Problem on inserting text from file to a clob column

Hi! I'm having problem in inserting text read from a text file to a clob column in my table.
Here's my code
public void addSyllabusOutline(int syllid)
          CLOB objclob1 = null;
          CLOB objclob2 = null;
          String query = "SELECT outline, projoutline FROM Syllabus WHERE syllabusid = '"+ syllid +"' FOR UPDATE";
          try
               System.out.print("Getting syllabus outline and projoutline clob locator...");
               DBConnection dbconnbean = new DBConnection();
               dbconnbean.openConnection();
               ResultSet rst = dbconnbean.executeQuery(query);
               if(rst.next())
                    objclob1 = (oracle.sql.CLOB)rst.getClob("outline");
                    objclob2 = (oracle.sql.CLOB)rst.getClob("projoutline");
                    Writer clobwriter1 = ((oracle.sql.CLOB)objclob1).getCharacterOutputStream();
                    String filename1 = "c:\\o1u2t3l4i5n6e7.txt";
                    File outlinefile1 = new File(filename1);
                    FileReader outlineFileReader1 = new FileReader(outlinefile1);
                    char[] cbuffer1 = new char[10 * 1024];
                    int nread1 = 0;
                    while((nread1 = outlineFileReader1.read(cbuffer1)) != -1)
                         clobwriter1.write(cbuffer1, 0, nread1);
                    //clobwriter1.flush();
                    clobwriter1.close();
                    Writer clobwriter2 = ((oracle.sql.CLOB)objclob2).getCharacterOutputStream();
                    String filename2 = "c:\\p1r2o3j4o5u6t7l8i9n0e.txt";
                    File outlinefile2 = new File(filename2);
                    FileReader outlineFileReader2 = new FileReader(outlinefile2);
                    char[] cbuffer2 = new char[10 * 1024];
                    int nread2 = 0;
                    while((nread2 = outlineFileReader2.read(cbuffer2)) != -1)
                         clobwriter2.write(cbuffer2, 0, nread2);
                    //clobwriter2.flush();
                    clobwriter2.close();
               System.out.println("done");
               dbconnbean.closeConnection();
          catch(Exception e)
               System.out.println("Error: " + e);
My error is java.sql.SQLException fetch out of sequence. I don't have an Idea on what seems to be the problem. Please help.. Thank you very much. ^_^

Hi,
Print the whole stack trace. It will tell you the line which causes the error. How you use clob and blob in oracle is also version dependent. Try to google for
oracle "your version" java clob example.

  • ORA-01461 when trying to insert text 4000 characters into a CLOB column

    I work on a Windows application that connects to databases using ODBC. I'm currently working on adding Oracle support to the application, but I'm running into a lot of problems inserting strings of more than 4000 characters into CLOB columns. First, I tried to do that directly using code similar to the following (setup, cleanup, and error checking snipped for clarity).
    SQLHDBC hDbc;
    SQLHSTMT hStmt;
    unsigned char query[200];
    SQLAllocStmt(hDbc, &hStmt);
    strcpy(query,"INSERT INTO test_table (col_clob, col_int) ('long string', 1)");
    SQLExecDirect(hStmt,query,strlen(query));
    Of course, "long string" was really a string of more than 4000 characters. When I did that, I got an error indicating that I needed to use bind parameters for strings that long. However, bind parameters don't seem to work either. I changed my code to something like the following:
    SQLHDBC hDbc;
    SQLHSTMT hStmt;
    unsigned char query[200];
    +unsigned char *str=NULL;+
    int str_size;
    SQLAllocStmt(hDbc, &hStmt);
    strcpy(query,"INSERT INTO test_table (col_clob, col_int) (:strvar, 1)");
    SQLPrepare(hStmt,query,SQL_NTS);
    str = (unsigned char*)malloc(6000 * sizeof(unsigned char));
    SQLBindParameter(hStmt, 1, SQL_PARAM_INPUT, SQL_C_CHAR, SQL_VARBINARY, 0, 0, str, sizeof(str), &str_size);
    strcpy(str,'long_string');
    str_size = SQL_NTS;
    SQLExecute(hStmt);
    This code works fine when 'long_string' is less than 4000 characters. When it's greater than that, I get the following error:
    +[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column+
    I'm using Visual Studio.NET 2003 on Windows XP, and Oracle client 11.1.0.6.0. My server version is as follows:
    SQL> select * from v$version;
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Product
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    CORE    10.2.0.1.0      Production
    TNS for Linux: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    I thought I read somewhere that this is a known bug with Oracle 10.2.0.1.0, but I can't seem to find the reference now. Can anyone confirm this or provide some assistance with this problem? Frankly, it seems kind of ridiculous that I can't do something as simple as inserting a reasonably sized amount of text into a CLOB column. I'm considering using BFILEs instead, but that would be kind of a pain to fit into our application, so I'd prefer not to do this if at all possible.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    I found this link referring to a similar problem that was apparently fixed in version 10.2.0.4 of the server: ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column Should I try to upgrade the server and see if that fixes things?

