envelope>

• Get the client (caller) IP in a RESTFul web service resource

Hello,
How i can get the client (caller) IP inside a RESTFul web service resource?
Something like for SOAP Web Services
MessageContext msgCtxt = wsCtxt.getMessageContext();
HttpServletRequest req = (HttpServletRequest) msgCtxt.get(MessageContext.SERVLET_REQUEST);
String clientIP = req.getRemoteAddr();
Thank You

1) Are you trying to create a RESTful web service in LabVIEW?
or
2) Are you wondering about creating a thin client to consume the web service?
A1) Web Services in LabVIEW
A2) LabVIEW WebUI Builder You can create a VI to act as a client for your web services, but not a thin client (i.e. running in the browser)

• Client in Visualbasic/C to JavaTM Web Services server

Hi
can I use client written in Visualbasic or C to access to JavaTM Web Services server.
If yes does someone have source code for me?
Thanks

Hi,
I've got a VB (6.0) client that talks to a Java Web Service.
It's a simple VB program and a simple server, but the messages flow.
Also check out:
1) http://www.scottnichol.com/soap.htm
2) http://www.scottnichol.com/vbclienthiapachesoap.htm
3) http://www.scottnichol.com/vbclientapachesoap.htm
You will also need the latest SOAP libraries from M$.
How can I get code to you?
I found the TcpTunnelGui most helpful (I think it's in the Apache file: soap-bin-2.3.1.zip).

• Client authentication in JSSE using personal keystore in Internet Explorer

We are writing a standalone Java application that is required to use SSL for socket communucation. It is expected to read the SSL certificates from IE keystore in windows. We haven't got the client authentication to work when client certificate is installed in IE. It appears that there is some compatibility issue between the security implementation in JSSE and IE. We get the handshake error as the SSL encryption didn't work.
Has anyone else seen this issue and is there is a fix or workaround available? We can't use Java keystore so unfortunately that option is out.
Any help will be much appreciated.

We get Handshake exception. Here is the stack trace and exception. It appears that this may be a known limitation on JSSE.

• A strainge problem..client authentication

HI,
I am able to work out an application which beside server cert authentication also has client authentication. For server i have created a cert using keytool or jdk1.4 and having its public key in client's trusted store.for client crt i have installed a 60 day Personal certificate on IE. i have exported this cert from IE and hence included its public key in trust store of server and keep its keystore for client authentication.. everything works fine...
say this was a tomcat server on my machine on which i originally installed personal sertificate..say it machine A....now on some other machine on same network for another tomcat i have created another cert using keystore and accessing it..i am having its public key also in the client truststore...i have also kept client's public key of personal cert in the trust store of server of machine B...but for this server it works only without client authentication...
for both machine/servers i have done perfectly same thing..both server has client's public key and client has both servers public key in their respective trust store...i have checked it using the IBM key Man...
the only difference is that A is the machine on which i originally installed the personal certificate..
Any guess or idea...why it might be happening...its killing me...
Akhil

Hi,
i could not find anything suspicious happening in log files...however today i tried to find out access the same server on machine B using my browser IE on my machine A. This is the browser i installed my Personal Certificate. Now its public key is present in trust store of tomcat on machine B.
Hoeever when i accessed it . browser prompts with a list of empty list of client certificates...but when i try to access the my local machine (A) server it prompts me with one certificate..
why is this..what i understand is that "if i am having a personal certificate from some CA installed in my browser,then whatever secure website which needs client authentication i access,my browser should prompt me with the list of certificates installed.." "whether that website has my public key in their trust store or not".....am i correct??....now why my brorwser shows empty list when i access server B and a list with one certificate when i access server A..
any thoughts...

• Client authentication in PI when SAP Web dispatcher terminates SSL

PI Security Experts,
Here is our design for Third-party Peoplesoft system initiating SOAP Call to PI Web Service created on our PI server.
1) Third-party Peoplesoft Application server initiates a SOAP call.
2) Third-party Network Gateway has a URL server certificate from our gateway and our gateway server has a root certificate from the CA used by third-party gateway. this will be used to establish the SSL tunnel between gateway.
3) SOAP request in our network will be routed through load balancer to SAP web dispatcher.
4) SAP web dispatcher terminates SSL connection
5) We will generate client cert for authentication and pass it onto third-party which they will load onto their PeopleSoft application server. SOAP call initiating from the PeopleSoft server will pass the client cert along with the message (My understanding is that the client cert will not be a part of SOAP message body. Ina other words we are not implementing message-level security. Is that true? How will the client cert be passed? How and where will a client attach the client cert with message?My understanding is that this is a network layer security and client certificate will be authenticated on PI J2ee server at SSL protocol level..Is my understanding correct?)
6) We will also load client certificate generated for client onto J2EE server using Visual Admin and map it to PI user for authentication.
7) SAP web dispatcher terminates SSL and passes the SOAP message to PI (J2EE) along with client cert in a http header variable.
There is some conflicting SAP documents. some say that client cert can't be used for PI authentication if Web Dispatcher terminates SSL connection (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/ea/301e3e6217b40be10000000a114084/frameset.htm). There is some other documents that say that authentication using client cert is possible by having J2EE trusting Web Dispatcher and by passing client cert from Web Dispatcher to J2EE in a httpheader variable (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/ea/301e3e6217b40be10000000a114084/content.htm).
Now if client cert authentication is possible even if Web dispatcher terminates SSL, what cert do we need on J2EE, a cert from Web dispatcher or a client cert that's coming in from the client appication (the one that we created and provided to our third-party)?
If we install a cert from web dispatcher on J2EE then do we need a client cert on Web dispatcher instead of on J2EE? If so how and where do we map client cert to PI User?
I will really appreciate any advise on whether we are going down the right path and any pointers to my questions.
Thanks,
Saurabh

