EXECUTE IMMEDIATE ' create table STOCKPOS2_TEMP as select * from STOCKPOS2 ';
else
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE ' create table STOCKPOS2_TEMP as select * from STOCKPOS2 ';

    Regards,
    Mathew

    In general, I would suggest that you only catch errors that you can handle reasonably. If you know that a SELECT INTO might return 0 rows for example, handle the NO_DATA_FOUND exception. Having a WHEN OTHERS, particularly without re-raising the exception, only serves to hide the source of the problem. I would much rather that my code fail quickly and explicitly than hope that I see an error message in the output and that other code doesn't start failing because the system wasn't left in an appropriate state.
    As Mark suggests, you may choose to implement a comprehensive logging framework using autonomous transactions, in which case a WHEN OTHERS would be reasonable, but you would still want to propagate exceptions you cannot handle.
    If you see a WHEN OTHERS clause and there is no RAISE, you probably have an error waiting to happen.

  • Problem in executing procedure in 8.1.7

    Hi,
    I have created the below mentioned procedure. It got compiled successfully. But when i try to execute it is giving error
    "PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'P1' ORA-06550: line2, column3: PL/SQL".
    But if i hardcode the projectId to any number value & execute the procedure, it is getting executed successfully.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE p1 (projectid NUMBER)

    CURSOR c1
    IS
    SELECT sl_no, col1, col2, col3

    BEGIN
    FOR i IN c1
    LOOP
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line ('Success');
    END LOOP;
    END;
    Basically here i am selecting some columns from third level SELECT. If i change it to second level SELECT it works fine without hardcoding. Can you help me in finding the problem in the code.
    Thanks for the help,
    Sunil.

    Sunil,
    Hierarchical query ie CONNECT BY PRIOR clause doesnt work on views or inline views in Oracle 8.1.7. So your procedure is failing. Upto 8.1.7, the hierarchical queries work only on tables.
    If you try the same in 9i, it will work.
    Hope this helps

  • PLS-00306,problem while executing procedure from oracle e_comerce

    Hi
    I have writen a procedure in oracle.Tere i have a parameter with type varchar2.
    While i registered it in e_comerce i choosed the value set as 15characters.
    When i am runing the program from my ecomerce application it gives an error as below:
    ORACLE error 6550 in FDPSTP
    Cause: FDPSTP failed due to ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'PO_OUTPUT'
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    there is no error when i am executing my procedure in toad/sql+ but this error comes only in e_comerce application.
    PLease tell what is the reason and what can be the solution?

    Hi,
    <p>
    The function has the following parameters:<br>
    function insertj(jnum j.j#%type, jname j.jname%type, city j.city%type)<br>
    where j# is varchar2(5), jname is varchar2(35) and city is varchar2(35)<br>.
    I was trying to insert the following values:<br>
    j#:='J11', jname:='JobName' and city:='Paris'.<br>
    </p>
    <p>
    The procedure just calls this function with the same parameters. It is very strange because it is hard to see what the problem is. The line 10 is return 0 in the function where I believe the error comes from. It starts in the procedure and then goes in the function body, if I am interpreting this right.
    </p>
    <p>
    Any idea?
    </p>
    Thanks!

