Problem with F1,F2,etc keys in kde 4.2

I just installed KDE 4.2. One thing that is really annoying me is that the F1,F2,...,F12 keys do not seems to works. For example, ctrl+F1 does not bring to the console. Any suggestions?

Update:
Here is the answer from KDE developers, currently,  Kmix do not fully work with oss4, and they will work it:
Well, no luck at this time fro OSS4.
Original code remounts from old OSS, and current kmix handles "per mixer
driver" entries, so we have alsa post 0.9, sun os mixer, old oss at last.
We way behind to add support for things like pulse, windows ( don't have sure
if it's possible), and OSS4, so we have a work to do.
There's a proposal in summer of code to revamp some of this handling code and
touch pulse issues, and other irc genius ideas from solid guys, but not too
much beyond that.
Here is the link for the original reply from them:

    Then the next step would be a restore as new to rule out corruption in the backup.

  • Problems with browsers and 'w' key since updates

    Hi
    I ran 'pacman -Syu' a little over a week ago, and since then I've been experiencing two rather odd problems.
    1.
    Using any web-browser (firefox, epiphany, songbird, etc), visiting pages that make use of javascript (i -think- that's the cause) makes the browser stop responding for 10-20 seconds. It goes grey and everything. And then eventually it starts working again. This occurs on many websites such as Facebook, Woot.com, to name a few big ones. It's really starting to drive me nuts.
    2.
    This problem's much weirder. After starting my computer, the w key is very unresponsive. By that I mean for a 'w' keystroke to register I need to hold down the 'w' key for 1 or 2 seconds, after which it will finally work. At first I thought this was a problem with my keyboard, but as the computer remains on, the problem slowly disappears - after about 30 minutes, the 'w' key works as expected. I don't think this is an X/GNOME problem, as I experience the same problems in the TTYs.
    I have a Sony Vaio FE-890:
    oliver@helios:~$ uname -a
    Linux helios 2.6.28-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Feb 13 11:03:55 CET 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7600 @ 2.33GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
    I've been updating frequently in the interim hoping the problems will go away, but so far no luck. Any thoughts?

    Hi
    Thanks for your suggestions.
    Also, flash doesn't work on webpages anymore. I'm assuming this is some problem with the nspluginwrapper thing...

  • ISight problem with photobooth, skype, etc

    Hi everyone,
    I've been having a problem with iSight recently. Whenever I try to use it for Skype or PhotoBooth, the green light turns on but all I see is a black screen. It sounds to me as though you have introduced conflicts with your third-party software (Chrome, Gmail video, etc.)
    Check every one of their web sites to be sure you have the latest versions that are compatible with your Mac OS X (10.6.7). Also, check that there are no "known issues" for your third-party items.
    Also verify that you are using the most current compatible Flash Player:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
    If you are still having problems after you have verified all of the above, consider all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
    If your problem remains in every user account you test after following the relevant Apple Troubleshooting suggestions, you might want to backup your Mac and then carefully follow the developers' instructions to uninstall +(do not merely drag to trash unless specifically directed to do so)+ your third party browsers and video apps to see if the problem goes away.

  • URGENT!  Problems with On-Commit and Key-Commit triggers!!

    Hi there,
    We are having a problem with our form actually saving a value to the database after the commit_form is given.
    When we hit the Save Button (which triggers the Key-Commit, and that in turn triggers the On-Commit trigger) we want a populated global variable to save to the database. Now when we hit Save, we can see the field get populated properly with this Global Variable (Global.Last_Tckt_Read), BUT it doesn't save to the database.
    Here is the code from the On-Commit trigger:
    IF :cg$bf_meter.closing_ticket_issued = 'N'
    THEN
    :CG$bf_meter.opening_meter_reading := :GLOBAL.LAST_TCKT_READ;
    :CG$bf_meter.opening_meter_reading_date := :GLOBAL.LAST_TCKT_DATE;
    :CG$bf_meter.closing_meter_reading_date := :CG$bf_meter.last_ticket_date;
    :GLOBAL.PREV_METER_READING := :CG$BF_METER.LAST_TICKET_READING;
    :GLOBAL.WINDOW_ACTIVE_CHECK := 'true';
    :GLOBAL.FTDAYCHM_SAVED := 'true';
    commit_form;
    ELSE
    :GLOBAL.PREV_METER_READING := :CG$BF_METER.LAST_TICKET_READING;
    :GLOBAL.WINDOW_ACTIVE_CHECK := 'true';
    :GLOBAL.FTDAYCHM_SAVED := 'true';
    commit_form;
    END IF;
    The code in the Key-Commit trigger is just commit_form;. Now, the code from the On-Commit seems to work fine if its in the Key-Commit trigger -- BUT we need to use the On-Commit in case the user exits the Form with the Exit Button on the toolbar or "X" on the title bar (Neither the Exit Button and the "X" will call the Key-Commit trigger).
    Any ideas how we can get this data value to actually SAVE in the database??
    Thanks for any help -- please respond, this deadline has already passed!
    Mike

