Problems Converting word documents with the Adobe Printer and method ,printout (OutputFileName:=) in

I would like to write a vb-procedure to convert a word document into pdf.
I'm developing in "Visual Basic 2005 express edition" and tried the following code:
code[
Private Sub PrintDocument(sDocName As String,sNewDocName As String)
'sDocname = "c:\tmp\test.doc"
'sNewDocName = "c:\test\test.pdf)
Dim m_wdApp As Word.Application = New Word.Application
Dim m_wdDatei As Word.Document
m_wdDatei = m_wdApp.Documents.Open(FileName:=sDocName)
m_wdDatei.PrintOut(Background:=False,OutputFileName:=sNewDocName, _ ActivePrinterMacGX:="Adobe PDF")
m_wdDatei.Close(False)
m_wdDatei = Nothing
m_wdApp.Quit()
m_wdApp = Nothing
End Sub
]End of code
After running the printout line I can see a little window popping up, which shows the progress in the converting and after a little time I can find the expected file in the targetdirectory.
The problem is that I can't open this file, I just get the message that the file is corrupt or not of the pdf-format.
By scanning the web, I found several threads describing the same problem, but so far I found no solution. Maybe someone here can help me.

You were right.
I've changed the default printer to "adobe printer" and created a new file. I thought the problem solved, but instead, the error is the same. The new file starts like this:

  • Problem converting Word document with TOC table

    Hello,
             I am using MsWord 2003 and Acrobat 9 in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits.
    I have created the manual using Word, I set Heading (s) with 3 levels deep and created TOC in Word.
    It looks as designed. There are Titles, Subtitles and Subtiles (3rd level).
    TOC in Word works fine. No problem.
    In PDFMaker options under Bookmarks tab I set TOC 1 with 3 levels.
    However, after converting the whole document into PDF, the Bookmarks look very strange.
    They contain only Titles (no subtitles at all), each bookmark line ends with some number 3, 4 or 5 which I do not have idea what are they and those bollmarks point to the TOC page not to the page they should have.
    What is wrong and how can I correct that?
    Thanks,
    jas
    Added:
    I have read many of posts having similiar problems and tried all the suggestions posted.
    I tried:
    1.
    Reinstalling Adobe (removing all the related files), although I did not have any previous versions (and installations) of Acrobat in this computer.
    2.
    In Adobe PDFMaker  uncheck 'Enable Accessibility and...' option
    3.
    Setting printer to Adobe PDF
    4.
    In Word > TOC settings I checked the 'Use hyperlinks instead of page numbers' option
    Also I tried In Adobe PDFMaker not use TOC but to use 'Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks'
    The result was horrible. Double bookmarks, reversed Level 1 with Level 2 positions and lots of empty bookmarks (I believe created by empty rows in pages tables).
    Please note, that using the same Headings Word creates TOC without any problems!
    The only plus side was that some of those bookmarks came with correct links.
    Those bokkmarks were created using 'New Bookmarks from structure' option in Acrobat (after converting the document)
    /jas

    This is ridiculous!
    I think it is time for Adobe to admit there is a problem creating bookmarks in Acrobat, regardless the used version.
    Today I spent all day trying different combinations.
    In addition to my post above I installed and tested the same document in Acrobat Prof ver.8 and Acrobat X.
    The installation was virgin (no previous Adobe was installed).
    Same for MS Office. Virgin installation of ver. 2003 and 2007
    My document I copied and pasted in blank new Word document.
    Also I tried under Windows XP
    All that does not make any difference.
    The final result was always the same, as shown graphically in above post.
    Any ideas?
    What I do not understand, how such big corporation allows bugs like that.
    Convertning TOC (nice working in Word) cannot be a rocket science!
    If Word can create TOC from Headings flawlessly, why not Adobe?
    That TOC is correctly converted as TOC page in pdf document.
    Maybe Adobe should add the option to create bookmarks directly from it after the conversion?!
    As I said, it is not a rocket science.
    Onus is on you, Adobe!