  • Problems with executing shell script within oracle procedure

    I have procedure that's owned by Semantic user. This procedure calls job scheduler (owned by USER1) which in turn executes a shell script load_semantic.sh (owned by USER1).
    Now, there is a shell script(checkCount.sh)inside of this one (owned by this USER1) that has following contents:
    checkCount.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    MODEL=$1
    sqlplus -S user/pass << EOF
    whenever sqlerror exit 1;
    set echo on
    set verify off
    MERGE INTO SEMANTIC.COUNT_STATISTICS s
    USING (SELECT '$MODEL' AS MODEL, 0 AS NEW_COUNT, SYSDATE AS NEW_DATE, 0 AS OLD_COUNT, SYSDATE AS OLD_DATE FROM dual) t
    on (s.MODEL = t.MODEL)
    when not matched then
    INSERT (s.MODEL, s.NEW_COUNT, s.NEW_DATE, s.OLD_COUNT, s.OLD_DATE)
    VALUES (t.MODEL, t.NEW_COUNT, t.NEW_DATE, t.OLD_COUNT, t.OLD_DATE);
    COMMIT;
    UPDATE SEMANTIC.COUNT_STATISTICS SET  MODEL = '$MODEL', NEW_COUNT = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM TABLE(SEM_MATCH('{?s ?p ?o}',SEM_Models('$MODEL'),NULL,SEM_ALIASES(SEM_ALIAS('','http://VISION/DataSource/SEMANTIC#')),NULL)) ),NEW_DATE  = SYSDATE,
    OLD_COUNT = NEW_COUNT, OLD_DATE  = NEW_DATE WHERE MODEL = '$MODEL' AND NEW_DATE = (select max(NEW_DATE) from SEMANTIC.COUNT_STATISTICS where MODEL = '$MODEL');
    COMMIT;
    exit;
    EOF
    So when I execute SEMANTIC.PROCEDURE:
    SEMANTIC.PROCEDURE => USER1.JOBSCHEDULER =>USER1.load_semantic.sh =>USER1.checkCount.sh
    It never populates the table SEMANTIC.COUNT_STATISTICS.
    I tried giving all of the permissions but I am probably missing something...
    Maybe fresh eyes can see something that I can't.

    I can't believe I am going to say this but the reason it was not working was because I removed oracle environment path from my script by mistake.
    . /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
    Ugh...
    Now it is working perfectly.
    Btw, sqlplus does know about shell environment variables.
    THANK YOU GUYS!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I ONLY HAVE YOU TO TALK TO WHEN I AM STUCK ON A PROBLEM.

    Deekay,
    If you grant create table privilege and create table in the same procedure, then how you will differentiate that which user you granted the privilege and in which schema, you are creating the table. Here, you are granting to "cmuser", but in the same schema, you are creating the table also. How can a user grant privilege to himself?
    Login as DBA, grant create any table privilege to "cmuser" from dba. Then, you can execute you procedure in "cmuser" schema.

    Thank you very much fellows.
    But I have reached at this point that one has to have create view privellege explicitly to create view using a dynamic sql statemetn. Actually I could create the view using SQL*Plus and every thing was working fine through SQL*Plus. But I granted the rights of create user from a user having DBA role.
    Anyways! Thank you very much for contributing this discussion. I really appreciate it.

  • Problem while executing a Stored Procedure

    Hi,

    Thanks Frank, it worked seamlessly!
    btw what the ':' signifies here?":" just means "this is a bind variable".
    It's convenient, because when you name a bind variable "phr", you can use ":phr" without worrying whether there is a column or a local variable that is also called phr, and, if so, which one takes precedence.

  • Strange problem with executing PL/SQL procedure from sqlplus.

    Hello,
    basicly, I'm strugling with executing a procedure written in PL/SQL from sqlplus.
    It's all because I convert a data in procedure by other function.
    SELECT partition_name
    INTO strpartition
    FROM user_tab_partitions
    WHERE table_name = tablename_in
    and substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)) = (SELECT F_CONVERT_DATE(tablename_in,p_date) from dual);
    /tablename_in and p_date are input parameters/
    Function F_CONVERT_DATE looks more less like :
    select
    TO_CHAR(TRUNC(NEXT_DAY(ADD_MONTHS(substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)), -3), 'MONDAY')-7), 'YYYYMMDD')
    END
    AS p_date
    INTO v_okr
    FROM user_tab_partitions
    where substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)) = p_date;
    Well, the thing is that procedure is executable from TOAD without any errors !! But when I try to execute it straight from sqlplus it returns:
    ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
    ORA-06512: at "F_CONVERT_DATE", line 13
    ORA-06512: at "NAME_OF_PROCEDURE", line 17
    Tip: When I don't use functions ADD_MONTHS, NEXT_DAY and TO_CHAR in function F_CONVERT_DATE sqlplus can execute it. But only when I use them it returns an error.
    Anybody has a clue how to solve it?
    Regards !

