I don't really understand why you are using almost 6 years old distribution (release date 2002/09/30).
What's the sense? Time has changed and of course SW included in this distro has changed (significantly) and especially glibc.
10g R1 is certified for RH EL 2.1. When I compare version of packages (RH 8 vs RHEL 2.1) it could be possible (easily) to install on RH 8. For 10g R2 you need defintely upgrade at least glibc* packages.

  • Problem installing j2sdk1.4.2 on Linux and Windows NT

    LINUX:
I use Linux (Suse 8.1) at home. I tried to install j2sdk1.4.2 rpm at "/usr/local/java" instead of "/usr/java", but with no success.
"--prefix" and "--badreloc" options did not work.
    "--relocate" did not work either.
So, now I had to install it at /usr/java which is the defalut location. How can install it at a different location?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Windows:
I have to use windows at work.
I had a problem (s) installing j2sdk 1.4.2 on Windows NT. I was trying to install it into "d:\programs\j2sdk1.4.2" instead of "c:\j2sdk1.4.2". Installer stopped with the following error.
    "Error 1303: blah blah"
So, I created the "j2sdk1.4.2" directory myself and started the installation again, but this time I got the following error, even though the directory is already created.
"Error 1317: An error occured while creating the directory d:\programs\j2sdk1.4.2"
Now, I have a couple of questions.
    1) Do I have to be an administrator to install Java?
    Until j2sdk1.4.1, it wasn't so.
    2) Do I have to shutdown the machine after installation?
If the answer to either one of the questions is YES, I would NOT install 1.4.2 until December 2003 or until my windows machine crashes, which might be earlier. :)
    I appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    bill

I am seeing the same symptom on Win2K. Trying to install
    to "D:\java\j2sdk1.4.2" I get fatal error 1317. I can't
    seem to find a workaround.

  • Problem installing language pack manually under Linux

I had downloaded Asian language pack to be install under Ubuntu Linux. When ran the installer script using sudo I been prompted to enter the path where Adobe Reader was installed.
The problem seems to accept path name that have the word "acroread" only as the default option was under /opt path. My installation was under /usr/lib32/Acrobat/Reader8/bin and the installer script does not recognize that.
    Help needed here. Thanks

    Hi,
If you used the standard installation for reader, the path should have been /usr/lib32/Adobe/Reader8/bin and not /usr/lib32/Acrobat/Reader8/bin. Could you confirm how you performed the installation?
The solution is to uninstall and re-install the reader using the standard location. We highly recommend that you install under /opt if it's a system-wide installation. Installing under /usr/lib32 seems strange given that the reader consists of more than just libraries.
If that's not possible, you can fix it by tweaking the INSTALL script that is part of the language pack installer. Change line 198:
    from:
    198 if [ ! -d "$dir/Adobe/Reader8/Reader" -o ! -d "$dir/Adobe/Reader8/Resource" ]
    to:
    198 if [ ! -d "$dir/Acrobat/Reader8/Reader" -o ! -d "$dir/Acrobat/Reader8/Resource" ]
and specify /usr/lib32 as the path of installation when prompted.
Let us know how you progress.

  • Problem Installing JWSDP 1.6 on OS X Tiger

    Hello again,
I downloaded the JWSDP (Java Web Services Developer Pack) 1.6 from Sun and ran the Unix shell script file...
The InstallShield Wizard launched and when the screen for "Select a Web Container" appeared, I copied and pasted this particular path:
    /Developer/JavaTools/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9
    and clicked "Next".
It automatically displayed an error message which stated:
"Error: /Developer/JavaTools/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9 is not a Tomcat 5.0 for Java WSDP installation directory."
Here is how I set up my environment:
    Raven:~ untz$ echo $CATALINA_HOME
    /Developer/JavaTools/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9
    Raven:~ untz$ echo $JAVA_HOME
    /System/Library/frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home
Has anyone been able to install the Java WSDP 1.6 on OS X Tiger?
    Many, many thanks!

    Try this!
    http://java.sun.com/webservices/containers/tomcat_for_JWSDP_1_5.html
I suggest you choose the "No web container" option when installing and run the Tomcat integration script later. You can troubleshoot this way and the JWSDP install won't mess up your original web application settings.
the windows script for instance ,is jwsdpontomcat.bat in the
    <JWSDP_INSTALL_DIR_>/jwsdp-shared/bin directory.

JWSDP out of the package is quite difficult to use. Unless you spend 3-4 days digging it, you will keep on getting those exceptions. I found this http://www.jence.com (Jence Incorporated, NineSTEP), where there is a nice example using JAXRPC web service. It works out of the package and all you need is Ant in the system. The also have the web service running at http://www.ninestep.com/services/hello/HelloWorld. I think you should give it a try. They also have a web service product called NineSYNC for Internet data sync, which is also a web service. http://www.ninesync.com

  • Problems installing j2sdk on mdk9.0

    Hello!
I have a serious problem installing java2 SDK on a linux
machine(mdk9.0). I unpacked the self extracting .bin file to
/usr/local, set up the JAVA_HOME environment variable and added the
$JAVA_HOME/bin (where the binaries are) to PATH, but javac and in fact
all other tools gave me 'Error initalizing the VM' error. When I ran
java_vm it appeared not to be able to find its shared
libraries(DLLs). Then I installed them with ldconfig and by setting the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/i386/. Now when I run java_vm it
reports "java_vm process: could not find Java VM symbols". So what's that now?
ps.: I am using j2sdk-1_4_0-linux-i386.bin. It did work on Slackware 8.1 when I installed it into /usr/java w/o even setting a single env variable. However, it got the same problems when I installed it into my home directory. At least I think they were the same.