Regarding message level you can encrypt the message using certificates.
For both of this basis team has to deploy the releavant certificates in XI ABAP Stack or Java stack.
Generally if the scenarios are intra company we dont use any transport level or message level security since the network is already secured.

• Basic http authentication not working when consuming Web Service in BPEL.

Hi,
I am consuming an AXIS Web Service from BPEL 10.1.3. The Web Service uses basic http
authentication so we need a way to get username and password into the http
header. In the Oracle BPEL Process Manager Administrator's Guide 10g
(10.1.3.1.0) section 1.3.4.1 HTTP Basic Authentication (10.1.2.0.2) is stated
that this can be done using the properties httpUsername and httpPassword. I
have set the 2 for the partner link in bpel.xml but username and password does
not get in to the http header. Has anybody got an idea?
Regards Pete

I'm having the same sorts of problems with 10.1.3.1.0. I've got a deployed BPEL suitcase that's trying to hit a BASIC AUTH-secured web service running on a WebLogic 8.1 server. I've set up my partner link according to the documentation, and the BPEL console Descriptor tab even shows the parameters correctly:
partnerLinkBindings
client
wsdlLocation      awardService.wsdl
spsAwardSubmitPartnerLink
basicHeaders      credentials
basicUsername      ko1
basicPassword      xxxxx
wsdlLocation      IAwardDraftServiceRef1.wsdl
However, when I funnel the resultant call to the endpoint specified in IAwardDraftServiceRef1.wsdl, none of the fields I would expect show up in the HTTP header:
POST /pd2WebServices/service/IAwardDraftService HTTP/1.1
Host: vm-orcl-app-srv:4444
Connection: Keep-Alive, TE
TE: trailers, deflate, gzip, compress
User-Agent: Oracle HTTPClient Version 10h
SOAPAction: ""
Accept-Encoding: gzip, x-gzip, compress, x-compress
Content-type: text/xml; charset=UTF-8
Content-length: 3800

<env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"><env:Body><IAwardDraftSubmitNew xmlns="http://www.caci.com/pd2/pub">
<IAwardDraft>
<accessController/>
<agreementEndDate/>
Is there some other configuration piece I'm missing?? I've tried the other variation using httpBasicHeaders, with the same results. I even noted that the "Oracle® BPEL Process Manager Administrator's Guide" says that "Starting with Oracle BPEL Process Manager release 10.1.3, all partner link properties are automatically propagated into the HTTP header." I've tried putting "extra" parms in the partner link bindings, but they don't show up either.
What am I missing??
Thanks,
Mike

what is the problem? how come i can't initiate the process?

thanks in advance

can you initate the process from the bpel console successfully?
if so can you use obtunnel from the installation to trace the soap message (that goes over the wire), my best guess in this case is a problem with a header (holding the wsa information) ..
after starting obtunnel it will liesten to a custom port, and will forward the request to the engine, so you need to point your client to this new port..

• Authenticating EJB 3 Session Bean Web services

I have some session beans that I want to expose directly as web services in Glassfish.
My question is how do I protect them to only be used by authorized people?
Do I simply use standard role based JEE authentication like normal session beans?
Is there a client example that talks to an authenticated session bean?
If this isn't the way it is done, can someone provide an example on how it should be done?
Thanx!

The portable way to retrieve an EJB reference in Java EE is to either inject it or look it up via the
component's private naming environment. The simplest way is :
@EJB
private DocumentManager dm;
The global JNDI name is only used as an implementation specific way to uniquely assign an
identifier to a specific Remote EJB. It's best for this not to appear directly in the source code.
There's more on global JNDI names in our EJB FAQ :
https://glassfish.dev.java.net/javaee5/ejb/EJB_FAQ.html
The alternative to annotations is to use an ejb-ref to declare the ejb dependency. The ejb-ref
is declared in the standard deployment descriptor corresponding to the component doing the
lookup. Each ejb-ref has an ejb-ref-name, e.g. <ejb-ref-name>DM_ref</ejb-ref-name>
The code looks up the ejb-ref-name relative to the java:comp/env namespace to retrieve the
EJB reference.
DocumentManager dm = (DocumentManager)
new InitialContext().lookup("java:comp/env/DM_ref");

• Facing problem while going to catch return result from web-services.

