Problems displaying swf on win explorer

Hi
I have designed some site pages using flash MX 6. They look
fine on my Macs, using all browsers, but my client isn't happy
because they don't display properly on their Windows PCs.
Because they look fine on Macs I assume there is something
amiss in their windows or explorer settings that cause the problem,
but nothing jumped out at me when I had a look round their
machines.
What happens is this: the page loads, but the flash graphic
is displayed with a thin white border around it. Unless you click
the graphic, it's inactive and none of the links or rollovers work.
It's as if their browsers are set to ask for approval before
accepting flash files. Once the image is clicked, it works.
Any ideas?

IE requires the user to activate the activex control before
being able to
interact with it.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/overview/activating_activex.asp
http://capitalhead.com/articles/activating-activex-controls.aspx
(I didn't test these methods).

  • Problem displaying header in Internet Explorer

    Hi,
    I've been posting a lot lately as I learn Dreamweaver. Anyways, I'm using a default template with a header at width=100% height=auto. I've also got a banner (a jpg file) in the div. The header displays perfectly in Firefox 3 and Safari 4 and 5, but Internet Explorer 7 and 8 both cut the header off. I've tried adjusting dimensions and simply cannot make it appear. You can view the page and check the code at parodylyrics.net . Thanks in advance, I'd like to get compatibility with all major browsers soon.
    Ryan

    From your previous post I believe you're on a mission to scale the header to different browser resolutions.
    You can make your divs adjust with % and auto but don't try it with your images.
    Cross browser, you're going to have to put the actual image dimensions in the image tag for IE to behave:
    <img src="../Images/banner.jpg" alt="Parody Lyrics" name="header_img" width="1115px" height="90px" id="header_img" />

  • The new ribbon user interface in Win 8.1 should display appropriate buttons depending on the currently displayed folder within the explorer.exe window.

    To begin with, in file-explorer (.\system32\explorer.exe) normally, the new ribbon user interface in Win 8.1 does indeed display appropriate buttons depending on the currently displayed folder within the explorer.exe window.
    But when one re-parents the explorer window handle to any window handle other than 0000 (desktop's window handle), then the UIRibbon fails to do so.
    You might ask 'Who does that ?' and I would say no-one usually, however I use BrightExplorer which
    is a great little app that  gives me a tabbed file-explorer experience.
    Now, this app works fine since Windows 7, but with Windows 8 the file explorer introduced the new UIRibbon in its UI. It's that new UIRibbon that gets confused by what I think may be be caused by the re-parenting that BrightExplorer does
    to pull a file explorer session into its tabbed control.
    This phenomenon relates to Windows 8 + and is observed only by doing the following steps:
    Download BrightExplorer from BrightNewWorlds.com by going here: BrightExplorer,
    In the address bar go to This PC,
    then go to any other folder and note that the UIRibbon is not keeping track of the changing folder selections.
    Does anyone out there feel that they can do something about this, or have advise?
    Kind regards,
    Robert van der Meijden

    Try this without the border images and it will work in all browsers with increased text size. That's assuming eBay supports embedded CSS styles (which I'm not convinced they do).  Inline styles are safer IMHO.

  • 've recently upgraded to FireFox v22.0. Originally, a legacy XBAP I use always opened correctly in FireFox and had no problems displaying or running. As of v22.

    I've recently upgraded to FireFox 22. Originally, a legacy XBAP I use always opened correctly in FireFox and had no problems displaying or running. As of 22, it won't even attempt to download the application, let alone try and display it.
    I have the windows Presentation Foundation 3.5.30729.1 installed, which is the same version I have been using in older versions.
    Can anyone shed some light on any changes that would have effected this?

    Hi, I have a similar problem. I did attempt the *.rdf fix on a test system, but it didn't work (em:maxVersion was already 22).
    We got about inflow of phone calls from our clients experiencing the problem mentioned above from the 2nd of July onwards... and more are phoning in.
    All the complaints come from clients (+- 10 so far and rising in number) using Firefox v22 (we have checked), and all of them have said that it was working previously.
    We downgraded one of the clients to an older version of Firefox, and it worked again. So far we are telling our clients to downgrade until a fix comes out, or use Internet Explorer (*blush*)

  • Flash site fails to display properly in internet explorer.

    I am having trouble finding out why
    http://websitemedia.net/playground/ferrioni/sandbox/
    fails to display properly in internet explorer ! The same site,
    http://websitemedia.net/playground/ferrioni/sandbox/,
    displays properly in firefox.
    I have checked & rechecked everything.
    What am i missing?
    BL

    It played fine at my side too.
    What version of flash you are using to create that swf?
    Make sure you have compatible version of flash player for
    your internet explorer.
    Try update your flash player to the latest version.