    Hi
i'm dealing with the same problem at the moment. Found any solutions?

Here is a work-around for installing JWSDP 2.0:
    1) Make a copy of the JWSDP shell script (as a backup);
    2) Edit the JWSDP shell-script with a text-editor like vi, emacs, etc.
    3) Find the section that defines the cleanup() function:
    4) Comment out the line that removes the jarfile; when correctly done, it should look like this:
    Code:
    # Cleanup function
    cleanup() {
    rm -f "$listfile"
    rm -f "$outputfile"
    #rm -f "$jarfile"
    rm -f "$tmp_error_log"
    if [ -n "$1" ]; then
    exit "$1"
    else
    exit 0
    fi
    5) Save the file and execute the shell script; you will continue to get the same error, but ignore it;
    6) The execution will have now left behind a jwsdp-2_0-unix.sh.4032.jar file in the /tmp or /usr/tmp directory (the number - 4032 - will vary for you based on the PID your process used for execution); go to that directory;
    7) Extract all contents of the jar file with jar xvf jwsdp-2_0-unix.sh.4032.jar;
8.) Run the JWSDP class directly with java -cp . JWSDP
    9) You should see the installation window now; if it does not work in GUI mode, use "java -cp . JWSDP -console" to install in ASCII text-mode.
    10) Because of another bug in the text scripts, don't just press the Enter key for default answers when you see the prompt; type in the answer even if it is the same as the default and then press Enter - this will ensure the script sees the input and continues installation instead of silently exiting (which occurred to us many time on Gentoo).
Still i m not able to move ahead to complete the installation,
    Please help me.

Further investigation reveals that if I unpack the jar file in a directory (jar xvf xxxx.jar) and change the classpath to "." instead of the jarfile, the program launches perfectly. This is definintely a bug in the classpath handling of big jar files on certain systems, or something of that sort. (Note: I'm using java sdk 6u1, 32 bit CentOS Linux.)

I've encountered the same problem on RH FC6.
If you take a look at the script you will see this line tail +368 "$0" which attempts to extract the remaining lines into a separate jar file. This line may not work on all versions of Linux. A proper way to use Linux version of tail utility is: tail -n +368 "$0". Anyways, you can manually extract the jar file if you are getting tail +368 file not found error message when running the script.
After you extract the jar file you can run it via the command line like so
    java -classpath .:./tmp/jwsdp.jar -Djava.ext.dirs= -D.java.endorsed.dirs= -Dtemp.dir=/opt/java/jwsdp/tmp -Dis.debug=1 JWSDP
You should be able to install JWSDP 2.0 successfully on your Linux machine.

Then i tried to install the Web Service installation pack using the following Command.
    /bin/sh jwsdp-1_4-unix.sh -is:javahome /scratch/huda/Java/j2sdk1.4.2_05 -is:tempdir /scratch/huda/WebService/tempo -console
But it is giving me the following errors.
    Using /scratch/huda/WebService/tempo as temporary directory...

  • Problem with OCI call  and  how to install and use 'DEBUG_EXTPROC' on Linux

    Hi,
Can any one let me know how I can install and use this debug_extproc package. I have installed oracle XE server on Linux machine(32-bit).
When I use : DEBUG_EXTPROC.STARTUP_EXTPROC_AGENT' ... i get an error saying that : it is not declared.
I tried looking in all the directories but did not find the dbgextp.sql(which is required in order to install that package). And tried searching on google but could not get any relevant information.
Also I am newbie to OCI call interface and also to C programming too: I have coded a external procedure or custom user aggregate in C. But since I was using C++ : 'set' STL. I have compiled my program using g++ instead of gcc and I have correspondingly modified the make file in public/demo directory.
So, is it fine to do it that way: using OCI (instead of OCCI(C++)) but again compiling the pgm as a regular C++ using g++ instead of gcc.(But rest of the pgm including printf statements : everything is in C).
Also I have created the library from my : custagg.so library:
SQL> create or replace library custagg is '$ORACLE_HOME/lib/custagg.so'
But my aggregate function implemented as external C function using OCI is either not recognised or else : if recognized then there is some error because of which i am getting the following errors : ORA-06522
    SQL> select MinDistance(TT) from egg1;
    select MinDistance(TT) from egg1
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-06520: PL/SQL: Error loading external library
    ORA-06522: /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/lib/custagg.so:
    cannot dynamically load executable
Please kindly answers my queries and trying to resolve this for almost 4 days now and could not find any clue on how to get this done.
    Thanks,
    -NN

Can you please tell me whether PLSQL/Oracle is able to locate the file or not. Incase, if it is locating the file but due to some error in the custagg.so it is throwing that error. If this is the case, is there any way that i can debug the C program .....how can i install the debug_extproc package.. I am really new to C & OCI ... if the custagg.so is being located then there might be some problem with the way I am dynamically allocating memory to some variables.
Please kindly reply to this Post/response.
Please let me know if you also want to see my program code.
