Problems deploying native extensions on Android

I'm trying to test a native extension on Android, but I keep getting the following error when trying to build and push to the device:
"An implentation for native extension 'extension name' required by the application was not found for the target platform."
I thought I had just messed up when creating my extension somehow so I tried using others and it doesn't matter which extension I try, I always get the same error. Has anyone else ran into this issue? If so, how did you solve it?
Thanks.

If anyone else runs into this issue using FlashDevelop, follow the steps here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/109524935899218597554/posts/7rhFEX7S372
That solved it for me. Woohoo!

  • External library inside Air native extension for android

    Hello everyone,
    First, I've been looking throught this topics
    - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7732742/air-3-native-extensions-for-android-can-i-how-t o-include-3rd-party-libraries
    - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24626380/how-to-include-additional-jar-in-android-nativ e-extension-for-adobe-air-mobile
    I got a similar problem. But not exactly the same. And the solution didn't worked for me :(.
    First of all, I don't have any visible error.
    -I can easily talk between java and action script.
    -The gateway is set without problems.
    My problem comes when, from my java-side-part of the extension, I try to call a 3rd party library. This library is (and I think this is where I do something  wrong) linked to my project as an external lib, in .jar format.
    So when I make a call to 3rd party library, it just doesn't print anything. Neither on the adobe part or on the java part. The logs that are before my call are printed but not the ones after.
    I tried different solutions that are:
    -Taking all compiled class files of my external lib and add it inside the main native extension jar [link1]
    same result (no errors)
    -including the 3rd party jar inside the ANE by adding a dependence file that require the .jar [link2]
    with this method i got this error that I don't get
    > aapt tool failed:ERROR: input directory '--auto-add-overlay' does not exist
    My third party library also include's itself some external .jars so do I need to include every jars inside the same packaged jar?
    I can see that a lot of people are dealing with issues like that so my question would be:
    What is the best way to include 3rd party library inside android AIR Native Extension ?.
    For information, here is what I do to create the ANE
    >adt -package -target ane AirInfinitGameANE\AirInfinitGame.ane AirInfinitGameASLib\src\extension.xml -swc AirInfinitGameANE\AirInfinitGameASLib.swc -platform Android-ARM -C AirInfinitGameLib .
    - AirInfinitGameASLib: just the folder with the actionScript part and the config xml file
    - AirInfinitGameANE: folder in the one that will be the native extension
    - AirInfinitGameLib: the eclipse java project. I need to put in that folder the airInfinitgamelib.jar(extension jar) and the library.swf (from the swc file) in order to beeing able to compile the ANE.
    Here it is ! Thanks a lot for thoses who'll read me.

    I had the same problem recently and fixed it as follows;
    - Extract the 3rd party jar file and copy the class folder (usually named "com" in the root of the jar) to my project.
    - Under Project Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries click "Add class folder" and add the "com" folder you just extracted from your .jar.
    Hope this helps

  • In App Purchase Native Extension for Android

    Hi All
      I was wondering whether anyone has done any work on an In App Purchase native extension for Android?  If one does not already exist I am going to be starting work on one shortly.
      I did a google search and found this stackoverflow post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8053049/air-native-extensions-for-android-in-app-billin g .  The poster is having difficulty with the call back from the Android market.    One of the responses mentions that 'Native extensions have an issue with java libraries' .  Has anyone else come across this issue and if so how did you fix it?
    thanks for any help you can provide!
    Mark

    I have just finished a (commercial) extension that lets you directly do in-app purchases on android from Actionscript 3. You can check it out here.

  • How to debug the jar files while developing the native extension for android

    ANyone???

    I'm having the same problem. I learned FB and Eclipse. I've read the tutorials, created an ane, and built it into a test app. I can debug my test app within FB 4.7 on my mobile device via USB. But there are bugs and they silently fail. Despite all my Log statements in my android java code, they won't output to the FB console. I'm blind, without even trace statements to help fix my ane. I've searched the internet and can't find anything. It must either be terribly obvious or arcane, because no one mentions it.
    Can anyone tell me how to get trace out of an ane?
    The Android reference claims debug and verbose priority are stripped out at runtime. I switched to Log.i() but still get nothing. I suppose for now I'll try throwing errors and see if I can report trace info that way if possible.
    Anyone perhaps have a JUnit test that will mimic AIR using the ane jar file as an extension? Perhaps it will be easier to go full native until the android side is debugged.
    Update Edit: Ok, now spending more time reading the Android developers website. I've found I can use logcat to get all kinds of useful system logs, including the log output of my embedded ane. I created a nice big command line window (180 char wide with a 500 deep buffer so I can scroll back through all the messages), then from the android platform tools directory I ran 'adb shell', then at the shell prompt $>logcat

  • How to use GooglePlayServices libs in Native Extension of Android AIR app?