Hi everybody,
I am new to BPEL. I am facing problem while going to catch the attributes of resultsets returning from web-services(QAS). As far as my knowledge, two types of results it should return - XML entities and another is attributes which is coming as the part of XML entitites. I am able to catch the XML entities, but can't catch the attributes under it. Even, I am not able to see whether web-services returning something within that field.
When, I tried to catch the attribute and store to a temporary varilable using the following code:
*<assign name="AssignQASDoGetAddress1">*
*<copy>*
*<from variable="InvokeQAS_DoSearch_OutputVariable"*
part="body"
query="/ns6:QASearchResult/ns6:QAPicklist/ns6:PicklistEntry/@PostcodeRecoded"/>
*<to variable="temp"/>*
*</copy>*
*</assign>*
but, I am facing the following selectionFailure errors after running it:
*"{http://schemasxmlsoap.org/ws/2003/03/business-process/}selectionFailure" has been thrown.*
-<selectionFailure xmlns="http://schemasxmlsoap.org/ws/2003/03/business-process/">
-<part name="summary">
*
*
empty variable/expression result.
xpath variable/expression expression "bpws:getVariableData('InvokeQAS_DoSearch_OutputVariable', 'body', '/ns6:QASearchResult/ns6:QAPicklist/ns6:PicklistEntry/@PostcodeRecoded')" is empty at line 269, when attempting reading/copying it.
Please make sure the variable/expression result "bpws:getVariableData('InvokeQAS_DoSearch_OutputVariable', 'body', '/ns6:QASearchResult/ns6:QAPicklist/ns6:PicklistEntry/@PostcodeRecoded')"is not empty.
*
*
*</part>*
*</selectionFailure>*
Getting this error it seems to me that web-service is returning nothing, but, it returns something as it has been catched using a method called isPostcodeRecoded() Java Code in Oracle ADF. This method has been used as it should return boolean whereas for catching the xml entities using java code we used the method like getPostcode(), getMoniker().
For your information, we are using Jdeveloper as the development tool for building the BPEL process.
Am I doing any syntax error. Please consider it as urgent and provide me asolution.
Thanks in advance.
Chandrachur.

Thanks Dave and Marc, for your suggestions. Actually what I found is QAS web-service is returning nothing as attributes when the attributes are set to the default value. For example, following is the part of the wsdl of the result which QAS webservice returns.
<xs:element name="QASearchResult">
- <xs:complexType>
- <xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="QAPicklist" type="qas:QAPicklistType" minOccurs="0" />

<xs:attribute name="Timeout" type="xs:boolean" default="false" />

<xs:complexType name="PicklistEntryType">
- <xs:sequence>
<xs:element name="Moniker" type="xs:string" />
<xs:element name="PartialAddress" type="xs:string" />
<xs:element name="Picklist" type="xs:string" />
<xs:element name="Postcode" type="xs:string" />

<xs:attribute name="IncompleteAddr" type="xs:boolean" default="false" />
<xs:attribute name="UnresolvableRange" type="xs:boolean" default="false" />
<xs:attribute name="PhantomPrimaryPoint" type="xs:boolean" default="false" />
</xs:complexType>
here the attributes like FullAddress, PostcodeRecodedare , etc. are not being return by the web-service when it is getting the default value false. But, if it gets true then , it is being displayed at the BPEL console.
Do you have any idea how can I catch the attributes and its value even when it gets the default value which is already set. Previously, it was returning(it was not being displayed at the console).
Thanks once again for your valuable suggestions...!!!

• Basic Authentication for load testing WSDL Web Service

I'm trying to load test a web service; the WSDL URL is behind a username and password, using the basic http authentication. I can add the WSDL URL without issue with the username and password, but when I playback the script, I get "401 Unauthorized" errors
I looked at Preferences > Record > Web Services > Proxy Configuration, which then refers you to Preferences > Record > HTTP > Proxy Settings. I also looked at similar settings under Preferences > Playback.
I am running OpenScript (9.1), how do I configure this ... ?
Many thanks!

Hello
You can right click on the initialize section of your script then:
Add -> Other -> HTTP -> Authentication.
You need 3 parameters:
A url - http://someurl - that will authenticate any url that contains the http://someurl string e.g http://someurl.com/index.html
A password
A user
The following code should be added in your script:
http.addAuthentication("http://someurl", "username",
deobfuscate("5blNah5kX/XuZnepYwInFw=="));Hope this helps
