Problem Quartz Composer & XCode
Hi all:
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and I installed XCode 3.2, but now I work Quatrz Composer gives many errors and bugs. Prior to Snow Leopard and previous version of XCode QTZ run fine.
All plugins of Kineme are updated.
Can I re-install the previous version of XCode? Or do Restore all of the latest Macintosh bakcup ID? Is it safe to do this?
I've seen that is already version 3.2.1.
thanks and best regards
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.2), Intel Core2 Duo, 2,16Gh
Xcode is at version 3.2.1 and all queries about it should be posted to the developers forums under OS X Technologies: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=162

Quartz Composer + Xcode - Audio Track to be played
Hi,
I have a quartz composition that plays a video. I am aware that from within quartz composer I am unable to hear the audio track.
I have successfully built a standalone Cocoa Application that plays the video but I am still unable to hear the audio track.
My question is how do i get the audio track to play? Is the stand alone Cocoa App the best way to go and if so how do I enable audio using this method.
Note: I need to use quartz composer to play the video as quartz is distorting the video onto a sphere.
Any helpers or pointers to the right direction to follow would be much appreciated.Hi Isty
I think you need to set on the asynchronous mode in the video player patch settings. this should start playing the sound when the loaded clip is running.
good luck -
This is the error message i receive on opening quartz composer (Xcode version 4):

Check with the developer to make sure Quartz composer works with this version of Mac OSX. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OSX. This report will be sent to apple automatically. On Clicking Show details I get the following:

Rendering (Ken Burn, Themes, etc) problem cause by QT Quartz Composer?
Does everyone get this some error in their system log?
looks like Ken Burn rendering is caused by the following error:

And preview for Themes error:

Rendering also create the same errors:

Quartz Composer QuickTime Component: Error in CompositionMediaHandlerSetHints() at line 1872: Runtime reset failedI don't know whether QT 7.5 is your problem. Apple has upgraded that program to 7.5.5, which apparently cured some of the problems with the earlier version.
Some contributors to this forum have downloaded earlier versions of QT from this website:

Quartz composer patches problem...
in Quartz Composer I can see all my basic patches, such as sprite, billboard and
so on... but when i try and drag them into my composition they do not appear there!
I think I am missing the right files that should be in Library\Application Support\Quartz Composer
is this the problem or am I doing something else wrong?
any other patches such as purchased kineme patches can be dragged with no problem
into my composition.
Any help with this will be rewarded with 10,000 karma points in this life and the next. This is a 10.8 system and you downloaded Quatrz Composer from the Apple Developer site and your version is 4.6?
So you see the patches in the Patch Library but when you drag them to the editor they don't stay? When you drag them into the editor does the pointer change to a green plus? Finally whee is Quartz Composer installed on your system?
On 10.8.2 with 4.6 and QC installled in /Applications/Developer/ it works ok for me. -
I tried to use my iTunes but the icon didn't show up and instead I get a folder. The folder is titled TunesApp and in it is another folder called Contents. Contents contains: _CodeSignature, Frameworks, Info.plist, MacOS, PkgInfo, Resources, and version.plist. In the folder MacOS is my iTunes and I can use it, but I get this message:

2013-02-24 13:13:20.988 The plugin 'Quartz Composer Visualizer' failed to load because it has the wrong CPU architecture for this version of iTunes. (3585)
Version from driver for Certificates 1
I can only use my iTunes as long as I keep the message open. When I close the message it tells me: "Closing this window will terminate the running processes: login, bash, iTunes." I have no idea what is going on with it as it was working not too long ago. I do not think I updated it recently but I could be wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you!Sounds like your computer is having additional issues. I suggest taking it to your nearest Apple Store.

Quartz Composer export problems
Hi all folks,
I try to save a quartz composition with "Export as Quicktime Movie" in the Quartz Composer,
but I get a error box with
"The document "introduction.qtz" could not saved to "introduction.mov"."
all the time (more than 1GB free disk space, for a 1 minute Movie with 640 to 480 pixel from the
"Introduction.qtz" sample).
I do all the things from Technical Note TN2145, but I can't export a quartz composition.
I try to do this with Mac OS X 10.4.11 PPC and Quartz Composer 2.1.1 and Quicktime 7.0.3 and 7.4.5.
Thanks for any Help,
LutzHi,
nice to see someone can convert a quartz composition to q QT movie,
but I can't. I got

all the time, I do all the thinks from Technical Note TN2145, but I can't.
What are you doing to export a quartz composition.

Quartz Composer isn't on my mac
I have Mac OS X 10.7.3, and I have installed numerous developer tools, including Xcode, Quartz Composer, Dashcode, and Instruments. I have used all of these before; several months ago, and they worked just fine. I recently wanted to use Quartz Composer, and I can't find it anywhere on my computer. The only place that has any reference to it is in the LaunchPad, which shows a question mark over the icon. Same for Dashcode and Instruments. How do I get these onto my Mac?

Any help?
ThanxSame problem for me.
This happens only on Mac from version 13.0.4 Photoshop.
It doesn't works with mx:Windows and s:Windows.
I tried with Extension builder version 1.5.0 and 2.0.0.4 but the problem persists.