  • I am trying to save a document with the new pages and it will only save as a zip file any ideas on how to change this?

    I am trying to save a document with the new Pages and it is only saving as a ZIP file anyone know how to fix this or choose a different file type?

    Take a look at the FileSelector
    First make sure the FileSelector is expanded so you can see the directory and sidebar. That's what the little disclosure triangle up by the filename is for. Once the FS has been expanded to look like the above picture, look to see what subdirectory has been selected. Use the SideBar to select an appropriate one.

  • Problem importing Word document with TOC

    I am trying to import a Word document containing a table of contents into Pages. The TOC does not appear at all and I get a box saying: "The table of contents is empty because none of the paragraph styles selected in the Document Inspector are used in the document". The TOC style in the original Word document is a hyperlink.
    Any help appreciated,
    George
    Pages 2.0.2

    I'm on Windows right now, but I will try answering anyhow. Forgive me for being foggy.
    If the the document complains that the styles are wrong, that is probably where the problem is. Somewhere in Pages there should be a setting to choose which styles to use for building a table of contents. You should try to change those settings to match the style names used in the Word document.
    A possible source of error here is if you use Pages in another language than the Word document. Let's say the Word document uses the German word "Titel" for Header 1 and you run Pages in French, which expects something like "Titre". It is then possible that Pages cannot recreate the table of context, unless you tell it that it should built it from the styles called Titel.

  • Just joined up with the Adobe CC, and get error U44M1l210

    Just joined up on the Adobe CC, and lightroom installed and updated fine, but when installing Photoshop, it errors during the install with U44M1l210.
    I then went back after running each app, and tried to update, again still the same error on failure.   Looking around, I saw that I should try and remove the app, and reinstall.
    After the removal, reboot, and reinstall I still got the same error.    I then tried to use the in-program updater, which is said there were updates, but again it ended with the same error.
    I don't see anyplace to just download the update and install it manually, if there is one, maybe someone can give me a pointer.
    Asking for more detail in the CC app, it says the following:
    Update Failed
    Unable to extract the downloaded files.  Press retry to download again.(U44M1l210)
    Needless to say I have tried each option many times over, and am at a loss where to go next..

    Hi,
    I'm in the same situation as you. I've done a new install of CC on windows 7 64-bit, the initial app install worked but all patches/updates failed to install via the Creative Cloud manager. I got the same error code as you.
    I installed the updates manually from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html and that worked. However, the Creative Cloud Manager is complete oblivious to the fact that the apps are now up-to-date and is still telling me there are updates, even after a reboot. When I clicked on the install button in the hope that this would sort it, it fails with the same error code.
    So this is only half a solution. You can update your apps by downloading manually from the website but it doesn't sort the problem with the Creative Cloud manager and will be a real hassle going forward - I'm using quite a few of the apps not just one or two.
    Any solutions greatfully received

  • Acrobat won't convert Word documents within the Acrobat program

    I am running OS 10.5.2 on my MacBook Pro. I also have Microsoft Office 2004. I just installed Acrobat 8.0 Pro, patched it all up from the downloads on the website and was ready to convert some Word documents that I have to give to my boss. Went through Acrobat and it gives me the following error message:
    "Acrobat could not open 'Dissertation-1.1.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
    To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF or use the Acrobat toolbar found in Microsoft Office applications."
    The file was not an attachment and I don't think it is damaged (or at least I hope not). I can make the PDF document in Word or any of the other Office apps with the tool bar or the PDF printer with Distiller but eventually I'm going to have to combine everything and just thought it would be easier to work through Adobe.
    Has anyone else had this problem or has come about at a solution for converting within Adobe? I might just be missing something obvious but I would appreciate any help that anyone can give. Thanks!