    I am trying to use some features of Google Play Services lib but I could not make it work. I have added the reference to the google play service libs to the manifest file (from Flash Builder)
    <application android:enabled="true">
    <meta-data  android:name="com.google.android.gms.version"
                    android:value="@integer/google_play_services_version" />
    <activity android:excludeFromRecents="false">
        <intent-filter>
            <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/>
                <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"/>
        </intent-filter>
    </activity>
    </application>
    In my ANE, I have added the reference to the source of google-play-services_lib, but when I tried to call the FREFunction to check the availability of Google Play Service
    @Override
    public FREObject call(FREContext context, FREObject[] args){
         boolean result = false;
         try{
          Activity activitiy = context.getActivity();
          activityContext = activitiy.getBaseContext();
              result = isGooglePlayServiceExists();
         }catch(IllegalStateException e){
          Log.e(AneUtils.TAG, "Failed to get AIR current activity", e);
         FREObject obj = null;
        try{
            obj = FREObject.newObject(result);
        }catch(FREWrongThreadException e){
            Log.e(AneUtils.TAG, "Failed to create FREObject from [" + result + "]");
        return obj;
    private boolean isGooglePlayServiceExists(Context activityContext){
        int googlePlayServicesCheck = -1;
        try{
            googlePlayServicesCheck = GooglePlayServicesUtil.isGooglePlayServicesAvailable(activityContext);
        }catch(Exception e){
            Log.e(AneUtils.TAG, "Error getting googlePlayService state",e);
        if(googlePlayServicesCheck == ConnectionResult.SUCCESS){
             return true;
        return false;
    The ANE crashed at the line GooglePlayServicesUtil.isGooglePlayServicesAvailable(activityContext) so I really doubted the Google Play Service libs was not added.
    Has anyone successfully imported the Google Play Serivce libs into Adobe AIR Android app?
    Any advice or help will be appreciated. Thank you.

    hey sshk5,
    I have managed to make it work. The solution is quite simple, i will explain the steps below
    1. Download the latest Android SDK from ADT (including the latest version of GooglePlay lib)
    2. Check the version number of Google Play lib ( for example 412312....) something and in your FlashBuilder project, make sure you use the  exact number like
    <meta-data  android:name="com.google.android.gms.version" android:value="412312" />
    3. Use tool to merge the googlelib jar file with your native extension before importing the native extension to FlashBuilder. If you do not want to use any other tool, you can use the AIR 4.0 which will allow you to use commandline to merge jars (and even dependency resources)
    Hope it helps

  • Problem creating native extension package

    In an effort to learn how to create a native extension on my own, I've looked to the examples and help documentation from Adobe. I have actually created the required files for the extension (the native code, extension descriptor, the swc library and library.swf). However, when I run the command to build the .ane file I get this error:
    /Users/dalston/TeamAGC/sdk/4.6.0/bin/adt -package -target ane ../release/DeviceInfoExtension.ane extension.xml -swc DeviceInfoExtension.swc -platform iPhone-ARM library.swf libDeviceInfo.a
    output file is not writable
    I also tried a variation of that command that results in the same error (which comes straight from the Adobe help docs):
    /Users/dalston/TeamAGC/sdk/4.6.0/bin/adt -package -target ane ../release/DeviceInfoExtension.ane extension.xml -swc DeviceInfoExtension.swc -platform iPhone-ARM -C platform/ios . -platform default -C platform/default library.swf
    output file is not writable
    I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hello Colin,
    The folder I was working from /Users/dalston/TeamAGC/sdk/4.6.0, which is where the AIR sdk resides. The actual directory with the native extension files are in /Users/dalston/Documents/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6/DeviceInfoExtension/bin/DeviceInfoExtension. When I run the ls command I see all the folders under the main user (dalston, which is me). I believe I have read/write access to everything since I am the adminsitrator on this machine. I am on a Mac by the way.

  • Problems using Native Extensions (Gyroscope) for iOS.

    I have downloaded the Gyroscope Native Extension for Air and I'm basically trying to install it so I can use the extensions to develop an iOS AIR app that uses my iPhone's Gyroscope.
    The Gyroscope Folder has been un-zipped and is placed in a folder alongside the AIR app that I'm developing. I've set the Actionscript settings to point to the gyroscope.ane file and also to the gyroscope.swc file.I don't know if the latter is necessary as I'm all new to this.
    My Actionscript reads:-
    import com.adobe.nativeExtensions.Gyroscope;
    import com.adobe.nativeExtensions.GyroscopeEvent;
    import com.adobe.nativeExtensions.GyroscopeIntervalValue
    var gyro:Gyroscope;
    if(Gyroscope.isSupported)
        gyro = new Gyroscope();
        gyro.setRequestedUpdateInterval(1000);
        gyro.addEventListener(GyroscopeEvent.UPDATE,onChange);
    function onChange(e:GyroscopeEvent):void
        trace("From gyro: " + e.x + " " + e.y + " " + " " + e.z);
    Which I've basically taken from the webpage https://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/native-extensions-for-air/extensions/gyroscope.html#artic lecontentAdobe_numberedheader
    And I've added the 3 imports at the top because I believe these should allow these functions / methods (or whatever they are called) to work ?
    Unfortunately I'm getting the following errors:-
    GyroscopeEvent.as, Line 1
    5001: The name of package 'com.adobe.nativeExtensions' does not reflect the location of this file. Please change the package definition's name inside this file, or move the file. /Users/myname/Desktop/programFolder/GyroscopeEvent.as
    Gyroscope.as, Line 1
    5001: The name of package 'com.adobe.nativeExtensions' does not reflect the location of this file. Please change the package definition's name inside this file, or move the file. /Users/myname/Desktop/programFolder/Gyroscope.as
    I don't know where to move the files or how I can get AIR to see this .as files Should I be moving the "Com" folder somewhere better ?
    I'm a relative newbie to AIR so I appologise for my ignorance. All I want is a way to get access to the x y and z values from the Gyroscope.
    Many Thanks
    Gary