    Well, I can't say I understand what you want, but:
    1) if you have only commit_form in key-commit - then you do not need this trigger. key-commit will fire when F10 (commit) is pressed, but since it is doing the same - there is no need.
    2) why don't you populate your block values to be saved right in SAVE button trigger and issue commit_form in the same trigger?
    Then you can have key-commit to cover the same functionality for F10 with code:
    go_item('save');
    execute_trigger('when-button-pressed');
    3) I cannot get the point of the "close" stuff - on close you want to check for changes or not? and to allow the user to exit with or without saving?

  • Problems with DVD, IPhoto,etc.

    I cant play DVDs and I cannot install software for my digital camera which is on a CD. Is this a problem with the CD drive? I have only had this IMAC for a few months. These things shouldnt be happening. And is there more qualified people that I can talk to. I appreciate the help anyone can offer but if I am going to pay $1700 for this computer then it needs to work for more than a summer! Help!

    Hey croth75.
    It very well could be a hardware problem but let's try a little maintenance first.
    Open Disk Utility and do a Repair Permissions.
    This has worked for me before it similar situations but it is not a cure all.
    After you Repair Permissions you might try a restart.
    If you are still having problems, try inserting the install disk and restart while holding down the 'C' key. I know this may not be possible for you as you are having disk related problems, but maybe.
    After you start up from the install disk, locate Disk Utility from one of the top menu tabs and do a Repair Disk.
    After it is done, restart and see what you get.
    I hope some of this helps.

  • Problems with MIDI, Sound, Etc.

    Hi all,
    Well, I have grown up on Macs and my dad has brought home everything from the Plus to the IIci to the Classic Colour when I was a kid 20 years go. Circumstances have forced me to move to PC, and I even had one in my home studio, but I recently had the chance to upgrade and was absolutely thrilled at the prospect of getting back into the Mac world after more than 10 years of absence. So, I got myself a Mac Mini 2.53 GHz (I only upgraded the hard drive to a 500 GB 7200-RPM model, as is common in the audio world), with a Focusrite Saffire 24 Pro DSP Firewire audio interface.
    Well, I am saddened to say that so far, I have been BITTERLY disappointed. Problems :
    1. This Mac is NOISY!!! I don't mean physical computer/fan/etc. noise. I mean static noise going through the interface. The interface is dead-silent during bootup until, at some point in the sequence (when looking at the Apple logo during bootup), the same static hiss and hum comes back that's been plaguing me for a few days. This noise seems to be matching my activities - it changes when I scroll, when I open a program, etc., for example. So, this is DEFINITELY sub-par;
    2. Snow Leopard simply refuses to acknowledge my Roland XV-5050's existence on USB. Ableton Live can find it in its list of "destinations" for MIDI data, but Audio Midi Setup simply refuses to even see it, precluding me from using Roland's very handy Editor. Again, unacceptable, given that I've never had this problem with PCs (although, Roland expressly does not support Vista with the XV-5050 USB drivers);
    3. There's something weird about the Mac (could also be Live, I suppose, but I never had this problem on PC) where my music applications do not see the Korg Legacy Cell VSTs that are installed, even though they are in the same folder as, say, Sylenth, which Live DOES see. (And they all end in .vst extensions.) What gives?
    I think that's it so far. I've got a very important gig coming up around Christmas time that I have to start getting ready for. I had anticipated virtually zero problems with the Mac, which is why I chose to upgrade, but the reality is definitely otherwise. Please, PLEASE don't make me buy the Dell Studio or something!!
    Thanks in advance for all the help!
    JS

    Korg Legacy and the XV are not critical to my workflow, just items I had invested on I would like to keep. I did not research compatibility with Snow Leopard vwery thoroughly for those two, but I certainly did with the interface, which IS critical. Focusrite has released brand-new drivers that are supposed to be compatible with Snow Leopard, as they loudly trumpet on their web site.
    And by and large, they do work - there's just that incessant noise. And THAT's an issue, and somehow I doubt it has to do with the interface as, like I mentioned, the noise only appears during the bootup sequence when, I assume, the Firewire drivers are loaded.
    Inputs?

