Problems creating partition

While creating a partition for Windows on my MacBook, a message popped up saying I had to restart my computer. This was before the partition was finished being created. After restarting, there was much less space available on my hard drive, but no other evidence of a partition. I started up Boot Camp Assistant again, and started over from the beginning as if I hadn't created the partition. What happened and how can I fix it?

Hello,
Just this past weekend I installed boot camp on my Leopard OS. My computer also kept shutting down on me, or it would give me a "verification failed: use disk utility to repair the disk and solve this problem." After some time of dealing with apple care, I was able to get some help "repairing my disk." These are the steps that they had me take: Number one - make sure that you have some free space on your hard drive - ie - they had me take off my itunes while creating the partition because they said that the less space available, the harder it is for the program to find, say, 10 gb of free space all in one spot. The next thing you may want to try is going to disk utility and selecting "verify disk permissions". Once that is done go back to disk utility and select "repair disk permissions". Once that is done - if you still can't create the partition, go back to disk utility and select merely "verify disk" and then again "repair disk permissions". If this still doesn't work, insert your mac os x installation disk 1 and use the top menu bar to go back to disk utility and select "repair disk." You probably won't be able to select repair disk without using your install cd. After doing that, I was still unable to create a partition, in which case they had me go into a sort of dos mode and force a repair on the hard disk - which is basically to say that despite asking (via disk utility) for the hard disk to be repaired, some things were being left out, and you have to command the computer to search for and repair any imperfections in the system. I say, if you get to that point and you have to go into the dos mode - call support and tell them that is what you want to do. Once they had me force the repair a few times it eventually came up with a message similar to "there is nothing left to repair on this disk, the volume is OK." After that, I was able to partition and install windows. I hope this helps!

  • Problem : Creating partition is really slow

I have a problem creating partitions between two applications, using Essbase 9.3.1
PartA is on [server]:1423 and contains data
PartB is on [server]:2423 and is empty
They both have the same outline (PartB is a "save as" of PartA)
When I try to create the partition, I got no error but the process is really long (I started it 30 minutes ago and still not finished...)
If I do it on two applications within the same port number (my first test was on 1423), it works fine and takes about 10 seconds to create.
    I don't know what's the problem. Any ideas ?

Sorry our primary database file structure is different from stdby, we used db_file_name_convert in the init.ora, it look like this:
    *.db_file_multiblock_read_count=16
    *.db_file_name_convert='+OT06_DATA/OT06TSG001/','+RT06_DATA/RT06/','+RECO/OT06TSG001','+RECO/RT06'
    *.db_files=2000
    *.db_name='OT06'
    *.db_recovery_file_dest='+RECO'
Is there any thing wrong in this parameter.
I tried this parameter before for cloning using rman backup. This din't work.
What exactly must be done? for db_file_name_convert to work.
Even in this case i think this is the problem its not converting the location and the logical halts.
    help me out.....
let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks Regards
    Raghavendra rao Yella.

    Hi reega,
Thanks for your reply, our logical stdby has '+RT06_DATA/RT06'
    and primary has '+OT06_DATA/OT06TSG001'
so we are using db_file_name_convert init parameter but it doesn't work.
Is there any thing particular steps hiding to use this parameter? as i tried this parameter for rman cloning it din't work, as a workaround i used rman set new name command for clonning.
Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Problem defining partition for storing value 0 with new data

    Hi forumers,
I've a problem with partitioning and need some advices.
I've a table that will be partitioned by column Process_N which have values from 0 to 50000:
    Process_N between 1 and 29999 represents old data;
    Process_N >= 30000 represents new data;
Process_N = 0 means the row is not processed yet and so these value represents new data too.
Can I have a partition for old values (from 1 to 29999) and another partition to store new values (0 + values >= 30000) ? Hou can I define that ?
    Thank you in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Helena

    Helena,
What's your oracle version? I think it will be better to create 3 partitions usign RANGE partitions (< 1, 2-29999, >=30000 <=50000). Is there a specific reason you want to include 0 and values greater than 29000 in one partition? What the significant difference between 0 and 30000 specially as both represent new data?

  • Storage clause of create partition based on last storage value

    Hello,
could you give some advice how could i resolve this problem ?
I have procedure which is executed by job every day, once a day, and what it does, it automaticly add new partitions on one table.
I am now strugling with how to construct statement that will place every new partition in new tablespaces.
I created 8 tablespaces named data1..data8 and for this purpose, so now i am trying to understand how can i perform check in what tablespace was last partition placed and based on that, add new partition in first next tablespace. For example, last was created in data8 tablespace, so next must be created in data1 tablespace.
How can i check that ? Anyone have some suggestions ?
I am currently going with this logic :
    select tablespace_name from
(select * from user_tab_partitions where table_name='partitioned_table' order by partition_name desc)
where rownum < 2 )And with this i get the name of the last used tablespace for the last created partition, but i currently don't know how to use this info further.
Deos someone have some other idea about this ?

