Problems installing gnome-extra meta package

I have not been able to intstall the gnome-extra meta package.   I receive an error that the dasher package file size cannot be calculated and pacman crashes.  I've tried different mirrors with the same result.
Any ideas?

Yes, dasher is corrupted, It has been reported as a bug so it should be fixed soon.

  • [SOLVED] Problem installing gnome-extra packages

I have completed the installation and all that left is gnome-extra packages. I fetched the packages and after the integrity check it says
Failed to commit transaction invalid or corrupted packages
gnome-games-3.0.21- <pacgae_info> is either invalid or corrupted
    and the installation exits.
Now how do I fix this. I tried forcing the upgrade process by pacman -Syu but to no avail. Can you help me fixing the issue.

    Ok I solved the problem.
First I removed the problematic packages from /var/cache/pacman/pkg and then used rankmirrors to get the best mirror.
After that used pacman -Syy to refresh and reinstalled the gnome-extra package .. Working fine
    Thanks

  • Unable to install gnome-extra

    Hello,
I'm attempting to install gnome-extra.  It appears that gnome3 was moved out of testing just this afternoon. When I attempt to install gnome-extra I get this error:
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: gnome-vfs: requires gnome-mime-data
I don't really want to enable testing...don't even know if that would help.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

I tried different mirrors and ran reflector for the latest ones when I set up.  Even tried archlinux.org.  Filed a bug about it, so that someone might check into it.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Problems installing gnome

When you go to install gnome, evolution-data-server faults out about libsoup not being in the sync database, well, I looked, and the version i have installed is 2.2.3-1 and its needing 2.2.3-2 any way to fix it, or just wait for the new one on the server?

The new libsoup is in abs. Just update it and make the package.

  • [BUG] Installing mate-extra gives a package conflict

When i try to install the group of packages called mate-extra like this:
    pacman -S mate-extra
(I'm choosing to install all the packages)
I got the error message that caja-extensions-common and caja-extensions are conflicting.
Looks weird cause i don't have either of these packages installed.
Wanted to say here on the forums cause i don't know if others has my same problem... if so i guess can be a bug of some PKGBUILD...
    Thank you.
    [edit]
I see also another conflict between galculator-gtk2 and mate-calc.

Thank you clfarron4, it does work now. But i got now conflict between: galculator-gtk2 and mate-calc.
These packages are both in the same list (mate-extra) and conflicting.
So i guess it's a bug of the package, but thats weird cause galculator-gtk2 is not part of the meta-extra group:

  • Problems after trying to install gnome-session-compiz

Hi, as explained here i've installed gnome-session-compiz, but i forgot to install compiz-fusion before that.
now, if I try pacman -S compiz-fusion-gtk, pacman outputs something like this (i'm translating from italian):
Warning: impossible to resolve "compiz-core=0.9.2", a dependency of "compizconfig-python"
Warning: impossible to resolve "libcompizconfig=0.9.2", a dependency of "compizconfig-python"
:: The following packages can't be updated due to unsolvable dependencies:
          ccsm  fusion-icon
Do you want to ignore these packages for this update? [y/N]
If I press "y" pacman downloads and installs only these packages:
    compizconfig-backend-gconf-0.8.4-1  compiz-bcop-0.8.4-1
                   compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.8.6-1
                   compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.8.6-2  emerald-0.8.4-2
                   emerald-themes-0.6.0-3
which I suppose are the remaining packages of compiz-fusion-gtk.
Before pressing "y" I tried to uninstall gnome-session-compiz (pacman -Rcs gnome-session-compiz) but the result is the same.
    What should I do?
    Thanks!

Did you run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility? That won't restore everything by itself, but it would be a good first step. I run Repair Permissions before and after all System, security, and software installations.
Is there a reason why you don't want to install iLife '08?
You can download and install the last version of iMovie HD (from iLife '06), if you have iLife '08 installed.

