Problem of sorting month name in pivot table

Hello,
I have a month name that is sorted by month number in my repository.
When I select Year + month name + measure sorted by year then by month name and I look the result in a table, everything works perfectly but when I switch to a pivot table the sorting doesn't work : the pivot table sorts my month name in an alphabetical order instead of using the month number .... Is it normal ?
To find a solution, I have added my month number and I have sorted by year then by month number and I have hidden my column month number. This have solved my problem for the pivot table but if I attached a chart to it (by selecting "Chart Pivoted Results"), the label of the bottom axis contains the month number and the month name and I haven't found where I can hide this month number. Why the hidden option only works on the pivot table and not on the pivot chart ? And how I can do that ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

No there is no Transient attribute involved , could you please tell me what might cause this error .
Basically this page is for inserting a record.
Thanks ,
Keerthi

As Onur suggests, if you are using BEx Queries, it is certainly possible at least in/through BEx Queries, see this answer in another thread: Re: How to create loop in Design Studio

  • Disabling auto sort of rows for Pivot Tables in BI Publisher

is there a way to avoid the Pivot table in BI Publisher from sorting your data and just display the rows in the order retured from the data model ? By default it is sorting the data in asc order. Thanks !

    hi jim
if you carefully look inside the form field's you will find the logic of sort . if you remove that you will get the data without any sorting order.

  • Sorting Month Name

    Hie Guys,
I have a dimension object - "Month" with values - 1, 2, 3, 4 as of now as the current month is April. I have created a variable for the "Month Name".
    The formula is given below.
If (Month = 1) Then "Jan"
Elseif (Month = 2) Then "Feb"
Elseif (Month = 3) Then "Mar"
Elseif (Month = 4) Then "Apr"
Elseif (Month = 5) Then "May"
    And so on ......
Now, my report has a cross-tab showing monthly employee hours. When using the "Month" object, I am able to sort it in ascending (1,2,3,4) or descending order (4,3,2,1). But, when I use the "Month Name" object, the months are not in order. I sorted the object with custom sort, but, since there is only data till the current month, I am only able to get - Jan, Feb, Mar & Apr in the report. In this case, when data is available for the next month, I will have to rearrange the sorting order again. Could anyone please tell me what I need to do in order for the "Month Name" column to automatically sort in order as new Month data becomes available (i.e. Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, June, July, Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec)? Thanks.

    Hi jeewan Pandey
    This trick will work
    Trick 1
    1) place the Month number in cross tab coulumn
2)Now Create condition rule in 4.x , alterter in 3.x
3)Click on formula and enter the formula you had wirtten or add the month name in that
    4) Now you will see the month names intead of month number on cross tab column
    Trick 2
    1) Place the month number on cross tab
    2) place the month name above the month number in cross tab column
3)Now right click on cross tab and hide the month number dimension
    Hope this will help you
Let me know still the solution is not resolved

  • How to Sort Dimension in Pivot Table via Order Column which is changing like Factual values

    Hi,
Recently in of our product offerings we got stuck on this following question:
How to Sort Dimension based on the Order Value which Keeps Changing with Factual Values??
We have a data source laid out as (example)
In the above the “Order” columns are changing per
    Company/(DimensionA) for DimesnsionB.
Instead what we want is: (But only if we can get the following result without putting the “Order” Column in the “Values” Section.
If there are any configurations that we can make to our power pivot model for the similar data set so that the
DimesnionB in this case can be sorted by the Order column, would be greatly helpful to us.

    Thanks
    Amol

    Hi Amol,
According to your description, you need to sort dimension members in Pivot Table via order column, and you don't want the order column show on the Pivot table, right?
Based on my research, we can sort the data on the Pivot table based on one of the columns in that table, and we cannot sort the data based on the columns that not existed on the Pivot table. So in your scenario, to achieve your requirement, you can
add the column to pivot table and hide it.

