translation=make sure the blue end of the ide cable is connected to board...make sure for your jumpers that you have one CD-Rom as Master, 1 CD-rom as Slave and Harddrive as Master...cd-roms on same cable, HD on separate cable..also make sure in bios the DMA modes and PIO modes are set to auto or at a slower speed if your HD and Cd-rom is old and slow.

For your new hard drive to be recognised correctly by Windows XP you need to have SP1 installed. For details here:- Link If your CD is pre SP1 and you are doing a fresh install on your new drive you could do a slipstreamed install with SP1 included if you have access to a CD writer. Details of how to create the CD are here:- Link

  • KT3 Ultra, have to clear CMOS everyboot?

Hey guys I have a weird problem...everytime (including the first time I installed the hardware) I restart or powerdown the computer, it won't turn on again unless I reset the CMOS by the jumper.  I'm thinking this is just a faulty motherboard, but any ideas?

    Hi,
I just worked through a similar problem with a KT3 Ultra
MS-6380E board and an Athlon XP 2000+ processor.  Every time I booted and configured the BIOS it worked fine until I cycled power.  Every time I tried to turn it on - nothing, no fans or anything. I was also thinking bad motehr board, bad processor, bad BIOS, etc. I tripped over an article (I forget if it was here or on AMDs site) that discussed an issue of the motherboard not properly recognizing a processor.
Apparently the MSI board identifies the Athlon processor based on clock speed (someone can correct me here) - when my system booted it was saying I had an Athlon XP 1600+ rather than the 2000+.  Anyhow, the solution requires updating the BIOS to the latest rev. What you need to do is :
    1. after clearing the BIOS (this needs to be done for about an hour - not mentioned in the manual) power up your system.
    2. Enter the BIOS setup and set your date and time only then exit and save your changes.
    3. Go through any system install/updates you need to do (disk format, OS load, etc.).
    4. Load the MSI live update utility and connet to the Internet.
    5. Run the update utility and you will get a selection of results.
    6. Run the BIOS update (you will need a 3.5" floppy disk).
    7. Following this make sure you also have all of the lates drivers installed.
    8. Now your ready for the final test!  Reboot and go into the BIOS setup.  Set your FSB clock to what it needs to be (in my case 133MHz), exits and save.  The system should reboot without any problem now.  :D
If you cant make it to #3 you have a different problem than the one I had.  If thats the case - Sorry, I don't have any pointers.
Some of this should be in the manual but isn't - Issues of not recognizing the processor, how long it takes to clear BIOS, etc.
    Hope this helps

  • KT3 Ultra Always Hang

I bought my KT3 Ultra in June, ever since then I never enjoy my new system AT ALL. I am having so many problems over it. First, it cant detect my liteon 16x10x40x cdrw. Then, the most annoying problem is that whenever I drag my windows it will freeze the wondows then after a few click of mouse, the whole system hang!!!!
I have tried to flashed the bios, install the latest VIA chipset and even changed a new graphic card(i first thought it was graphic card prob). But it is still the same result I got. I am now so feddup with it. I tried to go for warranty, and when it is back it is still the same problem over and over. I am so frustrated now. Anyone can help me please???
    Duron 1Ghz
    256Mb Kingmax DDR RAM ( x2 )
    ATI RAdeon 7500
    Sound Blaster Audigy DE
    40gb Maxtor Harddisk
    Liteon 16x10x40x cdrw
    Liteon DVD rom

I have a similar problem with my KT3 Ultra aru RAID
I´we found the problem to be the memory, I had a Kingmax 256MB 333Mhz stick... everything OK.
then I added a second Kingmax stick and I got stuck with the same problems as you are having.
So I took back the kingmax and changed it to a A-data
Stick and got the same result, so yesterday I got fed up with this  and got a SAMSUNG 512Mb 333Mhz stick and sold the Kingmax for 30€ (almost free)
I still got the same problem but I´m going to throw in a clean install of windows and I´m quite sure this will fix the problem.
My advice to everyone NEWER by KINGMAX. :O

  • KT3 Ultra: Need help badly!