    It was telling you actually what you needed to do.
    Go into word2004 open the document and to Page setup and choose Adobe Printer. Then go to Print menu and choose print File. Then name the file and select desired location.
    What actually happens is acrobat will create a hidden .ps File and check it. (up to 3 times if needed) before writing the hidden.ps file. The Distiller is open in Background hidden and converts the .ps file to a PDF file the file is checked and retried up to three times if something isn't right. Then The Pdf file is written to disk finally the hidden .ps file is deleted and the pdf file appears.
    If your still using 2004 a little icon may show up in word called pdfmaker. This is a little VBA script that does the equivent of above. however its ver slow and if you have a long document your hair may turn gray before it finishes.
    In Office2008 for Mac VBA is dead and laid out in its coffin with its arrival. so PDFMaker is a useless piece of code. Thankfully going into menu view options unchecking PDFMaker actually does banish it from the screen and does don't try to get reinserted if you banish it.
    By the way because of the new XML Based Code in Office2008 they have a word to PDF Translator built in just go to Save As... and scroll down until you see PDF.

  • Problem converting Word Documents into pdf

    Hi Folks - and Happy New Year to You!
    I'm using version Adobe 7.0.
    I written an e-book and can't get the darn thing to convert into a pdf file. Sometimes it works -- sometimes it doesn't.
    I suspect the problem is with my many embedded graphics. I have created Microsoft Powerpoint slides, and have cut and pasted them into my ebook as objects inserted between the paragraphs of text.
    When converting from the "Convert to Adobe PDF" button in my Word Toolbar, it gets all the way through and finally has an error at the end saying: "an error occured while creating a temporary file; Word was unable to write some of the embedded objects due to insufficient memory or disk space"
    I have Adobe set with a password to protect copying, and the Word file size is around 1Mb.
    My computer is only a year old, and I have 23 Gb of free space.
    I'm using Windows Professional XP and Word 2002
    Please reply asap or email me on [email address deleted by host]
    You Have My Best Regards
    Dave

    Hi,
    I have tried to get this right for a few days now Finally found some info at
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=330729
    See point 2 below.
    Creating PDF files by using PDFMaker
    You can convert Word files from within either Word or Acrobat. Because both applications use PDFMaker, you can achieve the same results in either application.
    To create a PDF file from within Word:
    1. Exit from all applications except Word to minimize processing time. To further minimize processing time, complete the following:
    -- If the document contains several fonts, either reduce the number of fonts or replace TrueType fonts with Type 1 fonts.
    -- If the document contains large or complex tables, reduce the number of columns and rows.
    2. If the document contains hyperlinks, make sure that the page margins are .8 inch or larger.
    3. To add features such as font embedding and compression to your PDF file, choose Adobe PDF > Change Conversion Settings. (To create customized job options settings with these features, edit the conversion settings. For more information, see "Editing the PDFMaker Conversion Settings" in the Acrobat Help.)
    Isn't it totally obvious to anyone that the margins have to be at least 0.8 inches for hyperlinks to work.....
    I made a new page format slightly larger and increased the margins. After making the PDF file i trimmed it in Adobe. Worked like a dream...

  • Problem converting XPS document with large images

    Hi,
    When I try to convert XPS documents to PDF in Acrobat 9.0 Pro, I have problems with "large images". They are either truncated or scaled down. The only images that convert correctly are small images that are not stretched to fill a large area. Attached to this message is a simple example. Does anyone know a way to correct this problem? By the way, the page is slightly larger than the standard Letter size.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your suggestion! In fact, I am the programmer who creates the XPS files from a .NET document. Our company used the method "Postscript + PDF" during a few months and it worked quite well. Recently, we introduced semi-transparent objects and fonts in our documents and the resulting PS prints look really bad. Since I can create a perfect XPS document, and since Acrobat can convert it to PDF, I gave it a try. It solved all the problems that I had with PS printing but there is that thing with images... Anyway, since Acrobat converts XPS to PDF, I guess they should try to solve the bug with the images. As for me, I will see if I can get a component to create PDF documents directly from our application.

