Problem with color after converting RGB to CMYK

In RGB, I'm using #0000FF blue with some transparancy over a textured background.  The result is a bright, textured blue.  But when I convert to CMYK, the resulting blue is very dull.  It improves somewhat if I changed the transparency to 0%, but then I lose the texture and it's still not as bright.  Any help would be appreciated.
Here's some pictures to help understand:
RGB
CMYK

robr2 - there is generally speaking no way to print a blue color that is so saturated. When you convert to CMYK, Photoshop splits your bright saturated colours into only 4 inks. In the case of bright blue, what makes it a bright blue is mainly the fact that there is no yellow in it. The most saturated blue achievable in CMYK printing is right there, previewing loosely in front of your eyes.
CMYK on screen attempts to display what the printed version of the image will look like. It looks washed out? yes, thats because someone a long time ago made a decision that Photoshop would display CMYK colors with that gamut. And believe it or not, your judgment is surprisingly relative. None of that makes any sense? - welcome to the world of Color Management.

  • Problem with colors after upgrading to Lion

After upgrading to Lion, I could no longer distinguish between very light greys (e.g., #f8f8f8) and white (#ffffff) on my laptop monitor. The difference is readily apparent on many websites.
If I plug my laptop into an external monitor, the problem goes away, and stays away even AFTER unplugging it.
Neither recalibrating the color profile nor rebooting have any effect.
    Any ideas?

iPhoto is not part of Lion. It comes with a Mac. So, the version you own is the one that came with your Mac. If you want the newest version, you'll have to purchase it from the App Store.

  • Re.problems with translator after converting pdf file.please help:-)

    Please can someone help me.
i've converted a pdf file to a word document but it was a scanned document so word had to translate it but its come out as a load of gibberish.
i have over a hundred pages of corrections to make because of it so i was wondering if any of you could either tell me what i could of done wrong r tell me how to do it right:-)
    thanks a bunch!!!

You cannot use Reader to do what you want. Depending on the language of your original document, you might be able to convert the document from a scan to text with Acrobat Professional.  You can also investigate programs that are dedicated to OCR.

    Hi,
I am having similar problems. I have read somewhere that png format can not handle CMYK colorspace anyway, which I find odd (and plainly stupid IM(NS)HO) which would mean that converting to RGB and therefore using profiles is mandatory.
May be you should check if the internal format of the png files claims it is RGB or CMYK (using ImageMagick's "identify" command for example).

  • Converting RGB to CMYK color

    Hi All,
I have few BASIC Questions on converting RGB to CMYK  in Photoshop and Illustrator. Hope could get some professional insights here.
1, Are all the DTG printers set only in CMYK color mode ?
2, If there is no difference after viewing RGB image with 'Gamaut Warning' (Photoshop),  Does that mean I'll have the exact print result as monitor view ?
and Basically no need for CMYK conversion  ?
3, Please list some the most effective way to convert RGB to CMYK, and keep the final CMYK color result as close as the RGB.
4, when I simply convert one RGB image to CMYK color, why Ps/AI don't allow me to save as PNG file ?
( I save the file as PDF, but I cannot edit this PDF using apple preview app  )
5, compare Photoshop to Illustrator, which one result better final CMYK color image ?

Thanks for the detailed reply. Sure clear some of the doubts.
I just start to draw/design in Photoshop and illustrator, I save my files most as PNG, for a transparent background.
After I went to officework do the poster printing, I found the color of my print image are not as vivid as Mac preview.
To be precise, the poster I printed looks like has a very thin grey layer, it is not much noticeable, but it indeed lost some vivid color.  As I want to print out my works and keep color as close exact as Mac preview,  here is the issue of coverting RGB CMYK.
Please feel free to add for below:
1, Should I set color space in CMYK before drawing in PS/AI
2,  in PS, I convert profile from PNG file to CMYK save as psd file,  that psd file preview exactly same as PNG.
But when saved as PDF, the file preview a bit grey.  Can someone explain this?
3, Now im thinking, since CMYK is all about printers, it really should be the profession in printing shop who shall check my image, and edit/convert to the right color space to fit their printers.

  • Problem when converting RGB to CMYK in illustrator CC

Today I realized I had my document in RBG mode rather than CMYK. I am drawing die lines over a CMYK TIFF file placed in the document. When I try to convert my illustrator document color mode from RGB to CMYK everything in the document goes white - including the CMYK TIFF file that I have placed in it.
I can highlight the paths and see them only when they are highlighted but Illustrator will not allow me to select a new color for them.
In older versions of Illustrator I have had it would seamlessly convert to CMYK without changing everything to white.
I tried creating a new document with CMYK color mode and pasting the items in and it still goes all white.
In illustrator CS3 it converts just fine from RGB to CMYK with no image loss and no color loss on my dieline paths. but because my version of CS3 is acting crazy it won't allow me to save files from it
    any help appreciated!!
    thank you so much

    hi monika!
no they are just plain old paths in black. and the TIFF file is just a regular TIFF file that is being placed on the bottom layer.
    thanks for any help!!

  • Color converting RGB to CMYK mode???

Is it possible to convert RGB to CMYK color mode in Elements 10?

