  • Problem setting up wireless networking

I have an imac and a macbook and have just purchased a Netgear wireless router WGR614.
It was easy to get both machines connected to the internet. However, I would like two-way filesharing and am having more of a problem. I created a computer-to computer network and the macbook shows up fine in the imac's network window, and I can mount it on the desktop. But it won't work the other way: I can't mount the imac on the macbook's desktop, it just doesn't show up in the macbook's network window, nothing appears in that window. Entering the imac's IP address manually in the connect-to-server box on the macbook doesn't work either.
I'd also like to print from the macbook to the printer attached to the imac, but the lack of connection in that direction prevents this.
I have tried creating a computer-to computer network on the macbook, and trying things form that way round, but the result is the same. I have ticked all the right boxes in the sharing panel, of course.
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Please elaborate on "computer-to-computer" network. A computer-to-computer network in wireless lingo means you created a secondary wireless network that is being broadcast from the computer it is created on. It's done by going under the AirPort menu and selecting "create network." If this is what you've done, it would explain the problem you are having. This network is independent from the one you have setup on the Netgear device and is not what you want. Make sure both computers you want to share files/printers between are on the Netgear wireless network and then go to the "Sharing" system preference and enable "Personal File Sharing" and "Printer Sharing." That should pretty much do it. Hope this helps.

  • Problems Setting Up a Network.

Hello all. I just bought the new Aiport Extreme and have it running just fine using a very basic setup. I'm trying to setup a more complex network and don't see anything in the .PDF about the network I'd like to configure.
Before the Airport Extreme, I had my cable modem plugged into an 8-port router (I have several devices hooked up to it...2 computers, 2 printers, an external ethernet hard drive). What I'd LIKE to do is share all these devices with my Airport Extreme network.
I assume that all I have to do is connect an ethernet cable from the Airport Extreme to the "internet" port on my router? Well, after doing this, one of my printers didn't print anymore. Also, the network storage device that is plugged into my router doesn't show up anymore on my Mac's network. Bascially, the devices on my router aren't showing up or responding. I didn't see any network diagrams in the .PDF that addressess routers so am stumped. I'm an amateur at this, so would appreciate any advice. I'm apprehensive about changing any settings, because I otherwise have things running well.
    Thanks;
    Henry

I assume, from your comments, that you wish to continue to use the 8-port router in your network configuration ... along with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) to provide wireless.
The easiest way would be to connect the AEBSn, via Ethernet, to the router, and then, reconfigure it as a bridge to allow the router to continue to provide NAT/DHCP services for your entire network.
To set up the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as a bridge, temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (found in /Applications/Utilities), make these settings:
    Network tab
    o Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    o Apply the new settings.

  • Problem setting up hp network printers on OS X 10.5.4

    Hardware setup:
MBP to Airport to Linksys switch. HP Laserjet and Designjet to Linksys switch.
    Problem:
OS X does not automatically recognize printers.
Manual input of IP addresses results in seemingly set up printer, but unable to complete print jobs. HP says that appropriate drivers are included in OS X 10.5.4. Apple phone support says they don't support this configuration. (Took them an hour to come to this conclusion)
    Solution:
In System Preferences / Print & Fax / Add Printer / IP / Choose "HP Jetdirect - Socket" for the protocol, then type in IP address, name, etc.
Solved by my local Apple Authorized Service Provider.

    Hello H:
Welcome to Apple discussions. Please mark your post as solved so that people will not read it to try and offer advice.
    Thank you.

  • Setting up Solaris for Internet Acodemcess via Cable M

I am using Solaris 2.7 and wanted to know how to configure it to use my cable modem for Internet access. Where do I assign the gateway address in Solaris of the gateway/router I'm using?? I connect my cable modem to a router that's talking DHCP out to my LAN. I need to know how to configure Solaris for this type of configuration. I have looked everywhere and have not found how to configure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    so I'm thinking NAS.
The experts in the iPhoto and Aperture forums strongly advise against trying to locate the image library on a NAS.
If you are planning to use iPhoto or Aperture, you really should post in the support forum for the application that you are using. The links are just below.