    Yes Sean,
i would like this to do bacuse of the tablespace that are created for that purpose, for that partitioned table.
For some reason, they must be used, and by the current logic where that procedure adds new partiotions with default storage option, they can't be used
and all partitions are created in one other tablespace named data.
This is situation on production, and i created similiar test environment.
data tablespace in production will in few days propably be full and intention is to start create new partitions in this way , in those new 8 tablespaces and in some time tottaly leave current and only used tablespace and that is data tablespace.
So i would like to somehow implement storage clause on already fully functional
    alter table add partition
    statement inside that procedure.
Is there some way for that ? That i use that qury i wrote above , and by using that value add on existing statement for create partition storage clause with next in line tablespace ?

    Hi,
Please use "Disk Management" to check first. Depending how many partitions are there, it is not recommenced to have more than 4 partitions on a physical disk.
Please use this tutorial to perform other tasks if you wish:

  • XMLA Create Partition Limit

    Hello,
I'am trying to make SSIS package that will dynamically create cube partitions. First, I create XMLA Create script with SQL query and then I give this XMLA script to "Analysis Services Execute DDL Task".
    Problem:
If I have more than 5 partition in XMLA script I got error after execution "Analysis Services Execute DDL Task".
Do someone know any limitations when creating more than 5 partition in one XMLA batch?
How can I solve this problem?
    I'am using SSDT 2010.
    Thx!

    Hi,
I create XMLA script with sql procedure. When I execute that scrpit in SSMS Analysis Services XMLA query everything works just fine. There is no limit home much I can create cube partition in XMLA batch script. But when I give this script to "Analysis
Services Execute DDL Task" in SSIS I got error if the is more then 5 "create partition" script within one XMLA batch.
I do not know why this is happening? I can process 10 or more partition but I can create only 5 in one batch.
I don't won't use AMO to create partitions. The simplest solution is to create XMLA script in SP and execute that script in "Analysis
    Services Execute DDL Task".
Where is the problem, how can I solve this?
Can you post whats exact error message you get?

Will you please tell me what is wrong with this query? Is it possible to create partitioned table using select statement (create table as select... Partition by...)?
    Regards
    ~Pravin

    Pravin
Will you please tell me what is wrong with this query?I see 4 errors in the syntax. Therefore, I strongly suggest you to have a lock to this:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_7002.htm#i2146309
In addition, have a look to the error message. If I run your script in SQL*Plus it clearly shows where the problem is. E.g.:
SQL> Create table customers (custcode number(5),
      2  Name varchar2(20),
      3  Addr varchar2(10),
      4  City varchar2(20),
      5  Bal number(10,2))
      6  Partition by list (city),
      7  Partition north_India values (‘DELHI’,’CHANDIGARH’),
      8  Partition east_India values (‘KOLKOTA’,’PATNA’),
      9  Partition south_India values (‘HYDERABAD’,’BANGALORE’,’CHENNAI’),
    10  Partition west India values (‘BOMBAY’,’GOA’);
    Partition by list (city),
    ERROR at line 6:
    ORA-00922: missing or invalid option
Is it possible to create partitioned table using select statement?Yes. With the usual syntax.

  • Stuck on Creating Partition Map

I was using the Install disk....the disk utility.....to erase my hard drive and now it is stuck on "Creating Partition Map". What do it do?
I am giving this i-Mac away so I want to make sure the disk is erased. Was it?

No, it sounds like there's been a problem. Do the following:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Problem Creating Hyperlink to another workbook

I am having a problem creating a hyperlink to a worksheet in another workbook.
Here is what I have done:
Created the master and detail reports in 2 different workbooks.
Executed the master worksheet to display the data
Right clicked the field in the first row where I want to create the hyperlink, and chose Manage Links
    Clicked the New Link button
Chose Worksheet for Where do you want to link to?
Clicked Browse by the Destination Worksheet
Clicked the detail report from the list of workbooks but the select button is grayed out
Does anyone have any idea why it won't let me select the detail report to link to?
I have OracleBI Discoverer Plus 10g
Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Yes, I did add a parameter to the detail report so that I could get detail just for that one item. The part that is giving me trouble is specifying the Destination workbook/worksheet. I see the detail report when I browse but the Select button is grayed out so I haven't made it to the part where you identify what values to pass to the detail report yet.

  • I'm exhausted of trying to find a solution to a problem created by Apple. I have moved to iCloud, following your instructions and now I can not use my mobileme e-mail address. How can I contact directly with Apple, not just an automatic reply phone number

I'm exhausted of trying to find a solution to a problem created by Apple. I have moved to icloud following all your instructions and now I can not use my mobile me e-mail address. I can not activate icloud because when I put my e-mail address it answers that somebody is already using my address. I have my old e-mails, but I can not receive any e-mail or send them.
I have contacted Apple Technical Support in Spain and I was sent an e-mail saying that I have to call a phone number and when I call it is always an answering machine who answers that says that I have to pay 50€ for a consultation or wait for 10 minutes. When I have made the consultation it was never mentioned that I have to pay 50€ for a phone consultation. If I don't want to wait I have to pay for the Apple Tecnical Support which cost 250 €, this was not mentioned in the technical support page.
Can somebody let me know how can I contact Apple in another way in order to talk with a human being or chat directly? I was very happy just using my mobileme e-mails, I didn't need any clouds and I was force by Apple to registered if I want to continue using my mobileme e-mail address.