No, not really. If you google around, Richard Lynch had a sort of workaround for this for very early versions of PSE that could possibly be adapted for current use, but a proper CMYK conversion is much more complex, even with the proper tools, than going from sRGB to Adobe RGB, for example.
If you have a mac you can do a mode conversion in Preview, but you may not like what you get from the print shop using that method.

  • Strange problem with color measure in Mac.

Hello, I am having a strange problem with color measure in Mac. For example i create a gradient in Photoshop from color 200 200 200 to color 240 240 240. When i measure the color of the gradient with the color measure tool of Photoshop or with the built in OS X color measure tool the measured color is from 200 199 197 to 240 240 238. I have measured the same gradient with Photoshop for PC and the values are OK (the same values that i create).
I dont know what is the problem, but i belive that the colors that i create would be the same that i measure after creating them, and also the same values between Mac and PC. I will appreciate it a lot any help or information that you could give me that helps me to understand what is happening here.
    Thank you for your time
    Marcelo.

Yep you got it, proof as monitor basicaly strips out any profiling and just delivers it straight.
is there any way to make the OS X color measure tool to measure the original color values
You mean the document colors - No, like I said photoshop is filtering your image through document profile, proof setup and monitor profile. Why do you want to use Digital color meter anyway for this?
i dont understand what is the point to measure color values that will change every time a calibrate my monitor.
Because color values are 'bigger' than whats on your monitor. Your monitor (via photoshop) is only doing the best it can to display those values - which can be anything from LAB colors outside the gamut of your monitor - to CMYK colors. Calibrating it is the only way to allow your monitor to do this in any way accurately. (not ever really possible) Monitors have a certain gamut and are only dispays/representations of the REAL colors that a document, with a profile, holds. So there's only one good reason to measure monitor values, and that's to generate a monitor profile.

  • Java update causes problems with color printing in Mac 10.5

Had a big problem with color printing for the last two weeks. Thought the printer was broken because it would freeze and refuse to be "seen", or would generate error messages. Bought new Samsung 315, and had the SAME problem. Bought new HP CP1518ni, and had the SAME problem. Not resolved after talking to tech support at both places.
Looked for software updates around the time of the onset of printing problems. on May 15 installed "Java for Mac OS X 10.5 update" (1.0) (am running on 10.5.8). Removed the Java preferences files (com.apple.java......plist) and restarted.
Problem solved! Clearly not the printer.

Hmmm. This is about the time my printer stopped printing too. I've now had two printers in my house and had trouble with both of them. What a pain we should not have to delete updates for our stuff to work together.

I am facing problem with Java after having run Software upgrades.

    Hi man,
In the wake of this java problem I resorted to keep working on my old machine, and today in my spare time I tried to fix this new machine.
So I execute $java on prompt, and then try to check the files it has opened, using lsof -p pid
    I see it referring to
    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/bin/java
    isn't this usually the JAVA_HOME
    However, executing $/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/bin/java
    hangs!!
    but
    $/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home/bin/java
    works!!
    $ pwd
    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Home/bin
    $ ./java -version
    java version "1.6.0_07"

Linking my Current and CurrentJDK to 1.6 and it works!
However, shall that be the reason!
    what is in your /Versions/Current/
    I got the following
    $ ls /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/Current
    CodeResources Frameworks JavaVM
    Commands Headers Resources
There is no /Home in here, which is usually the case for /1.5 or /1.6
Anyways, things seems to work for the moment. Lets see if I get problem with using Java.
    thanks

  • Problems with Mail after upgrading to 10.9.1

I am running into problems with Mail after installing 10.9.1. I had NO problems with Mail prior to this update.
Problems I have encountered so far are:
    - I don't receive some e-mails on my Gmail account.
    - I have sent e-mails that supposedly got "sent" but do not show up in my Sent box both on mail and on web Gmail. My Outbox is empty also.
Has anyone encountered the same problems and found a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

Yes Paul I have, but no solution. I cannot send email. My ISP uses a smtp mail server for sending and It will not log in. Have had ISP on phone and checked all settings. Can only put it down to Mavericks.
It worked OK for a week after upgrading then stopped. So now having to use web mail to send email.
Strange thing is I receive mail OK, just cant send.

  • HT1589 problems with itunes after updating..can't locate some of my songs..some have an exclamation point beside them how do i get these songs back in my itunes

I'm having problems with itunes after updating. I've lost all my playlists,,finally played around with it and got the songs back but some have an exclamation point beside them and can't be located. they are songs i've purchased. I'm not very computer literate so this is a major problem. I have spent hours with this. I just want all my songs to play even though I'm not happy that I have to recreate my playlists. It would be so much easier if I knew and understood how to correct this. Has anyone else had this problem and if so..is there an easy way to correct it?

Not sure how this is an ipod touch question.
Perhaps you should post in the itunes forum.

    Hi
I have a problem with color prints from photoshop elements 12. The pictures are too light and with strange colors. I have a Canon pixma mg615I0 printer and use mac os X yosemite. The pictures are taken with a coanon eos 550d in the color space sRGB. I have followed adobes recommendations and have tried both letting the printer respektive photoshop manage the colors. But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

    Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
    Calibrate the monitor