    Hello, folks:
I just bought one MSI KT3 Ultra motherboard. Unfortunately I got a very strange problem. After I turn on the power, the machine can enter the self-test but it will shutdown soon automatically(10 to 60 seconds). I think it is the motherboard which shutdowns the power supply automatically, but why? I am using AMD 1600+ processor and I attached a good fan on it. When I checked the temperature of the processor, it is from 33 to 47 centigrade and it is quite normal. Could you give me suggestions? I am really confused and worried about that.
        Many thanks!!
        Tao Zhang

I have to ask.. but did you order that mainboard from newegg.com in the last week? I had that exact same problem with 2 Kt3 ultras from Newegg.com ordered last week.. though one would make into windows before it powered down.. my cpu, ram and video card, etc. all worked fine in another machine.. so i ended up sending the mainboard back. I would be interested to know..

  • MSI KT3 ultra aru Western Digital 200GB raid problem

    Hi!
    This is what I've got.
    KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E)
    AMD 2000+
256 MB 333mhz RAM (AMD Compatible)
Seagate ST330630A 30GB (an old drive)
    Maxtor 6L080J4 80GB
    Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 6Y080L0 80Gb 7200rpm 2Mb UDMA133 Fluid IDE
Western Digital Caviar WD1800JB 180Gb 7200rpm Special Edition UDMA100 IDE
Western Digital Caviar WD2000JB 200Gb 7200rpm Special Edition UDMA100 IDE
    Promise 100 IDE-controller
    Creative Geforce MX 440
    Lite-on LTR-40125W
    NEC ND-1300 DVD
    And the configuration:
    IDE1: Seagate (Master)
    IDE2: WD1800BG (Cabel Select)
IDE3(Raid1): Maxtor 6LO80J4 (Master) and Maxtor 6Y080L0 (Slave) raided as an single drive
    IDE4(Raid2): WD2000JB (Cable Select)
    IDE5(IDE-controller1):
    IDE6(IDE-controller2): NEC ND-1300 (Master) and Lite-on LTR-40125W (Slave)
    And the Software:
I've updated all the software drivers so I've got the newest and I'm currently runnign Win2k SP3 with almost every patch installed on it.
    And finally the problem:
When I've hook my WD2000JB to the on-board raid everything seems to be working normaly. The bios finds the drive and makes a new array. Win2k boots up and finds the drive and I can create an partition. But when I've try to format it it the computer starts to freeze for a while and then acts like normal again. The HDD-led blinks as it should during the "normal" time, but when the comp. freezes it stops blinking. The formatation stops at 7% and the HDD-led stops lighting. I don't get an error eventhough it was several hours since it stoped. And the formatation takes like 30min for 1%.
When I connect the WD2000JB to the IDE3 I can format it and it acts just like normal. I even did a full system test with the System tool found on Western Digitals support site and it didn't find any errors. But when move it to the raid-IDE the errors return. I've get Error reading / writing to disk and when I've did a chkdsk I've got the "Coudn't use Device) so I did a scandisk and it found very very many errors so it completly ereased everything that was on it.
And when I've run Western Digitals program again i've get an error (Disk error read/writing) error code: 0113.
Can it be that the Western Disk doesn't work well with Raid? I've haven't heard anything about that, so...
    Best regars,
    Mathias

You can have a look at my hardware below...
    Chassis: Antec 1080B (300w PSU / 180w COMBINED)
    Mainboard: MSI KT3 Ultra ARU
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1800+
    Display: ABIT Siluro GF4 Ti4200 AGP 4X
    DVD/CD-RW Combo: HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4120B
    Floppy: Panasonic 1.44MB
    HD: Quantum Fireball Plus/AS 30.0GB UDMA 100
    Keyboard: Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro
    Monitor: KDS Visual Sensations VS-190
Mouse: Microsoft USB Wheel Mouse Optical
    NICs: 3Com 3C900B / DLink DFE-530TX
RAM: Micron DDR 266MHz (2x256MB DIMMs)
    Sound: Avance AC'97 Audio
I've had similar problems where my system becomes very unstable at higher bus speeds. Installing Windows XP simply didn't work very good. However, I have ordered a new PSU today as a solution to this problem. Basically, CPUs and video cards are much more demanding and the more devices you have in your computer the more power you're going to need. I recommend purchasing the Enermax EG465P-VE (FCA) 450W ATX PS. It has a higher amperage rating and will most likely solve your problem.
Check your PSU and your bus speed settings...