  • Custom sort pivot table columns with Essbase as the data source

Is it possible to sort columns in a pivot table according to an arbitrary value that I define when the data is coming from Essbase?
For example, say I have a dimension called Soda, with values Coke, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper. I create a report with a sales measure with the measure labels on the rows and the Soda dimension on the column. By default the columns will be sorted alphabetically:
Coke Diet Coke Diet Dr. Pepper Dr. Pepper
    Sales 1M .5M .75M 1.25M
I want to create a report that looks like this:
Coke Diet Coke Diet Dr. Pepper Dr. Pepper
    Sales
I think I could do this if the source was relational just by creating bins or creating a custom column with a case statement that assigns each Soda an arbitrary value and then sort on this value. Everything I've tried with Essbase as the source, though, results in:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 42043] An external aggregate is found in an outer query block. (HY000)
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    1. You can try solve the 'An external aggregate is found in an outer query block' by changing aggregation rule for your measure both in physical and business layer.
By default it's set to Aggr_External - change it to Sum
In physical : Column properties->Aggregation rule
In business model : Column properties->Aggregation tab -> Default aggregation rule.
This may change the result - after changing check whether you still get correct values.
    2. Also, in case the desired order is the same as the order of members in the Essbase cube, and you want to leave Aggr_External, you can create a calculated column that will help you with the sort.
    See http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/04/28/oracle-bi-ee-101332-handling-sort-order-in-hyperion-essbase-931-evaluate-and-mdx/
    Hope this helps,

  • How to disable Row label from the aggregation function in Pivot table

    Hello everyone,
I have table in Power Pivot like shown below:
    Item_Name

    Vendor
    Sales_Amount
    Item 1

    Vendor 1

    Item 2
    Category 1
    Vendor 2
    100
    Item 2
    Category 1
    Vendor 1
    20
By using above table i have to create Rank(Based on Sales amount) by Category and Item name in Pivot table, i have done easily like added two dimension attribute(Category, Item_Name) into row label and Sales_Amount into aggregation tab then I calculated
rank:=RANKX(ALL(Sales[Item_Name]),[Sum of Sales_Amount]) so finally pivot table looks like shown below:
But end user want to see the vendor name also in the pivot table but the Rank suppose to be based on Sales amount by Category and Item name. if i added the vendor name also into the row label, rank calculated based on on Sales amount by Category, Item
    name and vendor.
I would be really grateful if anyone advise how to fix this problem as it will be helpful my most of the reports.

  • Error Message: "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources" when creating pivot table with Excel 2013

    Hi,
One of our users encountered this problem with Excel 2013 while creating pivot tables, particularly with large files. We tried to modify Virtual Memory
of the pc but error still persist. Why does this happen and how can we resolve this? Thanks.
Another error message encountered by the user, this time when opening large files. The files she tried to open are working fine in 2010. But when opened in 2013, it prompted : "There
isn't enough memory to complete this action. Try using less data or closing other applications."

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, please provide us more information to assist you better.
Did your user using the Excel 2013 and Excel 2010 with same PC? If not, please let me know the both of the 2 PCs' hardware list/Windows operation system info.
Did you using Excel 2013 32bit version and Excel 2010 64bit version?
General speaking, this issue usually occurs with Office 2013 32 bit version. It has a limitation of 2Gb of memory that can be used by its process. And the 64-bit Excel can handle larger workbooks.
Thus, if your user using 32bit Excel, I recommend try 64bit Excel instead.
Here is a similar issue, we also could try it:

  • How change the graph dynamically based on pivot table.

    Hi,
My Report having pivot table and bar chart. • Pivot table: Building Calculations

    Hi,
i've following problem. Actually I have a pivot table with 4 columns (say A,B,C,D).
    Example
    Region| A | B | C | D
    Berlin |7 | 4 | 1 | 4
    Bonn |3 | 2 | 1 | 3
    Total |10| 6 |2 |7
Each column item has as rule of aggregation SUM.
Now my customer wants that column B isn't a sum of each row value, but that it's calculated as SUM(column B) / SUM(Column D)
    So my example must be:
    Region | A | B| C| D
    Berlin | 7 |4 | 1 |4
    Bonn | 3 |2 | 1 |3
    Total |10 | 6/7| 2| 7
    is it possible?
    Thanks
    Giancarlo

    Thanks,
but i believe there was a BI built-in functionality. Your idea is wonderful, but it isn't applicable in my scenario. For example Total row unlike other rows must have a blue blackground color and with conditional formatting i can format only column Region, but not columns A,B,C,D that are measures.
Then, column Region elements (Berlin and Bonn) are drillable. In this way, even Total element become drillable, and it isn't good...
    Thanks