  • Missing package in gnome-extra group

The package gnopernicus in the gnome-extra group depends on gnome-speech package which doesn't exist. Neither the package itself exists nor does have an entry in the database file.
    pacman -Si gnopernicus
You'll find that it depends on gnome-speech
    pacman -Si gnome-speech
You'll find that it doesn't exist

    same here
...you could just say no when it asks if it wants to install that package

  • Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

Is X-windows and GUI desktops supported on the ODA "engineered system" running a RAC database?  If it is, what is the yum command needed to install the X-windows, Gnome, and KDE package groups?

While I agree with the direction of the suggestions with installing packages for X-windows, we do not have a blanket 'apply any package' recommendation.
In particular we do not support altering the kernel (although we do have exceptions which we review on a case by case basis).
Basically, if the you want to alter functionality that would not impact core functionality you are usually fine.
A good guideling is : The more dependencies that there are between the package / rpm you are considering using the higher the potential impact on functionality - meaning higher chance for problems
Note: We do use VNC including Real and Tiger regularly , but we have no hard recommendation on how you may want to use X-windows. I have never seen a limitation other than comments on bugs
or incompatibility within the X-window product itself with certain kernel levels.
Patching may overwrite some packages that you may install, however,  _depending on packages/rpms added_ there is also the possibility that you will break existing functionality to the point
that patching itself will fail ( we have already seen a few cases of this in which case the proper mitigation is to remove / roll-back any alterations to the ODA before patching, and then adding the packages/rpms
back after the patching is completed.
From what you are discussing the impact should be low without conflicts, but please consider the above, and if you have specific packages which you consider potential problems
please create an SR so that we can review packages / rpms on an individual basis.
Once again: the main criteria for not supporting rpms is regarding the kernel itself

  • Help - problems with GNOME 2.6 install

I just did a fresh install of Arch base packages, then xfree86.   I then did pacman -Sy pacman, pacman -Syu, then pacman -S gnome
Then, while installing GNOME, my screen fills with about 500 lines of the following error:
error while loading shared libraries: libgconf-2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory
    Can anyone suggest a fix?

    Xentac wrote:
I don't know if these are fatal errors exactly.  The problem is that gnome-common installs a script in /etc/profile.d, that hasn't been run yet, to set up things like library paths.  Log out and log back in, then try gnome.  If that doesn't work then try running ldconfig and try again.
If it still doesn't work then it is indeed a problem that does need looking at.  I've got ideas... but they're still just ideas.
Well, the gconf library errors started during the fresh install of GNOME, and all of the other errors I'm seeing when GNOME starts, as far as I can tell, point to gconf.  But that's a guess on my part.
Yes, I've tried logging out, restarting, re-installing, ldconfig, but no luck.

I have Wondows Vista... Help!  I have an IPhone, and I would like to get my Itunes upgraded so I can download the new Iphone software...
    Thanks!

I have been in touch with Apple support in reference to my problem. We went through every solution available, and found no fix. The tech then suggested I contact Microsoft concerning this issue. I thought that suggestion was just to get me pointed somewhere but Apple. Boy was I wrong!! I contacted Microsoft, and was directed to a free download called Microsoft Fix. This program fixed something in the regisitor, and wala everything was fixed!! I now have I-Cloud and I-Tunes loaded and working well. So, if you can't install Apple Software and are running Window 7 you might give Microsoft Fix a try, it fixed my problem.....

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
    START/CONTROL PANEL/Programs n Features/highlight ASU and click REPAIR,

  • How to re-install iTunes after receiving "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." message?

    Hi,
This is how it all started. When the new update for iTunes 11 came out, I tried to update it. After I had updated it I found nothing had changed. So i tried rebooting my computer and everything and found that still nothing had changed. So I tried uninstalling it. After that I tried to re-install it, but it came up with the
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." message. So I looked around the internet and found a website that told me to uninstall all Apple products. So i did that. When i tried to uninstall Apple Software Update, it came up with the 'problem with windows' message again. So I used Revo to uninstall it. So I rebooted and tried to install it again. It installed Bonjour and all of the other programs but stopped halfway and gave me the 'proplem with windows' message again. I've looked around and most of the solutions have been to try and repair Apple Software Update, but the problem is, I've already deleted it. So can someone PLEASSEEEE help me fix this problem! (Sorry for droning on)