  • KT3 Ultra 2 (MS6380E) - Not booting, D-bracket indicates problem HDD controller

I wonder if anyone could help me. Just yesterday my whole PC (4 1/2 years old) crashed suddenly (black screen, HDD spinning down) I tried to reboot it but to no avail. My D-Bracket indicators are as follows: upper two red, lower two green, which is during the initialisation of the HDD controller. I have already tried to boot it with the bare minimum but the problem persists. When i press the power button i hear all fans in the case spinning and the HDD spinning up but there are no beeps from BIOS and the screen remains blank (can't acces BIOS either). There are also some clicks coming from the DVD-ROM drive (reading light goes on and out) for about 5 seconds and then the clicking stops. I have already tried reseating and/or replacing with other models: PSU, memory , videocard, HDD and clearing CMOS both by using JBAT jumper and removing the battery for half an hour. Does anyone know other things to try? Thank you for replying.
    KT3 Ultra 2
    Athlon XP 2000+ FSB133
    512 mb DDR333
    400W PSU

    Thank you for the replies.
Regarding the CPU fan (Zahlman), everything is working fine, never had any problems with it, no thermal issues with CPU at all.
The D-Bracket indicators do not flash during boot but immediately illuminate top two red, lower two green. Shouldn't all four indicators be red to indicate a CPU failure (according to my manual) ?
The clicking of the DVD-ROM drive also has me worried as it seems to indicate something's wrong with the IDE controller, but I could be wrong. Something I also noticed is that when i boot the PC with HDD but without DVD-ROM drive the HDD activity LED stays illuminated all the time, but when I connect both the DVD-ROM clicks and the HDD LED goes off after three seconds. I tried another DVD-ROM drive and the clicking stays. I don't know if this is significant for troubleshooting this problem.
Will disconnect all components again as suggested and leave the mainboard without battery overnight. Should i also set the JBAT jumper to clear data during the night? I think i will unscrew the mainboard as well (but leave CPU on it) and build the PC up from scratch.

  • KT3 Ultra 2 + BF1942 problems

Hi guys, this is a question for anyone out there that has the KT3 ultra 2 and have tried playing Battlefield 1942.  The rest of my specs are:
    1900+ XP processor
    256MB ram
    radeon 7500 LE 64MB DDR
    cable modem
The trouble is choppy game play.  This occurs in single player mode as well as multi-player so I wouldn't really call it lag.  In single player, most of the time the game starts out really choppy but smooths out within a few minutes and is fairly decent for the rest of that map.  Multi-player is worse.  It's very rare that I can connect and play without lag or a choppy frame rate even with ping times of around 60.  It's very frustrating and I know from reading EA's forums that I'm not the only one experiencing this.  I'm wondering though if there is anything I can do with my setup to make things better.  I disable my firewall and anything else running in the system tray before playing with no luck.  Any suggestions?

I enabled sound hardware acceleration from within the game.  I'm not sure if it made much of a difference or not.  It seemed to be a bit better though.
The bad thing is that I had 3 spontaneous reboots while playing the game spaced about 1 hour apart.   :( I did change the memory timings in the bios.  I set SDRAM freq to HCLK+33 (I've got 2700 memory).  It was set to SPD.
I also set "PCI Delay Transaction" to disabled, it was enabled.
So I'm not sure which of these changes, if any, caused the reboots.  The strange thing is that it only seems to be a problem while playing BF1942.  I've left the PC on for a few hours doing nothing or web surfing and I've not had any reboots.  Microsoft's error reporting thinks it's a device driver error, but doesn't know which one.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem

    I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothing

    mhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work ,  i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free  :P !!!