If you plan to use another application, check with the support folks for the program.

  • Problems Setting up my wireless network with an Xb...

Hi, I have had some problems setting up my wireless networking.
I have everything switched on and am able to go online with the laptop and the Xbox with no problems but when I try to share media with the xbox I have problems.
I have opened the ports specified in the setup from xbox on windows firewall and have no problem connection Via Ethernet cable but when using wireless the xbox cannot detect the laptop.
I have checked the network map and both xbox and laptop are connected and have enabled sharing and am running sharing software.
    Below is the network map.
I have also been having problems with BT software, the free virus protection will not install, The desktop help will not launch although it shows up on task manager and the installation disk does not launch correctly it doesn't get past the loading screen.
I have had a printer on the wireless network and had no problems printing.
If anyone knows how to resolve this please help.

I have this same Motorola modem and I just verified that my 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can get Internet access with this modem without any issues.
When changing ISPs (or networking equipment) it's always a good idea to start from "scratch" in configuring your equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

  • Setting up a Wireless Internet Connection on Solaris 10

I am new to the whole Solaris/unix world and I was just wondering how to set up a wireless internet connection with a solaris 10 machine. I have a linksys router hooked up to a cable modem and a linksys receiver hooked up via USB on the solaris machine. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Was the router supplied by the ISP or was it bought separately? Are you able to get online when connecting the Mac directly to the router via an ethernet cable? Either way it's best to check the router settings to ensure they are correct.
I’ve not come across the Zoom routers. Setup should be straight forward though, having gone to their website and downloaded the manual. Do the following:
    1. Plug one end of the RJ-11 cable (included in the box) to the router, the other end to your phone line via the micro-filter.
    2. Plug one end of the ethernet cable (again included in the box) to the appropriate port in the router, the other end to your Mac.
    3. Plug in the power cord and switch on
    4. Fire up your web browser on your Mac (Safari, Camino, Firefox etc)
    5. In the address bar of the web browser type 10.0.0.2 and hit the Return button
    6. A Network Password box will appear. This is to gain access to the router itself. The defaults are, Username = admin, Password = zoomadsl
    7. You’ll now enter the Basic Setup screen. It’s here where you enter the username and password supplied by your ISP. This is NOT your email username/password but your Internet access ones. If you are not sure or don't have them, call your ISP.
    8. Click Save Changes and then click Write Settings to Flash and Reboot. Once the router has reset itself and the Link light comes on and remains steady, you’re online.
    That’s it. Job done
If you still cannot get access it may be worth resetting the router (there should be a small button in the back which requires the use of a pen or pencil to press) re-entering your ISP information as described above and trying again.
Let me know how you get on.

  • Problem setting up network on iBook in OS X 10.4.11

A friend has an old iBook G4 running OS 10.4.11. After not having used the machine in a while, she needs to use it for a bit before getting a new one. There is a problem, though: in System Preferences, opening Network to set up a current internet connection, a window immediately pops up that says "Your network settings have been changed by another application" followed by an "OK" button. Hitting the button makes the window disappear for only a second or two before it pops up again, in a perpetual loop. Can't get out of it, and can't set up the network. This had not happened in the past. What might be causing this, and what to do about it?
The machine has recently been checked with Disk Utility, TechTool, and DiskWarrior. No problems.

Thanks. What has happened is that we were able to get an internet connection in spite of this issue by rebooting the cable modem and plugging it in directly. However, the problem is still there in the background: if we try opening Network in System Preferences, the same window pops up saying "Your network settings have been changed by another application" and we are trapped in the same loop. I don't understand where this weird behavior came from. It's a problem in that should she want to take the laptop somewhere to use wifi, for instance, it will be hard/impossible to change things in the Network settings.