  • Indesign CS3-JS - Problem in reading text from a text file

    Can anyone help me...
    I have an problem with reading text from an txt file. By "readln" methot I can read only the first line of the text, is there any method to read the consecutive lines from the text file.
    Currently I am using Indesign CS3 with Java Script (for PC).
    My Java Script is as follows........
    var myNewLinksFile = myFindFile("/Links/NewLinks.txt")
    var myNewLinks = File(myNewLinksFile);
    var a = myNewLinks.open("r", undefined, undefined);
    myLine = myNewLinks.readln();

    var myScriptFile = myGetScriptPath();
    var myScriptFile = File(myScriptFile);
    var myScriptFolder = myScriptFile.path;
    myFilePath = myScriptFolder + myFilePath;
    if(File(myFilePath).exists == false){
    //Display a dialog.
    myFilePath = File.openDialog("Choose the file containing your find/change list");
    return myFilePath;
    function myGetScriptPath(){
    try{
    myFile = app.activeScript;
    catch(myError){
    myFile = myError.fileName;
    return myFile;
    Thanks,
    Bharath Raja G

    Hi Bharath Raja G,
    If you want to use readln, you'll have to iterate. I don't see a for loop in your example, so you're not iterating. To see how it works, take a closer look at FindChangeByList.jsx--you'll see that that script iterates to read the text file line by line (until it reaches the end of the file).
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • Why doesn't "include/object/text from file" work?

    I want to include (link) text from other Word documents to a  main  Word document and I use "include/object/text from file" (Word function)
    It works fine when I do so in "H:", but doing exactly the same in the Sharepoint environement result in "nothing" (nothing happens)
    It DOES work if I link from a document saved in Sharepoint to a "H:" - document, but that is of no use since I need all the documents to be stored in Sharepoint.
    Guess it has to do with the set up och Sharepoint.
    Greatful for any tips!

    Hi,
    Did you mean insert a object in the documents?
    Did you open the file with the local application or office web application?
    In the office web application, it doesn’t have the function to insert a object in the browser.
    I had tested with some word files in the library, open the word files with the local application, then insert file using the insert object function.
    It worked without any issue.
    What’s more, I had tested with Office 2010 and Office 2013, they all worked.
    Did the issue occur in other libraries? You can create a new library to check whether it works.
    You can also download a copy for the issued file, then open it in the local machine to check whether it works in the local machine.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Inserting text from a variable in actionscript

    what is it called when you insert text from a variable in actionscript?

    Your question is not clear.  There is no specific name for the process of inserting text from a variable that I am aware of.
    If you have a dynamic textfield that you have assigned an instance name to, let's say you named it "tField", then to assign a variable called "aVar" to that textfield you would use:
    tField.text = aVar;

  • Inserting text from one JTextpane to another

    How do i insert text from one jTextpane to another with the attributes i used in the first. Please help.

    i'm using a defaultstyleddocument. Also.....if u know
    how i can transfer this data through a
    DataOutputStream to another computer.Hi again,
    DefaultstyledDocument uses a tree-structure with classes in it, that implements the Element-Interface to hold the styles. It is very easy to get the plain text, but what you need to transfer a part of text from one JTextPane with DefaultStyledDocument in it to another with the same document-style in it, is a sequence of (string, AttributSet) - pairs, so you are able to insert them in the destination document by the insertString(...)-method.
    It is easy to get the Element by postion from the document and retrieve the Attributset from it that it uses in that position. I guess, an approach would be, to do the following:
    get the Attributset at the start of the text = AttributSet of the pair
    scan the document until the set changes
    extract the string from start to the position right before the set changes = string of the pair
    store the (String,AttributSet)-pair in a Vector
    do this in the same way, but this time the "start" will be the position of the start of the new Attributset that causes the end of the scan above.
    When this is done for the hole text, that is to be transferred, you have a Vector with the String-AttributSet-pairs that you can use to insert them in the other JTextPane by calling the
    insertString(...)-method with this values.
    Tell me, what you are thinking about that - I don't know another method for this and had to create a solution on the fly for you, so that is perhaps not the best way to do it.

  • BULK INSERT from a text (.csv) file - read only specific columns.

    I am using Microsoft SQL 2005, I need to do a BULK INSERT from a .csv I just downloaded from paypal.  I can't edit some of the columns that are given in the report.  I am trying to load specific columns from the file.
    bulk insert Orders
    FROM 'C:\Users\*******\Desktop\DownloadURL123.csv'
       WITH
                  FIELDTERMINATOR = ',',
                    FIRSTROW = 2,
                    ROWTERMINATOR = '\n'
    So where would I state what column names (from row #1 on the .csv file) would be used into what specific column in the table.
    I saw this on one of the sites which seemed to guide me towards the answer, but I failed.. here you go, it might help you:
    FORMATFILE [ = 'format_file_path' ]
    Specifies the full path of a format file. A format file describes the data file that contains stored responses created using the bcp utility on the same table or view. The format file should be used in cases in which:
    The data file contains greater or fewer columns than the table or view.
    The columns are in a different order.
    The column delimiters vary.
    There are other changes in the data format. Format files are usually created by using the bcp utility and modified with a text editor as needed. For more information, see bcp Utility.