  • KT3 Ultra-ARU SB Live! problem when using onboard Promise MBFasttrak 1

    Hello !
I have one little problem with my motherboard. I know it's a little bit older compared to today's MSI production.. I have a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard. I used only VT8233A southbridge's IDE until now, and everything worked perfectly. But now, I bought two Maxtor 80GB disks and placed them to a onboard Promise MBFasttrak 133 Lite (PDC20276) RAID in stripping mode. Everything works, except Soundblaster Live!. The soundcard itself works normally, but when I start to copy some files (and have some MP3's or video's running) the audio gets distorted in rythm with data transfer. I checked IRQs or address spaces, but IDE is on another IRQ than any other device, the same is address space. Had anyone the same experience with this "problem" ? Please let me know...
    My configuration:
    MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU
    AMD Athlon XP 1700+
    256MB RAM DDR 333
    2x Maxtor DiamondMax 9 80.0GB
    nVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200

    RTL8029 ethernet card
    SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
    Teac CD-E540 cd-rom
    Sony DRU-190A cd-rw

    Hi,
I think you should install at least the VIA RPP patch (http://www.viaarena.com), maybe also the patch from http://www.georgebreese.com.

    I solved my problem
When i use my usb 2.0 ports i must have nohting in the usb 1.1 ports
I tried this but it didn't work for me. XP Pro SP2 + all updates, latest drivers etc.
The USB 2 on this board is broken. For me, it averages about 480k/sec no matter what device I connect to it. I have tried HDDs, USB flash drives, NICs etc. It's actually faster to use USB 1!
In the UK you can return the board for a replacement because of this (no matter how long it's been since you bought it). That is what I did, although I was given another one for free by a friend which has the same problem.

  • DirectX Problem KT3 Ultra + GForce ti 4600

    Hello,
I am experiencing serious problems with DirectX (both the built in 8.1 and 9.0b) under XP professional on a computer with the following configuration:
    MSI KT3 Ultra (MS6380E) Mainboard
MS StarForce GForce4 Ti 4600 Series graphics adapter (it says somthing like N1996 on the board itself near the ce logo, but any help for identifying the board is apprciated)
I tried every driver I could lay my hands on including older ones like 27.20k, 41.07xp and newer ones like 4345xp or 45.23 (directly from nvidia). Both system and VGA bios have been updated and I downloaded every patsch available from microsoft. I reinstalled my systm from scratch several times while trying ut different combinations. I solved a potential IRQ conflict (built in USB to PCI bridge and graphics adapter both on IRQ 16). I ran across some third party patch called via latency patch wich did not help noticably either.  I tried experimenting with different settings for the refresh rates for the monitor an limitng the DirectX refresh rate to 75, 65 or 60 Hz to no avail.
Frankly, I am at a loss on how to proceed from here. I reeached a state in the configuation of the system where the problems are "only" the following:
dxdiag hangs sometimes during the 8.1 and 9.0 tests of direct 3D. Darc Age of Camelot experiences hangups, flickering objects, clutter and some artifacts as well as loss of connection to the server (although my internet connect is unafected) during play depending on how much I reduce the acceleration of the card. On the lowest level of acceleration (no direct 3D) I do not have graphic problems but everything runs so slow it's no use playing at all.
    Please help!
    Andreas

I did install the 4 in 1 driver early on in the process (must have forgotten to mention it in my post). Just to make sure that I did not miss it in the current installation I reinstalled it again. No major change.
It seems that the behavior is somewhat eratic. After reinstalling the driver the system (or rather the game) ran for a couple of minutes before it started to freeze again for a couple of seconds each time with increasing frequency of those freezes. Upon leaving the game I noticed again certain flickering objects wich definitely did not flicker when I started. In short the situation got worse with time.
Since I often tried a lot of things in a row (to no lasting effect) and I think I had the best results after starting afresh after thinking some time about it (with the system switched off) I am starting to wonder if I have a thermal problem or something similar.
So I did a few tests with the side panel open but I do not think the temperatur is really that high (it's "hand warm" inside).
    Any further suggestions?
    Andreas