    Hi, Nodex,
    Avoid implicit conversions.
    For example:
    TO_CHAR(TRUNC(NEXT_DAY(ADD_MONTHS(substr(partition_name, -8, length(partition_name)), -3), 'MONDAY')-7), 'YYYYMMDD')ADD_MONTHS expects a DATE as its first argument.
    SUBSTR returns a VARCHAR2, so you're calling ADD_MONTHS with a VARCHAR2 where it expects a DATE.
    For good or ill, the system tries to avoid raising an error in this case by implicitly converting the VARCHAR2 to a DATE. Exactly how it does that depends on
    (a) the tool you are using (SQL*Plus or Toad, for example),
    (b) the version (Oracle 10 behaved quite different form Oracle 9),
    (c) environmental settings (such as NLS_DATE_FORMAT), which in turn may depend on initialization parameneters, and
    (d) who knows what else.
    When you have to convert, do so explicitly.
    You can convert a VARCHAR2 to a DATE using TO_DATE, like this:
    TO_CHAR ( TRUNC ( NEXT_DAY ( ADD_MONTHS ( TO_DATE ( SUBSTR ( partition_name
                                                       , -8
                                          , LENGTH (partition_name)
                                     , 'YYYYMMDD'     -- or whatever
                             , -3
                      , 'MONDAY'
              - 7
         , 'YYYYMMDD'
         )

  • Problem calling PL/SQL procedures from Function Activity Issue

    Hi,
    I am working with Oracle Workflow and I have found some problems adding a function activity in the process diagram. This function only updates some registers on the data base, or at least it should do that.
    I have been looking through the items in this forum and I have found similar things but not the right one. Of course I am a learner in all this and maybe the answer in there.
    I will try to show you my problem:
    When the procedure is supposed to be called, it doesnt´t do that and instead I found the following error:
    Wf_Engine_Util.Function_Call(usuario.WF_FIN_TG.FINTG1, FLUJO1, 092S0087, 588782, RUN) ORA-01403: no data found
    I have tested all the queries from TOAD and SAL Server, and all of them return some results.
    I have tried to take out all the queries from the procedure as the following to try to avoid or change the error but it continues as "ORA-01403: no data found":
    PROCEDURE FINTG1(
    p_itemtype IN VARCHAR2,
    p_itemkey IN VARCHAR2,
    p_actid IN NUMBER,
    p_funcmode IN VARCHAR2,
    p_resultado IN OUT VARCHAR2
    ) IS
    flujo VARCHAR2(;
    p_resultado :=1;
    END FINTG1;
    It seems as the workflow engine try to search something before executing my procedure.
    Has anybody any idea about how to solve this problem? Thanks a lot.

    WF_ENGINE_UTIL.Function_Call is the lowest level procedure executed by the engine before it executes the procedure associated with the function activity. I am not sure if this procedure would throw ORA 1403 since this does not have a query or a collection.
    Please note that ORA 1403 could occur from a SQL query or a collection.
    Looking at your code, p_resultado :=1;
    The function activity should return a resultout that the workflow engine understands. The valid results from the function activities as per the workflow guide are,
    wf_engine.eng_completed - 'COMPLETE'; -- Normal completion
    wf_engine.eng_active - 'ACTIVE'; -- Activity running

  • SSIS package fails when it is executed by procedure (2008)

    Hi there,
    I have a very anoying problem with SSIS. I've done new packages into same project, almost identical compared to old ones. They work well in visual studio, but I can't execute them using procedure. Old packages works just fine, but none of the new. Error
    message is in the end of my story.
    Visual Studio version is 9.0.30729.1 and SQL Server version is 10.0.4000.0. Is it possible, that these not not updated versions could cause this problem?
    Package ProtectionLevel is DonSaveSensitive.