  • Problem with firefox and gtk applications in KDE!

    Hi there, i have my arch installed and it's great, i use kdemod that is quite perfect but i have a problem: all the gtk applications like firefox, eclipse, emesene and so on are terrible looking expecially the fonts. Here what I've done:
    1) installed kdemod-gtk-qt-engine and configured to use qt theme and it's better
    2) enabled fonts with antialiasing and hinting
    3) installed fonts for lcd like cairo-lcd
    4) installed microsoft fonts
    But stille it's ugly and it's impossible to use the apps, here's a screenshot:
    The point is that i can't use konqueror because i need some plugins like googlebrowsersync that doesn't exist for konqueror. And in other distros like n00buntu it works.
    Thanks for your help!

    pelle.k wrote:
    I can relate to what borzo is saying, because i have exactly the same problem.
    See, i have installed libxft-lcd and enabled antialiasing and sub-pixel hinting in kde font properties. All kde fonts look great. Now, i usually the exactly the same in gnome "Appearance" font settings (when i use gnome).
    The thing is when you have KDE installed you can't set antialiasing and sub-pixel hinting for *GTK* apps, even if you can set a theme and font size with gtk-chtheme/.gtkrc
    This has nothing to do with how firefox renders fonts, really, but how GTK fonts a drawn in KDE since gnome-settings-manager isn't running, and thus GTK apps get crappy fonts (including firefox html rendering).
    So, how can i enable antialiasing and sub-pixel rendering specifically for GTK apps in KDE without running gnome-settings-manager?
    I know this is an old thread, but I'm still having exactly the same problem. I've been fiddling with fonts for a whole week now. Fonts in KDE apps look great, but crappy in GTK-apps like Thunderbird and Firefox. Like Pelle asked: how can I set aintialiasing and sub-pixel redndering for GTK apps? When running Gnome the fonts in GTK-apps look so much better. I wanna use my shiny new KDE 4 desktop, though.

  • Problem with flexitems:  dot in key field results in JBO-25005

    I am using flexitems in my application.
    I am using version 10.1.3.2.51
    My application has a single group with flexitemregion. The underlying VO has one Key attribute of type String (underlying PK column is a varchar2 field). When I create a record with a '.' (a dot like in a.b ) in the field I get an error when the page is redisplayed:
    JBO-25005: Objectnaam FlexItemsForAlgemeenFlexRegionAlgemeena.bnullnull voor type Viewrijset is ongeldig.
    Apparently, the name of ViewRowSet is invalid, because of the dot.
    Is there a solution for this ? Can we change the way the name of the rowset is derived? Note: we cannot remove the dots from the PK field in all records!
    Thank you for the help.
    Lia

    Lia,
    We will fix this for the 10.1.3.3 release.
    The problem is in method getFlexItems:
    public RowIteratorListAdapter getFlexItems(String group,
    String flexRegion,
    String keyValue1,
    String keyValue2,
    String keyValue3)
    ViewObject vo = getFlexItemDefsOuterJoinedWithFlexItems();
    String naam =
    "FlexItemsFor" + group + flexRegion + keyValue1 + keyValue2 +
    keyValue3;
    RowSet rs = vo.findRowSet(naam);
    if (rs == null)
    rs = vo.createRowSet(naam);
    The naam variable should substitute dots with something like underscores to create a valid RowSet name. You can override this method in a subclass and do this, but then you will run into another issue, see this thread:
    JhsModelService extension does not work ?

