Problem with special character in Unix file

Hi All,
Need a help here. We have unicoded our system recently.
It's regarding a special character (umlaut) that comes through a 3rd party system to an Unix file. This gets displayed in AL11 file as # instead of ö.
As our program picks the file from Unix, it also has the # but we want ö.
We could have done some fixes in our code to fix if AL11 file at least had ö and we got # in our program.
But it's the other way round. So, how can we get rid of this issue? Please suggest.
Regards,
Sanj.

How Al11 is reading file ? Look for
OPEN DATASET "yourfilename" IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT FOR INPUT
                              IGNORING CONVERSION ERRORS.
If the above code is there .. you might need to play with different 'OPEN DATASET " options .
Also look for Note 1174468 - Non-7bit-ASCII characters used in ABAP Workbench
                   Note 1227961 - Names of text fields with non-7-bit ASCII characters
Good Luck !

  • How to deal with special character in source file

    Hi experts,
                      i am doing a file to file scenario in which my source file contains many special characters when i am puting this file into moni its going with the special character .My source file is a fixed length file so in content conversion i have specified the file length but due to these special charcters these field lenght is also varing.So please guide me how to deal with these special characters in sender adapter
    regards,

    you could try using a Java Mapping to change the encoding manually. For that, set the encoding of the OutputFormat of the XML you'll serialize. Try the following code piece for the mapping (inside a try/catch declaration):
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder documentBuilder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document input = documentBuilder.parse(in);
    OutputFormat format = new OutputFormat(XML, "ISO-8859-1", false);
    XMLSerializer serializer = new XMLSerializer(out, format);

  • Problem with special Character & in Proxy

    Hi,
    We have a File --> XI --> R/3 Scenario. In this scenario, from XI we are passing the data to R/3 by calling the Proxy. When the data in the file has special character like & (for example <Companyname>Dave&Busters</Companyname>), it is failing in R/3. But if I replace "&" with "&amp;" in the file it works fine. Is there any solution to this problem without writting custom code in XI to replace & with &amp;.
    Thanks

    No. If the sender of the message provides an XML format with an unescaped &, then the XML is not valid and therefore cannot be processed.
    All adapters (IDOC, RFC, File with content conversion) perform the escaping and deescaping.

  • Problem with special character like u00E5,u00E4 u00F6 in Sender JMS Adapter

    Hi,
    Problem:
    Sender JMS Adapter has transformation error when the file includes western european characters such as å,ä ö. And because of this reason the data is not picked up by adapter.
    The scenrio is JMS --- > XI ---> Proxy.
    If the file does not include the western European characters then it is working fine, but when the file include the western european characters such as å, ä, ö so got the error.
    Our Efforts:
    We have tried ISO8859-1 in JMS Module Tab as shown below.
    1. Transfer.ContentType text/xml;charset=ISO-8859-1
        AND with this also
    2. Transfer.ContentType application/coctet-stream;charset=ISO-8859-1
    None of them working.

    > I think you have to figure out first, which codepage you really have, not just try. Maybe you ask someone or you check with a hex editor.
    Hi Stefan,
    Finally we solved the problem.
    As you said above to figure the the codepage, we asked to our MQ team for the same and found that they are using ISO-8859-1. In XI we were also trying with multiple conbinations (ISO-8859-1, UTF-8 and many more), but didn't get any success.
    Finally MQ team changed their encoding to UTF-8 and in XI we used ISO-8859-1 and we get the success in picking the data with spl char. Even though in XI the spl char comes in destorted order but at the receiver end they are in proper shape.
    Thanks a lot for your help.

  • CS2/MAC/Applescript: XML Export problem with Special Character (thin space).

    Hi,
    I just have noticed that the base XML export of Indesign doesnt encode/keep the unicode value of Thin Space in the exported XML. Strangely, a non-breaking space is encoded ( ) and a few other higher range unicode values (well not encoded, it's in the text data just like any other character).
    The thin space is converted to a char 63 (?). I have tried utf8 and utf16.
    Is this behavior documented somewhere? There is no option in the export window.
    Does it mean that the only complete and reliable way to export text data is to have another script to export the tagged page item text content? (i definitively can do this, but it's remove alot of the simplicity of using the base XML export) [and make any simple xml/text roundtrip unfunctionnal]
    Anyone having experience with XML workflow can confirm if i have just met a known limitation of Indesign??
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • URGENT Problem with Greek Character from an Oracle database

    Hello, I am having a serious and urgent problem with the character settings of an oracle database (8.1.7). The database is sitting in a solaris unix server and when we run the env command we have the following in the NLS_LANG parameter: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 (I do not know if this is helpful). When I retrieve data from oracle database (through a VB.NET 2005 program)to a dataset I use a special font in order to see the greek characters (HELLASARIAL). But when I am trying to save these data to a TXT file the greek characters are like Chinese to us. I tried several encodings (System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding(869)) but without success. Can someone tell me how to convert the oracle greek characters during the selection or during the saving to the TXT file?
    Please respond as fast as you can.
    Thanks in advance

    Here is the answer of the microsoft:
    I have the information that you have a VB.Net 2005 application connected to an Oracle database 8.1.7.4 hosted on a UNIX server.
    This database has the CharacterSet WE8ISO8859P1.
    When retrieving Greek characters from this database in the application, you cannot see them.
    Could you please send me a screenshot of these characters in the .Net application?
    Are they displayed as gibberish, or as inverted questions marks (?)?
    I already had similar cases with Hebrew characters hosted on an Oracle database.
    These characters were displayed as questions marks on the client side.
    This is due to the fact that System.Data.OracleClient is using the Server CharacterSet to display the characters.
    If your Greek characters are not stored in the WE8ISO8859P1 characterset, then they won’t display correctly on the client-side.
    This is different from OLEDB where you could interact on client side by modifying the NLS_LANG parameter in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0.
    The client NLS_LANG and the server CharacterSet had to match in order to correctly display the data, and avoid SQL*NET conversion.
    So there are two solutions to your case:
    - The first one is to create a new database using the P8 characterset. The Oracle .Net managed provider will so be able to use it and display the characters correctly.
    - The second one is to use the OLEDB.Net managed provider, and then use OLEDB for Oracle provider. OLEDB will take care of the client NLS_LANG registry parameter.
    Would it be possible to test your application against an Oracle database with WE8ISO8859P8 characterset?
    Would it be possible to test it with the OLEDB .Net managed provider, and after checking the NLS_LANG client registry parameter?