  • Firefox not displaying swfs with their proper dimensions

    Some instances of Firefox are not displaying swf files with their proper dimensions. When the same .html and .swf combo is loaded on another domain, different dimensions are displayed. I'm not using swfobject or any other DOM manipulator to get the swf on the page. I'm using the standard wrapper that Flex generates with object/embed tags.
    The dimensions are 950x700. I wonder if the large size is part of the problem. I'm not going for any full screen effect.
    I've tested with and without css declarations. I've tried using swfobject. I've created a brand new project empty project and when I publish that, the dimensions are still off.

    That image doesn't seem to be working in Firefox 3 and 8 (works in Firefox 9 and later).
    It works if I save it as 24 bit instead of 32 bit.

  • Win Explore has screwy FTP drive actions!

    Win 7 Home [Ver. 6.1 Build 7601: Service Pack 1]...Big powerful PC...web-domains =www.here-ugo.com and mavpca.org...running Win Explorer.
    I can create "FTP Drives" that appear in the left pane of WE. Some times they work. Work = drag & drop to drive transfers file(s) to domain. Copy and paste works more often than drag & drop. Occasionally either method results in the file(s)
    appearing in the left pane, but they don't really exist on the domain. How do I know that?
    Running an ftp client program shows that the subject file is missing
    Double clicking on the subject file results n an error
    Trying to delete the subject file results in an error
    Only getting out and re-launching makes the "ghost file" disappear!
    The "good" FTP Drives show: Computer > ftp.(domain) > on the top line of WE.
    The "bad" FTP Drives show: Internet > ftp.(domain) > on the top line of WE.
    Actually, "bad" FTP Drives momentarily show "Computer" before changing to "Internet".
    Clicking on the "expand" arrow of a "good" FTP Drive in the left pane will show all folders [they are also shown in the right pane, of course]. Clicking on the "expand" arrow of a "bad" FTP Drive in the left pane will
    show nothing below it.
    "Good" FTP Drives show a small window during file transfer that has a WORKING progress bar. "Bad" FTP Drives either do not show the window or it goes away before the progress bar displays.
    I have spent 3 days on this. I have a flat ear. Many hours on phone with ISP and MS CS [at one point, I got a guy in OR who spoke English...he was very helpful, but since he only knew about Surface issues, he handed me off to folks in Manila. They insisted
    they were "Pro-level" support, but I could tell they didn't have a clue and I wasn't about to spend $200-$500 w/ them!
    I guess I should say that I have a friend with a domain. We both tried to upload from WE to BOTH domains w/ no success.
    Should I give up and just use an FTP Client? Why have a documented FTP facility in WE if it doesn't work?
    Any help would be appreciated...

    Hi,
    Here you mean create a shortcut of the FTP site from windows explorer, and sometimes some shortcut won't work well? Is this one the documented FTP facility you mentioned:Work
    with files on an FTP site ?
    Double clicking on the subject file results n an error
    Trying to delete the subject file results in an error
    Do you mind to upload a screenshot regarding the errors here? Or please have a share with the error messages.
    Should I give up and just use an FTP client?
    Could you please have an explaination here? Are we using an FTP client, the build-in or a 3rd party?
    Besides, please take a look at this KB article:
    FTP client does not establish a passive-mode FTP connection to an IPv4 FTP server in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Displaying swf fonts, not working

    In Adobe Shockwave Flash player object, are there any known differences between version 12.0.0.77 and 12.0.0.44 with regards to displaying swf fonts, in Internet Explorer? We have seen a variety of issues with almost all versions. We had 12.0.0.77 installed and the fonts were displayed quite improperly - very Large - , and then we downgraded to 12.0.0.44 and it worked, displaying the fonts properly. Then it upgraded to 12.0.0.77 and it worked again.
    This happens in Internet Explorer, all versions. We have a heavy install on IE8 where we see if most.
    What changes between the two versions would cause this?
    What connections are required between the client and the server, if any?
    In the page source, these transformations are triggered in statements similar to this one:
    sIFR.replaceElement("h4", named({sFlashSrc: "/SiteCollectionImages/sIFR/neosans.swf", sColor: "#333", sCase: "upper", sWmode:"transparent"}));
    Any idea what may cause such odd, inconsistent behaviour?