    Hi,
    That path is not in use?! Yes, it is in error, but not in package. Maybe it has been there before, but now I can't find it. Or actually, path is valid, but not the file name.
    I had on error in package configuration file path, but here is the latest error message:

  • Not able to execute a procedure from Process

    Hi
    I have created a Tabular Form type region.
    And I have created a Database procedure to insert records into some other table.
    Inorder to execute this procedure I was trying to create a PL/SQL Page process.
    When I am trying to enter the procedure details it is giving below error.
    1 error has occurred
    ORA-06550: line 3, column 1: PLS-00201: identifier 'XXSURCHARGE_PKG.INSERT_INTO_MAIN' must be declared ORA-06550: line 3, column 1: PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    But I am able to create a page process with same procedure in another application.
    Is there any restrictions on Tabular Form type regions.
    Regards
    Kiran Akkiraju

    Hi
    I am able to find out the problem. Application was created on a particular Schema and procedure was created another schema. So, there was a permission issue.

  • Executing Stored Procedure within Excel

    I am in the middle of setting up an Excel spreadsheet that will execute a stored procedure I have created and return the results to Excel. Pretty much following the example set here:
    http://datapigtechnologies.com/blog/index.php/running-a-sql-stored-procedure-from-excel-with-dynamic-parameters/
    But, the problem I am stuck on and unable to yet find an answer to, is can I execute the procedure from within Excel and instead of specifying a parameter enter a WHERE clause. At the moment the last step of my stored procedure is:
    SELECT * FROM MY_TABLE
    WHERE ([PRODUCT] LIKE 'DESK-%') AND (NOT([DISCOUNT VALUE] IS NULL))
    But, I cannot find if it is possible to execute this from within Excel. I am not sure if it I am able to set the WHERE as a parameter which may be the way I should be going about this.
    Thanks.

    Are you invoking a stored procedure, or are you sending a SELECT statement (ad-hoc query) to the SQL Server?  It seems like you are sending an ad-hoc query.
    If that is the case, I would not put the entire WHERE clause as a parameter. I would do it something like this:
    "SELECT * FROM MY_TABLE WHERE ([PRODUCT] LIKE '" & Range("B2").Value & "%') AND (NOT([DISCOUNT VALUE] IS NULL))"
    That assumes that the parameter that you want to use is in cell B2.
    Ideally, I would prefer not to use ad-hoc queries. Instead, create a stored procedure which takes the Product type as a parameter.  There are lots of examples on the net on how to query SQL Server from Excel via a stored procedure with parameters.

  • Problem in executing a SP in Java using Oracle OCI Driver...

    Hi,
    I have a installed the Oracle OCI driver on iPlanet Web Server 4.1. The application has been designed using the Jakarta Struts framework where the dom classes act as an interface between the database and the application(action classes). The dom classes execute stored procedures stored in an SP packages (eg. DDTS_PACK.setContact(..)). Now here's the problem. When a new record is being inserted, the dom executes the 'setContact' stored procedure using a java.sql.CallableStatement. The execution of this stored procedure is successful at times and fails at times. What could be the reason?? Could it be something to do with connection pooling. The default connection pooling class from oracle, oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionCacheImpl() is being used to get the connection. The funny thing is that the stored procedure gets executed both the time (success/failure) and returns a return status as 'N' when it fails and 'Y' when it is successful.
    I would be greatful to anybody who could give a solution to the above problem. Thanks and have a great day.
    Regards,
    Anand

    Since the pipe '|' is interpreted by the shell then you need the shell to invoke your command
            String[] command = {"sh","-c","find /tmp/reports1 -name " + "\"" + "*" + "\"" + " -mtime +" + strdaysback + " -print|xargs rm -r"};
            final Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
      You should also read http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html at least twice and implement the recommendation regarding stdout and stderr.
    P.S. Why are you not using Java to find and delete these files?