  • Dynamic Converter - convert Word Document with Image

    I have the following issue:
    My word document contains an embedded image. the text flows around the picture on the right side.
    After the conversion is the text in a separate paragraph below the picture ...
    Is it possible to configure the dynamic converter so that the text flows around the picture like in the word document?
    Thanks for your help!

    Now i have tried several times to format the output with different styles. I have changed the text color, text size and to align the picture.
    But the output didn't change.
    There are no errors or warnings in the logfile.
    An ibr is also running. It converts doc into pdf.
    For the dynamic converter:
    I have made a rule.
    Then i have added a criteria for the field "format" with the value "application/msword".
    Then i have selected a gui tepmlate and asigned the standard layout.
    No effect.
    Any suggestions why the dynamic conversion didn't work?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Font problem creating WORD document with Oracle Reports 8i/9i

    I created a report using different Arial fonts. Once the report is generated from a .NET application, the fonts in the word document are changed apparently into Helvetica. This disarrange my lay-out completely. How can I solve this problem?
    (NB. when I generate a PDF, there is no problem!)

    By the way. I create the files in this way:
       private void createFile(String outFileName) {
          try {
             ByteArrayInputStream result = clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
             File newFile = new File(outFileName);
             FileOutputStream output = new FileOutputStream(newFile);
             int bytesRead = 0;
             byte[] byteArray = new byte[10000];
             while ((bytesRead = result.read(byteArray)) != -1) {
                output.write(byteArray, 0, bytesRead);
             output.flush();
             output.close();
          } catch (Exception e) {
             e.printStackTrace();

  • Problem accessing e.book with the adobe log in details

    Hi
    I bought an ebook. I downloaded it onto a laptop. I had access t
    o it no problems. I had a problem with the laptop and I had to change. I am having a problem opening the same book on the new one it is giving me the following error if I log in my Adobe details The vendor account you entered is not associated with the item you  are trying to open. Try again.

    Did you register ADE on the old laptop with an Abobe ID?
    If so, you just need to register the new laptop with that same Adobe ID.
    ~~~
    If not, you may be a bit stuck.
    The Adobe DRM infrastructure has some very undesirable features, and you may have hit one.
    When you first run ADE it gives you the option to authorize with an AbodeID, or some other option ('Not Yet'?, I forget exactly how they put it).
    That second option effectively authorizes with an 'anonymous' ID which has some very undesirable properties.
    ADE does give a tiny bit of warning if you make that choice, but not nearly strong enough.
    Any DRM books you buy or borrow get associated with a particular ID when you first process the .acsm and download a DRM .epub file.
    After that point it is not possible to change the ID with which the book is associated.
    You can copy it between devices (up to 6) associated with the ID and all will go fine, but you can't use it on a device associated with a different ID.
    You can change the ID associated with a device (remove the old one, ctrl-shift-D for an ADE computer, ctrl-shift-E for a plugged in eReader device, and associate with a new ID),
    but you can't change the ID associated with a book.
    An implicit/anonymous ID cannot be associated with any other device, and once an anoymous ID is removed (or lost through loss of device), I do not believe that it is possible to recover that same ID.
    Therefore it is not possible to regain access ot the book.
    ~~~
    Your best bet may be to try a DRM stripper such as epubee (google it).  Do not then sell or give away the DRM stripped book to anyone else as that is not legal.
    I'm not sure if that will work except on a device which has authorization for the ID associated with the book; in which case you may still be stuck.

  • How can I batch convert Page Documents to the Doc format, and keep them in the same folder?

    I have hundreds of Page documents in a folder structure for school that all need to be converted, but remain within the folder structure. Are there any scripts or methods to make this task easier before I go by this one-by-one?

    If you seriously expect an answer you'll need to give more information than the rather vague "can't"s so far.
    What version of Pages on what version of OSX?
    What exactly are the messages you are getting?
    Which scripts have you tried?
    Have you tried Automator and Smart Folders?