    Do you need more than 2 rows? I did not include all the columns from the actual csv file but most of it, I am planning on taking to the first table these specfic columns: date, to email address, transaction ID, item title, item ID, buyer ID, item URL.
    The other table, I don't have any values from here because I did not list them, but if you do this for me I could probably figure the other table out.

    Below the above messages/warnings the data is getting printed. Only the text part of the data is retrieved not the fonts, styles and bullets etc.
    Can anyone explain me why I am getting above warnings and how can I remove them. Is it possible to fetch the text depending on delimiters.

    The jar files which were used are downloaded from http://jarfinder.com. Those jars created the problem of displaying those messages on console. I downloaded APIs from apache.org and used them in my application. Now my application is running good.

    One approach is to download Htmlparser from sourceforge
    http://htmlparser.sourceforge.net/ and write the rules to match title, abstract etc.
    Another approach is to write your own parser that extract only title, abstract etc.
    1. tokenize the html file. --> convert html into tokens (tag and value)
    2. write a simple parser to extract certain information
    find out about the pattern of text you want to extract. For instance "<class "abstract">.
    then writing a rule for extracting abstract such as
    if (tag is abstract ) then extract abstract text
    apply the same concept for other tags
    Attached is the sample parser that was used to extract title and abstract from acm html files. Please modify to include keyword and other fields.
    good luck

  • Problems copy & paste text from PDF to InDesign CS5

    Hey guys
    Today, I tried copying and pasting text from a PDF I received from my client, into a InDesign CS5 doc, and the text came out was just random numbers and punctuations.
    I've tried exporting Word / RTF & TXT file from the PDF and yet they still come out random. I'm not sure if it's just how the PDF was made, or there is something wrong with my CS5.
    I'm on Snow Leopard, CS5 Premium, Acrobat Pro 9 & also Acrobat Reader X.
    Any ideas why?

    It's the PDF.
    Usually, you can copy text out of a PDF, but there is no guarantee *at all*. Older software used to take shortcuts to subset fonts: first character it encountered got coded as #1, the next as #2, etc. etc. If you do a search & replace of each of the nonsense characters, you'll slowly see the original text appearing (thst's not as simple as it sounds, though).
    A similar "problem" is that sometimes spaces don't get copied (there is no need for a "Space Character" in a PDF), and that you cannot copy contiguous lines of text as a single paragraph. All of it is because a PDF is not intended nor designed to be re-used after creation.
    If you really need this text and don't want to type it in, try to get hold of the original file.

  • Problems with displaying text from gtk+-2.0 with Cairo

    I've got a 64-bit app that uses gtk+-2.0 (2.8.17 with Cairo). I had to build my own libraries since the gtk+-2.0 libraries Solaris 10 ships with is 32-bit only (and does not contain Cairo support). The app is statically linked so that our customers don't have to do any more than just install the app.
    I've got a customer who's using a Sun Ray 2fs to run our app from a Sun Ray server. The problem is that none of the text in the UI is readable (including the menubar). He sent a screenshot and I can tell it's rendering the glyphs, just not correctly. The best way of describing the text rendering problem is to take a bitmap of antialised text drawn with a black pen color. Now remove all non solid black pixels. You only see pieces of the glyphs (typically, just the vertical and horizontal parts).
    We don't have a Sun Ray client to test with but for testing purposes, I installed our app on freshly built Solaris 10 (5/09) and Open Solaris systems with no modifications to the virgin systems. I could run our app on both Solaris systems and display the app on a remote X display just fine. I asked the customer to try a real X display and he ran X-Win32 on a Windows XP guest using VirtualBox on the Sun Ray server and our app appeared just fine on his Sun Ray client. I told him if our app displays just fine on a real X display, then the problem must be with the Sun Ray server.
    Has anyone encountered this problem? I'm going to try building the latest gtk+-2.0 libraries but I'm not convinced it's going to do any good. I don't think it's a Fontconfig configuration problem because our app worked out of the box on freshly installed systems (unless perhaps Sun has made changes to /etc/fonts/fonts.conf since the version on his system versus ours).
    PS. We actually need the Cairo graphics support. It just happens that the version of Pango that's in 2.8 (and all versions of gtk+-2.0 since) also uses it for text rendering in the widgets.

    You have to remember that both programs are totally different
    animals and simply
    some of the option used by you in AI won't be working or
    can't be translated into
    flash's environment. You will never get editable content,
    just an image.
    Export to SWF from AI and import that SWF to flash. Should be
    as close as possible
    to original file tho I can't assure your layers will
    maintain.