  • Trying to set-up the network adapter in Solaris 11 under Hyper-V fails

I was using Virtual Box to run Solaris 11 for testing purposes, however VB was disappointing as my VM hanged too often so now I am evaluating Hyper-V under Windows 8 Pro. If I can get the network to work I will use Hyper-V even if it lacks seamless mouse
and keyboard integration. So, I installed Solaris 11 in Hyper-V but I cannot get the network to work. What I have done:
    - I have created a Virtual Switch of type External with Virtual Switch Manager
    - I have created a Legacy Network Adapter for my virtual solaris machine
    - in Windows 8 I have created a Bridge for my WiFI NIC and the Virtual Switch
I can access the internet from my host machine (windows 8)but I cannot do it from the guest (solaris)
If I type "ipadm" in my solaris's terminal I can see that the NIC is listed but it has no IP address. So how can I assign an IP address to the Legacy Network Adapter?
    Thanks

    Hi Brian,
Thanks for the reply. I have managed to get networking working by creating a legacy card attached to a virtual switch, but I have not used the bridging anymore, instead I simply shared in the host OS the wifi connection to the virtual switch. This way it works.
Now I have another problem with the Solaris guest OS not seeing the SCSI controller, but I'll open a new thread for this after some more testing.
    Thank You
    Codrut

  • Problems setting up Time Machine using a network drive

I am having problems setting up TimeMachine on my Mac Mini to work with a WD MyBookLive network drive.  The network drive came with a TimeMachineBackup shared folder preconfigured.  When I first connected the drive to the router and turned on TimeMachine, the TimeMachineBackups appeared as an option when I did "Select Backup Disk" from TimeMachine Preferences.
I managed to successfully connect to the drive and start a backup running.  However the backup hit a problem and I started getting an error that the "disk was already in use".  I therefore tried to remove the disk to try and start again.  Hoever when I now do go into "Select Backup Disk" from TimeMachine Preferences the shared folder on the drive no longer apperas and I only get the option to serach for an Time Capsule.
If I go into Finder, the MyBookLive shows up as a connected Device with all its shared folders showing (including the TimeMachineBackup folder)  and my Mac is definitely connected to the drive.  How do I get the Drive & TimeCapsuleBackup shared folder to reappear in TimeMachine Preferences so that I can select it as the destination for my backups?

Check around the forum, you are one of very very many. It doesn't matter what WD say, do you see a Certified by Apple notice on it?
Go here, most authoritative site about Time Machine you can find. http://pondini.org/OSX/Home.html

i have problem with Cellular data network it is not apearing in iphone setting so help me how to bring this option in iphone

What brand/model USB drive? Is it bus or AC powered?
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

  • I reset my iPhone 4 Network settings to fix the push notification problem, but I lost my internet connection. How do I fix it?

I tried to solve the "connect to iTunes to receive push notifications"-problem by resetting my network settings, but it only caused me to lose my internet connection when using 3G. Now I can't do anything with this stupid phone. How do I fix it? I don't want to reset anything anymore, I'm sick of this new iOs update, it seriously messed up my phone and I can't do anything properly anymore. Any help?
And btw, I would also like to get the push notifications back on. Connecting to iTunes did absolutely nothing. Resetting the network settings only made my situation worse. Help please!

    Hi there Julia,
Ahh The iPhone isn't "stupid" it's been called "stupid" because you are frustrated at the situation , but try
Load iTunes. Backup your phone. Make sure it is backed up !! Run restore. This will get rid of the error! And please what ever you do , do not skip the back up!
    Thanks,

  • Setting up a network withou Internet.

    Hello.
I have just moved into new flat and we don't have Internet yet should take around3 weeks to sort out. In the meantime I was wondering if it was possible to set up a network without Internet. This is so I can stream movies on my comp to my appletv or ps3.
I have tried doing this only once but my comp couldn't find my timecapsule which had a flashing yellow light. I also tried finding it using the windows version of airport utility to no avail
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tom

    Welcome to the discussions!
Power down the Time Capsule and your Mac and temporarily connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN<-> ports on the Time Capsule directly to your computer.
Power up the TC and your computer and open AirPort Utility to see if that helps find the TC so that you can configure it.
Setup a wireless network on the TC (it may already be setup if you used it previously) and click Update to save settings.
AirPort Utility will tell you that you don't have an internet connection so you will need to click the "ignore error" box if you don't want to see a constant flashing amber light.