Quartz Composer 4.6 Crash
I installed xcode 4.5.2 today in hopes of getting quartz composer 4.6 running on my macbook pro 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 duo with 4 GB of ram, unfortunatly the efforts were to no avail. I was previously running QC 3.1.2 before that and it is still running fine.
At first QC 4.6 would not open at all and I was geting the following error seen in the attached image. I followed previous posts that instructed to delete com.apple.QuartzComposer.editor.plist and Cahe.db. This allowed me to start accessing the application but not through selecting the template .qtz that are offered when starting a new file such as the second screen shot. I have to open a composition that I have created previously, this leads me to believe that it is not pointing towards the template .qtz at startup.
When I do open a previously made composition QC runs but will again crash when I try to access the patch library. also if I switch the preferences to start with the patch library open the QC will not make it to the the editor screen.
I was trying to get a crash report but the app seems to not be filing crash reports right now for some reason. I'll try to get it to generate one but maybe this is enough to turn on the lights for someone. Thanks Frank for your help. I am using Lion 10.7.5
In doing this I realized Kineme 3-d needed updated. My test user got an error that Kineme 3-d was crashing QC. After I updated that went away and I started having the same problems as in my primary user account.
When QC 4.6 starts and I click on the blank, screensaver or any other start template I get the info in the attached screenshot. If I open a past composition QC fails when trying and open the patch library see the beggining of an error report below.

I am fairly new to Quartz Composer, that being said I have built several animations that I want to add to Keynote presentations, but everytime I try to add them into Keynote they only last :30 sec. I have tried exporting as a .mov file and each time I do I am prompted to give the file an end time, I have tried several different times, and yet Keynote still gives it a :30 sec runtime. I have looked at the exported file in Quicktime and it also says the file is only :30 sec. I have been searching forums for some time now with no luck, but I have found that I am not the only one with this problem.
How can I get the QC file to last longer than :30 sec? Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated as this is really starting to wear on me. Thanks.Welcome to the discussions, agentdavo.
I don't think it is. I tried the same thing (to try to get around QuickTime's 3 second limitation) and Keynote isn't allowing access to the video hardware. -
How can I use multiple cameras in Quartz Composer?
Good morning, all. This is a quartz composer question, but I can't see a quartz-composer specific forum to ask it...
As part of a school project at ACAD we are building a rig to record the output from three video cameras to build a panoramic video. I have played with Quartz Composer to do the melding of videos recorded with this setup into a single image, and it worked very well.
However, to do so live is the intention for this project as well, so we can build the composite video for recording (the timing of three different cameras is a bit awkward) as well as line up the cameras without having to do so separately.
In Quartz Composer, however, the video-in plugin only reads the camera model number, not the unique GUID as seen in the System Profiler, so three identical cameras will not be read properly... you can only choose the model number, not the specific id of the camera.
Is this a bug in Quartz Composer? Is there some top-secret plugin that is hiding somewhere that will allow you to choose the individual camera id's as seen in the system profiler? (Cameras tested have been firewire handycams streamed live, and usb cameras. identical model numbers can't be chosen as individual cameras properly)
Thanks muchly, and please shuffle this question to the proper forum as necessary.I am working on a project where I need the same functionality. But even though I'm using different webcams, and can clearly select them in the menu, still only one camera works at a time. Even if I run two separate patches, with two different camera inputs, only one of them works.
If you find any solution to this problem, I would really appreciate if you could share it. -
How do I install Quartz Composer on my imac 7-27"??
I am trying to get into Quartz Composer and I am very confsed since imac 7-27' doesn't come with a cd-instal anymore. I tried to do online, installing xcode 4 from the apple site, but at some point it says that i never used itunes store and ask me for my billing details...it's confusing since Quartz Composer is a free aplication. Any ideas on how to dwonload this. On SnowLeopard you can do it through your instal cd, But how to do it in Lion????
Much appreciated!!You need to provide billing information to DL from the App Store, whether or not you buy anything. That's the only way to get anything, including free stuff, from the App Store.

Screensaver crashing when made with Quartz Composer using Asynchronous Mode?
Hi all, I made a screensaver using video in Quartz Composer but the playback was choppy. I went into settings and used Asynchronous Mode, which sorted this out. It was running fine at first. Runs well in viewer and runs when I select test screensaver. I powered the mac up this morning and any of the screensavers using Asynchronous Mode they start for a second and then the screensaver stops suddenly. Again they work fine whilst test screensaver button is used and in the QC viewer but suddenly not when I use hot corners or when the Screensaver activates???
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank youI downloaded his pre-built version and fiddled with it a bit, putting in a .mov file. The saver crashed System Prefs. Discovered that the quartz composition would only open in QT7, not QTX. I tried a quartz composition that did not have a movie in it, and that worked as a screen saver. I tried the movie saver, replaced the movie with one that did open in QTX, which would work in the Finder and QuickLook, although it ran only in QT7 (as do all my old qtz compostions), but it still crashed System Prefs. Unfortunately I haven't installed Developer Tools for Snow Leopard, so don't know if you could get it to work using the latest iteration of Quartz Composer and rebuilding the composition there--don't even know if there is a new Quartz Composer.
I suspect there is a problem between 32bit and 64bit things, although exactly what that might be I don't know, since the straight qtz compositions, without a movie, seem to work in screen saver mode.
Using the QT7 only movie produced a slightly different crash report than using the QTX compatible movie. I have seen other reports of non-Apple screen savers that will not run in Snow Leopard, with the statement that the savers must be re-compiled to work in 64bit. My quess is that really simple quartz compositions use the quartz engine available in Snow Leopard, and thus even though built with a 32bit Quartz Composer do run as 64bit, by calling only Snow Leopard functions, and thus will work, but that the movie saver has something inherently 32bit in it and so causes a conflict.