    Remove the gyroscope folder. The only file you need is Binaries/Gyroscope.ane.
    If you are using Flash CS6 link to the ane file not the swc file in the publish settings.
    Also remove the line: import com.adobe.nativeExtensions.GyroscopeIntervalValue.
    Sample code that you can use is in the file Eg/src/Eg.mxml.

  • AIR Native Extension Application Crash on Android Emulator when Extension method is invoked

    I have developed a Hello World Application using AIR Native Extension on Android Emulator and When i try to run the application its crashes. I was able to run same application sometimes back on Android Emulator on Mac. Right now I am using a Windows machine (as i dont have Mac anymore). I tried running same apk file which was compiled and running on Android emulator on Mac but it failed. Also i tried to recompile entire application from same code base but still it is failing. As far as i know Mac or windows should not play a part but still mentioning it out in the discussion. Also i tried running the application on various Android SDK version but with same results.
    Following is logcat logs for Android 4.0.3.

    I am not able to solve this yet. Is anybody else facing this this problem.

  • Android Air - Access app files via native extension?

    I've tried to use several video ANEs, they load video outside of the app fine, but if I try to provide a video that was packaged into the APK file they can't seem to access it. I have no experience developing native extensions or android apps, only AS3/AIR for android.
    var localFile:File = File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath("video.mp4")
    File.url traces "app:/video.mp4". The ANEs don't appear to be doing anything when given that path, searching the internet I found the path to the asset is in APK assets folder. And to use "file:///android_asset/video.mp4", this gets a response from the native media player via the ANEs but I get a dialog saying it was unable to play the video, the asset file name doesn't have to be a valid asset to trigger that dialog and the video asset itself does play on the device if I copy it over and play it out of the air app. I've read that the assets folder in the APK file can be compressed which is causing the problem.
    I'm not sure how to approach this? Is it possible with AIR to have android access the APK's assets?

    Hi,
    I've been investigating the issue trying to get access to video files packaged in an AIR app from an ANE but they are sometimes compressed in the APK rather than just being stored. Once they are compressed you get the following error:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: This file can not be opened as a file descriptor; it is probably compressed
    I think this has to be an error in the AIR packaging, as they shouldn't be compressed. Any files like mp3, mp4, png etc shouldn't be compressed according to the Android packager.

  • Adobe Air for iOS and Android: FlasCC or Native Extension?

    Hi all,
    Who know - what provide better perfomance. FlasCC or Native Extension? For example for Math calculations, bitmapdata modification and etc.

    Well nothing prevent you from mixing flascc with native extension.
    Also, I think that you can also use domain memory in AS3 with the Bytearray class (not sure about that).
    Flascc vs normal as3 is mostly a question of language (portability) Do you want to write as3 or c++?
    Native extension give you speed and native platform access(platform specific feature).
    So, you should think about it this way:
    AS3, run in flash and air. Is sandboxed. Can use domain memory, but it's a bit harder to leverage than flascc.
    Flascc, run in flash and air. Is sandboxed, Can use domain memory. Give you the potential of leveraging the hundreds of opensources lib already out there.
    Native extension, run ONLY in air. Is not sandboxed. Native memory management. Also let you leverage the c++ lib.
    The best (in my opinion) is to write native code for mobile and desktop (no air or flascc involve) and use flascc for the flash/web platform. It's harder, because you have write portable native code (lots of abstraction), but you mostly have the same problem with native extension.

  • Android Native Extension to connect to USB device

    I am working on an AIR Native Extension for Android that I want to connect to peripheral devices via USB.  However, my efforts at enumerating USB devices just hang at present.  (Using this library: kshoji/USB-MIDI-Driver · GitHub )
    Before I get too far into debugging the code I wanted to check something more fundamental:
    Can an Android Native Extension handle/bypass the dialog that Android throws for use of USB (or other) devices.  ("Allow the app <AppName> to access the USB device?")  I have seen a few articles for defining intents and remembering permissions in native Android apps and tried that but it seems that the dialog would still be shown at least once.  (See android - USB device access pop-up supression? - Stack Overflow.)
    Is my understanding correct?  Is this what is hanging my app?  And if so is there any way to raise/handle that dialog in my AIR app or bypass it altogether?
    Thanks for reading.