  • How to show montha name starting from APR to MAR

    Hi,
How to show financial year in report .
    I.e
When i select month column in my report i need to get values starting from APR to till MAR. Can any one tell me how to show it.
    APR,
    MAY,
    JUN,
    JUL,
    AUG,
    SEP,
    OCT,
    NOV,
    DEC,
    JAN,
    FEB,
    MAR

    Hi,
    Steps to achieve,
    1. Go to analysis pull it out your month columns two times (let rename it month Id and month name)
2.) edit formula on month Id columns put it below contional statement
    E.x:
Case when month name = 'January' then '1'
When month name ='February' then '2'
When case month name='November' then '11' Else '12' end
3.) Go to month name columns in your analysis criteria and edit formula here u just make it first 3 char of your month name columns by using left( month name, 3)
4 ) sort month name columns by using month id columns then hide month id columns it will work as you expected
    Another solution:
First you need to add the function monthname in the column formula. This will give you month names.
    Ex-MONTHNAME("Cal Date")
To sort, add bin or write case statements in other column and sort it.
    Ex- case
    when MONTHNAME("Cal Date")='Jan' then 1
    when MONTHNAME("Cal Date")='Feb' then 2
    end
    Hope this help's

  • Sorting Column's Label in Pivot Table

    Hi Fellows !!
This is my problem: I have two tables, dates and rates, providing me data for a report. Dates has a DateId (number), Year(number) and Month(varchar2(12)), and Rates has DateId(number) and RateAmount(number). I wrote a quite simple query to obtain report's data:
    SELECT DATES.YEAR, DATES.MONTH, RATES.RATEAMOUNT
    FROM DATES, RATES
    WHERE DATES.DATEID = RATES.DATEID.
I must to show as a pivot each rate by month for each year. Years must be showed as row heading and sorted descending (this already works) and Months must be showed as column's labels. Something like this:
    ----------|January|February|......|December|
    2008 | 737.3 | 372.3 |......| 342.56 |
    2007 | 346.2 | 456.6 |......| 678.78 |
The problem is Months always appear in Lexicographical order: April, August, December, ..., September. How can I to define the correct sort for Month ? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Vetsrini, thank you for your answer.
I've included an additional DATES table's field in query, and it contains the number of month, according to your suggestion. Results for query show month's names in proper form, but when I set up the pivot table from template builder and get preview for results (pdf, html, etc), I still get month's names in Lexicographical order. All the examples and documentation tips (sorting tags and others) I've found seems to apply to normal tables, because none of that works in my pivot table. Any other ideas are welcome.

  • Problem in pivot table view

    Hello gurus,
I need a help in pivot table view. In pivot table, I have to show measure in accordance to month. For example show sales as per region by month name.
    Region               Sales
Jan     Feb     Mar     Apr …………..Dec     Avg     Total
    A          10     40     92     92          32     xxx     xxx
    B          73     83     39     78          87     xxx     xxx
So this is what I have to do. I am able to do this with one measure with created new calculated item. Now I have to create this report using two measures and the in the new measure I have to show only average and total.
    For example
    Region               Sales                              Target
Jan     Feb     ………Dec     Avg     Total Avg Total
    A          10     40          32     xxx     xxx          xxx          xxx
    B          73     83          87     xxx     xxx          xxx          xxx
Here sales and target are two different measures. The problem is when I add target column in measures; it will show all the month which I don’t require at all because I need all the month for sales only and for target I just need average and total. I try from head to toe but not getting any thing like this. Can i do this using other view if possible.
Help me guys. If you need more explanation then please let me know.
    Thanks

    Suhel

    Anybody replies please.....
Is this possible that we can use Calculated column in other calculation in pivot table. For example, total of one measure divided by total of another measure in pivot table.

  • Sorting on a total column or calculated column in a pivot table

We have a pivot table showing customer activity by month. We have added a calculated field to show the YTD average instead of a total column. Is there a way to sort on this calculated field? We have applied a sort on the measure in the criteria, and our resulting pivot table sorts by the values in the most recent month, not by the YTD average.

I think we cant sort when we use a pivot view becoz all the rows are already fixed. Say your rows are sales and volume and columns are year 2007 and 2008, imagine if you r given the sorting ability then if number of units solds is more then it need to change the rows (but in pivot table rows are fixed). So, we cant sort in pivot tables!!