  • Problems with Keychain, login etc etc .... help please :-/

    Hi guys,
    My G5 iMac started playing up a couple of days ago.
    First of all in Mail it kept asking me for my password for my email account, it wouldn't accept it and kept asking me to set up a 'default Keychain' which I did but still the 'password' window appeared every time I opened Mail ??
    I ran Disk Aid and other than a couple of files out of order everything seemed fine.
    I looked on the Help menu for Keychain advice and ran Keychain Aid, upon completion it said there were problems ? didn't say what or how to fix them ?
    No passwords I entered into Keychain would work at all.
    Then yesterday when I turned my computer on it asked for my password ? it's never done this before ..... I entered it and when the computer restarted it was all different ?? There were files on the desktop from 2-3 years ago ?? and when I went into my Pictures, Documents, Music etc there were no files there from the last three years ?? real odd i thought. Opened safari and all my Bookmarks were from 2-3 years ago too ??
    Looked on here for hints and tips, did a 'safe' reboot ? installed my original OS X disc but ended up reinstalling OS X.
    Then every time I switched on or restarted, it would come up as my computer and ask me to enter my name and password, neither of which it would recognise ??
    Again off the installation disc I ran 'Disk Aid' with no problems then started to change passwords etc after logging in as a System Administrator in a new account :-/
    Going into Users via my new account I can see two old one's both bearing my name although slightly different. One I can see is from when I originally got this computer, the other is obviously my most recent ? as all my iTunes files, documents etc are there. All that is missing now is my Pictures as all that is in that file is iPhoto. Somehow all my saved pics etc ended up in a Pictures folder within my Home (folder/file ?) within my last account. Obviously as I can't log into that account anymore I can't access my Home menu under it :-/
    Any suggestions guys ? does it make any sense ? sorry to babble.

    If i go into Macintosh HD then down to Users I can see my two old Home folders. If i go into the most recent, like I said earlier there is only iPhoto in the Pictures folder, this is due to an error I needed to correct before all my hassle with Keychain and Passwords started. If I could log in to that Home folder I'd be able to access my pics but my Mac isn't recognising any passwords for it ??
    When you open the Finder window and you can see Desktop - Home - Documents - Music - Pictures and Movie folders there used to be nothing but iPhoto in the Pictures folder, however if i clicked on my Home folder in the Finder menu my pictures could be found within the Pictures folder in there.
    Although i can see my other Home folders under Users in the Macintosh HD, when I go into System Preferences - Accounts - the only one present is this new 'system administrator' one I set up yesterday ??

  • Problems with sound - stuttering etc.

    Hey
    I'm creating a small game using Java ME.
    I have Player objects to play InputStreams from .wav-files and have also called each Players' (2 of them) prefetch() method to make sure they are ready to be used.
    However, even though I only a Player's start() method once (I put a System.out.println() after to be sure), the sound either stutters or is played more than once, depending on which audio file is played. Some .wav files won't load at all and causes the emulator to freeze.
    All I found when searching was that
    The Java Sound engine can render 8 or 16 bit audio data, in mono or stereo, with sample rates from 8KHz to 48KHzbut the sound files are both 16 bit / 44-48KHz. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

  • Anyone else had problems with SAP Marketplace issued key codes?

    Hi!  I know this forum can't really help me resolve my key code problem but I was wondering if anyone else has had trouble with their key codes issued by SAP Marketplace since Business Objects switched over to SAP's system?
    I purchased 10 concurrent licenses, when I requested my key code through SAP Marketplace the product description said 10 concurrent  but when I recevied my code and entered it Crystal Reports Server XI, it told me I only have 1 concurrent license.
    I feel like I'm caught in a loop in their support system.  I've tried the Business Objects support email and after several emails back and forth, they told me I had go through SAP support.  I tried the phone number they gave me and it didn't work.  Since then I submitted a support incident through SAP Service Channel, I thought someone was helping me because they requested more information but I haven't heard back from them in a couple of days.
    Has anyone else had problems, if so, how did you resolve them?
    Thanks
    Cyndi

    Hi Cindy,
    I had exactly the same problem.
    Currently I have BO XI Edge 2 SP3 installed.
    After a test upgrade to BO XI Edge 3.0, I applied teh newly issued licence key(5 cals.
    Unfortunately only 1 was registered.
    It was impossible to logon to the system.
    I have lodged a case with BOSAPASIA. Below is theyr reply!!!!
    Thank you for your email.
    In order to have your licencing issue resolved, we would like to direct you to the SAP Service Marketplace to log a customer message.  Our Licencing department are the correct contacts and will be able to assist you with any licencing issues you are experiencing.
    I have not lodged a message yet.
    Let me know wheter you got a solution.

    The creation of localtime in the chrooted arch32 installation is mentioned in the wiki article http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _in_Arch64:
    Configure the new system
    First, copy important configuration files:
    ln -f /etc/localtime .
    Personally I did copies instead of hard links.

    You should not run the firefox 64-bit simultaneously with the chrooted arch32 firefox 32-bit.
    Personally I uninstalled the firefox 64-bit along with the flashlugin 64-bit, to only use the 32-bit ones.
    It works without problem for me.