    This is a flash or shockwave font, no real development involved I believe. The fact is it worked for years, then Adobe did an upgrade on the Object and it did not work. So just wondering what may have caused this in the release on the updated object.
    It also does not work in Firefox, Chrome etc, as these browsers act as if it's not enabled. So it seems like there is a handshake that is not being addressed, access to the server-side font for example.
    The font stopped working because of the change in the client side Object, not with anything on the server, development-wise.
    In several places, in some companies, IE accounts for 100% of the browsers. And in some of those places IE8 may account for close to 100% of those installs. To dismiss a query because it involves IE is not really helpful, or constructive.
    Are there any dependencies on the Object running and the server presenting the material, or could it be rights within the browser environment that may have changed (running javascript with prpoer permissions for example)?
    Thanks, in advance, Dave

  • Problem displaying CLOB in text file

    Hello All,
    I have a problem displaying the content from the database in notepad. When I click on a link on my jsf screen, I retrieve the data and display it in notepad.
    I have my text content stored in the database with CLOB datatype. When I look in the database the data looks in the following format:
    ---------STARTS FROM NEXT LINE-------------
    The firm, known for its keen oversight of products, has been the subject of complaints from firms who have had apps blocked from the store. Some developers have complained that the company's rules seem inconsistent.
    Some have found apps blocked after seemingly minor updates, or for having content deemed inappropriate by them. In light of this, and after careful consideration, I believe it is unnecessary to sign this measure at this time.
    Sincerely,
    ABC
    ----------ENDS IN THE PREVIOUS LINE------------
    Now when I display this content onto the notepad, all the spaces and new line characters are lost, and the entire display looks awkward. This is how it looks:

Some developers have complained that the company's rules seem inconsistent.[]Some have found apps blocked after seemingly minor updates, or for having content deemed inappropriate by them. In light of this, and after careful consideration, I believe it is unnecessary to sign this measure at this time.[]Sincerely,[]ABC
    All the new line characters are lost and it just puts some junk character in place of a new line.
    When I copy the same text onto textpad, everything is alright and it displays exactly the way it is present in the database. I am also open to display the content in html, but in HTML it doesn't even display me the junk character in place of new line. It is just one single string without any line separators.
    I am using the following code to put the content into the text.
    public String writeMessage(){
       OutputStream outStream = null;
       HttpServletResponse response = getServletResponseFromFacesContext();
       Reader data = null;
       Writer writer = null;
       try{
          response.reset();
          response.setContentType("text/plain; charset=UTF-8");
          response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename="+id+"_Message.txt");
          outStream = response.getOutputStream();
          QueryRemote remote = serviceLocator.getQueriessEJB();
          data = remote.retrieveGovernorsVetoMessage(billId);
          writer = new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter( outStream, "UTF-8" ) );
          int charsRead;
          char[] cbuf = new char[1024];
          while ((charsRead = data.read(cbuf)) != -1) {
             System.out.println(charsRead);
          writer.write(cbuf, 0, charsRead);
          writer.flush();
       }catch(Exception ex){
          ex.printStackTrace();
       }finally{
          //Close outStream, data, writer
          facesContext.responseComplete();
       return null;
    }Any help or hints on resolving this issue would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    The data is imported from a third party application to my database. It doesn't display any newline characters when I view the data.
    But when I do a regular expression search on text pad, I could see that my clob contains \n as the new line character. Is there a way to replace \n with \n\r while writing the data.
    Thanks.

  • Problems displaying in IE

    While I love iWeb's ease of use, it seems to have serious problems displaying on IE. There is really no point blaming IE, since it is the dominant browser and most people who will see our sites will use it. The point of iWeb should be to allow people to communicate broadly and effectively, not just to Mac & Safari users.
    Lists do not work well. The indents do not display properly. Text in boxes shift alignment and location. Bullets show up with different sizes. I have had to hand indent and line space all the lists in the sites I make, which is a mess and not scaleable.
    See fieldsforkidsmamk.org.
    Are there any workarounds or fixes?
    The other obvious issues with iWeb are worth noting:
    * inconsistent display in browsers -- pages look different in Safari and Firefox, even on the Mac (let alone IE)
    * difficulty adding html code
    * page names must be identical to nav names, so pages with multiple words (Get Involved) display urls as /Get%20Involved (can't be corrected unless you have Get_Involved as a header.)
    * need to publish whole site for any change
    * need to publish all sites for each change to any site
    * can't change color, display, location, function etc for Nav
    I assume everyone is aware of these problems. The question is, what to do? Grin and bear it? Any help, tips or ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    /Get%20Involved (can't be corrected unless you have

    You can fix this the same way you add html code, by post processing.
    * need to publish all sites for each change to any
    site
    You can fix this by separating your sites into different Domain files so you only publish one at a time.
    Contrary to the other response, "encoding" is not connected to the points you made. There is never any need to add a UTF-8 "tag" to an iWeb page. If you see question marks or Â's when your page is displayed on any browser, Mac or PC, then you may need to fix your ftp or server settings.