  • Error: Invalid dimension member with special character / in BPC NW 7.5 SP7

    Hi experts,
    We are encountering the following problem in our Financial Planning application.
    We are migrating our existing BPC solution from one server to another through backup and restore. The existing solution was on BPC NW 7.5 SP 5. The profit_centre dimension in the existing solutions has several member ids with special character '/' (forward slash). The dimension never threw an error when processed in the existing solution and there is planning transactional data against these member ids.
    While the entire configration , appset , files were successfully restored through UJBR on the new system (BPC 7.5 SP7) through UJBR (backup and restore), the masterdata could not be restored only for this Profit_centre (masterdata for other dimensions were processed successfullu). All the member ids with / are rejected for this dimension. The same error is thrown if processed through the admin client from the member sheet.
    Error: Dimension member PC_FF/WS/NT is an invalid member ID
              Error in Admin module
    Is there any setting which need to be made to allow / character in member ids? Any suggestion to get around this problem would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Abhiman

    Hi Abhiman,
    Yes, you need to maintain the transformation file to correct all dimension member IDs. Can you please refer to the following link with a similar issue:

    Hello,
    the SAPhttp.exe is in the Folder:

  • Read Document in FileUtilities  cannot search a file with french character in the file name

    Hi,
    I am trying to search a file with french character in the file name like 'captures écran.doc' in my unix server directory, and Write the file somewhere, say in a list of documents or, write on file system to another directory.
    I am using to Read Document in FileUtilities of Foundation, but it cannot read the file due to french character in its name. Although it can find any other file name without these french characters.
    Tried renaming but that also cannot find the file with french character name.
    Please provide any idea to solve it using LC operation.
    Regards,
    Rohan Raj.

    Hi Thomas,
    Thanks for the post, but I have already found a solution to it a month ago. Sorry for not posting the solution.
    You just have to set the '-Djava.property.file.encoding=ISO8859-1' into JVM argument of your server startup, and bounce the server back to pick the new JVM arg set. And now the service Read Document in FileUtilities of Foundation will read all french characters.
    ISO8859-1refers to "Latin alphabet no. 1," consisting of 191 characters from the Latin script. This character-encoding scheme is used throughout The Americas,Western Europe, Oceania, and much of Africa. It is also commonly used in most standard romanizations of East-Asian languages.
    regards,
    Rohan Raj.

  • Problems with special characters like "u00F6" "u00E4" "u00FC"

    Hi,
    we currently face some major problems with special characters like "ö" "ä" "ü". First I thought it is a SP02 specific problem but it still doesn't work with SP03.
    When I start an import the import manager shows correct converted value. "ö"s "ä"s "ü"s are displayed correctly. But after I've done the import I look into the Data manager and I see instead of these characters charcaters like "&#776;". (note: the character should show a little square box - but the forum cannot desplay it)
    How can I solve this problem?
    Regards
    Nico

    Hi Nico
      Just try it out the following steps, hope it solves ur issue.
    <b>To set one or more values back to their original values:</b>
    1. In the Import Manager Source Values grid, select the values that you want to set back to their original values.
    2. Right-click on one of the values and choose Set to Original Value from the context menu, or choose Values > Apply Value Conversion Filter > Set to Original Value from the main menu.
    3. MDME sets each value back to its original value, which appears in black in the Source Values grid.
    <b>NOTE : You can use the Set to Original Value filter only at the value-level and not at the field level.</b>
    thanks

  • Problems with special characters in InputStream or XPath

    Hello everyone,
    I am having problems with special characters such as ", ', - and so on, everything becomes ? (questionmark). (Not with special nordic characthers (å,æ,ø) though.)
    The encoding of the XML is UTF-8, and the server that holds the webservice is setting encoding to UTF-8 also, so no conflict there.
    What I have done is something like this:
    {code}
    String url = "http://www.formula1.com/rss/news/latest.rss"; // This is not the feed I use, it is a custom XML document
    InputSource is = new InputSource(url);
    DocumentBuilderFactory fct = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = fct.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document doc = builder.parse(is);
    Element rootElement = doc.getDocumentElement();
    XPathFactory factory = XPathFactory.newInstance();
    XPath xPath = factory.newXPath();
    out.print(xPath.evaluate("/rss/channel/title", rootElement)); // The xml is not a RSS feed, this is just an example.
    {code}
    Please let me know what I am doing wrong, or give me a hint of how to solve this in another way.

    Hello, thanks for you reply. I had to rewrite your code a little, and I think that your code would not really compile, if you tried yourself :-)
    I ended up with something like this:
    our environment is running in 1.4 mode, so I could not use the for-each loop :-(
    public String printEntities(String s) {
         char[] sArray = s.toCharArray();
         StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
           for (int i = 0; i < sArray.length; i++) {
             if (sArray[i] > 256)
                  sb.append("&#x" + Integer.toHexString(sArray) + ";");
         } else
              sb.append(sArray[i]);
         return sb.toString();
